Description of Work: Contracted to finish our basement. Seven weeks into a three week project, it was not completed to our satisfaction. We terminated our relationship and resolved the resulting financial differences through counsel. We have worked with, and continue to work with, other vendors to complete/correct.

Description of Work: I contacted this contrator on 6/26/2014 it is now July 9, 2014 I have not yet received a response. I do understand that this is a busy time of year and I am sure they are booked up but that does not excuse being unprofessional and rude. I would have appreciated even a quick message stating they were too busy or do not even do the work that I needed done. |It is called common courtesy to give someone a response whether it is what they want to hear or not.

Description of Work: My wife and I recently fixed a plaster ceiling in a 13 x 12 room and installed a drywall ceiling in another room roughly the same size (total size approx. 380 sq. ft.) ourselves; however, we wanted to hire a pro to do the finish work. We hired Matt and his crew to tape and mud the drywall, as well as the repaired plaster areas which required plugging 6 holes created for re-wiring the room and then to texture both ceilings with a knock-down texture. Matt responded to my initial phone call within 3 business days to set up a time to come by for an estimate within 2 days. He was punctual and courteous. Matt quoted us $850 for the entire job, which was reasonable. He estimated the job would require up to 3 days of labor. As the job was small and he was already on another larger job, Matt and I negotiated a 30 day timeframe for completion, as my wife and I had several other projects we could be working on in the meantime. In the end, Matt completed the project within 10 days of the quote and only took 2 back-to-back days of actual labor. Thus, he completed the project well ahead of the agreed-upon deadline and took one less day than estimated. Each day, Matt or his crew arrived on time and were professional. The end project looks great and we will absolutely hire Matt and his company again for future work. A+++

It is my pleasure to provide my highest possible recommendation for Matt McCune, Jessie McCune and everyone with 8 Point Construction. I had over a dozen various contractors on this job at one point or another and 8 Point was THE BEST by far! This exterior cladding project was very complex and required close coordination with architects, custom metal fabricators, scaffolding suppliers and MFG representatives for James Hardie and Nichiha building products. The exterior cladding system(s) utilize cutting edge, novel rain screen technologies and require very close attention to detail. 8 Point was very quick to grasp a full command of installing these complex systems. Matt & Jessie took the time to ensure that all 8 Point employees were fully trained and highly competent in every respect. Matt met every construction milestone in a timely, professional manner and within budget. He consistently monitored and directed the performance of all workers to ensure the highest quality work under VERY challenging and VERY detail oriented circumstances. Matt & Jessie always had a well reasoned plan to over come project obstacles in the most efficient manner possible. I would not hesitate to 8 Point Construction for ANY project.
Description of Work: Complete exterior remodel of 6000+ sq ft lt commercial building. Removal of prior siding, framing, sheeting, window installation, exterior wrap/flashing and installation of high end James Hardie & Nichiha cement fiber exterior cladding system; installation of custom metal flashing and trim material.

We were referred to Mr. McCune by a good friend for whom his company 8 Points Construction did quality work, and we were told that he was very responsive and responsible. So we gladly contacted Mr. McCune about two months ago asking whether he could meet us at a house we were purchasing to do an estimate for some updates to the master bathroom, a powder room, wall painting, removal of a sunroom, and to fix some minor aesthetic problems of the family room. Initially, he was very responsive and came to meet us on time to discuss the project. One of the things we stressed at that initial meeting with him was that it was important for the work to be completed before we moved into the house, which would be about two months after that meeting with him (not thrilled about the idea of doing work in the house with two little children and unpacked boxes all around). He said that this should not be a problem and said he would contact us with an estimate in about a week. We didn't hear from him in that period of time, so we had to contact him to follow-up, and he said he needed more time. And after several more days, he produced what appeared to be a pretty reasonable estimate, and we agreed to work with him. However, unfortunately, that was the beginning of an exercise in frustration. The most troubling aspect of our dealings with him was his lack of responsiveness. We don't think we can recall one time when we didn't have to contact him to get follow up, whether it was the estimate, trying to nail down a start date, or even just meeting him to finalize the project plans. It sometimes took a couple of attempts to get a hold of him. Also, we asked what supplies we would need to provide, and he never responded to that. The project start date was a moving target, and what began as anticipated completion the week before our move became uncertainty on his part about whether he would even be able to start the job before we moved in. We were supposed to have a meeting with him yesterday to discuss details of the project, but he had to reschedule that because of something that came up. We obviously understand that sometimes things don't go according to even the best laid plans, but it's still hard to see how what started as a pretty straightforward job proposal turned into this. Now we're in a situation where we need to find someone else on short notice (our moving date is only one and half weeks away), since he at this point was pretty clear there was no way he was going to be able to get this done on time, and he was planning to do most of the job after the move. We read all the reviews of the people who wrote in this site and were surprised by how all the people give him A on responsiveness. Maybe our experience was a unique experience? Anyway, based on what we have been going through, there is no way that we would recommend this company to anyone.
Description of Work: Provided an in-home estimate, but no other services were rendered.

Response from 8 Point Construction & Remodeling Inc
8 Point Construction was sorry to hear that this client was dissatisfied. This is an extremely busy time of year and all efforts are being made to satisfy all of the construction and customer service needs of our clients. In this case another job has had a number of setbacks due to client changes and add ons. It was explained to the (deleted member name) that the timeline would have to be pushed back and apologies were expressed. 8 Point was still willing to make efforts to have a portion of the work completed before they moved in but it was simply impossible to complete the entire job by then. The timeline had been discussed previously but no contract was signed by the client and no promises were made about a start or completion date. Again we do apologize for the inconvenience. Start to finish the work was completed by a professional group of workers. Matt has a great eye for the spatial picture. He was able to look over the area we needed work done in, and come up with a plan that used the space in a very workable way. It allowed for more space to be available thereby making the area much more comfortable and welcoming. Adding a bulkhead, as he did, will provide us the opportunity to display my wife's Aunts various plates, that she so loves. He listened to our suggestions and incorporated them as best he could, while explaing the why for's and why not's as to the possibility of being able to perform the suggested work. The crew is very professional, friendly and hardworking. We have 2 dogs and everyday the crew ALWAYS greeted the dogs in a very friendly manner and made the dogs welcome, never slighting the dogs in any way. That was very important for us, as our dogs are our kids. Outside of a few minor nicks and such, the verbalized plan came to life. The only things that I have found in need of touch up were a corner of a new flooring installed popped up, and one of the TV cable outlets will not allow us to use TV via that outlet. He has agreed to fix the problem when we have his crew perform another job for us in the near future. The corner of the flooring was corrected quickly after it was brougth to Matt's attention. We also had his crew install a new exterior door near the room just renovated, the storm door closes correctly now, after years of thestorm door not closing properly.
Description of Work: Totally gutted basement and remodeled for a full bathroom and bedroom for 91 y/o Aunt to live in and enjoy. New electric, plumbing, insulation, lighting, heating, flooring, drywall and painting. Work had to wait until we had terrible mold problem corrected. Overall, the work as listed above was completed without a hitch.

Horrible! I would not recommend this crew for any big projects, stick to hanging doors and painting! We had them remodel our kitchen and lay tile from the entry way through the house and their attention to detail and overall quality is lacking. - the 12"x24" porcelain tile is layed out of level from tile to tile. - they installed the kitchen cabinets were out of level noticable to the naked eye and only corrected once I confronted them. - their wiring skills are lacking. Look up into my basement rafters and entry into the fuse boxes and it looks like spaghetti. (the wiring for dummies book in your tool box did not build any confidence on my end guys!) - the fume hood they installed was not centered between the cabinets and the hole they ran the electrical through is showing. When I confronted them about issues like the cabinets being out of level they got aggressive and wanted me to pay to fix them?? Looking back I should have completed this project on my own but my time was limited and I did not want it to span more then a month or so. Everything I look into I find that it was half assed and not done correctly. I guess you get what you pay for! Cheap work is not good and good work is not cheap. My mistake, it will never happen again! Don't give these boys more then they can bite off, you will be disappointed.

Response from 8 Point Construction & Remodeling Inc
8 Point Construction & Remodeling does NOT recommend Ikea cabinets! Anyone who has ever put together a piece of Ikea furniture would certainly understand that assembling an entire kitchen worth of cabinets could easily justify a hefty upcharge. In this case, and in all cases, we make every effort to avoid upcharges and did not charge additional for the assembly. It was because of the poor design of the cabinets that there was any leveling issue. Most homes have floors that are not completely level and quality made cabinets allow a contractor to adjust accordingly. 8 Point was in contact regularly with the main contact, the wife, on this job very regularly and throughout the majority of the job things were extremely civil and the homeowner expressed no displeasure. On the last day of the job the secondary contact, the husband, expressed some concerns and all concerns were addressed appropriately. The "Wiring for Dummies" book mentioned is actually a code book for remodelers which is extremely common and appropriate in the trade.

We had water damage in the kitchen ceiling from a leak in the bathroom upstairs. Matt came within 24 hrs of our phone call and had an estimate for us the same day. The work was exceptional and done in a professional and timely manner. I had them eventually paint the entire kitchen and the work again was exceptional. I am going to have them remodel my bathroom and several other future projects. i would recommend 8 point Construction for any building and remodeling needs. This is truly a standout company.

Description of Work: Matt / 8-Point Construction replaced a ventilation pipe gasket that had deteriorated over the years on the roof of my townhouse.
