The member called Dec. 21, 2009 to replace his mail box. When we provided our pricing he declined to have us do the work. We never had an appointment. That is the last time we've heard from him; 5 1/2 years ago!

Description of Work: Mr. Joe Tarr arrived very promptly and completed the work requested efficiently and without fuss. I had asked for help in assembling a new tool chest, which arrived broken. It is now whole and beautiful. I could not be more pleased. The price was a bit more than I expected, but ultimately worth it since I had a useless piece of equipment until Mr. Tarr fixed it.

Description of Work: They were busy for the next 3 or 4 months and said that they do not look at the job to be done. Richard Lee called me to ask what had gone wrong and apologized for not following up. It turned out to be a misunderstanding, which could have been avoided, if we had discussed before.

We are frankly quite baffled by the member’s comments. First, the member is referencing a conversation that occurred over five months ago; this is the first time we have heard of her displeasure. We did leave a message asking to discuss her concerns, so far without response. Second, the member indicates we told her we were busy “for the next 3 or 4 months”. That is never the case. As a service that takes care of the small maintenance and repair items around the home or business, our clients do not wait more than a few days to have the work done. And finally like many of our clients, the member had a variety of jobs on her ‘to do” list. We explained that we work on a time and material basis. Estimates aren't effective in such situations; they add delays for clients anxious to get the work done. We often finish the work before others would have scheduled an estimate. We discuss the job and approximate time frames with the client, but only charge for time we actually are working. Estimates add charges to cover “the unexpected” often resulting in costs higher than necessary. We want to handle all of our clients’ “to-do” list items several times throughout the year. We know that if they don’t feel they’re getting their money’s worth, they won’t call us back or recommend us. It says a great deal that for over 10 years now, more than 60% of our business is from repeat and referred clients. The member acknowledged that our business approach was explained to her. We don’t deserve a “D” simply because she didn't agree with our business model. She called us; we explained how we work; she decided not to hire us. She never gave us a chance to show the value we provide to hundreds of satisfied clients each year. We don’t see what we did wrong or could have done differently; but again hope the member returns our call to discuss her concerns.

JOE ROWAN IS THE HANDYMAN THAT SERVICES THIS AREA [CHESTER COUNTY/DOWNINGTOWN] FOR THIS COMPANY. HE WAS RIGHT ON TIME, QUICK, EFFICIENT, VERY SOCIABLE, AND GOT THE WORK DONE. CLEANED-UP THE SITE BEFORE HE LEFT AND WAS ABLE TO ANSWER A COUPLE OF QUESTIONS ABOUT SMALLER/ODD JOBS THAT I COULD DO MYSELF AROUND THE HOUSE. PROVIDED SOME GOOD ADVICE FOR SOME OF THE ODD JOBS. THIS COMPANY SEEMS TO FEEL GOOD ABOUT COMPLETING WORK OTHER CONTRACTORS DON'T WANT BECAUSE THE OTHER COMPANIES DEEM IT TOO SMALL OR NOT WORTH IT. AND JOBS THAT MIGHT NOT BE APPROPRIATE FOR THE HOMEOWNER [AS WAS MY CASE BECAUSE I DIDN'T HAVE THE ALUMINUM PRESS EQUIPMENT AND IT WASN'T WORTH IT FOR ME TO BUY IT]. OVERALL, I WOULD USE THEM AGAIN FOR SOME OF THE TOO SMALL FOR CONTRACTORS/TOO BIG FOR ME TO DO MYSELF-TYPE JOBS.
