I had Generation 3 come give me an estimate for multiple jobs in the house. Knowing that I would not be able to afford all of the jobs at once, I thanked them for their time and thought about what I wanted done first. I called Generation 3 about a week later and scheduled the 2 jobs I wanted done and they were at my house by the end of that same week. The electrician was punctual and very tidy. I was confident that he was doing a quality job.
Description of Work: I had two fan rated junction boxes installed and a 220 line installed in the basement for my electric dryer.

The estimator who came out was very nice and efficient, although extremely late. He said it was going to be about three days of work for him and an assistant, which sounded about right to us. A few days later we got the proposal for this three days of work -- over $9,000!!! PLUS PARTS! What? How do you get to over $9,000 for two men working three days? Here's the math: 2 men times 3 days = 6 man days. Working 8 hours a day, that's a total of 48 man hours worth of work. $9,000 divided by 48 hours = $187.50 PER MAN PER HOUR!! And that includes paying an electrician's helper! I mean, I really didn't have words. I wrote back a quick email saying thanks but no thanks and got a call from one of the owners of the company shortly thereafter. I think I spent most of the conversation just laughing and congratulating him on being able to identify absolute fools who pay these kinds of prices. He never said it was going to take more than three days, he just said they were having to take on the responsibility of the rough-in work that they didn't do. Well, I guess anytime an electrician comes into your home that he didn't wire, that's what he does, isn't it? And how does the electrician charge for that? I guess in the case of Gen3, the answer is by the boatload. Anyway, I waited until after the finished electrical work was done (by a very nice and competent master electrician who is licensed and insured in the city of Philadelphia, by the way), so I could post this and have accurate information as to what the electrical finish work actually cost me. It was a little less than $9,000. To be exact, $1,836 -- plus parts.
Description of Work: We called Gen3 to do the finish work in our new home -- that is, the rough-in had been completed and we needed all the switches and outlets installed, and lights hung.

We were not able to determine the condition of the wiring done by the prior electrician or why the first electrician did not completing the original project. We are fully insured and guarantees all work. In this situation that would be extended to the all work done by the other electrician. We did not feel confident entering this project with a low price because there seemed to be more to this situation than what we were presented with.

I needed to have a motion lighting system hookup for the exterior of my house so I called various companies to receive quotes from them on the job. Generation 3 was one of the few that didn't charge for an at home estimate. I was struck by how everything was done on updated computer technology. An IPad, no written paperwork. Generation 3's quote was similar and competitive with most of the others that I received so that, in combination with their previous glowing reports and references, made me select them for the job. They came out the next day and installed 4 different motion detector lights for my residence. One for the front door and one for the garage entrance where I already had the wiring. Plus, two more for the rear between my residence and my detached garage where they had to run new electrical wiring. It took about three hours for both of them to complete the job and it went off without a hitch or an issue. Thoroughly professional and have nothing but praises for their work and assistance. Would gladly recommend their companies to others looking to have electrical work done.

I called Gen 3 about 5 a.m. I had been awaken by the chirping of my hard-wired smoke detector. Not knowing what the noise meant and fearing a fire, I gathered up my dogs, handbag, and some personal items and left the house. I waited in my car thinking the worst. I called again around 8 a.m. I spoke to a young man who calmed me down; told me that Todd, one of their technicians, was working nearby in West Philadelphia. Todd would stop by and see what the problem was when he finished up there. Within a few minutes, Todd arrived; told me that the newer smoke detectors by law must have a battery back up. That was what the chirping was about. He took out the main body of the alarm, inserted a new, and explained exactly what I must do next time this occurs. When I asked the price, Todd said that there was no charge. These are reasons why I will alway call and rely on Gen 3. They have done work in my house since 2009 and I have always been satisfied with their professionalism, the promptness in their responsiveness, their work performance and their answering of any questions that I might have. They have always treated me with respect even when something as simple as a "battery" alerting me that it was time to change it. I have recommended them to my friends and will continue to use their services in the future. Thanks, Gen 3.

This was a totally stress free encounter. I found Generation 3 at 9:00a .m., called and had an electrician at my home by 2:00 pm and he was finished by 4:00 pm. His name was Mike and he could not have been more courteous and professional. It was a pleasure to deal with this company and I will definitely do it again, and refer them to others. I have used Generation 3 several times and have been very pleased with their service and the quality of their work. They are easy to schedule, they show up on time, and the staff is very professional. However, the last two times I have used them I have found them to have gotten very expensive. The time before their most recent visit, they installed a ceiling fan at an existing light fixture (so the electricity was there). The estimate was for $270, which seemed high but I had no idea how long it would take. The work was done in under 45 minutes. Wow. I paid without questioning the cost, but sent back a customer service card and said that I thought the cost was high. I received a follow-up call from one of the owners, Bill. I explained what had occurred, and Bill apologized and said that they had recently switched over to a national pricing book and that they were finding that some of the prices were too high for our area. He said that he would refund me $100, which he promptly did. Impressive. I thought the high cost was just a mistake that they readily rectified. For this most recent round of work, I purchased an Angie's coupon for $50 which could be applied for $100 worth of work. Generation 3 gave me an estimate for $941 for the work. Again, I thought it seemed high but the installation of one of the light fixtures was in a third floor stairwell so I thought it might take more time that I thought. There was one person doing the work, and he was done in under three hours. I asked him about the cost since he was done so quickly and he said that they charged by the task not by the amount of time that it took. I paid, but was not a happy camper. I received a follow-up call that same day and expressed my displeasure. I received a return phone call from Chad, who I believe is also one of the owners. He said that they had a flat price pricing strategy and that if they had run into any problems, which they often do, I still would have been charged the same amount. I said, "but I didn't have any problems and I was charged over $300 an hour when all was said and done." I then asked what the estimate was based on. Chad said that they factored in possible problems--missing parts, etc. but again, they would not have charged me more if they ran into any issues. I told him that it sounded like their actual pricing strategy was to assume the worst when doing the estimate, but not giving the customer any benefit when the worst doesn't occur. In my case, there were zero issues with any of the work performed. I was prepared and had everything needed and it went smoothly. But I was actually penalized for that. I told Chad that as good as Generation 3's work is, I will be unable to use them in the future based on their high cost and pricing strategy. Chad said that he was sorry that I felt that way and we ended our call. It's unfortunate, but there are many qualified electricians who are responsive and service-oriented with better pricing packages. I would try to find one of them unless you are willing to pay premium prices to work with Generation 3.

Thank you for taking the time to point out some of the positive qualities of our business. Professionalism, Quality of Work and Convenience to our consumers are very important to us. We think that these are “must have values” when working in people’s homes. I am sorry to hear you do not feel you received a return on your investment, but allow me to address how and why we price our work: Every G3E job is estimated up-front, before any work is started. Our Technicians are trained to review the estimate with each customer and discuss any concerns before initiating the work so our clients know the total cost of the project. We never come back with any additional costs above what we estimated. As a professional, “service” company, we assume all the risk and surprises that are common in home renovations. We hire only highly skilled professionals who are excellent at their work and capable of completing high quality work in a timely manner. We understand that having service technicians in our customer’s homes can be inconvenient for most homeowners. Our approach is to find the best electricians, office staff and products to minimize time and inconveniences to our customers while providing the quality expected. We also view a ”No Issue” construction project as a desired outcome for both the consumer and the business. Having high quality employees helps us avoid many of the problems and complaints that are common in the service industry. I do understand that no one wants to feel taken advantage of and that sometimes a client will attempt to work the math backward to see if they were treated fairly. In your case, as detailed in our estimate, there were multiple projects to be fulfilled in various areas of your home. It is our belief that pricing the work and not the time gives our clients a better point of comparison. Our prices are competitive for the tasks we preform. We would quickly go out of business if we were not competitive. I would also like to acknowledge you as a valued customer, one who has always been considerate to G3E through your loyalty, punctuality and preparedness. This helps the “No Issue” goal to be achieved. We hope to keep you as a client. Please feel free to contact me directly to discuss your project in more detail. Best regards, Bill

With half my power out they came within hours of my call and helped me negotiate with PECO some power issues at the pole while also alerting me to a dangerous condition in my house regarding my 40 + year old electrical service. I promptly scheduled them to estimate a repair on the service, They arrived on-time and preformed work professionally and quickly installed the new service. Their estimates were clear and precise, they took the time to explain what they were doing and why. And when was all done they mailed me complementary safety plugs for my house (we have a newborn). I couldn't be more impressed with the company or the work. I wish all service companies were of this quality.

They did everything by computer, and we didn’t have any paperwork. He entered in our information in their system incorrectly. I let them know we didn’t receive the paperwork, we didn’t receive our discount. They finally applied the discount. I wasn’t too happy with them. We were pretty satisfied with the work, but we felt they were speaking down to us.

Hi Member, Thank you for the feedback. We are always working hard to improve our operations. I pay close attention to customer feedback as I feel it is a good way to find the problems that matter to my customers. Please give me a call if there is anything that I can do to improve your next experience. Our computer systems are still new and we are still learning how to use them. The intent of doing paperwork by computer is to provide our clients with a higher lever of responsiveness and professionalism. There is a bit of a delay when setting up new clients. In the long run the computerized records will allow us to have better client histories. This is great for clients who have tricky electrical problems. I apologize if you felt my tech was speaking down to you. That is definitely not a possessional way to leave a client feeling and is something I will work with him on. I will pay special attention to this matter and teach my tech better ways to of communicating in our team meeting. I will not employ someone who can't learn to provide great customer service. I spent about $800 for both the houses. My experience with them was good. They are always very polite. They always call and make sure they are here. They are very responsive and I really like them. I used their services years ago. I actually wasn?t at home for the work they did this time, but I was at home when I had used their services years ago. So, I knew that I liked their work. They were online as well and I figured they would be highly rated. They are good. The guy who did the work on our rental property came to pick up the key at my new house before he went over to the rental house. They were on time. I didn?t even ask for another estimate because I liked them. So, I don?t know if their prices are good or not.
Description of Work: I used the services of Generation 3 Electric Inc. for some electrical work about a month ago on our house here and also on our rental house. They fixed one electrical light, hung about 4 ceiling fans, put in a dimmer switch and then converted a couple of outlets into the GFCI outlets.

Turns out the outlets are just strange. We should probably have Generation 3 replace them, and probably in the future we will. Bill Lutz, the owner, said there was nothing wrong and nothing to worry about, they were just odd outlets! Generation 3 is the ONLY electricians we will use. I don't know how many times we have had them in to do work - at least 45, if not more, always pleased with their work.

They came in and did the work--kids, mess and all. From the time I made the first telephone call, responses were prompt and the appointment was scheduled and confirmed several times. Everyone I spoke to, including the gentlemen who did the actual work, were kind and courteous. I felt comfortable with them in my home. They did not cover my computer so there was dust from the overhead drilling. I wiped everything down and the computer seems OK. I know this was an oversight, but I had to mention.
Description of Work: Generation 3 installed track lighting, a ceiling fan, replaced several faulty outlets and switched electrical service from one panel box to another. I mentioned "Angie's List" and got a free whole house surge protector as promised, as well as a surge protector for my home office equipment and another for my TV. They matched a competitor's price for the electrical outlets, and did extra to correct the loose fit within the wall. I purchased the ceiling fan and they provided the track light. If I had to do it over again I would have gotten my own track light, but I was asked and I decided to let them provide the fixture. When I can afford to get what I really want, I will certainly call them again! I don't know a lot about pricing for this type of work, but I feel as if I got a fair price. I will be using Generation 3 again and recommending them to others without hesitation.

My wife and I can't say enough good things about this company. Mike Lehman came out to do the estimate. He suggested a whole house rewire and in retrospect we wish we took his advice. To save money, my wife and I decided not to have the kitchen, basement, and third floor bath rewired, since these supposedly were recently renovated. Now that my wife and I have some experience, we realize that he gave us a great price for the whole house rewire and we should have went for it. We liked that Mike used a laptop, looked up prices in a well-organized binder, and printed an estimate for us on the spot. Other electricians seemed to pull prices out of a hat and sometimes took weeks to get an estimate to us. Others came back with outrageous prices, trying to scare us with: "You get what you pay for." One other company told us it would be necessary to remove the 120 year-old plaster ceilings on our entire first floor in order to get the house rewired! Needless to say, we went with Generation 3 because Mike Lehman was obviously an honest, solid guy and knew what he was talking about and his estimate seemed reasonable, neither high nor low. On the day work began in August, 2010, he arrived with Alex, who turned out to also be a master electrician in his own right. Both guys went right to it, and after 2 days, they already had a lot of the work done with minimal damage to our interior. Unfortunately, over the weekend, Mike Lehman sprained his ankle, and since I trusted these two guys so much, I was worried who the company might send to replace Mike. The owner, Bill, immediately changed around schedules and sent Mike J., who also turned out to be a great guy and another master electrician. I can't tell you how happy we have been with all the work they performed. They used all quality components, from the electrical panel to the outlets. When we found out that the kitchen and third floor bath, which had been recently renovated and which my wife and I thought had been entirely rewired, turned out to still be connected with old knob-and-tube wiring (illegally), they gave us a very reasonable quote for the additional work. Even though my wife and I took nearly 5 months to find center lights for the ceilings, Generation 3 immediately came back when we called them to finish the job. Mike Lehman took his time installing the ceiling lights and then went to each outlet and light switch to check and fine tune their installation. This is an excellent, honest, quality company with reasonable prices and an experienced team of great electricians, and my wife and I highly recommend them without any reservations.
Description of Work: Generation 3 provided us with an almost entire house rewiring of a small 1888 twin home in a historic district which my wife and I had recently purchased. New service drop and 200-amp electrical panel. The house before had only one ungrounded outlet per room and no center light and was wired with ancient knob-and-tube wiring. Generation 3 installed 4 grounded outlets and a center light in each room, installed a wall sconce in living room, rewired the hallway lights, and put a ceiling fan in our third floor bathroom.

Michael was excellent! Great work, neat, polite, explained everything he did. We have an older home with funky wiring and when we did some cosmetic work in our bath over the summer, we had some problems reinstalling a light due to old wiring. The switch didn't work right either. Michael installed the fixture we purchased and fixed the light and switch and now everything works fine. For our kitchen, we wanted to add an outlet so we can run multiple appliances at once. Plus, we had an electrician from a different company (no one we would recommend) that did some emergency work on the same socket over a year ago and that guy wired our kitchen sockets to our bedroom in the panel! Michael sorted all of this out, installed the new socket with a neat, concise conduit on the back of the house to preserve the tiling in our kitchen. Now I can warm oatmeal in the microwave and dry my hair in the bedroom while the dishwasher is on. Thanks to Michael, weekend mornings in our house will be much more efficient!

The first appointment the man came and spoke to my husband and set the appointment up for early Monday morning. But they had to cancel because of call outs. They could not have been more apoligetic for the inconvience and ask me what would be the next available time for me that they would fit their schedule around mine. I set it up for Friday at 9 am. They were there about 5 min early got right to work and loved my dog which always wins points . But they were effecient, they did not leave a mess and they showed me everything they did and they even spackled the wall. I would highly reccommend this company and will use them again.
Description of Work: They need to instal a 220 line for a dryer and ground the electrical box .

They came out on time, performed the work as expected and also gave me a quote for additonal service in the future. They were very profressional and dressed the part as well.
Description of Work: Replaced three electrical outlets that had an burnt copper smell attributed to them and the electrical box itself.
