Received an email with personal details about the tech (Josh) that was coming. Very nice extra. Josh called before he was on his way. They were right on time (maybe even early, another plus). Diagnosed problem 123 and fixed it. No worries, no problems, hassle free service. The two guys were complete professionals and even put on booties over their shoes so as not to walk on my floors. Great service, would definitely use again and highly recommend them. Oh, yes, they cleaned up after themselves. A++++++++

It's just fine. It was good. They were there on time. The people were friendly. It didn't take a long time to get scheduled.
Description of Work: I used Generation 3 Electric Inc.
I love the fact that Generation sent an email confirming the appointment along with a picture and profile of the electrician, Mike, who would be doing the work. I explained what had to be done and before any work was done Mike gave me a written estimate which was emailed to me. I felt totally comfortable and at ease with Mike. My main concern was the back bedroom where we've been having mice get into the suspended ceiling from a space left open around the ceiling fan from the original installation years ago. Mike recognized the problem and suggested a steel plate to cover the existing space. He also caulked around the slope adaptor. The front bedroom ceiling fan needed to be adjusted because it wobbled when turned on. The bathroom light flickered and occasionally went out and Mike said the switch needed replacing. I also wanted to replace the light fixture in the kitchen with one I just bought. From start to finish Mike was a total professional. His estimate was reasonable and his work was perfect. The entire job took about an hour and when finished there was no debris for me to clean up. I was so pleased with Mike's work, I recommended them to my sister who called Generation 3 today to get her electric work done. I will not hesitate to call Generation 3 the next time I need electrical work done in my home. They're the best!

This was my 3rd time using Gen3. Was having an update done upstairs, so after the ceiling demo was done in the master bedroom, they were able to get me on the schedule quickly so no delay in the project occurred. Was told a morning time between 8-11 but the 2 techs arrived after 12:30 but they called to let me know. Clean, neat and professionally dressed, they got to work. 4 hours later, my recessed lights, extra outlet, dual switch w/dimmer, gcfi and ceiling fan was installed. The room with the ceiling fan had stored furniture with not a lot of work room but the tech had no problem installing. The bill was adjusted because I changed my mind about an item. As usual, I was quite satisfied and on May 8, 2014 as well.

Our experience with Gen 3 was amazing from the first phone call we made. Not only did they send someone out immediately to give me a quote, they fit us in the next day for the most urgent work (we wanted some work done before Verizon came and tried to mess up our brand new walls). They even had someone call us that evening who noticed that our work was scheduled to be split across a gap of days (Thurs and Mon) and she offered to reschedule us for two days in a row if that would help (we declined, since we needed the urgent work done Thurs), but that attention to customer's convenience and schedule was very thoughtful! I can't say enough good things about Josh and Corey. They managed to run cable and power from one side of the basement without us needing to patch a thing! After a day and a half of having them in our walls, they feel like family. They were professional, polite, cleaned up after their work...I could go on. Every interaction we had with Gen 3 and Josh and Corey was professional and I would recommend them to anyone looking for quality work by people who will ask you where EXACTLY you want the outlet put. :)

Generation 3 were very professional and communicative. Detailed estimates were provided via email, and they were very clear about the pricing. I had gotten multiple estimates, and G3 were competitively priced, although not the lowest. I decided to use them, however, because I was impressed with their customer service. They sent 3 people to do the job so it took less than an hour, which was great. The lead electrician answered all of my questions knowledgeably, and also helped me with a dimmer replacement on the spot, at no additional charge, which I appreciated. The bulk of the cost was surprisingly the smoke detectors, and in retrospect I'm sure I could have saved money by buying and installing my own, but the ones they supplied are simple to use, have clean lines and are relatively unobtrusive, so I may have ended up buying the same ones myself anyway, and the peace of mind of knowing they are working fine (they tested them as well). Would definitely recommend.

They were very nice but the price was a little bit high. They were one of the highest in terms of the price range but their service was good. I ended up hiring somebody who's price was $1,650.00. I had a good conversation with the electrician. They called me with following up calls. I got a good impression about the company but the price was a little bit high so I couldn't offer to hire them. I wish I could hire them but I couldn't. The service was great. Except for the price, I'm sure they must be pretty good. Everything was A except for the price. I might call for another service but the job that I wanted done was already done by another contractor. I didn't hire them because their price was high.

The service provider was half hour late. I showed him what needed to be done. He told me that his computer system was down and he was unable to provide me with a written estimate. He explained that there would be two estimates for the one job and it would detail the amount of time to do each job. He stated that he would email the estimate when he returned to the office. I never received the email. I waited for 5 days and contacted the company to ask about the email. The woman tried to give me the amount the job would cost over the phone. I requested another written request. She confirmed my email address over the phone and stated that they would send another email by the end of the day. I have yet to receive this email and have decided to go with someone else.

GEN3 is a paperless company. All of our customers receive a typed and itemized estimate up front to review before moving forward with any work. We feel emailed communication between a contractor and customer has many benefits and helps avoid confusion. Unfortunately, email is not always the best form of communication for every customer. Occasionally emails get caught in spam filters and are not delivered in a timely manner. We hope the repairs were done to your satisfaction with the electrician you chose and thank you for taking the time in providing this feedback on your experience.

There are two areas where I am very unhappy w/ 3 Gen - the price was too high and I feel that they are being dishonest in regard to the GFCI outlets and switches. See below for full description... I had made a last-minute appointment and I really appreciated that they fit me into their schedule. They arrived early, which sounds great but was a problem b/c my mother was meeting them for me (I had to work) and lives an hour from here. Luckily she had gotten here early as well or there would have been a problem. They were here for about 1.5 hours during which they disconnected all the electric in the kitchen, removed the switches and outlets, removed the under cabinet lighting, and disconnected the stove. They also spoke on the phone w/ both me and my husband b/c they had some questions. I was pretty shocked at the cost of the job, $600.00, it seemed excessive for approximately 1.5 hours of work. When I got home I was happy to see that they had very carefully wound up all the wiring to the under cabinet lights and taped it to the lights themselves, and they had left a pile of screws and junction boxes for re-use. What I didn't notice, which was later pointed out to me by the general contractor we hired to re-build the kitchen, was that 3 Gen Electric had taken all the switches and the GFCI outlets necessitating us to have to purchase new ones at a not-insignificant cost. Since we had put in an insurance claim our adjuster balked at having to pay for new GFCI outlets and switches and said he needed an explanation from 3 Gen as to why they had taken them. I contacted 3 Gen and the secretary, after calling the technician who had done the work, said they had to remove them b/c "we never re-use GFCI outlets or switches and we assumed we would be doing the re-install". I told her that if that's the safety or code policy I understand but I needed her to put that in writing so I could submit it to my adjuster. She said that the technician would do that and e mail it to me. I received an e mail from the technician about 24 hours later in which he described the work but never mentioned to removal of the GFCI outlets and switches nor did he mention the policy about never re-using them. I immediately responded asking him to please specifically address the removal of the GFCI outlets and switches and as of more than a week later have had no response. This leaves me with a number of suspicions as to the real reason for the removal of the GFCI outlets and switches and none of them make 3 Gen look good.

GEN3 is committed to helping you resolve this situation. We are so sorry that you are having issues with your insurance adjuster. GEN3 does not install or reuse material as a general policy. Re-installing water damaged electrical equipment is not advisable. Given the moisture and mold issue being remediated in the home, it is not advised to reuse switches and outlets as moisture damages those devices. To insure safe and consistent performance GFCI outlets should be replaced when water damage is known or suspected. We can put that on our letter head for your insurance adjuster if you like. We offer all of our pricing up front, itemized and typed in email format. We double checked the estimate provided prior to any work being done and it does state that the following devices were to be removed from the kitchen: 5 counter top devices, stove receptacle, microwave receptacle and fridge receptacle and apologize if there was some confusion with those devices being left at the home for re-installation, which is not our standard policy. Your estimate was approved through our self-service portal. We feel strongly that customers should know their cost before work is done, which is why we do not bill on a time and materials basis. GEN3 excepts the risk for projects even when they don’t go as planned. Customers never pay more than quoted. We also have to account to time that customs don’t directly see. This time includes training, travel and keeping stocked trucks and ready to go so they can be productive. We invest in that time so our jobs go quickly and smoothly. Remember skilled tradesmen make their work look easy. We are here to help resolve this situation and do hope we are given the opportunity to do so. Having satisfied customers is very important to everyone working at GEN3 Electric.

Very professional, courteous and respectful. This is the 3rd company (opinion) I've had on my electrical system at my house. I'm not an electrician, but I know when I'm being taken advantage of and "taken for a ride" so to speak. The first two companies that came out I was unhappy with the assessment. Generation 3 gave me what I believe to be the first honest assessment of what' s going on in my home (electrically). They also followed up with a list of recommended items and estimates for each that I can choose to do on my time and budget, without being to pushy. Overall, the level at which each of the issues was communicated to me felt very professional and accurate. I was very pleased with the service and will definitely have them coming back to finish up my electrical disaster.

Generation 3 was able to come in a timely fashion and provided an estimated cost in a similar range to other electricians who came to the house to provide estimates. The technicians showed up on time and worked for 3 days. They asked where I would like the outlets placed and did a good job of hitting those points. One technician spent a nice amount of time making sure the bathroom light would be at a good height. However, there were a few major problems: 1. The porch light was not functional, so the electricians left the wiring open. When we installed a fixture, the circuit tripped. When I made an appointment to have someone come look at it, the first appointment was not added to the schedule, so I waited and then called and learned that I would have to reschedule for another day. 2. The field supervisor (Luke) came out the second time and was able to fix the pinched wire that was tripping the circuit. Since the electrical box was not recessed, the porch light looks... not so great hanging a half inch down from flush with the roof of the porch. Luke generously offered to have someone come out and recess the electrical box so that the light would be flush, but I'm not sure I want to take them up on the offer (because) 3. The finishing work on the light fixtures and outlets was terrible. Ceiling fixtures were installed into the patching mud, causing it to buckle and bulge around the base of the fixtures. We needed to take these down and repair the ceiling--either by sanding or by cutting out the thicker/heavier pieces and respackling. Several of these had to be cut out because the fixtures were imbedded so deeply into the spackling compound that they would not come out. There are also some walls with cracked plaster and/or bulging mud that need to be refinished. In retrospect, it would have been better if Generation 3 just left the holes as is (and how about using proper/sharp tools to ensure even, clean cuts???) and left them for use to spackle ourselves. Sanding a ceiling is NO FUN. Because of the issues with the finishing, I would rather shop around for a different fixture for the front porch than risk damage to the roof of the porch (wooden planks, which will cost more to repair than a new light fixture). Basically, I have no confidence that Generation 3 would be able to do this without causing additional damage to my home. I was happiest with the work in rooms of the house in which the plaster walls had already been removed. In these cases, they just attached the boxes to studs. We cut holes for these outlets directly into the drywall as we installed it, so it looks clean and polished. Overall, I would say that Generation 3's technicians were pleasant enough and that the electrical work (since the repair) was fine--just be careful about the construction work associated with the job. For example, we are considering getting new ceiling fixtures with large bases to hide the holes and ugly patches. If you are planning on getting wiring done and have your heart set on lights that do not have a large base to cover up the sloppy work, you may want to invest in separate contractor to cut and patch the holes for the wiring. I strongly suggest against letting Generation 3 do this work, even though it's technically included in their work package. You will save yourself a lot of disappointment, aggravation, and clean-up work.
Description of Work: Replacing knob and tube wiring with conventional wiring through most of the home (there was pre-existing conventional wiring at 100amp into the home and in the kitchen and upstairs/back bedroom). This included new circuits, outlets, and overhead lighting in the middle bedroom, bathroom, front bedroom, upstairs hallway, living room, dining room, and basement. They also wired lights for the front porch and back deck, a doorbell, and added (but did not run) wiring for a dishwasher in the kitchen.

I found Gen3 through Angie's LIst. They were one of three companies I called to get an estimate for this work. They were able to come to my house the day after I called. They were flexible and willing to alter the time slot to fit my schedule as well as theirs. They called to say they were on their way and arrived when they said they would. The gentleman (Joe F.) was able to estimate the job quickly and do the job right away. I had limited time and he was able to complete the work within the time frame i had available. Joe was neat; he took all the garbage and boxes with him to dispose. He was professional, courteous, pleasant and seemed to know what he was doing. We weren't able to test the lights (it was daylight) but we tested them later that night and all were working fine. I don't know if this is the best price for this job, but it seemed reasonable. Because of their availability, I decided to go ahead and have them do the work. I would call Gen3 again for electrical work without any hesitations and I will recommend them to others.
