+ -1 moreI lost 1/2 the power in my house sometime in the evening. I had an appointment that I could not miss in the morning and was unable to call anyone. After my appointment, around 10:30 AM, I called Gen3 and they said that they would be able to send someone out and they would call me as soon as they knew when. I was called around 1 PM promising me a tech would arrive in 30 minutes. At 1:35 the technician (I think his name was Mark, he was great) arrived and immediately diagnosed the problem. I was quoted a price that was very reasonable and the problem was fixed and he was on his way by 2:30 PM. Gen3 came recommended to me and now I can happily recommend them to anyone reading this.

This time Gordon came back, fixed the problem (replacement of units) had helped me solve the origination problem, showing me what had gone wrong, and how to avoid it in the future. I particularly like the way there office coordinates the visit, keeping me informed of schedules and so on. Their prices may not be the lowest, but I think I am getting very good value and service in the long run.

+ -1 moreThe two guys who came over were fantastic. Professional, friendly and gave me all the information I needed to feel comfortable that they knew what they were doing. They even complimented me on my coffee making skills! Their work on the wiring for the entertainment system was top notch. No cutting corners, they installed proper piping inside, setup all the existing wiring and even put a draw string in there to make it easy to pull more wiring through when I need to. Precision work. Great Job - these guys were a little more expensive than another quote but I'm very glad I used them and will use them again 100%.
Description of Work: Provided some general electrical work, replacing broken external power outlets, a smoke alarm and embedded home entertainment wiring into the wall from the TV to the entertainment centre.

The estimate was for knob & tube replacement and required a full electrical inspection -- not free, but very thorough and helpful, and the cost of the inspection would be deducted from the final bill if we decided to have the work done. We ended up not doing the work, but we had a good experience with Gen3.

Description of Work: House is almost 100 years old. Among the things they did living room baseboard outlets where they had to drill through brick, switch replacements, put up medallion under antique pendant light and fixtures and GFCF receptacles in basement. More challenging was RECESSED LIGHT IN WOOD FRAME: There is a frame in the living room ceiling with an existing electrical box. -We will remove this box and determine if there is space to fit a 4" recessed light. -Install owner provided recessed light

They maintained constant contact with me, calling the day before and calling me shortly before the scheduled appointment to tell me of their impending arrival. No talking to answering machines. I spoke with actual human beings The workers were congenial and skilled. Efficient at diagnosis and repair. The best electricians I have ever used. You'll love them too.

These guys knew more than other electricians who came to give an estimate on a mojor problem- and they solved it! We had several appointments. Always on time and completed well. Average cost is shown below, but their prices for installs are lower than other companies.

Gen3 called the night before to confirm, arrived EARLY (which I appreciated), moved it, installed it, provided a new conduit cut to size and shaped to fit the tight space. Tested and worked fine. I love Gen3.

Description of Work: Ask for a quote on removing knob & tube. The estimator was punctual, friendly & polite. Was told I would need a complete rewire & he would send the estimate in a couple days but thought it would be about $20,000. After a week I followed up to say I had not received an estimate. The person I spoke with said they would get something to me with 24 hours. I followed up again 48 hours later & was told they were switching to a new computer system and she could send me a *rough* estimate but not the detailed estimate. I said OK, and she did send me that. A preemptive call or e-mail, explaining that they were having issues, would have made me more understanding. But it seems like, had I never reached out, they would never have sent me an estimate. I did not feel like they really wanted the job.

+ -1 moreI was very pleased with the work and the people who did the work were pleasant and worked efficiently. I was pleasantly surprised at how good the track lighting looked in the basement, i.e. the quality of the track lights. They were mounted on the cross beams and the light heads swivel to direct the light and it is easy to remove the light heads and place them somewhere else on the track. I chose black track lights rather than white to match the black pipes. I may write another review based on the effectiveness of the heat applied to the gutters. Will not know if that solves my ice dam and leak problem until the end of the winter.
Description of Work: I had several needs for an electrician, but the most pressing was to have heat wire/tape in my gutters/downspouts to prevent an ice buildup (ice dam) from happening again (water from thawing snow leaked into by kitchen ceiling during two of the last four winters). Also, I was living with only one light in the basement, which I use a lot because it is a dry basement. I wanted more light and outlets and I wanted an outlet for a dehumidifier near the sink. Finally, I wanted to buy some antique lighting fixtures to replace the cheap ones that came with the house, and so I added that to the list. The owner Bill Lutz came out and gave me a very detailed estimate, itemizing and costing each item. As I talked about what I wanted my basement to look like and asked and answered questions, we came up with a plan. I decided on track lights but on two switches in the basement at the bottom of the stairs, so that I could choose to light up the laundry part of the basement or the "casual den” part of the basement. Bill also recommended that they expand my electrical box and label the breakers. My South Philly row house is a very old house and when I bought the house I really didn't know what breakers in the box went to where. Bill scheduled two days for the work. Lisa and Dotty in the office were very helpful when I deleted a couple of the items, to revise the bill. Dave and intern Alex came out the first day and worked very efficiently to wire the basement, install the outlets and hang my antique lights, putting in a full day of work. Mike and Alex came the next day and installed the track lighting, the heat tape to the gutters, and upgraded the electrical box, also a full day of work. As Bill had told me, they only hire pleasant employees. And they went beyond by doing a few little extra favors, like hooking up the dehumidifier, securing some old wiring, and putting a coat of spackle on my ceiling.
