They spent a fair amount of time checking the electrical box, determining how much of my house is still on the old wiring (pretty much all of it), checking the state of the electrical appliances throughout the house, and reviewing various options with me. Unfortunately this was a year and a half ago, and I don't remember details. I thought I had reviewed this provider already. I don't recall if the tech was on time. I think there were two visits about a week apart. I was happy with the results. Everything is still working fine, although one end panel fell off of one of the fluorescent closet lights, and I can't get it to stay on.
Description of Work: Replaced dining room chandelier and two hall ceiling lights with fixtures I purchased elsewhere. Installed fluorescent closet lighting provided by Generation 3 in two closets. In first closet, wired light to go on when existing exhaust fan was turned on. In the other closet, added a new switch for the light, above an existing outlet.

We have provided a rewire estimate for our customer for a home which has the original wiring of 1920. This home, if you can believe it has not been upgraded at all. You almost never find this. Homes usually through the decades see upgrades here and there. He must of been one good electrician for his work to hold up to this point.

Prior to having Bill Lutz, the owner of Generation 3 Electric come to give me an estimate, I had called several other electricians including some that would have charged me just to give me an estimate. One electrician came and looked at the situation and did not seem to know any way to do the job without going back to talk to someone else at his firm. In contrast, Bill Lutz came and took a look and explained to me that I could have his company install wireless switches which would minimize any damage to my walls. The price would be about the same to cut into walls and pull wires. Bill had personally used the type of switches he was recommending in his own home and told me I would be happy with this solution. At the appointment for the estimate, Bill sat down with his little computer and showed me exactly what the switch would look like and then proceeded to work up the estimate. I was sold on the spot with the idea of using Generation 3 Electric. The work was performed several days later. It is impressive when a company does what it promises. The gentleman who performed the work put on booties when he entered my house and left the areas where he worked as clean (if not cleaner!) than they were before the work was performed. The work was completed quickly as well. I am thrilled with the end result and have recommended Generation 3 Electric to everyone I know who needs electrical work done. Also, I want to mention that the person who answers the phone and does scheduling (I think her name is Lisa) is also a pleasure to deal with.
Description of Work: One ceiling fixture to be installed where another needed to be removed. As well, I wanted to add a switch in my foyer to control the hall light fixture when coming in from the garage. The fixture already had two switches (one at the front door and one at the top of the stairs to our main level).

Evidently their name stands for three generations of being in business and I must say I see why. The do know their craft; they do show up on time; they do provide their customers with knowledge of what the actual problem is by showing them; they do clean up behind themselves; they do give fair prices for the work that is done; and they are worthy of being on the A listing of Angie's List. The only don't I can think of is I don't mind highly recommending them to family and friends. Great Job!
Description of Work: The main electricity line leading to the house had corroded. I called Generation 3 based on the reviews found on Angie's List and found that they were offering special deals for electrical service. They came out at the appointed time, evaluated the problem and gave me an estimate of the cost for the work and the time frame needed. Due to my work constraints I was not able to be home at the time of the estimate nor when the work was done, but I can say that my adult son, who is a GM and my sister (who is very observant and picky) were at my home during these time and both were very pleased with the professional workmanship and mannerism. I waited to provide my review because I do not take this part of my membership lightly for others like myself make a valuable decision based on these reviews and I must say that I was very pleased with the quality of work that was provided that showed in the outcome of their work. When the job was done, they left me with two $50 coupons one for myself and one to give to someone else and it just so happened that the someone else was my picky sister who recently had them at her home to do the same type of job.

Technician, Luke, called prior to his estimated arrival time and showed up to my house a few minutes early (love punctuality). He donned cloth booties over his shoes to prevent scuffing the floor. He worked efficiently with installing the above products and provided me with a walk through of the surge protector he installed. He cleaned up after installation with a damp cloth and left his work areas spotless. Very impressed with his professionalism and quality of work. Couldn't be happier.

Called yesterday and scheduled an appointment for a diagnostic on an electrical issue in my home. Was told by scheduler diagnostics are $49 to determine extra costs. Technician called me to get more information on the issue and without even stepping foot in my home wants to charge me $340 plus $460 in materials. Feels like a bait and switch to get you on thier calendar and then rack up the rates once you already have agreed to work with them. I canceled my appointment and will never contact them again.

We hate communication problems with potential customers. Bait and Switch would be if we walked into the customers house saying 49.00 then pulling out the true fix price. We provided the cost if we needed to replace smoke detector system, which we were positive needed to happen after two lengthy phone conversations. Sometimes we are not a good match for the client.

I was highly impressed with the professional service provided by Generation 3 Electric Inc. The entire staff was friendly and the service was done on time with little disruption as possible. I had 2 ceiling fans installed. One of them needed the complete wiring. Everything was clearly explained to me. When the work was done, they cleaned up after themselves and even moved my area rug and furniture back for me! I would most certainly use them again!

Your installation was not the least expensive fan install, but it was done properly and the price was correct and up front. We actually lose some of these appointments to our competitors who usually give the lowest price on the phone. The panel labeling coupon is always a big hit. Usually the labels are old and worn off. Great use of $59.00. The only coupon that beats it is the "whole house inspection" for $39.00

The two electricians arrived on time and were very professional. It took less than an hour to complete. I had thought they would give me a chart with the circuit breakers match to the room but they just labelled the outlets and left it to me to make the chart. This could have been my misconception of the service. I a**-u-me-d.
Description of Work: All outlets were tested for shorts and for meeting code. The numbered each outlet with the corresponding circuit and checked all circuits as well.

The gentlemen who performed the work were exemplary in their professionalism. This is a very difficult house to work on: the original plaster and lathe walls have been covered with 3/8" sheetrock, and the exterior walls are are solid brick veneer, meaning the electricians had to literally gouge channels in order to run the wires.Patching of holes and channels by the electricians was done to the best of their ability, knowing that they weren't going to do a perfect job. We subsequently had to lightly patch some of their work, then prime and paint the rooms, which we were going to have to do anyway.The electricians cleaned up each day and did not break or damage any of our personal items. They took great care in covering up our furniture before beginning work in any rooms, and always used drop cloths when drilling/hammering/gouging in the walls and ceilings.The original estimate was completion in two weeks. However, as I stated above, the house is difficult to work on and time went beyond by one week. This didn't affect our schedule too badly. We are very satisfied with the work and will recommend Generation 3 to friends and family.
Description of Work: Generation 3 Electric performed an initial inspection of our 3-story Victorian townhouse in May. We received an estimate for complete rewiring of the house shortly thereafter. Work began one day after we closed on our home on June 15th and continued for approximately three weeks. The house's entire electrical system was either removed altogether or disconnected (in the case of the knob and tube wires, complete removal of wires was impossible). Communication lines were also run through the house for cable, phone, security, and ethernet.All electrical outlets were replaced with new 15-amp outlets. 20-amp wiring was run through the walls in the event that we want to install 20-amp outlets and breakers in the future.Recessed lighting was installed on all three floors.A ventilation fan was installed in the existing guest bathroom.Existing lighting fixtures were removed in some rooms and replaced with new, modern fixtures and CFL bulbs.15- and 20-amp wires were run to a room being renovated and turned into a master bathroom.Outdoor lights were installed over the back patio.Repairs were made to damage caused by Comcast, and wires were re-run where the Comcast technician screwed up.

Rewires are probably the most confusing for customers. Not all rewires are a full house rewire. It takes time in the beginning of the process to understand what the clients goals are for the rewire. The team from Generation 3 arrived on time. They were cordial and listened carefully to the concerns presented to them . Michael asked specific questions and also provided a plan of action to diagnosis the electrical problems occuring in the duplex as well as recommendations for improving lighting in the kitchen area. Upon completion of the evaluation , Michael clearly explained to me what the issues were, answered my questions, provided me with options available to remediate and correct the problems, as well as cost which I found to be reasonable and fair in pricing for services rendered. He and his team (Daniel and another gentleman whose name I can not recall) completed the work in a timely fashion. The team was respectful of our home environment and carefully cleaned the work area prior to leaving. We will be using them for our future electircal needs!
Description of Work: Checked entire wiring system throughout the two floor Duplex. Repaired wiring, checked all circuit breakers, electircal outlets and ceiling lighting fixtures. Removed defective overhead lighting system in kitchen and installed recess lighting throughout the kitchen area.
