+ -1 moreI had to replace an old kitchen faucet with a new one that I bought. I've replaced faucets before, but this time I had trouble removing the old one. After struggling for an hour, I went on Angie's List to find a plumber. I decided, after reading the reviews, to call Benjamin Franklin Plumbing to come to the rescue. They gave me a window between 1-4 that same day, and arrived around 3:30pm. They called ahead and said George was on the way. He was courteous and prompt . He went straight to work after giving me an estimate and explaining the features of a service contract. He completed the job after about 45 minutes and cleaned up completely. Although the total cost of $355 to replace a faucet seems to be a bit pricey to me, I was, overall, quite satisfied with the work done.

Description of Work: When I called for service on a Wednesday they weren't able to come out until Friday. Which was ok since it wasn't a major leak. they arrived at the time specified. Description of Work: We needed to have our diverter changed from a three handle to a single. After many estimates saying we would have to rip out the wall to do this Benjamin Franklin came in and said we have this kit that will do it. + -1 moreIt seems to be OK. Everything looks very well done with the install but we won't really know until the power cuts off again in the middle of another hurricane. Slight problem with the billing afterward but I do believe it was an honest error and it was corrected in a reasonable amount of time. I am the one who found the error though. There's no way to know if it would have gone unnoticed and never corrected at all. It would have cost me a substantial amount that being the case. Hopefully the office manager was alarmed enough to think up a way to make sure that never happens again. Lesson learned long ago...always check check and triple check your banking statements. Having said all that I should reiterate I would definately do business again with this company. I believe they are very good at plumbing and friendly as can be. Anyone can make a mistake.

+ 0 moreAfter hearing gurgling in the piping whenever I turned on the water in the bathroom or the kitchen or flushed the toilet. On 09/27/11 after taking a shower, I saw the water drain from the tub slowly and start to bubble up out of the bathroom sink. Flushing the toilet made the water plop up and out of the bathroom sink. I went to the basement and saw lots of water on the floor underneath the bathroom piping. I had used Benjamin Franklin Pluming before and was thrilled with their work. I gave them a call for this issue and Colleen (who answered the phone) could not have been nicer. I called them around 9:30 and she dispatched Joey right away. Joey arrived about 30 minutes later, which was awesome. Turns out the previous owner did lots of self repairs but apparently didn't have the skills. The piping was installed incorrectly which did not give adequate pressure to flush the pipes. Joey worked very hard and resolved the problem in about 2 hours. He replaced some piping and now there are no more problems. I will always call Benjamin Franklin Plumbing for all of my plumbing repairs.

+ -1 moreThey are really close to me, only a couple of miles away. They came out very promptly. They waived their service fee which was awesome. They did the work and they gave me a discount. The actual operational price was $225 or $250 there. They did a great job. They were very clean and professional. They put parts down and took care of everything. He did such a great job that my home didn't have any extra water supply for my garden hose. They did such an excellent job of repairing my shower that I just paid them to go ahead and do my outside job. I was pretty experienced with them as well. The pricing is awesome. I would use their services again in the future.

+ -1 moreI was having a refrigerator installed the next day and the night before, in preparation fo delivery of the new refrigerator, I could not get the old saddle valve to shutoff, in addition my refrigerator was very old and had a fitting that would not fit the new refrigerator. Tim from Ben Franklin came out at 7 in the evening (within an hour of my call) and he was very professional. He installed a new shutoff and gave me the fitting for the new refrigerator. Although I thought the price was a little high, my experience was positive and I would use Ben Franklin again. What stood out to me was, 1) they were very courteous on the phone, 2) very quick to respond, 3) very professional, and 4) appeared very well equipped with a well stocked truck to handle pretty much everything. . Will use them again.

+ 0 moreWe only reached the estimate and talking it over phase with Benjamin Franklin for our main issue but were pleased by the way they handled themselves business-wise. They did fine with the drain snaking except for that pesky additional fee because our drain was located on the roof and thus not, in their terms, easily accessible.
Description of Work: This is the second time we have used Benjamin Franklin for a drain cleaning. As with the first time, they were prompt and professional and they did a good job. Only one tiny issue cropped up and that was that this time they had to charge us an additional fee of $59 because our drain is not easily accessible. They had to climb to the rooftop to snake the drain. What confused us was that this was a new charge, it was not charged the first time they snaked the drain back in November. Ben Franklin said that was an error back in November on the part of the tech who came out and that we should have been charged that fee. Additionally they could not guarantee their work beyond a limited time frame; however, as our issue was with tree roots growing through and clogging our main drain. It simply needs to be replaced as the house is 55 years old and still has the main original drain {sigh} which was made out of freaking tar paper or something. Ben Franklin also gave us an estimate on the main drain replacement and generously offered to apply what we just paid them to snake out the drain toward the balance of the main drain job. I thought that was cool. Kind of made up for that extra fee thing. We did not choose to go with Benjamin Franklin Plumbing for our major plumbing issue but it was close - we ALMOST did. And I think everything would have worked out fine. (We went with another plumber who was "just" a bit cheaper and has just as good reviews - plus they'll use cast iron whereas Ben Franklin quoted a similar price for plastic.) We liked the people we encountered at Ben Franklin and appreciated the fact that they really wanted our business, as they called us back several times to review their proposal and they were very willing to work with us. We feel they bent as much as they could to accommodate our needs but the other plumbing company we ultimately decided to go with did offer a better deal. Had we not received that better deal I know we would have been very happy with Ben Franklin.

+ -1 moreThe plumber from Ben Franklin was courteous, professional, and extremely quick to respond. However, he seemed really uncomfortable working with older plumbing of this type. He also really only wanted to do the standard things. For example, the shower currently had a hand shower rather than a fixed shower head. He wanted to install a fixed shower head (even though we wanted a hand shower). A fixed head would have required him to cut open the wall and install pipes up to the shower head. I would then be responsible for sealing the opening up. It didn't sound like Ben Franklin even carried appropriate hardware to install a hand shower. In the end we decided not to commission Ben Franklin for the work because of the hand shower issue and his obvious lack of comfort with the plumbing in an older home (ours is 80+ years old). They were extremely responsive, and I would suggest using them for any work in a newer house, or when response time is important.
Description of Work: We ran into a plumbing problem during another home repair (replacing tile). The pipes leading the to faucet in a shower would leak a lot whenever the water was turned on. A representative from Ben Franklin Plumbing came out to review the situation and provide an estimate of repair costs. He arrived very quickly (within 2 hours) and looked over the situation. We live in an older house and the plumbing is old and not always done according to current industry standards. He seemed unsure about working with it, but suggested a way that the problem could be resolved through re-doing the plumbing around the shower, as well as the faucet, handles, and showerhead. Total repair estimate was $750, but I decided not to hire them to do the work, choosing another contractor instead. I still had to pay $49 for the initial service call and estimate.

When we came home from work there was water pouring out of the recessed lighting and ceiling fan of the master bedroom below. Ben Franklin plumbing came out within the hour and replaced the burst pipe. There was an $89 fee just to show up which is separate from the cost of the work.
Description of Work: Drain the heating system, replace a piece of pipe, and fill the heating system.

+ -1 moreWhen I called the company for a quote, they said that it would be $35 for someone to come have a look at it and then they would give me a quote. I think it is ridiculous for them to expect me to pay them to have a look at it and then blindly accept whatever they claim the charges will be for the work. I always shop around for at least 3 quotes before I hire anyone and they have surely lost my business! My comment is on their business practice and hence I cannot comment on their actual work. Hence my rating "Yes" to surely consider them for future jobs.
Description of Work: Proposed work was to connect a new refrigerator ice and water dispenser to a cold water line. The sink is located in a base cabinet right next to the refrigerator.

+ -1 moreJohn was a great detective and explained everything as he went along. Punctual (estimated time of arrival was between 8am and 10am and John arrived before 8:30). Efficient, experienced, clean, friendly, trustworthy. Willing to explain reasons for the damage (defective copper). Willing to explain procedures. Willing to advise on how to approach adjusters and on what to do in future regarding pipe replacement. He was out before 11am. He probably would have been out earlier, but I had so many questions! And he answered them all!
Description of Work: Originally called out for a leak detection and quote. (Slow leak was coming from ceiling and saturated wall and kitchen cupboard. It was looked at by others but was not discovered before. This was a five year old, on and off leak). John made sure to inspect EVERY possibility before he suggested that he punch holes in wall to locate cause. Found and repaired/replaced two deteriorated points on hot waterline.
