Prior to starting the job, Bill took time to review expectations & made sure we were on the same page. Price was also very reasonable -- and was worth every penny. Nice crew, too. Amazing! I spoke with Rick by phone after I found Wall King's listing and reviews on Angie's List. He came to our home to discuss what we were looking for, took measurements, and contacted me within a few days with an estimate. When I said I wanted to move forward, he made arrangements for Bill Fenk, the owner, to look over the plan with me. We discussed some additional options and soon I received a revised estimate. I was impressed by Wall King's responsiveness and the fact that they only do retaining walls and paver walkways. Bill and I discussed a start date and he told me to expect work to be done in May. Thinking we were talking about mid-to late May, I was pleasantly surprised when Bill asked if it was okay for work to start on April 28 or 29. On Friday morning, April 29, I met with Bill at 7:15 a.m, met his crew, and reviewed the plan. His crew is awesome. When I arrived home from work later in the day, the excavation for the side wall was gone. My old sidewalk was gone as well, and all the soil they dug up had been hauled away. Their machines stayed in my yard for the weekend and they told me they would return early Monday morning to continue. Monday morning, work began early and continued until after 5 p.m. By then I had the side wall and the sidewalk mostly completed. On Tuesday, they had backfilled the side wall and smoothed out my whole side yard. Then they built the front wall and new cast concrete steps. Wednesday, they finished the curved upper portion of the front wall, and completed the sidewalk up to the steps. Then they filled, graded, and added topsoil to the yard, re-seeded the lawn, and then filled in the new parking area with gravel. They cleaned up everything and restored the portion of my neighbor's yard disrupted by the wall excavation. These men worked nonstop each day from arrival to departure. The job was a big one and they did it in three and a half days! They were friendly and work very well together. Bill assigns his crew to the job until it is finished. Not only did my wife and I get a beautiful, well built retaining wall, new sidewalk, and fantastic new steps, but we got our yard graded and landscaped. As I looked at their progress, I found that every time I thought to myself it would be great if they did something, within a few minutes someone was working on it.. I kept expecting to find Jason Cameron and a Yard Crashers crew somewhere. Our neighbors keep stopping by to see the work. I was impressed that Bill stayed in touch with me throughout the job even though my wife and I had no issues or concerns. The cost may seem high, but I believe for the amount and quality of work done it was worth every penny. Bill and Rick, amazing job getting my business. I would hire you again in a heartbeat. Bob, Neil, Miguel, and Nick: you are truly excellent at what you do and I am almost sorry you're done because of how much I enjoyed watching you work. Thank you, Wall King! IT WAS TERRIBLE. Rick was very rude and disrespectful. He criticized everything, my landscaping, the first company that did the wall, everything. He kept telling me how he didn't want his crew to do jobs by hand so he refused to give me an estimate for the second part of the quote I wanted unless I ripped out half of my yard in order to get the equipment that they used for the job. He said it would be a waste of his time if he could not use the machinery to do the work. He kept pushing me to get the other wall on the other side of the driveway done. There was nothing wrong with this wall, but he kept insisting that I get it done along with the other wall and how it was going to fall and the company that put it up originally did not do the job correctly. I told him I was there when they put up the wall and I took pictures of the progress and he kept saying I was lying and to not "bs" him (He said the actual words though) he said this multiple times every time I said I'd recorded something or took pictures or anytime I disagreed with anything he was saying I was lying or "bsing" him. He also told me that they were not a brick laying company, or a concrete company, or a landscaping company, but a wall company, he said this several times, which I didn't understand why he was saying that because we weren't talking about any of those things. He constantly criticized my landscaping, he was obsessed with my landscaping for some reason. He told me for them to do one of the walls I would have to dig up my plants and throw them away. I kept telling him that if we had to dig them up I could just replant them elsewhere and he kept insisting that I just throw them away. He grabbed one of my bulbs and said this is just a $7 plant you can buy another one. I spent good money on everything in my yard and told him I wasn't throwing anything away, when I said this he looked at me like I was crazy. At one point he told me that my ornamental bush had only been in the ground a couple years, when I told him it been there over 5 years he proceeded to tell me I was lying and attempted to grab the bush out of the ground, tugging and pulling on it, and said look at how loose it is this has only been in the ground for a couple years. Towards the end of the conversation he said he usually only works on homes in the same area of the business which is about 40 minutes away from us, so I didn't understand why he came to give an estimate if he didn't do business there.

These guys were professional, responsive, and fast. Timely response to all emails, and ensured it would be done right - including contacting the surveyor directly to make sure the property lines were right. The even unclogged my driveway drain at the end of their work -- and they weren't the ones who clogged it in the first place. Oh, and they brought the work in under budget. I'd highly recommend them.

Bill from Wall King was a pleasure to work with. He was friendly, efficient, and accommodating at all stages of the project. We received an estimate quickly, and the final cost was within the estimate. He worked with us to design our new wall, clearly expressing the tradeoffs with different decisions and working with us to design a good solution. For example, we had a gas line that was potentially in the way. He said that we could have the gas line moved, but we could also build a tier into the wall to accommodate its current location. We chose the tier, which not only looks nice, but also saved us at least a thousand dollars. The wall was put up quickly and efficiently. It is at least 100 feet long, with different tiers, and other work (we had a new stone walkway and set of steps put in), and it was all done within a week. My neighbors (old business men from the offices across the street) commented on how amazed they were with how quickly the work was done. (They also said it looks "great!"). The finished wall looks incredibly nice. The quality of work and its final appearance exceeded our expectations. We have received a number of compliments from people in the neighborhood about how nice it looks. We won't need to replace this wall for a long time, so I, unfortunately, won't get the chance to work with Bill again soon. But, I would highly recommend him and the people at Wall King. It was clear to me that Bill takes pride in his work and wants his customers to be happy with the end result. We were extremely happy with our experience.

Fantastic from start to finish. Bill Fenk, the owner, is honest and straight forward. The price was competitive, and the final price was spot-on the same as what the original quote was. No surprises along the way. He and his crew are very polite, and worked incredibly hard. They completed the job, in full, in only 3 business days. There were a few spots that I didn't like what they'd done, and they immediatley changed them so I was satisfied. Another thing I liked is that they do one job at a time, no bouncing around between multiple jobsites at once. That means that their full attention is on your job while it's being done, and Bill is on-site the whole time. No subcontractors or anything either, it's all Wall King employees. Do yourself a favor and hire this company.

If you're looking for any sort of patio or retaining wall - do yourself a favor and hire Wall King. These guys were absolutely awesome! If you want more details, continue reading. I contacted them late last summer as I first got the idea to complete this project, but wasn't sure what all entailed. I chose Wall King because of the meticulous detail they put into planning the backyard wall and patio. The level of detail and care they put into the plan was very impressive. I agreed in late fall to go through with the plan in the fall with the idea they'd start this spring and that's exactly what happened. The communication was great and they let me know ahead of time when they could put me in their schedule, once the spring weather calmed down. The week before they started, they came out to go over the project again, which was nice. Once they started the project, it was discovered the drainage system for my downspouts was basically nonexistent (some lines going uphill to nowhere, another just emptying into my neighbor's yard). That brought the project to a halt because I had to bring in a plumber to have all the downspouts correctly tied in and then drained properly. I felt horrible because that threw Wall King's schedule off a week or so while that problem was remedied. Wall King was great, though, and adjusted their schedule to accommodate for this major issue. When the plumbing issue was fixed, Wall King came back and finished the project. The wall was built and then a concrete crew came in to pour the patio and then Wall King came back to finish it all off. Once they were done, they leveled the side yard that had taken a beating from all the heavy machinery and then put down seed and straw. The wall and patio exceeded my expectations! Bill and his crew were awesome to work with and there was no nonsense or anything. These guys came in, kicked a$$ and got it done all while being pretty cool. They took a basically useless and troublesome space in my backyard and turned it into a huge asset. I can't imagine how much value this added to my house. I want to thank Bill and the guys for working with me, especially the unexpected delay to get the plumbing issue fixed. It was just an awesome, hassle-free experience.

Bill came out to look at our retaining wall and told me that I could save a HUGE amount of money by just having another company come and install some wall anchors, that I didn't really need to replace the wall or do a large amount of work to shore it up. He was very honest and I really appreciated his time and expertise and business ethics. If we need work done in the future, I'd certainly trust him to do it!

He is definitely the wall king. His crew came out with the right equipment and a solid crew and got what I thought would be a week job in one day. When our neighbor complained about their work effecting a french drain on their garage, the crew was back out the next day to appease our neighbors concerns and tore down and replaced a section of the wall without any hassle. Good guy, good work, good experience.

Bill and his crew were excellent and very professional. The aesthetics of the walls are fantastic. I would highly recommend them. All three walls completed in one day. Fantastic crew and results!

Bill and his crew were amazing. They were on-time, quick, and professional. Bill and his team seemed to want this work to showcase their talents rather than just to get the job done and move on to the next one like some companies would. Rather than just build a boring rectangular retaining wall, concrete sidewalk and stairs, Bill worked with us to turn the work into something with significantly more curb appear, and he did this at no extra cost. We've been getting large numbers of complements on the work from passers by.

Got job done in three days. the big challenge was on the one side of driveway had a handicap ramp in front of wall and had to excavate the dirt from behind the wall then pull down retaining then install new wall, went off without any problems, They showed up on time each day and cleaned up at the end of each day. The crew worked on the project just like they were working on their own homes. Thanks for the Great Job !!!!!!!!

Crew arrived at 7:30 am and was done by 3:30 they were quick and efficient. I love the wall and thought they did an excellent job.

They took two days to complete. They arrived early in the morning. I was able to talk to them before leaving for work and they were very attentive to all the detail. They explained exactly what kind of reinforcement they were installing. They also made sure that they would not damage the patio floor next to the wall. At the end of the job they made sure that my wife was completely happy with the wall going after different details of the wall such as the height in different parts. We were very happy with the results. The wall looks great, now our patio can be used again (we were not able to use it due to the fear that the retaining wall surrounding it would fall on us).

They simply did an amazing job. From start to finish. Extremely professional crew. The arrived to the site right after I left for work and were gone by the time I got home. They only way I knew they were actually there was the wall went from almost falling over to being beautifully laid back into the hillside. I had neighbors stop by for the next few days congratulating me on the wall like I had just won an award. I had estimates 3 times what Wall King charged. I am positive that I was able to find the best price for the best work and service. I would highly recommend Wall King and Phil's crew.

From start to finish, I can't say enough about Wall King. Bill Fenk was great to work with, and his crew was prompt, professional, courteous, and clean. Even my neighbors commented on how they kept the mess to a minimum and did a fantastic job. They kept me briefed on their progress and what to expect each day. They were flexible and made sure I was pleased with every aspect of the job. I'm a very satisfied customer!

Other contractors came and looked at the job and said it would have to be done by hand over many days and their estimates were therefore very high. Wall King came and looked at the tight space but felt they could do the job and the estimate was very good. They got their equipment through a 7 foot space and got the job done in two days. The wall looks good and the grass that was planted came up quickly. I am very please with the job and would be happy to use them again if the need arises.

I had to call them back after a week because we never received the estimate, or heard anything from them. After calling them received an estimate for two retaining walls about four feet high and six feet long,and one retaining wall that was two feet high and seven feet long. The estimate was close to 10,0000 and that was using block that was all ready purchased. I think they only want really big jobs, over 20 grand or so. We said that was fine, when could they start, he said that they were just shy of three months out.....he never told me that from the get go, or I would not have wasted his time or my time...I think some of these reviews are a bit fishy. We will just do the work ourselves, half of it is all ready finished....just saved myself well over 10 grand.

Came in less than quoted and finished one week earlier than promised. Prompt, professional crew, skilled craftsmanship, and a pleasure to work with. Explained the work as it progressed and offered expertise as needed.

The entire process was amazing. From the first meeting to discuss plans and pricing to the final stone being set, Bill and his staff were complete professionals. Bill is very knowledgeable and provided wonderful suggestions for what we could do with my back yard area. The full job took only 3 days to complete. This was no easy job either as my house is very close to neighboring houses and there is a bit of an incline to access my back yard. I really like the fact that even as the owner Bill not only worked on the job himself but called nightly to see if I was pleased with the work as it was progressing. I would contact Bill and Wall King again in a heartbeat and have recommended him to all of my friends and co-workers. If you need this type of work done, do yourself a favor and give them a call, you will not be disappointed!

We are so very pleased with Wall King! From the very first call for the estimate to the completion of the work. We had our driveway widened, a new Versa lok wall installed as well as very unique steps, new concrete driveway and walkway. Bill is very professional and very good at what he does. His suggestions are worth their weight in gold. We had to make some adjustments along the way and Bill's ideas/changes were fantastic. All his employees were considerate and also very good at their job. They treat the job as if it was their own and great attention to detail. Bill is very fair on pricing- you get what you pay for and with Wall King you get top notch!
