Haller installed a new air conditioning unit to replace a 25+ year old one that started to leak coolant repeatedly. Their price was very competitive. All was well at first, but we didn't know that our blower fan was insufficient to move the quantity of air that the new system needed moved. A week or so later, the blower fan motor burned out. Haller replaced it at about a 50% discount because when they inspected it, they hadn't noticed the problem. Their workers were always willing to explain what the problem was and the work they were doing to resolve it. We now have a service contract with Haller for our furnace maintenance as well.
Description of Work: A new air conditioning unit was installed. A few weeks later the blower fan was replaced.

As described above, it went well overall due to their integrity to make things worked as it should
Description of Work: Replace 25 year old furnace and air conditioner compressor with a 2 GEO-Thermal unit. Initially there were some problems with the the units working correctly. It was a complicated issue due to some cross talk between the units and their thermostats. It took about 6 weeks to get everything diagnosed and put in working order. Never were billed for any additional service calls needed to correct the problem and there were at least 5 service calls. In fact due to the problems with the units not initially functioning as promised,, we were given a check to cover our additional electrical costs we spent until the system was corrected.

Sam first arrived and estimated how much of a system we needed for our home. He was knowledgeable and very helpful in explaining all the options we had. He sent us our estimate in a timely fashion. This estimate was very good, we had a few others prior to this visit. The work was started shortly after we signed our contract. The men arrived on the designated date (Mike and Shawn) at the given time and began to work diligently for the next few days. There was a break for the weekend, and then began again on Monday. They did not disconnect our other system until they were sure the new system was up and running. They all worked very hard to disconnect our old system (they were joined by Russ) for this process. They cleaned up every day and did not leave on the last day until they walked thru with us and explained everything.
Description of Work: We had duct work installed and a new Amana heat punp installed. We also had our old hydrokinetic heating tank and controls removed. The tank was 800 gal. This was a very large job and the total time was 6 day's.

Great experience. Showed up on time, professional and clean. Their prices are fair and not over inflated like some large companies. I also had them do a full HVAC a year ago. They removed an old oil system and tank and installed a new Trane system at a great price. I will always use them.

Wife called company and scheduled an appointment. They gave her what she thought was an estimate of cost to be $99. It turned out that was the charge for just blessing us with their presence in our home. After the plumber arrived, he inspected the dryer, performed the service and gave us a bill. They charged $99.00 to come to the house and another $75 to disconnect the line and cap it. A job that took about 15 mins... maybe! I could have had it done for 1/4 the price by several other companies, as I found out later.

The $99 diagnostic fee not only reflects the cost to send a qualified technician in a stocked truck out to perform an evaluation, it also helps cover expenses incurred hiring, training and maintaining a professional staff that will provide the exceptional service our customers have come to expect. We appreciate the feedback and will keep these comments in mind during our routine evaluation of business practices and pricing structures.

I called at approximately 1:30-2pm I told them I had no heat. The charges were explained I opted for the higher wekend charge. I was told the Technician would call when he finished the current job he was working. He called and told me he would arrive around 5pm, he arrived a bit earlier. He immediately diagnosed a clogged pipe, cleaned it then showed me how to clean it should it happen again. Additionally he left a "special service tool" (zip tie :-D) to be used to clean the pipe. How awesome is that?

The technition arrived on time taking care not to track dirt into the house. He greeted us in a professional manor. The technition then explained what he was going to complete on this day. Using the Haller checklist, he completed the listed items in the shortest period of time in a very professional manor. He discribed every step he had completed and what it was for. Upon completion he explained every anotation on the bill. Since this service was prepaid, no payment was due. Charles is a highly qualified professional and deserves recognition from Haller for the job he does for the company.
Description of Work: Let me explain the price of the service. The above is a bi-annual cost for the Heating and Air Conditioning, whole house humidifier and water heater service contract. The Heating is tested and inspected in the fall, the air conditioning in the spring and the water heater when the year is up. This visit was for the fall heating testing and inspection. The technition tested and inspected the heating system using Hallers Check List containing 33 items for my forced air system.

They came to clean out our oil boiler in November and came again in May when we experienced an abnormally high oil usage. Scheduling was a bit tough, though, as they were pretty booked. The technician was very helpful in explaining what needed to be done but he didn't check one system part until I inquired about it... During both visits, the technician was very particular about wearing booties to protect the living space floor from dirt. Follow up repair (when part was available) went smoothly as well.

The people who did the work were great. The price quotes, when needed, were timely and well explained and documented. My ratings are biased by two incidents, the second of which occurred in July of 2012. I scheduled an appointment for routine service. When the day of service arrived I waited for their arrival and after waiting much of the day I called their office and learned that they did not have me on their calendar at all. They asked if I would like to schedule (again). This exact same thing happened more than a year earlier. Service begins in the office. I waited two different days while no technicians were scheduled to come to my house. I rescheduled the first time, but I can not accept this repeatedly. As satisfied as I am with their technicians, the scheduling system needs work.

They are pretty good except that they are expensive. They charged me $4,000 for the water heater and approximately $6,000 for the bathroom. They did not seem to understand what I wanted and would not accommodate to me. I did not understand plumbing at the time, but I thought they would advise me with what I needed or take the time to give me all my options. I would not use them again for a large project like this, but I would use them for maintenance repair work.

I found them on Angie's List and they did a nice job. The only thing I didn't like about them is that they tried to sell me one of their service policies and I don't go for that. If I make a year commitment and pay $180 they won't give a discount which I don't like. Either they have to do their job for whatever it costs or don't do it for whatever it costs. I don't like being pushed into a service policy to get a discount. I'm not sure whether or not I will use them again because if I pay for the service policy everything else gets a ten percent discount so I don't know if I would do that. I would probably pick somebody else. Not that they didn't do a good job or not that their price wasn't within a reasonable range but I just don't like the pressure. They just tried to tell me that in the long run it's going to save me money but it's not like I run to a plumber every single time. I paid $180 so that's another service call if I need them so I don't need to buy a plan.

There were some problems with the installation. Several things were not done quite right, including certain connections like the humidifier. Then it turns out that they way it was installed, the humidifier they sold me would not fit the system anyhow. However, because I had gone with Haller due to the fact that someone I knew well had gone to work for them, I was able to get things corrected promptly and properly, the humidifier replaced with what it should have been, etc.. My friend is in their commercial division, but I insist on working with him whenever I need something checked or have questions. Therefore, I will continue to use them as long as he is there. Now for the not-so-good stuff: they are very expensive and hard sell. Also because of my friend, I brought them in to work on the old systems at my company. They serviced the existing equipment (and did an excellent job), but kept pushing for us to buy new, which we could not afford. In one case when a motor went out, they said it could not be fixed and had to be replaced for something like $14,000. Turns out the motor was a standard one and could be purchased off the shelf at around $200.00, which he did and installed it and the unit works fine. Dealing with them takes either a lot of knowledge, a willingness to push back and be firm, or have a friend you really trust. From what I understand, there are few, if any, truly trustworthy HVAC companies. I was screwed on the HVAC (furnace & AC) I bought before this one (not from Haller). That one was a long-since discontinued unit (found that out when trying to find parts - propane nozzles- for it when I could not find the company that originally installed it). Those essential parts could not be found and the unit had to be replaced even though it was working fine except for the dissolving nozzles - a major fire hazard. I've only owned the house 10 years. The unit from Haller is the second unit I've put in. The basic problem is that you have to be able to know what you want and be firm about the units and brands you research. First, companies will, of course, try to sell you systems 1) the get the highest profit on and 2) that they have in stock. Second, from what I've been told, the residential HVAC technicians are poorly trained, and not that careful or precise. I have been told by my friend that Haller is working to improve both the hiring choices and the training for residential technicians to bring it to the level of commercial, which is definitely far better. If you decide to work with them, be firm, do your research, and demand to speak to Jeremy Moyer. He is not only completely honest, but usually tests enhancements by buying and installing them in his own home. He is one of those people who does a lot of research on his own and in addition to standard HVAC training, he studies on his own to become more proficient and skilled. Even the company acknowledges that he is the best they have. Even though he works in the commercial area, you can push to have him help you determine your best bets and evaluate the final installation.
Description of Work: Replaced an old propane HVAC system with a new, energy efficient system - also propane. Initial install had problems (see below). But, due to pressure from the commercial side (I also own a commercial building that has systems that need repair, maintenance and, eventually, replacing) the repairs were done properly. Do not count on the skill or knowledge of the residential technicians at this point, unless you have a knowledgeable someone you trust to check all aspects of the installation to insure they were done properly. They do have good equipment and some special enhancements that can make your system an outstanding one, but be sure the person with whom you are working really knows what they are talking about and be willing to do research on your own. This is something you should do no matter what company you are working with.

We had been put on Haller's preferred customers list because they had done a lot of work for us in August when we first bought our home. We saw they had an offer for free financing for a new furnace/ac install and we took advantage of the opportunity given that we had no air conditioning and that the furnace was 40 years old. We had to upgrade our electric from 100 to 200 amps to support the improvements. Haller employees got the work done in 2 days. They worked in teams to get everything accomplished. They had a lot to get done- one team replaced our furnace, one installed the AC unit, 1 worked on the electrical panel. They kept me fully informed on everything they did. Just like last time, they made sure I understood everything 100% before leaving my property. They were sure to clean up after themselves (they actually went well beyond what they needed to here; our utility room never looked cleaner). We had to have a township inspector come out and inspect the work- the inspector noticed 1 issue with their work (he wanted a permanent cap on the old furnace pipe) but then also noticed other issues that Haller had not worked on. I contacted Haller and Nate came in and took care of everything at no additional cost. We've since passed our inspection with flying colors and the inspector went on to say how "those Haller guys know what they're doing; they're good guys." We have to agree with the inspector. Every employee we've worked with has been thorough, respectful, and detail-oriented. They are sure that the work they do is completed in a timely manner and done right.

Haller installed a Trane XL Furnace/Central Air unit for us in 2002, and have been out to service it a number of times including adding a zone heating/cooling system for an addition on our house. I've been happy with their past work, so when the AC unit started leaking water due to a frozen evaportor core - the part inside the house I called Haller for service. We called over Memorial day w/e, as it was not an emergency - the unit would work for awhile if we shut it off to de-ice, we were ok with the tech not coming til Tues 5/29. After hearing my description of the problem the tech immedaitely stated it would be cheaper to buy new A/C unit then to fix the old. He checked a few things said the temp diff is only 7 degrees and that the refrigerant is low. Said a Leak search is over $300, that he's 90% certain its the evaporator core or the outdoor unit and that the cost is going to be well over $2500., that I'm 1/2 way to a new unit.He again said its probably better to buy new, I asked him to just start the repair as even if the new is $500 more, I, like most people, need to save the $$ and risk that the device may fail again in a few years. He then went out to his truck came back again with a written quote. It was even higher, plus parts could take 2 1/.2 weeks and a leak search takes 3-4 hours. Now he felt I was exceeding the cost of a new unit. He suggested he have a "consultant " call me to discuss. It was obvious that the only way he was going to even attempt a fix was if I insisted, and even then, what kind of work is he going to do? Obviously his focus was to close out tickets and move on - fixing anything was optional.Consultant called - he said it's cheaper to fix?? So now I'm out $99 for the "service" call and the consultant has no answers for me other then to refer the matter back to the Service Manager. A few hours later with no call back I called Haller and asked to speak to the Service Manager - he said he left a VM on our honme phone (despite the fact that I asked all calls be made to my cell as I have to work and would not be home).Service Manager said was neutral on all this, thought the tech overstepped a bit. I said I'd like to forget the whole thing a get my $99 back, as nothing was done. SM said they'd send another tech today. - No thanks, its over 90 degrees, I've taken off work, talked to a tech, A consultant and the Service manager and my A/C is no closer to working then it was three days ago. SM said he would talk to his manager about possibly granting a refund! Will post the outcome of the refund request.

After looking at the work order and talking with both the service technician in question and his Team Leader, I believe our service technician did not follow standard protocol when addressing the homeowner’s issue. Haller takes pride in thoroughly checking every system and providing our customers with all available options. Regrettably, our service technician, in my opinion, did not communicate clearly with this homeowner, nor did he give all the best options. We will be issuing a refund check to the homeowner for the basic diagnostic fee of $99 and will be using this incident as a means to improve the technician’s customer service and communication skills. I spoke to the homeowner about his experience and apologized for our lack of customer service. I requested that, in the future, he consider giving Haller the opportunity to prove we can and do offer a higher level of customer service than was his experience. – Service Manager
