Best Choice Plumbing & Heating

My A/C died on a Saturday night, 7/20/13...during a very bad hotspell. I called 3 places that evening and Best Choice called me back within 15 minutes and scheduled an appointment for the next day(Sunday, 7/21/13). The technician didn't call me in the morning at the time he stated so I called him and left a message. He called right back and said he was tied up at another job and said he would be right over, of which he was. The bad news was my Carrier A/C of 5 years of age was dead. The tech gave me a few options that didn't sound too promising, it was more chance taking than repairing. I went with the new A/C option and converted to the new 410A refrigerant since the RF22 will be banned in the near future. They came out the next day and worked all day while I was at work, my spouse took a vacation day to accomodate the project. I really didn't have much time to get estimates before the project, but I looked into it after the work was done and they gave me a good price and I will use them again if needed.

They were excellent. No problems. It was an emergency, it happened on a weekend. They came out, we already knew ballpark of what it would cost. They were right on the money. They came the next day with the new heater and that was a Sunday. They put it in.

I called about 7:30 am and they were out about an hour later which was awesome. Within two hours the unit was fixed after they thawed the coil, cleaned the condenser of mortar, installed freon and a couple of other things. They gave me some advice about using a different filter that would increase airflow. I am impressed with the quality and the responsiveness. They are on the top of my list to do all my plumbing and HVAC work.

They were absolutely wonderful. They were here on time and did not leave until the job was done. They were here for almost twelve hours. They really worked very hard. They were very clean as well. They put plastic sheeting down, so that they wouldn't slack oil and dirt into the house and that made it so easy. I've had them out before to clean the heater out and the fluid. I actually scheduled a week after I talked to them and they arrived on time. I've used them three times and I liked them.

I had big trouble in this house I just purchased. The previous owner hid the fact that the plumbing was bad, by casing the pipes in cement, so it would pass inspections. After 2 months or so, I was told I needed to dig up the front sidewalk and replace the sewer pipe. Towards the end of the job, the plumber from Best Choice told me I had a bigger problem. I thought he might have been trying to get more money out of me, since I don't know anything about plumbing. I got 2 other professionals to look at it and they both said the same thing. I asked for estimates and Best Choice was the least expensive. I felt bad for doubting them, but being new to home ownership, I wanted to make sure. I called them back to do the job and they were able to fit me in on my schedule. They did a good job and were professional all the way through. I had a total of 3 jobs done, on 3 different days and 2 different teams of people. All the plumbers were considerate of my new hardwood floors and personable.The only parts that were not as good were the cement in the bathroom was overfilled a little, so the tiles would not have been able to be put back properly. I called them and they sent someone out to re do the cement, which put me back a couple days, but it wasn't something major, so I was ok with it. Also, I think the clean-up could have been a little better, but again, it wasn't terrible. Overall, they are a great choice to go with for all plumbing needs. Probably the least expensive too.

I would never call them again. They did respond and came back, but I don't feel that I should have called twice. I had faucets and spickets replaced in the bathroom tub and sink. They put in a new pipe underneath the kitchen sink. The plumber left and I was cleaning everything up. As I was cleaning, the pipe that was installed began to leak. We called them and they came back and fixed it. Later that night, we went to take a shower and turned the water on and the spicket came off in our hand. The switch for bath to shower never worked. They had to come back several times and got it all fixed but I just wasn't satisfied.

I have subsequently been very pleased with their work and got a 5 year warranty. I was initially surprised because there was a huge hole in my family room floor, which I was not prepared for. At one point, I thought everything was taken care of, but it turned out to be more labor intensive. The original quote was $2200 but it was increased to $3000. Overall though, I was pleased with what was done.

Long story short: I needed my water reconnected ASAP. Called these guys (before researching their deservedly godawful reputation on here,) and went with them due to their stellar reviews elsewhere on the web/a Best of Philly award from a local mag. The receptionist was really lovely, and I got someone out on the same day. The guy who arrived was nice enough, although he charged me far more than necessary ($165) for a new pop-up assembly and S-trap for my bathroom sink. (I rolled with it, thinking that I may as well bite the bullet and pay that money as long as I had him there, which - in retrospect - was stupid. This guy then checked out my water situation, and told me that the repair needed was too involved for him to do on that particular day, so he gave me an estimate for a few days ahead. All of the good plumbers on here were busy, so I figured I'd go with them. They guaranteed me that they'd show up first thing this morning, but there was no sign of the guy. Called the company, and they hadn't even sent someone out yet. An hour and a half after this idiot was supposed to show up, he finally did. After blowing the fuse in the living room (plugging in a jackhammer that needs way more juice than my circuitry is rated for,) being obscenely late, etc, this guy finally got the water up and going again. (This was done well enough, which is why the final grade isn't a big, fat F.) I then pointed out some leaks that needed to be addressed in the house while the plumber was finishing up, (pre-existing; not his fault,) and was told that he couldn't do some basic diagnostics/patchwork right then. I decided to just call someone who actually seems to know what they're doing, instead. Just avoid these overpriced losers.

Best Choice Plumbing left me with a basement floor covered in pitch black sewer water; an insurance claim for clean-up, decontamination, and restoration in excess of $15000; guages in the street and on my driveway from their backhoe; and a bill for $2300 for outside cleanout drain, when $230 to lift the basement powder room toilet and snake out to clear the drain clog would have solved my orignal problem. Overall, this was a complete DISASTER!! In addition to the above: 1) They promised to come on 6/6/12 when I first called, but didn't send anyone until 6/7. 2) I felt pressured to buy something I didn't really need at 10 times the cost of the simpler solution. But they had my 50% down payment. Their sales man, J.T. told me that lifting the toilet would result in filthy sewer water gushing into my powder room - - the outside cleanout would be cleaner. 3) I asked twice, but the job boss (N.) made excuses why they couldn't give me the work permit from my township on 6/12. 4) The job boss (N.) and his assistant (V.) spent about 50% of the time before 3:00 pm either away from my job site or sitting in their vehicles to avoid the rain on the day of service 6/12/12. They had a lot of trouble locating the main sewer drain pipe in my front yard. N. (the job boss) sent me into the house to run water in the kitchen sink and to flush the second floor toilet 5-6 times. He seemed dissatisfied with the amount of water running through the drain, even after he had snaked extensively. It was about 6:30 pm by the time they left. 5) The job boss (N.) screamed at me when I told him I wanted to speak to his supervisor after I saw my basement floor covered in foul black water. When I asked and quot;Aren't you going to clean up the mess you made in my basement?and quot; N. yelled, and quot;Lady, we aint no housekeeping service!and quot; 6) The operations manager (M.) came to my house on 6/15/12 after the emergency water clean-up and decontamination was done and the day after my insurance adjuster had inspected the damage. M. made excuses for his workmen - - and quot;These things happen...and quot; and told me I should be glad it was 'just a basement'. 7) The only person from Best Choice who had the human decency to say he was 'sorry for the trouble' was the assistant, V. P.S. The above experience occurred before I joined Angie's List. I chose Huttenlock/Best Choice because 1) Huttenlock was on teh 2012 list of approved master plumbers for Cheltonham Township PA (my municipality) 2) Best Choice is rated A+ by Better Business Bureau 3) Best Choice was awarded a Best of Philly Award for Best Plumber in 2009

I'd gotten estimates from four other places that ranged from $500-800 and I was really skeptical of the prices. I've used Best Choice before so I called them to come take a look. I was thrilled when Anthony gave me the price and he did the work on the spot. He was in and out in 45 minutes! I can't rave enough about Best Choice, and I'm looking forward to having Anthony come back and do some more work with other projects.

I had used them on previous occasions and it had worked out good. They did a good job.

I have modified this review based on subsequent things I have learned. I originally called them the best in the business. I don't think that is true anymore. I learned for example, that no permit was filed with the city to do this work which is very surprising to me. While they worked all night to finish the job, there were clear violations of safety rules made which could have been dangerous in not shoring up the trench walls securely. I also discovered that there is another technology called trench less sewer replacement which would have been a much better solution but was something they could not do. My final discovery was that the original new trap put in only 6 months ago had a hole at the bottom of it which would have eventually clogged the drain. Not putting in new intact piping when you are paying over $12,000 for a job is simply not excusable. The rest of my review below is still true. What do you say about a team of plumbers who literally worked from 8:30 AM to 9 AM the following day to finish what some have called the and quot;worst plumbing joband quot; they ever encountered. It was an amazing marathon of work. They literally dug a trench with a backhoe up a steep hill and around a precious tree in order to begin the job at 9 AM. They dug 20 feet into the ground in order to find the sewer line only to discover that it was terra cotta and it was recommended to me not to replace it. They told me around 4 PM after having dug all day that I would have to have a new contract for more money but that they would dig into the middle of my house, find the cast iron pipe in the basement and put a new pipe under the foundation of the house! I thought they would go home and do this the next day, but they decided to start that evening. They literally dug out the cement floor in my basement with hammers and shovels to find the sewer line and then excavated a hole under the basement and under the foundation of the house. Meanwhile they used a backhoe outside of the house to dig out under the foundation of the house and placed an iron pipe through the floor wall which was the beginning of the new sewer line. They dug working backwards using the backhoe toward the curb, adding pipe, connecting joints with lead at depths of 10-13 feet underground. At my request, they avoided digging up a tree that must be 80-100 years old and a retaining wall that would have cost a lot of money to replace. Working through the night and after midnight when I finally went to sleep some, they inched backwards to put in a new sewer line, trap and vent at the curb and then hooked it up to the street sewer. When I got up in the morning, they were putting the final mounds of dirt over the trench and worked on sweeping up my neighbor's walkway which was buried under three feet of soil. I have a few minor complaints. They smoked too much and left butts around the grounds. The molten lead was on the grass and I will spend some time cleaning it up. The soil was simply replaced without tamping which means that I have to wait a few weeks before replacing the cement walkway so that the soil can settle. And there are a lot of big rocks that have to be removed in order to landscape the property. But I remain in deep admiration of the dedication and work of these sewer line workers and the backhoe operator. They really worked on no sleep to finish this job despite my own admonition that they should go home and get some sleep. I am reassured that they all got the next day off.

Best Choice Plumbing is my new favorite plumber. I like to research and email companies before hiring them. If they don't have a website, I'm not buying. Best Choice does have a website with info on the owner and details about services they provide - so we are good there. After emailing them with what I needed (repair of a leaky pipe in the basement), they promptly responded and came out the next day for an estimate. They were very accommodating - most plumbers don't work late (or charge more if they do). Best Choice was always willing to work with my hectic and busy schedule. They arrived and repaired the pipe quickly. The entire time they kept asking if I wanted to see what they were doing. I really appreciated that. They are also very nice people - which is refreshing. I enjoyed their company. I have 2 crazy dogs and they had no problem with them.

They brought a backhoe and spent twelve and a half hours fixing the problem. They did a good job and worked very hard. I have had no problems since. They never came into the house to bother me, they didn't ask to even use the restroom. Another thing that pleased me was that they gave me a senior discount. I couldn't tell you enough good things about them, they were wonderful.

Naturally it was a cold snowy day about 4PM. I saw the water heater was leaking. We called Best Choice and they said they would be there in a couple of hours. I had my doubts. The guy showed up at 7 and had it done by 8.

I've used them a few time sand they always do good work. After they fixed the problem there was an issue with water in the basement and they came out on an emergency call and fixed the problem.

They were really good. They were inexpensive. The job went well and we haven’t had any problem since then. I will use them again.

The guy arrived on time and was polite and pleasant. The drains appeared to be working fine afterward. I was told there was a 30 day warranty. Within 30 days, the shower drain was already draining slowly again and had begun making an odd noise for a few minutes after the shower is turned off. When I called (within 30 days) to ask if they could take another look at it, I was told that if it was just draining slowly there was nothing they could do and I should plunge it myself. I do not consider that a satisfactory response.

I phoned around 9am upon discovering a flood in my basement. I was informed someone would be at my house in the afternoon, I called around 3:30 and was told someone would be at my house after 5pm. I then phoned at 6:30 and was told the plumber would be to me next. Finally at 8:30 I received a phone call stating no one was coming. It was completely unprofessional and inconsiderate. I called a couple plumbers prior to, and the ones I spoke to informed me they would have trouble squeezing me in, which is the professional thing to do. I had one call back and offered to come in the afternoon and I turned them down because "Best Choice" was coming. Now I have to call out of work again to get the work done because a waste pipe is leaking and cannot wait.

I tore out a Moen tub/shower faucet without having any idea what I was doing. After calling 6 other plumbing companies over two days, Best Choice sent someone out to my house to take a look just 3 hours after I called. They gave me some options with prices and put me on the schedule for 9am the next morning. They were such nice guys, on time, explained everything, and gave me the best price of anyone I called. Gave their name/number to my friends and will be calling them for more work soon.

As back on 10/15/09 when they installed a new double sink and evacuator pump in my basement, this service call went smoothly and promptly. There were no problems at all and the plumber was very professional and courteous. A short and simple description of the service call to be sure but how long an anecdote does one have to write when the job went so well for a second time?

When I called Best Choice I fully expected I would have to schedule a service call for later in the week. After I explained the situation the courteous secretary informed me that someone would be at my residence as soon as possible and that if the problem was a result of their work it would be corrected with no charge to me. The plumber arrived promptly and discovered that it was indeed a faulty pressure release valve that had been put on the water heater when it was installed. He replaced the pressure release valve and I was charged nothing. Once again the plumber was very courteous, professional and personable. I have to give credit to Angie's List because it was through Angie's that I researched plumbers and picked Best Choice Plumbing. I am extremely pleased with Best Choice and definitely have peace of mind knowing that I have a plumbing company that is very professional, forthright and honest.

Terrific experience from start to finish. The email request for service received a very quick. The service man arrived at the scheduled time, reviewed and explained the situation in detail, and did the needed repairs promptly and professionally. I was completely satisfied with the level and quality of service and the professionalism of the plumber. I would definitely use them again.
