I'm very disappointed because this provider has such good reviews and I would have liked to work with them. But the no-show and total lack of communication after that is very unprofessional so I will look elsewhere. A note that they don't want my business would have been the minimum I expect and I didn't even get that.
Description of Work: I exchanged emails and phone calls with the provider, who had set up a time and date for an estimate for the work I needed to have done. They never showed up for the estimate and wouldn't respond to contact after this about rescheduling and what had happened.

Response from Generation 3 Electric & HVAC
I very much appreciate you taking the time to give us this critical feedback on how our communications with you failed. As one of the owners, I'm deeply saddened to hear that this was your experience with GEN3 Electric. We treat all requests for service seriously and would have loved to work with you. GEN3 provides both confirmation phone calls and meet the technician emails for all booked appointments. We reviewed your communication with our office staff and found that your appointment was never formally booked in our system because your final Angie's List message was over looked. Our standard procedure is to book an appointment once we get confirmation on the date and time with the customer. We value all of our customers and understand how critical it is to handle all forms of communication with them promptly and professionally. We will be modifying our procedures regarding communication with Angie's List members through the portal moving forward so that no more messages are over looked. Bill Lutz, the founder of GEN3 has reached out to you to discuss the situation. If you would like to speak with him, please call our office at 215-512-4102. If there is a way for us to make this up to you, we would love to know what we can do to earn you back as a customer. Debra Lutz

We learned in the spring that our insurer would drop us unless we had the knob & tube wiring in our large old house remediated--and pronto. We had several highly rated companies out for bids. Gen 3 wasn't the cheapest, but the proposal won us over. A lot of art is involved in figuring out how to rewire a large old house. Each company we spoke with suggested a different plan of attack (where to locate the panels, how to run the wires, etc.), and expressed varying degrees of confidence regarding whether the tentative plans would have to change later, once they started opening things up, how long the whole job would take, and how much damage to the walls we should expect. Gen 3's owner, Bill Lutz, put together a very sensible plan that called for breaking the job into three mostly discrete projects that would enable the family to live through the work with a minimum of inconvenience. He also identified and priced separately a large number of upgrades we might want to consider, from running ethernet cables to adding a panel and connections to make the house generator-ready. We opted for some of the add-ons and declined others, but we thought that all of them were sensible things for us to think about; none was gratuitous. The actual work went about as well as we could have hoped for. A three-person team was assigned to us. The guys were extremely professional: they arrived at a regular time each morning; worked a full day; were very pleasant and easy to speak with, but didn't initiate unnecessary conversation; worked quietly; and cleaned up at close of work every day. They were with us for close to two months (as the total cost suggests, it's a large house and a big project), but we were able to live through it all quite well because the work was generally confined to discrete areas and because the team was so unobtrusive. Rewiring isn't fun or cheap. But Gen 3 was highly professional and competent, from start to finish.
Description of Work: Complete rewiring of 100 year-old house, plus several upgrades.

Generation 3 Electric were terrific - highly responsive, professional, prompt, and courteous. I phoned them initially, after which all communication was done by email. The arrived exactly when they said they would for both the estimate and the actual work, sent names and pictures of the workers by email ahead of time, and were very pleasant and professional in their demeanor. The electrician doing the work texted me a couple of times during the day with questions (including a picture for clarification), and then texted again to let me know he had finished. The work site was completely clean, and everything was done exactly as we had discussed. One could argue that the price was a bit steep for the work done, but it was definitely worth it - we will definitely use them again for any/all electrical work. Great experience overall.

Although the salesman was late to our initial appointment, he was very professional and answered all of our questions. We walked through the house to determine the best solutions to routing issues for the wiring and make sure we included all of our desired projects in the work. He also provided suggestions and alternatives to consider, which was helpful. They were flexible in adding an additional task to the project after the contract was signed, providing a new estimate. The estimates were clearly itemized. There was one task for which they did not have the bulbs at the time, but they promptly returned to finish the job when the parts came in, within a week or two after the bulk of the work was complete.
Description of Work: Installed a new outlet, with outdoor conduit to the second floor; re-wired existing recessed lighting and installed new canister lights; installed new fan/light/heat fan combo fixture with new switches; fixed under-cabinet lighting; wired and installed a new dining room light fixture with a new wall switch; installed a new fixture at an existing light; replaced an existing recessed light in the basement.

Chad came out and gave us an estimate. We originally wanted to replace a 100amp service with a 200 amp service but were informed that we did not need that much. He advised that we get the 100 amp service replaced with more circuits instead, as the current circuits were overloaded. We appreciated that he did not want to charge us for something that we did not need. We signed on the have the following work done: new 100 amp main electrical service with 30 circuits , as well as installing an additional circuit to the kitchen area, and a whole house home surge protector. Mike and Zac came out on the scheduled date and time and did all of the work in a timely and professional manner. When they were finished with the work, they labeled all of the circuits for us. Overall we were very happy with the work. We had used them in the past and will not hesitate to use them again.

Bill and his team were extremely professional, responsive, and helpful. The quote/evaluation stage was impressive. Bill came out and must have spent an hour doing a full walk-through of our home to check every wire and outlet and provide us with a recommend work list in order of priority. We needed to add some recessed lighting, and wanted to start updating the wiring in the house (replacing knob/tube). It's a long project, but Bill and his team laid out a clear action plan of everything that needed to be done so we could do it in pieces. The install crew was highly experienced, and got everything done with minimal damage to the walls. They also take credit cards, which is a nice bonus...

It went great! They didn't end up needing to do much, but two screws and diagnosing the issue ended up free. I was planning on doing the rest of the work myself, and the technician didn't push any other services on me. We looked at two other projects as quotes, and I got those quotes in my email very shortly afterwards. Technician was friendly, understood what was going on right away, repeated what I said back to me to make sure it made sense. Couldn't be happier!
Description of Work: Thought I needed a new junction box so I could replace a ceiling fixture that was screwed into drywall. Technician opened fixture, unscrewed, and with a little tugging we found out there was a real junction box after all. In reality I just needed a couple screws. Technician gave me two screws, gave a couple quotes for other work.

Mike and John were held up in traffic but called to say so. They went very carefully over the job before starting and brought the estimate up to date since we changed a couple of things (which lowered the cost). They were quick doing the work and cleaned up well afterwards. Real professionals, very nice people--smart and enjoyable to be around! Would not hesitate to use them again.

It was a great experience. The electrician that they sent out was really good and the job took about 4 hours. We had them come out another time, and they sent 2 techs. During the second visit, they fixed a socket, hung a chandelier, and installed 2 sconces. They also corrected some basement wiring.

Correspondence, scheduling, and punctuality were all great. Overall quality of the work was good. MIke worked quickly and explained things as he went. He handled the light fixtures carefully and the job was professionally done. The light switch replacements were overall good, though some minor issues with the quality of the work including chipping the paint around the switches, putting small dent and scrapes in the paint by using a screw driver to get the fixtures off, and getting smudges on the wall with dirty hands.

Everyone At Generation 3 including Bill, Mike, and Lisa was nice and professional. They were easy to get in touch with and were prompt with appointments. I liked that info about the person coming to your house for the appointment would be emailed to you the day before and they would call prior to the appointment to let you know that they were on the way I had the electric in my house upgraded and an electric car charger placed outside of my house. The electric now has a dedicated 240V line running to the car charger outside for fast charging. Everything is well labeled and in great working condition. The electric car charger was placed on a sturdy wooden post and painted in a glossy black to match the trim on my house. The post is very nice and tasteful. My neighbors approve also and that is important. I will definitely use them again!

Description of Work: I purchased a big deal from Generation 3 Electric Inc. The guy came and did the inspection. He looked at my lighting, and recommended how to make it more efficient, or lighting that may be more appropriate for the room. I didn't have any issues with my fuse box. All went well and smooth. Technicians were nice and professional. However, they couldn't run electrical wire without making 5 cuts in ceiling to fish wire from Fan to box. No big deal, as I was informed this may happen. They provided a light patch up job to fill in the drywall cuts. The patch ups were very "Light" (2 of 5 were not the cleanest) . No problem, as I knew I would have to get up there and make the patches cleaner and apply paint. Overall pretty happy with all that took place from quote to completion.
Description of Work: A professional came to my house and explained in detail all that would take place. He was extremely helpful and knowledgable. Gave me a quote for service if I wanted to take on job with them. I committed with them. They: -Installed a new ceiling fan. -Cut hole and ran wiring to existing junction box. - Installed control switch for fan.

They arrived on time, called when they were on their way. Before checking out the issue I agreed to pay the $170 diagnostic fee. It turned out to be a quick job, he replaced the photosensor on my light. I actually provided the new photosensor(I had an extra) because he didn't have one, this obviously didn't go towards the upfront $170. So I can't really recommend them for small jobs, it's kind of a gamble if you think it will be cheap enough or not. But they did great work and were very professional, I would definitely use them again for a bigger job that I knew to be over that initial fee -- which I only agreed to because I waited long enough to fix this and it had to be done so it's definitely my fault and I can't complain too much about it.
