Description of Work: Tom did a wonderful job. His main concern is that the job is done right AND the customer is beyond happy. He is always on time. Tom keeps a neat orderly workspace and cleans up everyday. His work is meticulous. We liked his work so much, we're having him back to do the master bath. Tom does one job at a time. Genuinely a nice guy. | |Pete B.

This project went well and I am very satisfied with the results. We have been using the bath now for over a month and everything works well. It was easy to have Tom around the house and he was careful, clean and respectful. Towards the end of the project I needed to leave town unexpectedly and was comfortable having Tom finish the project while I was gone.
Description of Work: Complete remodel of 1 &3/4 bath. The initial bid was for $6215 based on tile I selected. This price included removing and disposing of existing flooring, complete tile shower/base, toilet and vanity. The remodel included a 42" high wainscoting using 6" x 12" tile. The same 6" x 12" tile to extend in and complete the shower walls over a 48" x 34" Swanstone shower base, new shower faucet, new vanity and faucet, new toilet, and 12" tile floor, and finishing the drywall ready to paint. I upgraded the toilet and vanity from his material list so the final price was $400 higher. He also moved an electric outlet and fixed an outside faucet for me.

Great! The work is excellent and the price was, too. Our bathrooms look really, really great. And, Tom is a real decent guy, so it never felt like an imposition to have him in the house. I appreciated that he seemed to have a good sense of the look, style, price I was going for and he suggested materials that were a good fit.
Description of Work: Tom completely remodeled two full bathrooms at our house. That included demo, haul away, flooring, tiling, tub, toilet, sink, vanity, mirror, lighting, paint - everything. I had a fairly specific idea for one bathroom but a more general idea for the other, so he also assisted in design.

I saw three other people for quotes, and he was the most innovative of them all. He was able to suggest some flooring changes that maximized the space than others suggested and at a cheaper price than the others.

Terrific. Tom is very professional, and trustworthy [his first week of work, we were on vacation]. He also did a fantastic job of meeting unexpected needs as they arose [floor spots not level, adjusting walls to accommodate different space needs of new showers]. He was primarily interested in meeting our needs and budget in the selection of fixtures rather than trying to "sell" us on expensive items. The end results have been very beautiful and functional for us. In sum, Tom is a great pleasure to work with. Highest recommendation.
Description of Work: Tom Walter remodeled 2 1/2 bathrooms, adding a shower to the 1/2, to create three bathrooms with a completely updated look. Our house was built in 1968. Tom removed old fixtures, re-tiled two of the floors, and installed three new showers, vanities, mirrors, lighting fixtures and towel bars. He also did everything (plumbing, etc) necessary to prepare for installation of fixtures, etc.

This job went great from start to finish. I have an old 1950's house whose walls are not exactly square. The original homeowners had also installed some tile over tile making the area where the shower meets the wall very uneven and unsightly. Tom did a wonderful job in what I am sure was a very difficult task. My bathroom has drawn rave reviews from anyone who has seen it. It went from ghastly ugly to modern and beautiful. Tom even took care not to let my 14 year old cat escape outside, though he tries constantly.
Description of Work: Re-tiled shower walls, installed new vanity top, installed new fixtures in shower and sink, replaced hardware on the door, trimmed out the floor.

Our shower was leaking for the third time in 20 years, so this time we decided to get rid of the tub, which we never used, and have a new expanded tile shower installed. Tom came in with the best estimate out of three that we had done, and he was the only one who guaranteed his work. He was prompt and accurate with both his estimate and the work itself. He is easy to work with and did a beautiful job. While the project was going on, he cleaned up the mess every day and neatly stacked his tools and supplies so they were out of our way. He was as unobtrusive as possible in this type of situation. He was also flexible as I changed my mind on listellos, panels, shower heads, etc. He wrote a contract before he started the work, and his assessment of the time and money involved was exact. Although he did not install the frameless glass door/walls (this was a corner unit shower), he arranged for the glass company to come in. His workmanship is excellent and we will certainly call him again if we have any other bathroom or kitchen projects done.
Description of Work: Tom removed our old fiberglass jacuzzi tub and shower, tiled the floor where the tub was with matching existing floor tile, and replaced the shower unit with a base and tiled walls. He reconfigured the plumbing to match the new shower and added a hand-held shower head in addition to the regular shower head. He also installed drywall where needed after removing the tub.

The work went very well. Both my wife and I are extremely satisfied with the end result. Tom busted his hump getting this work done. After we received the quote and awarded COMPLETE BATHROOM DESIGN the business, we confirmed our direction/product preferences and signed a contract. The contract and estimating process were informative and helpful. One of the things we liked about Tom is his attention to detail and desire to be informative and concise. From estimate to contract, we could walk through the project activities/objectives (in writing) and confirm that Tom had captured and understood all our requirements. Furthermore, we were able to understand the detail/rationale behind the total price tag. Because we had the detail in front of us, we could negotiate and make trade-offs on product selections in order to adjust the project into a price range that was commensurate with our budget. One other point -- Tom is accessible. He answered questions (by email or phone) promptly, and also provided unsolicited design suggestions and updates. Even throughout the project, if he was running late due to an errand at the hardware store, he always took a minute to let us know and provide ETAs. It is rare to find a contractor who understands customer service and professionalism, as well as being an expert in his craft. In short, all the work met the requirements. He came in on time and on budget. We have earmarked Tom for one more bathroom project -- our master bath, which we can hopefully tackle in summer 2010. October 2010 update: Due to financial constraints, we had to delay our second bathroom renovation with Tom. Once we are back on stable footing, we will move forward with the project. Can't wait!
Description of Work: Tom Walter provided the estimate and the actual work on our hallway bathroom (both demo and renovation). This bath is a full, tub/shower, 40" vanity, etc. We approached 3 contractors for quotes (COMPLETE BATHROOM DESIGN being one of them). Tom won our trust right away, and thus won the work. The bathroom was horribly dated (1961) with low quality improvements in the 1970s and 1990s (i.e., pink tile; original cast iron tub that had lost its glaze; leaky toilet; industrial fluorescent lighting; old tile floors (wrong tile and grout was used); calcified piping under sink; and so on). The bathroom required a complete demo and renovation. Improvements included new bathtub; tub fixtures; faucet; toilet; mirror; vanity and vanity top; lighting; exhaust fan with proper venting; slate floor tile; shower walls and soap dishes; dry-wall repair and painting; GFCI outlet, and accessories (crescent shower rod, shelving, towel and TP racks, etc.). These replacements were high quality Kohler and Delta products with Murray Feiss lights/Mirror and NuTone exhaust fan. Tom personally tackled all aspects of this project from the demo, new sub-floor construction, electrical work, exhaust fan (vented to exterior), general plumbing, installations, dry wall repair, painting, and baseboarding. As far as the design, Tom introduced us to some new, modern options and material (such as Swanstone), and provided a good design baseline for us to work with. We bought most of our products from Fergusons. Note: We opted not to tile the shower walls and instead chose a Swanstone system, which included a very clean, simple, maintenance-free shower wall product with decorative trim, and recessed accessories for shower shelving. We chose Swanstone for our vanity top as well over a more expensive granite option. And despite being a little less expensive, the product has a very rich and high-quality texture (not cheap and plastic-like). Our choice of Swanstone over wall tile helped drop our overall labor costs.

Tom provided an estimate for remodeling my bathroom. The estimate total job cost was $10,626 (includes all costs except shower tile). He was prompt and very pleasant. He provided some very good ideas for the project. I would certainly recommend him to someone that needs a bathroom remodel. My wife and I, have made a decision to postpone the bathroom renovation. After looking material cost that we want and having few estimates we came to the conclusion that we have to do more savings for this project. I felt bad that I didn't give him the business. I certainly will consider him in the future.
Description of Work: This includes removal and disposal of adjoining hall closet, wet-bed floor, shower walls, tub, faucet, vanity and vanity top and toilet. Reconfiguring the plumbing to accommodate a shower to replace existing tub/shower and a double versus single bowl vanity arrangement. The remodeled room shall receive large floor tile over 1/4" cement based tile substrate, trimmed in wood baseboard. Tub walls will be tiled also on a cement based substrate over a Swanstone solid surface base. The space created by removing the hall/bath closet will allow the installation of a double bowl vanity. The walls affected by removing closet will be drywalled, sanded and ready for paint. Lighting will be a bank of three or four recessed lights over a large plate glass mirror, approximately 60" x 60". Toilet, , air duct and GFCI are to be moved.

We needed to update our master bath and hall bath from the original 1983 versions. We also needed to be mindful of the amount of money that we were spending to update the house since we had several things to do and the houses in our neighborhood have just not appreciated greatly since 1990 when we bought the house. We also plan to be moving in 5 - 7 years. I called Tom on 4/7 to schedule an estimate for the master bath work. He responded the next day and scheduled an appointment for the afternoon of 4/9. On the day of the estimate he was running late and called to let me know that. He gave an approximate time and called me back once he was on his way to my house. I appreciated those communication skills right away. In discussing the work to be done, Tom listened to my concerns about not out-pricing the neighborhood and provided suggestions accordingly. He had an estimate back to me by 4/12. It was very reasonable and included links to pictures of suggested materials. Much more information than I had gotten in the previous three estimates on the work. I also felt comfortable with him and liked the fact that he was the only one that would be in my house - no subs. We asked him to do the job and I spent the next week or so looking at materials and emailing Tom with questions. Every email was answered promptly. Again ... impressive communication skills ! Tom started the master bath job on 4/27, estimated that it would take him a week and a half to finish, and finished in exactly that amount of time. He is extremely neat and I never noticed any kind of disturbance to any other areas of my house. In fact, we were so pleased with his work that we asked him to do the hall bath when he finished the master. He ordered the materials and began the hall bath on 5/11, finishing that up in a week and a half also. So that quick we had two clean, updated bathrooms ... and we had really been dreading getting the work done ... with Tom it was truly painless. I can't say enough about Tom ... he does beautiful work, communicates well, is prompt and trustworthy, and is just a great person to know ! You can't go wrong hiring him !!
Description of Work: Update two 1980's bathrooms - master bath and hall bath: - removed and replaced fiberglass tub/shower unit - removed and replaced vinyl floor - removed and replaced vanity top (master is one bowl sink, hall is two bowl sink) - removed and replaced toilet - removed and replaced exhaust fan - removed and replaced tub and shower fixtures, sink faucets - removed and replaced vanity light fixture - removed and replaced vanity mirrors - removed and replaced towel bars, toilet paper holder - stripped wallpaper from walls, sanded, and prepared them for painting

He was prompt and very pleasant. He provided some very good ideas for the project. I would certainly recommend him to someone that needs a bathroom remodel. The only reason I went with someone else was only because I also needed other work done (outside of the bathroom, like masonry work) that he did not do. I felt bad that I didn't give him the business because I really liked him and I certainly will consider him in the future and have already recommended him elsewhere. ($7,100.00)

In the end, the funding fell through for our remodel, but as soon as we are able I will all call Tom back. He was very friendly and a great guy to work with. I do not have one bad impression.
Description of Work: I contacted Tom for a partial remodel for our master bath. He was prompt with a return call, worked out a time to come and give the estimate. He called before he arrived (and was even nice to my kids). The estimate was excellent. He does the work himself and cleans up after himself. He is good to follow up. He was also excellent to work with and understanding when things in life came up that had to alter our plans.

This is the second time we have used Tom's services and we are even more impressed than we were the first time (if that's possible). He really had to be creative to successfully install the shower enclosure around an existing window. He did a beautiful job with that, adding exterior vinyl trim around the inside of the window to finish it off and waterproof it. In order to run the plumbing for the washing machine to the utility room, he had to literally snake his way around in the crawl space to access the area. That turned out great, with an outlet and a washing machine hook-up in the utility room (where the dryer has always been). He replaced the existing sink in the half bath with a full vanity and tiled the existing carpeted floor with tiles laid on the diagonal. He also installed a GFI outlet in the bathroom. The finished product is truly a masterpiece, as you can see by the before and after pictures.
Description of Work: Tom converted a half bath that consisted of an old sink, commode, and washing machine into a full bath with an enclosed shower. He removed an existing sink and installed a new vanity and sink, and tiled the entire floor. He ran the necessary piping and electric hook-ups to the utility room so that the washing machine could be installed there.

Because of concerns that an elderly person who uses the restroom might fall if the conventional bathtub remained, we sought out estimates from several companies to install a walk-in shower. Tom's estimate was the most reasonable, but that is not the reason he was chosen. He was able to complete the entire job without any subs due to his knowledge of plumbing and electric. He has been doing this kind of work for over 20 years and impressed us in knowing his trade well. After our initial meeting, he researched various options for us, e-mailed us with links to different items, and drew up a contract based upon our choices. He was extremely cooperative in adhering to our timeline and began the work within days. Each evening before leaving, he cleaned up completely and expressed constant concern for not being in the way. He is a perfectionist as can be seen by his work. We gave him a key to the house so he could come and go when we were not there and we had no misgivings about doing so. We were so impressed with his work and professionalism that we have already hired him to do a second renovation for us.
Description of Work: Tom removed an existing fiberglass tub and replaced it with a shower stall with two seats and newly-tiled walls, and replaced the vinyl floor with tile that matched the shower walls. He installed 2 grab bars, the shower doors, and a new adjustable shower head.
