They come out really fast. He comes right over when I have a concern, and he always makes sure everything in my house is promperly installed and wired so my house is safe.
Description of Work: They did some rewiring. They actually rewired a water fall for me. They repaired a few electric circuts, and rewired a few things for yard lighting. One time I had a light or wire burning in the ceiling and they fixed it right away.

The new electrical line went from the back of my garage, above my drop ceiling in my basement and out through the laundry room wall to the back yard (but you'd never know it, you can barely see the line). The GCFI was put right on the outside wall to hide the holes, which worked out great. The line was buried to the depth defined in the city code. The twist lock plug for the pump was installed on a 4x4 about 2' high next to the pump for ease of access and both outlets were covered in rain-proof plastic housing. The grass was then put back on top of the hole they dug to make is look almost like they weren't there, which was nice of them (they could have just dug it out and left the dirt there, like other contractors have done). They also found a possible danger spot where an old line was used, and fixed that up a bit while they were in there, so I appreciated that. They know their stuff and have done this many times, so I was comfortable that they knew what they were doing. Rich showed up on time with Jim coming to lend a hand a bit later, they did what they said they would do and for the price they said they said they would do it. The only reason I gave them a B on price is they were a bit more expensive ($100 - $150 more) than other contractors I contacted, but based on what they did verse what other contractors said they would do, I was more comfortable with their plan of attack and doing it right the first time was worth the extra money. So you could probably get it done a bit cheaper, but in the end I feel comfortable with my decision. There are coupons on Angie's List that I didn't know about until they were almost done with the work but they honored it and gave me the discount. Overall I was very satisfied with the work and would use them again in the future.
Description of Work: They installed an outside underground electrical line to an above-ground swimming pool pump with an added GCFI outlet near the deck for use with radios, etc. near the pool for safety.

I was in need of having electrical work completed for a refinancing, the initial inspection found two area's that had to be resolved for the closure: Some outlets near the kitchen sink that were not GFCI units. In addition the outlets near the bathroom sink was a 3-prong unit but not GFCI. So I needed to get the work completed correctly and quickly so I could close on the refinancing. I contacted them from work, my mother is in the house during the day, but they had no issue providing me a full estimate over the phone and accepting payment that way either. Rich was extremely courteous with my mother which is another plus to me. Rich completed the work as estimated and I was able to submit the paper work for closing. I will most definitely use J. B. Electric again and strongly recommend them.
Description of Work: Rich arrived late morning on Thurs, 5/10/12, provided a detailed estimate of the cost and work that would be performed, said that he would be able to complete the work that day and I gave him the okay to begin the work. He installed a GFCI duplex outlet in the kitchen and eliminated the strip outlet that was there. He also installed a GFCI protected duplex outlet into our tile wall in our bathroom and disconnected the outlets in the lights. Rich completed the job by late afternoon and all was working perfectly when he left.

Jim (JB) the owner came out to prepare an estimate and spent about an hour of his time (free) to assess what I wanted to have done. He gave me excellent ideas for type, location, and direction of outdoor lights I needed for the activities I was concerned about. For instance, a motion-sensor light so that the light would come on automatically when I took out garbage from either the front door or basement door, but an override switch so that we could enjoy our backyard fire pit without the light blasting us in the eyes. He also spent a lot of time suggesting the best placement for, and type of, bathroom fan for our needs. Very knowledgeable, helpful, and understanding of individual homeowner's needs. He submitted an estimate about one day after the site visit. Jim and his son Rich arrived on time first thing in the morning and got right to work. With the typical older home, wiring is not as simple as newer homes. They worked through any problems that came up and maintained very pleasant, upbeat attitude the whole time they worked through routine work and (I'm guessing) pain-in-the-butt work. This was important, as they had to be all over the house, inside and out, with the various tasks they were doing. They worked nonstop, except for sharing lunch with my son and me for about 15-20 minutes, from 8:30 until 5 p.m. each of two days they were here. They also arranged for the required inspection when they completed the circuit panel conversion. Finally, on their way out after they finished the jobs at 5:30 pm, they noticed a dangerous situation with outside utility wires being rubbed away by overhanging trees. This could have caused a fire, as some of the tree wood showed singe marks, and a potential shock hazard as the insulation wore away. They gave me the correct number of the power company to call, and Duquesne Light came out shortly thereafter to fix the line. I was away from my home when Duquesne came. When I got home, around 10:30 p.m., only half of my lights worked in the house. Not realizing that this was Duquesne's problem (they had tried to jerry-rig the worn-out power line, but it had broken halfway, and half of the power circuits to the home were not working), I called JB right then to tell him of the problem. Even though I was calling him at 10:30 p.m. after a long day working at my home, he was happy to help. He explained that it sounded like Duquesne hadn't completely fixed the incoming power line. So I called Duquesne back, and JB was right. The repair man knew that the line was still broken. So at midnight, Duquesne came to the rescue and repaired the tree-worn line! In summary, JB and Rich were knowledgeable, friendly, hardworking, and professional, and they even saved us from a very dangerous situation of a fire hazard or shock. And despite some friendly political discussion during lunch, I felt that these guys are gems in the electrician field!
Description of Work: Installed a new bathroom exhaust fan where none had previously existed. This included running exhaust ductwork through our attic roof. Installed new switch in bathroom with extra outlets. Installed two new outlets: one indoors and one outdoors. Installed two new outdoor light fixtures where none had existed. Repaired one nonfunctioning outlet in kitchen. Rewired microwave to different circuit so that it would not blow fuses. Converted entire fuse box panel to switches.

I contacted this company after reading other reviews for it on Angies List, and I now understand why they had received such good ratings! They called me within 2 days after my email and scheduled an appointment for within a couple of days, since I had indicated it was not anything urgent. Upon arrival I walked the technician through all of the work I wanted done, and he gave a very reasonable estimate, and said he could compete the work right then. He worked non- stop for almost 5 hours. Because he did end up doing a couple more things than I had originally called him for, the final cost was a little more than the initial estimate, which I expected, but still far less than I had anticipated. The total of $390.00 for everything he did I believe was very fair. He was very friendly and professional, and certainly seemed to be very competent. He explained everything as he was doing it. He did not try to sell me anything I didn't really need, and in fact convinced me not to replace a ceiling light in the basement which I thought needed to be replaced, as he found it to be just fine. I felt very comfortable with the technician in my home, and he was even very friendly to my cats :-). I would definitely use this company again and would recommend it to others!
Description of Work: J.B. Electric replaced 2 outside outlets with proper GFI outlets and covers, replaced a 3rd outlet on my porch with a GFI, replaced another outlet in my laundry room with a GFI, installed a ceiling fan in a bedroom, and did an overall inspection of my breaker box. This revealed that some of the breakers were not the correct ones. While the technician indicated it was not an immediate safety problem, he did recommend that they be replaced, and he took care of that as well. He also found that one of the outlets in my office was not properly installed or grounded inside of the paneling. He took the time to cut out a new opening for a proper outlet and installed that as well.

This was the best experience I have ever had with any contractor from Angie's list or otherwise. Went above and beyond expectations, and when I told Jim about a light for the laundry room in the basement that he had forgot to include in his estimate, he put it in at no additional charge. His estimate was right on the mark and I couldn't be happier with the work done.
Description of Work: Jim and his son were the best to work with. Everything about their work is top notch. They installed a ceiling fan, flourescent lighting in the basement, added GFI outlets in the kitchen and basement, added a new circuit line to office to handle the load. and corrected alot of sloppy work that had been done in the past. Our house is over 100 years old and it did provide some challenges, but Jim was able to handle it all and not charge extra.

The ground was trenched and then the wiring was installed through conduit. A circuit breaker was installed in my breaker box in my basement and the wiring attached. The conduit piping passed through the house and garage walls above ground for further protection from water infiltration. The trench was backfilled and then a thorough cleanup was preformed. Total time was about six hours. J.B. Electric did my job within 8 days of my first emailing them for an estimate.
Description of Work: I asked J.B. Electric Company to electrify my garage. The garage is a stand alone garage about forty feet from my house. They did this by trenching between my house and my garage. The ground is loaded with tree roots so the digging was hard. I wanted the garage electrified so I could install a garage door opener. Besides the outlet for the door opener, I asked them to install another outlet on the interior wall of the garage.

I found them on Angie's List. The gentleman's name was James Boden and it was a father and son team. I was very pleased with their work. He first came out to the house and gave me an estimate for the work. He and his son came back within a few days as scheduled. They were prompt and professional. They were very concerned about digging up the plants while replacing the ground lights in the garden. I told them that there wasn't anything there that was near and dear to me but they were very careful to ensure that they only dug up what was necessary. They didn't make a mess of the whole garden. I think that they dug up a couple of plants and put them back in for me.

It is a dad and son that work together. I've had them do work before. They do great work. They clean up. They explain why they are doing things. They talk about decisions we need about running the wires. I have a 1930's house and it is difficult to run wires through the exterior walls. They came on time. I'll call them again next year when I have the money to do something else.

Jim Boden is the electrician and he was just a wonderful guy. It’s a wonderful company. He is extremely personable and he does like to talk. He always says that the price get more because I spend longer talking to you; so he sets the price first and tells you what it would be and it might take way longer. You think he isn’t making much per hour but he doesn’t care. He is really good and comes when he says he is going to come and he finishes on time. I’ve had him many times over a period of 3 to 4 years.

We originally thought we needed to upgrade our service, but Mr Boden proposed a less expensive solution to our problem (two kitchen outlets on one 15 amp circuit.) He communicated well throughout the process of figuring out exactly what we wanted to do and during the day as the work progressed. He successfully solved a problem of finding pipes in the wall where not expected without having to cut a second hole in the wall. He did a neat job and cleaned up thoroughly when finished.
Description of Work: Mr Boden and his son addressed a number of issues, including installing new outlets, taking an outlet off of a light switch, and separating the kitchen outlets onto different circuits.

What a great experience! I called yesterday- heard back from Jim Boden in the evening- He was very attentive, polite and picked up on my need to want to get this done quickly. His son Rich came first thing the next morning! Rich Boden, Jim's son, was a total professional and a true gentleman. I was so impressed with him. I had purchased an over the range microwave that had a different location for the bracket from the previous microwave. The outlet- the kind that sticks out- had to be moved. The microwave installers left me with an open gap to the outside from the vent and the task of finding an electrician before they could install. He moved the outlet horizontally so that I could still plug in the lights that I had over the sink- and the microwave would still be able to be installed. He offered to put the microwave in for me- but given that I had already paid for the installation- I declined. I had problems with the lghts over the sink and had purchased a new set. He recommended that I keep what I have- which saved me a lot of money and hassle; he re- attached them and made it so that I could easily replace the bulbs- which I was not able to do before. He explained simple things I did not know- like don't handle the bulb with my bare hands...OK! I didn't know that! I really liked Rich alot- a genuinely good person- and an honest true professional who is an expert in his trade. Clearly his Dad Jim is the same and taught his son well. I would highly recommend!

Jim responded the next day after I contacted him via Angie's List. He was very friendly and straight with us about what we needed and what we didn't when he came to give us our estimate. We liked that about him, plus the glowing reviews on AL helped us to make our decison. He was able to schedule us quickly and he arrived right on time at 8:30am on the Big Day. He and his son Rich did all the work. They separated and ran new circuits in the kitchen (2 countertop, fridge, and microwave), which were previously all wired together. Up until this, every time we tried running more than one thing the breaker would trip. They also expanded one outlet into a sink light switch and a double GFCI plug and added another circuit for a disposal. They added two new circuits and outlets in the dining room. They also ran new circuits for two previously ungrounded plugs in the basement - one went to our TV and the other to our gas dryer. They also addressed one suspicious junction box and moved it so it was more accessible (that was in the contract), but they also cleaned up a lot of other "messy" wiring and open junction boxes as they discovered them throughout the day at no extra charge. They put in a full day's work and started packing up around 6pm. They made sure they pointed out additional issues that needed to be solved at some point in the near future before they left, and explained why it was wrong. Jim and Rich were exceptionally friendly and respectful, and they do great work. I know if the remaining issues are not something we can do on our own, we would not hesitate to call J.B. Electric in the future.

First let me say that this was a horrible job, and 3 different electricians looked at it and never followed up with an estimate because it was so difficult. It's a 100 year old flatroof row house with very few options for installing a ceiling fan. Jim had to run wiring up from the basement through a jigsaw puzzle of narrow walls and ceiling spaces. He was a tropper from start to finish, and really, just the nicest guy I've ever worked with (his son and co-worker even took my dog out for a bathroom break while i was gond because he said he just looked like he needed one!) Can't say enough about these guys, and i feel so lucky to have finally found an electrician i can count on. he was so very responsive and just all around helpful.
