 + -1 moreWe have owned this house for four years, and rarely use the fireplace. We decided to have the chimney inspected and cleaned so we could use it this winter. Technician came out two days after we called as he promised. Came exactly on time when he said he would. He was very professional and left the place very clean. He pointed out debris left in the masonry chimney that should not have been there. Suggested cap over unused stack, but since I am a DIY type person he gave me tips on how to do it and did not try to over sell his services. I appreciated that. Was impressed overall. BTW he does have the tall black hat.

 + -1 moreAll went well. He was professional, timely and knowledgeable. We will have him out again for the morter work and for furture yearly cleanings.
Description of Work: As we needed to be at work, we requested that he call us half an hour before arrival so we could meet him at the house. No problems. He called and arrived just a few minutes after we did. I was charmed by his traditional, old fashioned black top hat. He inspected the dryer vent and advised us that we needed to replace the vent cover as the plastic had aged and was no longer flexible. We had informed him during the appointment call that we needed caps on the chimney. Since we and he didn't know the size required, he showed up with all the common sizes he had in stock. It turned out that he had the sizes we needed so he installed them. One of the things he noticed was that there were two pipes coming out of the chimney. One went to the fireplace. He traced the other to a little door behind the furnace in the basement. Prior to this, we had water in our basement from that little door. Since he capped that pipe, the basement is now dry. He did, however, point out that we had a mold problem on the wall below the little door that would need to be adressed. He inspected and cleaned the chimney and declared our fireplace safe to use. He did remove his top hat when he folded himself up to crawl into the fireplace and inspect. While he cleaned, he had cloths covering the floors and he vacuumed when he finished so there was no mess for me to clean up. Yippee!!! While he was up on the roof, he checked the chimney masonry. He discovered that the top three rows of bricks needed to be re-mortered. That was pretty obvious as chunks of morter were falling out onto he roof as his fingers were feeling the morter. He said this was not harmful to our use of the fireplace. He couldn't do the work then because he was booked up. He gave us an estimate for the extra work. We were worried about our budget right then, so he'll call us and come back in January or February to do that work. He did, however, whip out a chart of masonary colors to match what was already up there.

He explained exactly what he was going to do and was neat and careful about covering the adjacent indoor area. The service was promptly performed, and he discussed the condition of the pipe and explained some issues (such as the rust on the exterior of the pipe: causes and pros and cons of possible alleviations). He was willing to answer questions. I was entirely satisfied and would expect to use his services in the future.

 + -1 moreHe did a very good job and explained things to me. He told me there was some crystalizing going on in my chimney and it was the best job I have ever had done on my chimney. I will use them again in the future. He cleaned it very well and looked spotless. It just seemed more thorough than other people who have done it and I will use them again in the future.

He cleaned the chimney and removed ashes from the fireplace.  + 1 moreThey did the work on a Saturday. It took about a week for them to contact me after I first called them because it was the busy time of the season. They did the work 2 or 3 weeks after I talked to him. In the summertime I would probably have been able to get them out the next day. I was very happy and they came on time.
Description of Work: I used Justin Thyme Chimney Sweeps to reline my chimney. They put a stainless steel liner in the chimney. They had to get a chimney cap built because I have an older home and a standard chimney cap wouldn't fit so they had to get a handmade one for it. They cleaned the chimney before they did the work.

 + -1 moreJack Savin was very professional and thorough. In addition to the cleaning of the chimney and fireplace, he did an overall inspection, including going on the roof. He recommended installation of a rooftop damper and removing the old damper in the fireplace due to inadequate closing of the current damper, and improper dimensions/height of exhaust pipes at the top of the chimney. He was very helpful and thorough in his explanations, which he did at length since it was kind of complicated for us to understand. He put a big work carpet in the living area around the fireplace so that the wood floor would be protected. He gave us an estimate of the recommended work to be done as well on the spot. I would definitely recommend him.

 + -1 moreJustin swept and expected our wood stove flue on 8/06/10. The flue had not been professionally swept for many years, even though we use the stove extensively. He was clean, prompt and very knowledgeable. He pointed out several areas of concern and educated me on each option for repairs and pricing. He later called me with the exact price. He arrived at the agreed time and made the necessary repairs promptly and professionally. There was no hidden costs. My stove is now safe and ready for use.
Description of Work: Justin performed the initial flue sweeping and inspection in a very professional manner at reasonable cost of $105. He discovered the stove elbow and pipe had quite a bit of deterioration, which he pointed out to me and I concurred. He never pressured me into anything. He returned and replaced the elbow and pipe promptly.

The price was right but more importantly we felt that we could have confidence in their work. They were thorough in the inspection - found 3 dead squirrels in the chimney - eeewwww. Cleaned the chimney, pointed out areas of past repair, areas to be watchful of for maintenance or future repair, told us the total condition and how to best use the fireplace. I felt that he should have started on the top so that he could have examined all the parts of my chimney thoroughly. Because of that I will most likely not use them again.
