I joined Angie's List solely to review Straightforward Fence. They were that good. Please note this review is almost a year since the project was completed, but better late than never! I am slightly fanatical about the service of anyone whom I'm paying to do work for me. I have very high standards and always hope they will be met. It is rare that I have an experience as satisfying as the Straightforward Fence experience was. It was consistent from the staff answering the phone in the office to the installers on the site. How I Found Straightforward I researched fence companies for a month prior to deciding upon 3 to get estimates from. I checked online reviews, word of mouth, BBB ratings, etc. I saw several fences done by Straightforward in my area and remarked how I'd never heard of them. The estimates I received were all fairly close cost wise, but they people at Straightforward made the decision easy. The Estimate I called the office and requested an estimate. They were able to schedule an estimate that same week. Larry came out to survey my property, do some measuring and answer general questions about fence types, etc. He was very friendly and informative. Because my request was more custom than standard, Gary followed up with a phone call the next week to discuss options. It was a lengthy call and at no time did Gary seem irritated by my numerous questions, nor did he hurry the conversation. We scheduled a date for him to come out to the house and finalize an estimate. The night Gary came to the house he was probably here for 2 or 3 hours. We walked the property continuing to describe what I wanted and him indicating the options and best approaches. We then sat in the house for a long time as I showed him pictures on the internet of fences types I liked and was hoping to replicate. The whole time Gary was beyond friendly, very helpful and extremely professional. Although he hadn't given me the final estimate, I had already decided we would be signing a contract with his company. The Installation After signing the contract, Straightforward was able to schedule our job 2 weeks later. This was impressive considering it was Spring when everyone wants a fence built. They were also mindful of my daughters Baptism party, agreeing to complete the job the previous weekend. Nick and the crew arrived the scheduled morning right on time. You could actually smell cedar from inside the house. There was a bit of confusion over how the fence was to be installed but that was cleared up after a quick phone call with Gary. (we were having the "good" side installed facing inward, with the posts on the "good" side when they are typically on the "bad" side. It's a really cool look if you're interested) As the work progressed, the professionalism of Straightforward continued. Nick and his crew worked hard, were friendly, and kept the site clean. There was no profanity, I think they played music but it wasn't loud. Their professionalism (and patience) were tested when a neighbor of mine caused a bit of an issue. Prior to my involvement Nick and the crew handled themselves were well in a situation that was not their fault and certainly tried their patience. I could give many examples of their great work but you probably get the idea. I think they stated they'd be done in 2 days, but it probably took 3. The first day was unbelievably hot and humid so it wasn't a day to work too hard and fast. I'd much rather the job take longer and be done perfectly anyways, nor did I want 3 heat stroked installers in my backyard. The Aftermath Once the fence was up the 5 foot gate (that's a big gate) began to not close easily about a week later. I called Straightforward and they had an installer come out that same week. He explained that one of the posts had settled a bit off after we'd had a decent amount of rain (prior to the concrete hardening). He dug up the post (having to break up all the concrete), re-installed the post, re-aligned that part of the fence and then poured new concrete (wet instead or dry). He did all of this with a smile. The gate has closed perfectly since. Summary Marta, Larry, Gary, Nick and all the installers were awesome. Gary and Marta simply run a first class company. I honestly have little interest in this site (no offense Angie!) but I wanted to do everything I could to spread the word about such a great organization. In an area where fence contractors are a dime a dozen, I feel the horror stories are just as common. No horror story here just the exact opposite. I said at the beginning of this painfully long review that I am fanatical about service. I would honestly give Straightforward a 10 out of 10....an A+....whatever the highest mark is. If I ever decide to do more fence work on my property, or anyone I know needs a fence, there is only one company I will go to....Straightforward. Thanks again Gary, Marta and Nick!

I had asked a neighbor that had a fence installed by StraightForward Fence (their sign was on the front lawn) if he was pleased with the work done. I had received very positive feedback and since we were in the market for a new fence decided to call them. I met with Gary the CEO to discuss price and options. Gary was very pleasant, informative and great to deal with. He provided me with options and price which was way more competitive then other proposals I had received. Before he left we came to a agreement as to what we wanted discussed terms and time frame of when they could start. They had to wait till we had several trees removed before they could start. Gary came back a couple days later with a contract and check list that he went over in detail to make sure it was what we wanted. I paid the down payment signed the contract and he told me that I would get contacted by Marta/CFO so that I could plan with her as to a start date. Marta called as promised and I let her know and kept her informed as to how and when the tree removal was going. She had planned it so well that the day after the trees were all removed their crew came to start removing the old wooden fence. The crew were prompt, cheerful & courteous. They were great to deal with. We went over in detail at the start of the job as to what and and how I wanted to have done. The job was completed in two full days (due to weather could only work a partial morning) Marta was in touch with me everyday to let me know what the crew was going to do for the next day. The old fence was removed and a new PVC fence was installed. Everything was cleaned up at the end of the job and a terrific job was done by everyone from start to finish. We are very pleased with our experience and work done by Straightforward fence and they will be highly recommended by us to anyone needing or looking to have fence work done. A job well done !!!!

The project took 2 days, the exact time period scheduled. Work crew was very professional and courteous and gave daily updates on progress. All old fencing and debris were removed. The new fence installation was very well done. Job was on time and in budget. There were no hidden "extras." We are very pleased with the workmanship.

I emailed them on a Wednesday night and they called on the Thursday morning to set up at appointment on Saturday when they'd be in the area. We were looking for an estimate on fencing in our backyard. They said they would be here between 9-11 am. At 11:30 they called and said they'd been out snowplowing and so they did not think they would come today. They offered to reschedule. Had they called between 9-11 (preferably earlier in the morning) we would have rescheduled. But calling after the time period, we were not interested- especially since they had a 2 hour time window in which to arrive or call.

It was cheaper than any other priviate or national retailer. They were efficient. They had really good quality materials. They offered financing.

Pros: offered to come out and provide a free estimate same day I called provided insurance and State registration documentation with estimate install crew was courteous, skilled and professional post holes were dug carefully by hand near utilities fence was perfectly aligned vertically and horizontally materials were top grade - Pressure Treated posts were perfectly straight they offered 2x4 horizontal braces for a little extra $$ (as opposed to 2x3's normally used) they used an entire 80 lb. bag of concrete mix for each post - in my experience with 2 other companies, this is a first cleanup was complete - every rock, chunk of old concrete, extra soil, old fence was completely removed Although they told me that they install in all weather, I requested that install be done with temperatures above freezing - they delayed install two days to comply with my request Cons: cannot think of anything that could have been better The 2x4 horizontal braces were about an extra dollar per linear foot - highly recommended - makes fence very sturdy. Ask contractors if their price includes removal of the old fence as this company did. (The last company I hired piled my old fence at the curb and I had a tough time getting rid of it)

After contacting Gary, he came to do an estimate in a day or two. He quickly understood what I needed and made some helpful suggestions. I had a little trouble contacting him after that but he explained why when he called me back. He followed up and did a great job for a fair price. I will definitely use him again for any matters concerning fencing.

We contacted Straightforward after a previously recommended contractor took forever to initially come out to give us an estimate and then never answered our calls holding up the whole process. We then looked up other fencing companies in the yellow pages and found Straightforward. The sales guy came out with in a couple of days, gave us a competitive quote (but not particularly low which was good) but we were impressed with their promptness, the fact that they machined their own stockade fencing and their attention to detail. Once we confirmed our intention to use them they were quick to come out, remeasure everything, sit down and discuss all the little details, such as gate style, which side gates should open, connections with pre-existing (neighbors fence posts) etc. The gave us a time line which was fine but then called us following a delay in delivery of materials for another job to tell us they could start earlier. Once they confirmed a day they showed up and had 75% of the job done by the time I got home from work that evening. Heavy rain delayed the completion but as soon as it dried out enough they were back and the job was done exactly as we discussed. They also did not hang around to pester us for the balance of payment, we left a check out for them a few days later. Can't say enough about them. I asked them if they did patios as well but unfortunately they don't otherwise they would have had the business.
