Chismar Brick Cleaning & Pointing

He arrived for the estimate and repair exactly at the time he promised, was fair and honest (even told us that one repair was not necessary). He was also very friendly and his prices were reasonable (he was even willing to do the job after he realized it was just a small repair.) Would definitely use him again and highly recommend him.

They were good and did a great job. They were here when they said that they would be here and cleaned up all the mess after they finished the job. We have a high roof but they did not mind going up on that roof. The price was reasonable; they were the best and cheapest.

Michael, his son, and their crew did outstanding work on our old house. They had a challenging job--our house is old and the mortar was in bad shape. But they worked hard during some of the most mercurial weather I've ever seen in March/April in Pittsburgh. Not only did they do an excellent job on our house, but they kept in contact with us throughout the process and were friendly and professional from start to finish. In addition, they found problems with our gutters and they even fixed some of those problems on their own. When do you find people who will help you like that? I was so impressed with them--they're just wonderful people and fantastic artisans with a strong, dedicated work ethic. They came to our house when they said they would and they worked long hours each day. Their company's slogan (which I love and have adopted myself) is "Make it a good day" and they did, indeed, do that for us. I recommend them highly to anyone who needs any type of masonry work.

From the first phone call, I was impressed with Chismar Brick Cleaning and Pointing. Mike returned my call promptly and was friendly and helpful. He came over the very next day to assess the situation and quickly had an estimate for me. He understood that I was concerned about it being a hazardous situation, and wanted to help me as soon as possible. As soon as he had an opening in his schedule, and the weather cooperated, he was over with his crew. The job went smoothly and efficiently, and the stairs look better than they ever have. Chismark did a beautiful job, and left the area clean and neat afterwards. I was very pleased with Mike Chismark and his crew, and would not hesitate to call them again.

They were very responsive, came quickly and gave us an estimate. We had to wait for the weather to allow them to go on the roof, but the work was done within 10 days. There were 3 men on the job and all 3 were polite, careful and worked hard. They cleaned everything up when they were finished.

From the time of the bid to project start date took a bit of time due to the holidays and weather. A snowy morning got the guys off to a late start but once they arrived they worked the remainder of the day Wednesday, all day Thursday and Friday stripping the paint from the stone, once that tedious task was complete Mike Sr., Mike Jr. and Chuck set about grinding out some type of putty (or something close to it) that the aforementioned brainiack put between the stone. Upon grinding out the "putty" they repointed the fireplace and did a fantastic job of cleaning up before leaving. I would use Chismar Masonry again. Mike Sr., his son Mike Jr. and Chuck were very professional, and easy to work with and even though a quoted 2-day job turned into a 3-day job their bid remained the same.

I have had a leaking Roof/Chimney/Flashing since I moved into this house 7 years ago. The leaking has occured around both of my chimneys. I did a water test with a friend and seemingly diagnosed that water was coming in through small cracks in both of my river rock chimneys. After I received 3 or 4 estimates I went with Chismar based on price and my confidence in their ability to do the work. I hired Chismar to point 50% of both chimneys where water was coming in and spot-point the remaining sections of the chimneys. Mike Sr. called me back within 4 hrs of my initial call. He and his son came to my house a few days later to do an assessment. I got a quote about 5 days later. I felt that the price was fair and that they would do a good job. Even though it was getting near the end of their season the Chismar men were able to schedule me in about 2 or 3 wks later. This was very appreciated. In addition, they pointed two river rock pilars that flank my driveway. It took them approx 3 days to do the work. I saw a few things that I thought needed additional attention and they were happy to comply. Even though it wasn't formally a part of the scope of work, the crew re-tared the area between the new pointing and the chimney flashing, on both chimney ... that was a classy move. When the work was done, some effervescence formed about the river rocks on the pilars. I called them to report this chalky residue and they quickly came the next day to remove this residue with an appropriate solution. I did call them one additional time to discuss small cracks in the chimney mortor and a few inconsistant color areas on the pilar mortor, but that call was never returned. Overall, I thought that their attitude, responsiveness and quality of work was very good. Sadly, when we got 3" of rain on 11/30 (or so), I got a small leak from the rear chimney. My sense is that this is a flashing or roof issue, but I'm not sure. The flashing and roof was not a part of the job Chismar was hired to perform. Sadly, I need to go up on the roof again to try to diagnois where the darn water is coming from ... It's a mystery. Mike, if you have any thoughts please contact me.

They were on time. They worked hard and did the job very well. The clean up was excellent.

Mike and his team did a great job. They were not the cheapest of the 3 contractors that bid on the project, and we had to wait several weeks for them to add us to their schedule, but it was worth it. I would highly recommend Mike and his team to others.

They showed up exact when they said they would, it took 3 months because they are so back up and the owner is on site at every job. Worth the wait! The complete the work in 3 days and you would never know they were there, keep in mind masons are by far traditionally the dirtiest trade. I would highly recommend Chismar to anyone!

Mike and Mike came out to our house and walked through all the work that needed to get done - they were very friendly and honest and told us what needed to be done and what did not. It took a while to get an estimate, but it turned out that they were dealing with a family tragedy. Despite that, they offered to come out and do the work as promised. Many companies would not touch the stone repair that needed to be done - several pieces had fallen off the house and many more were damaged. Mike Jr. took a piece to find out where he could purchase a match. After he determined that matcing stones did not exist, he combed through the yard and found all of the pieces that had fallen off. He repaired the broken peices and fit everything back together like a jigsaw puzzle. It looks great. Additionally, they replaced 2 lintels and did some spot repointing on the brick. The mortar was colored to match the existing structure. They finished the job on-time and cleaned everthing. The price was great and they work was done in a very professional manner. After the guys had cleaned up, I found a few spots on the brick that needed more mortar and Mike Jr. pulled his ladder and trowel back out to fix those spots as well.

Everything went well. They arrived on time and did excellent work. They were also very pleasant to speak to.

Mr. Chismar and his son Mike Jr are the most courteous and helpful people who I have ever had work on my 1940s house. Both are extremely knowledgeable about the work they do. They arrived on time each day and carried out all the work promised on the estimate, and also added extra sealing around the doorways, fixed my front steps, and still finished on time. The price was very reasonable compared with other estimates especially considering the extra work. The estimate was exactly the same as the final price. Chismar Brick Cleaning & Painting brought an expert knowledge to the repair of the unusual bricks used on my architect-built house. I will be using them again to replace a DIY close-off of an old doorway next year. In fact, the only disappointment is that they specialize in brick work and I can't have them remodel the kitchen!

Chismar returned my phone call and scheduled an appointment for an estimate in a prompt manner. At the estimate they noticed a small crack in the wall which I had overlooked. They sent me an estimate via email without delay. They were able to fit me in the schedule a couple weeks later. They pressure washed the porch, and repointed the porch; they matched the existing mortar perfectly. They were also supposed to install a lental, but upon further review they found the lental was just pushed back so it could not be seen. They repaired the lental and did not charge me for a new one. On the day of the clean up, I decided I wanted them to point the bottom of the right side porch because they did such an excellent job on the left side. They did the job willingly and without additional cost. They also cleaned everything – they hosed down my two cars, my garbage cans, cleaned my front window, wiped down the whole porch. It was extremely pleasing to see a company which still believes in excellent customer service and does not hesitate to go above and beyond their obligated task. I have already recommended them to my sister and would not hesitate to use them for any future jobs.

My 80 year-old house was badly in need of having the chimneys and other bricks repointed. I was very concerned about finding someone who would do a quality job since since some earlier repairs to our house's bricks (by previous owner) did not look very good. Based on a recommendation, I contacted Mr. Chismar. He quickly scheduled an appointment and provided me with a free estimate. He then rearranged his schedule so that he could perform the job quickly rather than having me wait until an upcoming, large job of his was complete. In addition, the work he performed on our house was spectacular; all of the brick work now appears as though it has just recently been layed. I plan to use Mr. Chismar's services again and would recommend him to friends in the strongest terms.

They did a wonderful job. They are the only ones I would use and I will absolutely use them again.

During the first visit, we discussed the condition of the bricks on entire house. Mike pointed out areas that needed to be addressed and what could be done at a later date. After we narrowed down the project to the back wall where bricks have started to bulge outward and the missing mortar around the door frame and windows, Mike emailed me a detailed estimate. After I accepted his bid, he came out for a second visit to explain and modify any points on the estimate. Once schedules and the weather permitted work began. Mike noticed a few other areas he wanted to correct, but this didn't alter my estimate. I plan on calling this company again to work on the rest of the areas of the house needing improvement.

Great experience. Mike returned our call promptly, came out and gave an estimate within a couple of days and scheduled the work within 2 weeks. Mike and his son were friendly and I felt comfortable with them immediately. The work looks AWESOME. They cleaned up all debris and got the job done rather quickly. When we bite the bullet and get the whole house repointed Chismar is who we will use, no doubt!

The job went very well. Mike Chismar promptly responded to my initial inquiry; the estimate was sent by e-mail a couple days later. He, his son and another crew member came the next week to complete the job. They arrived as scheduled, finished the job in a timely manner, and they did an excellent job cleaning up after the work was completed. The work looks good. I was amazed at how well the new mortar matched the original color.

Called this company twice in the last month and left messages requesting an estimate and mentioning that I found them on Angie's List. I never received a return call, although I left home and cell numbers. I literally gave them over a week to return each call. Very disappointed after reading so many positive reviews here.

Michael Chismar was very responsive and a pleasure to do business with him. Most of our contact was through E-Mail after his initial visit. His proposal, our acceptance and scheduling was all hadled on line and proved to be and excellent way to communicate.

Mike was referred by a roofer (also from Angie's List) who came to give me an estimate and noticed chimney deterioration probably causing the chronic leak in my attic. Mike gave me an estimate and kept me updated ongoing on when he could do the work. He coordinated his scheduling with the roofer who needed to set up staging on my slate roof. Work was done in very efficient manor and Mike followed up with information on findings from his repairs. Couldn't ask for a better experience.

They came in at a very competitive price compared to the other estimates I got. They did a great job and cleaned everything up. Our house is 100% better and we are very pleased with the job they did. We have recommended them to our neighbors.

They were accomodating to my schedule in needing the work to be done asap. The quality of the job was excellent. They took 2 days as planned. Very professional and courteous too. I would recommend his company to anyone needing a timely brick pointing job completed.
