I contracted with this company because they say they have experience with older buildings.I purchased this building in 2003.I have been working with this company for several years 2006, patiently waiting for them to find this leak. They have come out and everytime they come out they charge me.but they never fix the leak.I called and made them aware that the roof is still leaking they said they would come out and do a water test. That was in November 2011
Description of Work: Purchased a building that has a leaky roof. Hired to come out and locate leak and fix it.

They came out and supposedly corrected it. They problem happened again, only this time more severely and they said it was not an issue with the roof. It looked like there was mildew in my walls. They denied that there was a problem and I am just disgusted with the experience.

The work we did was completed in Feb. 2010 , not Nov. 2011 as you stated . When you started having more isseus in Nov. a year and a half after the work was done , we fullfilled our obligation and came out to do any repairs on our work . There were no issues with the work we did . There were other issues causing problems that you were informed of . Since this is not what you wanted to hear you turn around and badmouth us on Angies List . Again , there is nothing wrong with the work we did ! Ed O'Neill sales manager

I found them on Angie's List, and they were first rate and did a very good job. They showed up on time and were very professional. They crew came out on time and did what they were supposed to do in more than a timely manner. They were excellent. My wife and I are considering using them later on in the near future for replacing windows since they do that too. He gave me a discount right away as soon as I told the gentleman that I got his name out of the Angie's List monthly book. I got a good service and I got a good quality roof that is guaranteed for 10 years. The guys were very professional and very courteous. They were first rate all the way. They put in a brand new skylight for me free of charge. I had got other estimates and they gave me the best price considering the work they did on my house. It was a win-win situation all the way around and I have nothing but good things to say about them.
Description of Work: City Wide Roofing Inc put in a new roof for me. They put in a brand new skylight for me free of charge.

I contacted City Wide Roofing by email on November 3. Ed O'Neil came out on Nov 4, surveyed the roof, took pictures for my husband to see the condition of the roof. Ed explained what needed to be done, wrote an estimate that my husband accepted. Later, I called Ed who explained to me what needed to be done and emailed the pictures for me to see. At the time of the estimate, we were told to expect the work to be done in about two weeks and two weeks later on Nov 20 the workers came and set about replacing the roof, skylight, shingles and drain pipe from the roof. The workers did a good job of cleaning up; one returned the next day to clean-up some debris that was left on our steps. Although we don't have after pictures of the roof, we feel comfortable the job was done right. Over the next months of rain, ice and snow will be the test. The roof is warranted for 10 years, the shingles for 30 years. My husband and I are pleased overall with City Wide Roofing.

We are not amazed by City Wide - since they do most of the roofing around this area. They already have a local Reputation. We are just completely satisfied- like everyone else. They came, they saw, they fixed , the End. My husband and I do not have time to follow up and call contractors back and beg them to come out and do the work for us anymore. Before we used Angie's List some disorganized, dishonest and disreputable companies had taken advantage of us. Now, it looks like the economic downturn has helped companies who provide good service rise above the masses, as their sloppy competition naturally starts to go out of business. We appreciate Angie's List for giving us an easy way to screen contractors. We recommend City Wide to our neighbors and friends and family as well as sharing our experience here on the Angie's List.
Description of Work: You should just call City Wide and be done with it- Everyone in our area uses them and they are the best. We called the 3 highest rated ROOFING companies on Angie's List- for Estimates City Wide responded to our call IMMEDIATELY. Came the NEXT DAY to do an Estimate- and were EARLY for our appointment. DO ask to inspect ALL the roofing areas with City Wide (or others). DON'T expect to be called back by every roofing company- We have not received a call back from any other company YET!!!!! DO ask for a full inspection -They gave us a detailed tour of our roof- Inside and Out- We climbed around in both attics and learned what has to be done now, when to expect to replace our roof and what we can do to extend the life of our old roof. DON'T expect every company to have your best interests at heart. City Wide is the best because of their service-period. OUR REPAIRS were made by City Wide the FOLLOWING DAY after the estimate. clean and seal all vents, pipes, flashing, preventative sealing above drip lines on roof etc. BAM! This is what I want from a great roofing company. Thank you City Wide.

They came out, provided an estimate, and performed the work on a timely basis. However, during the first heavy rain, the roof leaked in exactly the same spot. Called the roofer. First response was, "Someone will be in touch within 48 hours". Didn't hear from anyone. Called again. Second response was, "We have a copy of your work order. You are on the contact list." Again, we heard nothing. More rain, more leakage. Called for a third time. No response at all. Horrible roofing company. Shoddy work and abhorrent customer service and follow-up.

When they came out and did the estimate, they told me it would be $800.00 for both the roof and window. After some consideration I decided I did not want them to do the window. I told them three times to not work on the window and they insisted they work on it. I gave them $400.00 in good faith, and I saw they did not do the window right and however they went ahead and changed an additional $400.00 that I did not authorize.

By our records you did approve the work because your window was causing your leak . Your leak has stopped . You paid us 400 dollars when the job was done and asked if we would let you pay the balance the next month . We agreed even though the contract stated payment in full when the work was done . After numerous times trying to contact you for the balance , with no luck , we collected your debt by running your card again . What i dont understand is why you are so upset when you were not honoring your end of the agreement . Thank you Ed O'Neill - sales manager

Overall I am satisfied and would hire them again.
Description of Work: I needed a new roof. Many of the roofers I called (all from Angie's list) didn't bother to call back. Of the ones that responded, City Wide Roofing was more punctual and got the job. It seems to me that they did a very good job, but will see the quality of the work during the winter. the replaced the roof with a new rubber roof, warrented for ten years, and replaced the skylight.

Competitive price, and things started out great - The owner guy - Paul - came out the day after I called him and had measurements done the next day - Supplies dropped off 2 days later, work started 5 days after initial contact. That was great.Workers spoke very little english and were outsourced by the company, with a company employed foreman coming out every 2 or 3 days to be sure work was coming along correctly. Roof was done in 4 or 5 days, siding was very carefully and meticulously performed by the another out sourced team of non english speakers. (I've got nothing against someone who speaks no english - I just know how this industry works, and these guys are hired by the roofing company who basically takes care of the warranty)I should have been suspicious when the foreman guy was upset that my neighbor took half the old aluminum siding for scrap - he got $400 for it - and after I mentioned that I wanted to keep it, they made sure to come back and take the other half anyway. That aluminum siding was mine, and I should have been asked what I wanted to do with it. Honestly had no idea the value of it.So that was the start of the problem - the roofers were good about cleaning their nails, but the siders didn't clean at all. I picked up, by hand, a few HUNDRED nails from my driveway. Once I looked down, I noticed they were everywhere. They're all over the perimeter of the roof on the ground; there's gotta be 1000 or more. I've been picking them up for the last 9 months so my 18 month old daughter doesn't play with them. Paul said "That's a little thing to worry about when the work is so good". Yeah - my wife or myself with a flat is small potatoes to him - to me, it's something that should have been done and taken care of when I mentioned it. Then Hurricane Irene rolled through in August. We were out of town and came home to a 4'x4' hole in the ceiling from a water leak in our new roof. All is good though, because of the warranty, right? No. You'd be wrong. You can't get these guys out for service after the sale. I called 5 times before I got an actual date and time frame that someone would be out. First, second and third came and went with no call / no show. I'm getting p***** at the poor guy that answers the phone because NOTHING IS HAPPENING. Two more rains come though and I still have water leaking into my house. I find Paul's (Owner) cell number and he assures me that someone will be out ASAP. Finally, after nearly 2 weeks of calling back and fourth, a couple roofers show up and put a nice patch on the suspected leak area. Cut to next rain - we still have a leak. I've been on the phone at least once a day for the last 5 days with the same guy, who, again, is assuring me that "I'll see if I can get someone out to look at it" or "I'll get a contractor to call when one comes in", but the problem is that this never happens. I'm going to have to call Paul (Owner) again to get anything done. I shouldn't have to bug the owner guy to get stuff done. A professional company would have appointment calendars for warranty work. I feel abandoned in this and am almost to the point to call someone else to fix it and get it done so I can fix the hole in my ceiling and move on with my life. I got laid off so I've been a stay at home dad, so I can be here if and when they decide to show up - but what if I needed to take a day off to deal with this and they don't show??? It drives me crazy that I keep getting the same crap over and over again from the poor guy on the phone, who apparently does just that and is not involved with roof repair in any way, and does not sound empowered to actually MAKE someone come out. Gotta say that these guys being one of the top roofing companies in Philadelphia has shaken my trust in Angie's list as a "go to" source, because these guys stink for follow up. Initial work and service was great, but God forbid you have any problem after the sale. It's "Sayonara, Sucker!!!" And what's the deal with taking my aluminum???? If it's that valuable, I should be told about it. My down on his luck neighbor wanted the siding for himself, and I said he could have it. Even if it's scrap, it's mine. They shouldn't be taking it unless they asked, especially if it's valuable. I could have paid for the work permit with that money. I know Paul checks these - I read a BUNCH of reviews before I chose them - and there's always some reason or excuse why whatever bad experience the customer had happened - Don't believe the hype - I'm sure they're busy with all the weather we've had here lately - but this company seriously STINKS with follow up - and I have a warranty, and my roof leak should be taken care of, and here I am, with my first leak occurring at end August, with the same leak still going on and can't get a call back or an appointment to take care of me after the sale. They sure were quick to get that $25000 check and get the work done, but woe to you if you need them after that. And don't forget to check for nails, as they don't clean up their mess. **Update: 1/20/2015: Here we are over 4 years later; I've been meaning to write this for a while but the nails I keep finding in my driveway (and my tires) finally spurred me lookup this review up so long after the fact. Wife keeps getting flats; I keep running into nails. I highly highly suspect that it's nails in my driveway because I'm they're everywhere. Hundreds. Just takes a coupler freeze/thaw cycles to bring them up out of the mud and introduce themselves into your tire. If you read the original report above, Paul said "It's nothing to worry about, since the work's so good". It's not Paul. Can't say there's ever a good time for a nail in the tire, and I think of you guys Every. Time. It feels like I'm getting nailed somewhere else, even after all these years. As for the leak, their guys came out once or twice more to inspect, insisted that it had nothing to do with CityWide work and that was that. The leaking continued until I decided enough was enough and went to dumping water in the window sills to discover that they were the issue, as CityWide had alluded to. What CityWide failed to discover is that on both of my front facing windows, their workers covered and plugged the weep holes for the windows, giving the water nowhere to drain but into the frame and down into the ceiling. Before CityWide, we had no leak. After CityWide, we had leaking and their guys weren't able to discover what should have been a fairly simple thing. It took me a while, and I had a hole in my ceiling for a couple years, but I finally drilled, sleeved and caulked new weep holes in both windows, tested by dumping water and allowing a few rains and was able to drywall patch my ceiling this last summer. It still galls me that I have to deal with these nails, and there's really no way to fetter these out at this point. It should have been pretty straightforward to think that "Maybe we shouldn't drop a crapload of nails in the driveway because maybe, maybe they'll be using their driveway to park cars, and cars have pneumatic tires, and nails and pneumatic tires are not a good mix"; sadly, this was not the case. So while we got a good deal on the roof and work was done expediently (I'm still p***** about the AL siding theft by their workers too), I'm still stuck here holding my junk in my hand, still paying for the shoddy cleanup job completed over three years ago. I've also got my leak from my windowsills, directly caused by their coverage of the weep holes, fixed as well, 100% without their help. But hey Paul, nothing to worry about since the work was so good right? Why should I worry about nails in my tires year after year because the work was so good, right Paul?? Oh, they also sealed shut 2 windows in my Sunroom by applying siding over the windows. Went to crank them open as we created a new guest room this summer and couldn't. Had to cut siding/caulk/glue to get open. That's not what I wanted, Paul. The price is wrong, Paul. The Price is wrong.

Received a reference from a neighbor who had work done recently. I called John and met for an appraisal soon after. After negotiating the price, we set an installation date for the next week. They completed the job on the day determined and it has been fine for a bit over a year now. But recently I've tried to contact them for work on another propery, possibly due workload (many storms lately), it has been difficult to contact them for additional work. Other than this, their performance has been good.

I had a terrible experience with them. They have not owned up to any of the problems I have had.
Description of Work: They put four layers of roofing on for me. Our city code is no more than 2 layers. I now have leaks and had to contract a another roofer to rip the roof off to the decking. I still will have to hire someone to rip off the third floor roof. It has cost me $70,000 with the repairs for the second floor down. I had black mold from the leaks and had to rip out the plaster of the walls. Which then lead to other city requirements to update plumbing and electrical.

After contacting City Wide Roofing, Jim, the estimator, called to set up an appointment the next morning. He arrived while I was at work but later in the day and estimate was e-mailed to me. I had some questions concerning job. Jim made a return visit and answered all my questions. He wanted to start the job the next day but rain prevailed for the next week. During this time, Jim called me with updates on a possible starting date. On the day of the job, the City Wide crew arrived on time. They took particular care not to damage the landscaping and extended basement windows. Before I knew it, the crew was on the roof removing the old materials and disposing it into their trucks. Originally, Jim thought the job would take a day and a half to complete. Returning home from work that evening, 6:30pm, I was surprised to see the City Wide crew still at my house. Then, I noticed they were sweeping the pavement, examining the yard for debris, and packing their trucks. They completed the job in a single day! The crew of Hyner, Luis, Harry, and Jose were amazing. The job was done exactly to detail and looks great. I had some minor leaks before but not now. I cannot say enough about the crew. They swept my neighbor's pavement and was very concern the heavy trucks would crack my pavement. It did not. Because of previously bad roofing work performed by major roofing contractors, I was hesitant to use a roofer contractor again. I wanted to do the work myself but time was a big factor. City Wide Roofing was prompt, professional, and on budget. I would use them again and recommend them to anyone needing roofing work. Thanks City Wide.
Description of Work: Main roof and porches Remove and dispose of two layers of roofing materials on the main roof and two porches. Minor repair of the decking on the main roof with plywood Apply a sand base sheet to the entire roof. Install torch down granulated roof to the main roof and the two porches. Install three 3" aluminum eave boxes. Install white capping around the entire roof edge. Pent roof Remove and dispose of concrete tiles. Patch decking with plywood and install 15lb. felt paper. Install ice and water shield. Install three dimensional shingles and shingle hips on two corners. Install ridge roll at the top of the pent roof. Garage doorway roof Remove and dispose old roofing to the decking. install 15lb. felt paper and three dimensional shingles. install a drip edge.

I called them because I had a leak in my living room. I have a house that joins with another one. Both of our roofs are leaking. They put in a new rubber roof last year and now it is leaking again. When I called them on August 13th and told them about the leak in the roof they did not act like they cared and no one has came out. This has messed up the paint job in my living room that was just done. They came today and only had the work order for my house and not my sisters which is connected. They are saying that when they put the roof on they were not paid to fix the leak problem that we have and did the work knowing this was not being taken care of. If they had come out when I first spoke with them this problem could have been solved.
Description of Work: This was for follow up on a roof that they put on last year. I originally called CityWide because of water damage that occured in my home and the home next door which belongs to my sister. I explained that the water damage occured in the front corner where the houses join. When workers were on my roof to do repairs they noticed damage to my sister's roof and told her she needed a new one also. My roof was done 4/15/10 and my sister's done 11/29/10, also by Citywide. Both of us were pleased with their work and had no problems until my sister developed a leak in the same spot in August 2011. I called for her on 8/15/11, 8/22/11,and 8/25/11. No one responded. Shortly after this we had a lot of rain and my home developed a leak in the same spot as before ruining my paint job in my living room. When CityWide finally responded to numerous calls from me and came out to make repairs around 12/8/11 they had a worker order for my home only even though I farst started calling about my sister's home. The workers said that my contract covered the flat roof only although I did have some repairs made to the slate roof. I feel that the problem could have been identified and corrected if some one had responded when I first started calling. Because nothing was done and the extensive amount of rain we had, not only is my living room damaged but my basement also flooded from water flowing through a hole in the roof...I spoke with John Hummell from Citywide on 9/9and he was supposed to get back to me. As of today 9/14, he has not done so.

They did not come when they said they were going to come. They caught me off guard, I'll put it to you that way; they seemed like they were in a hurry. He may have done a fantastic job on the roofing but I feel he could have come a better job on the capping. I inquired for the company to come over and check on this issue, after 6 phones calls, no one never came over. I do not understand how this company could be so highly ranked on Angie's List when he can not even follow up with me. I feel I at least deserve a phone call. The roof is under a 30 year warranty and I would think the company would be willing to come and check on this potential issue. He is not backing up his warranty.

My roof and gutters needed to be replaced because of age. City Wide came out and gave me estimate. One key thing I wanted was to have gutter guards installed. There are some high trees around my house and the gutters regularly fill up and get clogged with leaves. I was hoping to eliminate this problem with new covered gutters. The Estimator told me I could have gutter guards but never actually wrote it down in his paperwork. I was given a catalog of shingle styles and was later told that my choice was not available so I picked another style. The Estimator said the job could be done in a day and I agreed. My house is also in need of new siding and windows and I talked to the Estimator about the potential for more work after the roof and gutters were complete. On the scheduled day, a small army of City Wide employees showed up and went to work. After 2 days the job was 95% complete. The shingles gutters and and downspouts were all in place and functioning but I had no gutter guards. The Estimator stopped by unannounced and proceeded to tell me that there was few finishing touches that needed to be taken care of and someone would be back tomorrow. When I asked again about the gutter guards I was told that they would also be taken care of. We also talked more in detail about replacing the windows and siding on my house and he promised to give me an estimate. I made the mistake of paying him for the roof work before the job was completed. After 2 months I still have no gutter guards and I never received an estimate for windows and siding. I'm not even certain is all of the shingle work is actually finished (there is one section where the tiles are mis-matched). I have called the Estimator multiple times and Called the City Wide office to complain but the issue is still unresolved.
Description of Work: All roof shingles replaced. All new gutters and downspouts.

I spent $1,500 to have drip edge installed to fix a leak in my roof. I did some research on drip edge after-the-fact and found out that I could have bought the materials for about $100 and installed it myself about 3-4 hours. The irony? The drip edge did not fix the leak. I called City-Wide back at least once a week for the next TWO AND A HALF MONTHS before they sent someone else out. When they came back out, the estimator proceeded to tell me that I needed a new roof which they would do for $4,000 dollars - this after I already spent $1,500 on drip edge. I told him no way, wasn't happening. They sent another guy out two weeks later... and when he went up on the roof he found the problem in less than 30 seconds - we had a nail sticking out of a shingle that was causing the leaking. He fixed the problem in 10 minutes. So I was told a needed an entire new roof (that's five years old, nonetheless) when in reality I needed to replace once shingle due to a nail.
Description of Work: We had a leak coming into our kitchen whenever it rained. We called City-Wide roofing to come out and fix the lead.

They came out to address a weird leak that was missing the third floor and flowing in on the second floor. Both the person from City Wide and myself agreed that it had to do with poor flashing around the chimney. They came out soon after and flashed around the chimney. I paid them $450.00 for the service. So far so good. The problem was that the flashing didn't fix the leak. At the bottom of my receipt City Wide says that they will come out 3 times to correct a problem that was not fixed and if after that the problem is not fixed they will take 1/2 off the replacement of the entire roof. I called and complained a number of times about the leak and they never got back to me and never dealt with the situation. I paid them $450.00 for nothing. The roof is still leaking and they have never gotten back to me. They are a bunch of crooks and should be avoided at all costs.
Description of Work: I had a leak in a three story apartment building I own. City Wide came out and reflashed the area around the chimney to stop this leak.

I almost didn't use CityWide, but I'm glad I did. The first time I scheduled an in-house estimate, they were a last minute cancellation. The second time the guy got the time wrong. When I called, I told him I would wait until 11:00 a.m. exactly (one hour later than scheduled), but no later. He arrived at 11:04, but I thought what the heck? Everything after that was perfect. They were fast, professional, on-time and on-budget. Their workers knew what they were doing and did it very fast. They were careful when entering and exiting the house. So all in all I'm glad I waited the extra four mintues.
Description of Work: They reroofed the eave of my shed kitchen roof, put in a new downspout, flashed a window along the top of my roof, fixed a leak that had been dogging me for years and put some new siding up on a small portion of my back wall.

My husband said Jimmy from City Wide Roofing was very nice and professional and when I spoke to Glen on Saturday who set up the appointment, was very pleasant as well. Overall, everything went very well.
Description of Work: On July 8, 2011 we had a downpour with wind, thunder and lightening. When I got home I went outside and heard some water splashing looked up and it was a small waterfall coming from the roof. I called my husband and he said the gutter had come away from the roof along with the nails holding it and the water was coming down pretty hard. I went for my Angies List catalog and saw City Wide Roofing and saw they did gutter work and they were on the thumbs up page too. I called on Saturday July 9th and they came out on Monday July 11th. Jimmy looked up at the gutter and the shingles got a ladder and had the repair done very quickly. He directed the garden hose where he did the repair to make sure there would'nt be any problems and he said it looked good. He considered it a minor repair at no charge. We would use their services again and we are relieved that it was fixed quickly and would recommened City Wide Roofing to our family and friends.

We found them to be essentially professional and honorable. Upon completion we had a certified home inspector check the roof after completion; something we would recommend to anyone that does unless they can go up on the roof; something I did when a younger man; and know what to look for when up there; something I am not sure I am fully competent to access. The additional cost of $150 is small in comparison to a plus $4K repair and finding out the job was done poorly later. The report was good except for the initial mention that the ice shield had not been included. When I spoke with City Wide and mentioned that the original estimate from 1 year prior included it but their contract did not; he said if it was not include he would take care of it. I found that to be a very honorable response. We had held up 10% of the job until the inspection. City Wide came back and checked and told us the ice shield was installed. A conversaation with another certified inspector later; mentioned the ice shield is very difficult to see after completion of the roof; the inspector may have missed it. From our perspective City Wide was professional to work with; their price was essentially in the middle high in comparison to the other estimates we received. The fact that we decided last minute to have the inspector check the roof and held up 10% of the job City Wide though not pleased handled it professionally; we did this process very quickly so they were not held up for more that 7-10 days for the final 10%. We had originally started getting quotes for the roof a little over one year prior to actually contracting for the job. City Wide was professional and did their best to stay with the original quotation. Roofers are a tough group for the average consumer to work with as their completed work is up out of most peoples close inspection reach. They also often have a short life span; the original quotaion with the lowest estimate was out of business. The contractor who had replace a smaller, lower portion of our roof and had been in business for many years was also out of businees. Use caution; we found City Wide a pleasant experience; I was surprised their were any negative reports on them. I did notive the negative reports I did see were from several years ago; the current were all good.
Description of Work: The major portion of the roof on our town home needed to be replaced. This involved removing all shingles and possible replacement of some plywood sheets as the roof had a second layer from a previous roof replaement.
