The salesman came and explored our needs and wants. He let us think about our choices and called a week later to make an appointment to meet again. He got all the information and scheduled the installation. All was on time and very neat.

We had about ten or fifteen companies giving us estimates. They were a couple of guys who were really unprofessional. The price was removing my old sidings was high. Some people told me that it was encapsulated asbestos; it was not. It was just composite shingle and everyone was giving me a high bid to just go over it. I wanted it taken down and I was not ready to pay so much. They did not seem to want to do the work that I wanted done. They would be shooting nails into the shingle so if they happened to be asbestos shingle, it would be releasing some asbestos into the air. They were reasonably responsive and punctual.
Description of Work: I obtained an estimate from KLA Construction Inc for new roof shingles and putting in new sidings.

Very well. Original bid was competitive with others. There were some add-ons but they were at our discretion and i believe the cost of these were reasonable. We had a minor problem with the attitude of one of the workers but this was resolved very much to our satisfaction and had nothing to do with the quality of work. We have committed to another project with KLA.
Description of Work: KLA remodeled a sun room. This involved removing paneling, installing drywall on the walls and ceiling, removing French doors and installing 2 windows at that location, and installing a sliding glass door at the location where the windows were (the windows were re-used.) Also did electical work, installing new outlets and running 2 new circuits to the panel box in the basement. Also matched trim on outside of the sunroom, and it matches very well.

Took KLA over four months to respond with an estimate. Cost was substantially beyond expectations, and many of the construction objectives were not included (metal roof, foam insulation, etc.). Quite disapointing after the initial positive meeting.

KLA was the highest bid we received, but we went with them because we trust their work from previous jobs. This was a large job that took 10 days to complete. In the end we were very happy with the final result. We only had one minor incident where plans were not followed exactly; but one call and the incorrect part was re-done to our satisfaction. In the end we have beautiful roof that will last for many decades to come. If something does go wrong we feel confident that choosing KLA will insure that if problems do come up they will come back and make things right.
Description of Work: KLA was one of several bids we received to replace our gutters, downspouts, shingles and repair rotted sections. They also added perlins and plywood over a large section of roof.

KLA provided a fixed estimate for work and the Chimney was much more difficult than they anticipated. They completed the work at agreed price. When a misunderstanding about finishing happened. They split the difference on the misunderstanding, which we felt was very fair. KLA followed-up the day after the job was done to see if we were happy. We told them that we felt the drywall was hung sloppy making the mud and tape more difficult for us. The general manager came out the next day to look at it and then sent a drywall pro to tape and mud and first coat at no charge for us to . The drywall pro they sent did an excellent job putting the first coat on. It will now be very easy for us to finish it. I'm rating lower in responsiveness due to the length of time from bid to completion. This is the third job we've had KLA complete, and other work we've done has been in late fall or winter when things are slower. During those times KLA was very responsive and there were no delays. This work was done during peak times in the summer and the time from first call until job complete was longer than we previously experienced. Note: Even though the responsiveness was slow from first call to estimate. Once the contract was signed and we were in-queue, things moved very quickly. They met or exceeded all agreed upon dates.
Description of Work: KLA removed a chimney, repaired roof, and finished interior wall to cover over fireplace.

1. They did a good job with the driveway regrading and new gravel.2. The spray foam installation was okay, I guess, but they got spray on new door and windows and didn't do a good job of cleanup. Now that the spray foam is in place, I wonder about how or where we will run electricity down there. We aren't experts in home construction and so we didn't know that the first contractor had overlooked the need for insulation. So now I wonder if KLA might have suggested how to manage the installation of the foam insulation with other needs or purposes for the room under the porch.3. The awning is beautiful and they did a good job of installing it on the roof. They did a terrible job, however of thinking through the power needs and also the ability to manually retract the awning. At the time we ordered the awning, we expected to have an outlet installed on the porch and so when we spoke with KLA they said they could run a line down from the awning to the outlet. We also chatted about having a switch inside the house plus a remote. We bought the remote and also bought a wind sensor. KLA did not make it clear that we had not ordered the internal switch and though the salesman also assured us that we could manually retract the awning if there was a power failure, we got no internal switch and the awning was placed on the roof in a way that made manual retraction virtually impossible. The placement of the awning was such that the long stick retracting device could not be used at the angle needed. Manual retraction would have to be with a small tool inserted under the awning with no leverage and you would have to be sitting on the roof or reaching up from a ladder. In addition, the cord that they did install to run down the side of the house to the external outlet, was bright white. We have a dark log home. We had specifically ordered a dark color on the metal of the awning to match the house but were not told about the color of the cord. The way that they installed this white cord was to lay it OVER the outside of out dark brown gutters and the staple it to the logs in a straight line down to the porch. There was no attempt to hide the cord or protect it from the elements. It was simply hideously and ridiculously installed. I cried. My husband said not to worry he would hire an electrician to come fix it. I said KLA should fix it. I called them and spoke with the project supervisor who said he would talk with the salesman and call me back on my cell phone. I waited and after getting no call, I called and was placed on a speaker with the salesman, Allen, and the project manager. Allen asked me to email him a photo and that he would look at it and call me back on my cell phone. I took pictures, emailed them and waited over an hour. I called and found out that Allen had called my husband instead and left it that we would hire an electrician to fix it. THEN Allen called back to say if we had an electrician cut the cord, we would void the warranty. I refused to sign anymore contracts with KLA because I was astounded at how poorly they did the installation and the way in which I was treated- as if I was non-existent.
Description of Work: We intended to use KLA to correct and finish a porch project started the prior year by a local contractor who did a horrible job. We signed three contracts with KLA to move forward while we were still deciding on a porch surface, railings and steps. The contracts we signed were for: 1. driveway regrading and gravel2. spray foam insulation under the concrete porch to stop condensation3. installation of a retractable awning over the porch

Response from KLA Construction Inc
1. No response. 2. When we came to the house to inspect the driveway grading and gravel install, I asked the member how he liked the spray foam job on the underside of the porch and he told me he was happy with the job. If I had been made aware of any issues with the clean-up from this project, I would have notified my insulation installer go back to the home and clean up any overspray from the closed cell foam. In regards to the electricity in the space below the porch, I explained to the member in our initial meeting that it would not be a good idea to mount anything directly to the underside of the steel decking because penetrating the decking could cause future leaks if the water penetrated thru the concrete above. Again, keep in mind, KLA Construction was contracted to fix a problem cause be another contractor. 3. KLA Construction did not supply the power supply for the awning. The previous contract had a 12-2 wire with ground leading up from the new concrete porch connecting into a receptacle box hanging from a nail in the log siding on the exterior. Our awning installer did run the standard 18’ motor cable done from the awning to the existing outlet. The member contends that we did ‘a terrible job, however of thinking through the power needs and also the ability to manually retract the awning.’ The member’s provided the outlet for powering the awning, which was below the awning and on the exterior of the house. There is/was no other way to run the electric for the awning beyond the proper installation that we provided. This was discussed with the members at the time they contracted KLA for their awning. The customer stated that we had chatted about having a switch inside the house, (which is available from the manufacturer), but she does state that they did order the remote and the wind sensor. The switch is a wireless switch that would generally be ordered in place of or in addition to the remote to control the operation of the awning. The customer also stated that the awning was placed on the roof in a way that made the manual retraction virtually impossible. The reason this awning was mounted back further on the roof was due to the roof and overhang construction. When the installer got onto the roof to install the awning he found that there wasn’t sufficient framing in the customer’s overhang and could not safely mount the awning in that position. He advised the customer that the awning be moved back further on the roof, so the awning could be bolted into solid roof framing and the customer agreed. When the installer finished the installation, he went over the checklist and operation of the awning with the member and the member then signed off on the Awning Job Sign-Off (attached) that he was satisfied. Later in the day, the member called into the office and said she was unhappy with the installation and the power cord. We asked her to email us a picture so we could look at her concerns. The member did email pictures and commented that they were having an electrician modify the power cord. After looking at the photos, we called the member’s back on the telephone number from out contract and talked to the member. We explained that the cords only came in white from the manufacturer and that we would not be able to modify the power cord. He said that he would have his electrician put another cord or shorten the cord on the awning. After getting this information, we again called the manufacturer just to make sure this would not affect his warranty. When we called the manufacturer, the did tell us that if the cord to the awning was modified, this would void the customers’ warranty. We then called the customer back and advised them of this situation. KLA Construction in no way meant to treat Mrs. Member any differently than Mr. Member, but we only had one telephone number for contacting the customer, and I believe this number was Mr. Member’s cell phone number. KLA Construction, Inc. sends out a survey to all our customers at the completion of the project. The member’s was sent out 04/18/12, but never returned. We received no other communication from the member’s about any issues with the project after the member’s conveyed to KLA that they were hiring an electrician to make modifications. We understood this situation as being complete. Additionally, none of these issues were brought to our attention while we were completing the other two projects in early June. This complaint was very unexpected since no other avenues were taken to try to resolve this in the past 5 months. Sincerely, Fred Williams Operations Manager KLA Construction, Inc. 724-805-4977

We were very pleased with KLA Construction Inc. They were very professional. They came and gave us a detailed estimate. Their follow up was very good and the construction was excellent. They also cleaned up very well afterwards and put everything away. My husband and I like the way they did the job.
Description of Work: They replaced our roof and they also extended the eves because they did not extend out over the roof so we had leaking problems in the winter time. They also replaced the gutters and they put gutter coverings on.

I looked for authorized distributors on the SunSetter website. KLA was recommended. I called KLA in the last week in April. They returned my call promptly and set up an appointment for May 1st. The salesman (Buddy Pevarnik) had all the information as well as fabric samples for all the SunSetter awnings. I ordered the awning that day. He said it would take about three weeks for the awning to be delivered to KLA. Sure enough, the awning was delivered to KLA on about the 22nd of May. The install was set for the 24th at 12:00 noon. The installers (Bob & Rich) were there at about 11:50. I watched the install from start to finish, and I couldn't believe what a great job they did. They removed a piece of siding, then placed a 2 x 10 stud against the house with 10 lag screws. The whole board was then covered in white aluminum (very professional). The awning was then attached to the board. The whole job turned out MUCH better than I expected. I would DEFINITLY recommend KLA.

Our roof was damaged due to a widespread, violent storm approximately a year ago. I contacted a number of companies for a repair estimate. KLA's senior lead carpenter, Buddy, visited shortly following my call. He brought and showed me a number of brochures with product options. He was the only company representative of those called who had product samples to show. He thoroughly discussed the repair options with me as he pointed out the extent of the damage done and condition of the roof. I contracted with KLA but postponed the repair until the following season due to the volume of their previously scheduled work and the onset of colder weather. When the repair started, Buddy introduced me to the work crew and turned the job over to Brian, the site supervisor. My dealings with Brian were pleasant and professional. He and I would discuss any concerns that I might have and he and his crew worked to satisfy them. Any contact I had with his crew was also polite and professional. The work was completed in three days and Brian went over the work order items with me. They had also repaired a few items needing so that weren't on their list. I requested that Buddy return following the job completion so I could personally tell him about the professionalism of his work crew, their supervisor, and my satisfaction with the new roof.
Description of Work: Due to a wide-ranging hailstorm, our roof was damaged and needed replacement.

Based off recommendations from friends & coworkers, as well as their general reputation & image, I contacted KLA for a quote to have the load bearing wall between my kitchen & dining room removed. Was able to reach someone at their office on my first call, who was very professional & courteous. She took my information down, and offered to have someone call me back to arrange a time. After several weeks and no call back, I followed up with the office, she apologized, and again offered to have someone call me back. After several more weeks, I decided to give them one more chance. This time she was able to put me through to the appropriate person (sorry, I can't remember his name). He was very courteous and professional, although he didn't offer any sort of apology or explanation for my time being wasted, my calls not being returned, etc... On the day of the appointment, he arrived on time. He was clean and neatly dressed, and overall he projected a very confident & professional image, which helped re-establish some of the confidence I had lost after the hassle & time wasted while attempting to schedule this appointment. Anyway... He introduced himself, asked a few questions about what I wanted done, made some measurements, went down to the basement to see what was underneath the wall I wanted removed, etc... He promised a written estimate in 7-10 days. A month later, after still not receiving the estimate, I called and asked about it. I was told that she'd pass my info along, and they'd be in touch. Another few weeks passed by, with no calls, no estimates in the mail, etc... Out of the blue, I got a call from the woman at KLA's office, asking if I'd made a decision about whether or not to hire them for the work. She sounded very surprised when I told her that I still hadn't even received an estimate. Then, miraculously, I received the estimate a few days later. They quoted me $2,300, which was more than I expected for this project. We've put this project tentatively on hold, and haven't pursued any competitive bids, yet. When the time comes though, it's not likely that I'll contact KLA due to how poorly they handled their scheduling, and their lack of follow through with sending as promised. Like I said though, he was punctual and professional with the actual appointment, but before and after the appointment, were terrible. Maybe my job was too small for them, and they didn't want it in the first place?

After calling several companies for estimates and receiving either no response, or unprofessional treatment, we called KLA. They responded quickly, sent a knowledgeable and professional representative who thoroughly examined the roof, made good suggestions and pointed out other areas of concern that other contractors had missed entirely. The estimate was returned quickly and explained in detail with good warranty information and references. Since this was a small job, the contractor was not sure when they would be able to complete the work, but guaranteed that it would be completed within six weeks. Within a week, they called to say that they could start within two days. They arrived on time, and a foreman and the contractor was on site for much of the two-day job. The staff was professional, meticulous and worked all day with only a short lunch break. They cleaned up at the end of the first day, and were careful with the landscape. The roof looks great and they did a great job at matching the remaining shingles. The clean-up at the end of the project was spotless. We would not hesitate to use this company again for ANY project. First class outfit and a real find among the many contractors out there. Unqualified satisfaction.

We knew we were dealing with professionals from the moment we contacted KLA Construction! Fred Williams, the Operations Manager at KLA Construction, arrived on time for our inital appointment and covered everything in detail, and included several additional trips to give us advise on things we might want to do on our own to save money as well as to bring us samples of products to help us in making a decision on whether we would be using KLA Construction for our Project. Fred was very friendly and professional, extremely informative and did not pressure us in the least. When all of the estimates came back from our list of Contractors, KLA Construction was in the same ball-park as the rest of the contractors, however, KLA's bid also included taking care of all of the permits and drawings. During all of our meetings with KLA, Fred made sure to inform us that if we would be selecting KLA that there would be a considerable delay in starting our project due to the high volume of construction work currently being undertaken in our area (our Tri-State area had been hit hard with a severe hail storm which made finding a good, reputable contractor more challenging, meaning we would have to wait to start our project if we wanted someone other than the "fly-by-night" out-of-state contractors that were showing up in our area). After signing with KLA, Jim Johnson, the Project Manager, and Buddy Pevarnik, the Senior Lead Carpenter met with us to discuss our Project. Both Jim and Buddy were friendly and professional and answered all of our questions. Jim worked with us to make sure all of the drawings were to our satisfaction, and Buddy worked with us almost daily throughout the Project The Contract Proposal was very detailed and informative, and included individual line items in the scope of the work, allowances, payment schedule, and product warranties, as well as information on change work orders or add-ons. There were never any "surprises" for additional fees. The Project started in late December and the crew worked around the snow, rain and cold temperatures to complete the job on time. The crew, supervised by Royce, was also friendly and professional. During the construction, we had several add-ons that were quickly incorprated into the work schedule, and Buddy and Royce were supportive and accomodating when we made changes. At the completion of the work, everything was cleaned up to our satisfaction. We are extremely pleased with KLA Construction's work and have had numerous friends and neighbors comment on how great our house looks, and that it actually looks like we have a brand new home. We highly recommend KLA Construction.
Description of Work: Roof replacement including addition of ridge vent and removal of existing turtle-back vents with roof patching. New vinyl siding with insulation and Tyvek house wrap. Installation of lighting and electrical outlets. New railings, stairs, covered posts and beams, roof and lighting on back porch. Installation of frost-free spigot. The crew showed up daily and completely cleaned up the mess before they left. The only real problem was a break in the schedule. He was to be gone one week and left for three. We were waiting one week for the counter to be manufactured but it was 3 weeks before it was installed. (That break allowed us time to take a Florida vacation to recover from the construction chaos.) I had several requests during the project and Pat addressed every one of them without complaining (atleast to me). lol Any step of the process that I had concerns about were addressed before they left. On one occassion I used the dishwasher when I was asked not to. That created a small flood but when I called Pat's house his wife sent help immediately. It was 9:00 p.m. and they showed up in minutes. They did a great job and I LOVE the new kitchen and bathroom.
Description of Work: Pat installed a comlete kitchen, including electrical, lighting, flooring, cabinets, plumbing, applliances, and hardware. He also tiled the backsplash and wall tile in the bathroom.

We ordered a SunSetter Awning from KLA Construction in late June. About 3 weeks later, it was installed by the company's employees. While our awning is serviceable, we had some concerns after it was installed. We were told that although the awning is right over our back door, there was room for it to clear the door without any problem. In fact, when the awning is retracted, the front edge that hangs down does not clear the back door and the corner of our screen door scrapes against it every time we open or shut it. The installer actually told us to just put some black electrical tape over the corner of our door so the scraping would not damage the awning. We were offered three options to fix this, but it would have been totally at our expense. The one fix that would take care of the issue cost over $600. Our feeling was that during the initial sales visit, our situation was not studied carefully enough, and that KLA should bear at least some of the cost for the fix. After some phone calls and discussion back and forth, we were told KLA would not cover a portion of any fixes. As a next step, we wrote an email to the representative to indicate our feelings and after four plus weeks, we received absolutely no response. After leaving 2 messages over 4 days via phone, we finally heard from the representative that KLA's position was unchanged. We had a second concern about how far we were shown the awning would extend by the salesperson demonstrating where it would extend. While we believe we were given inaccurate information in this instance also, we can't prove we were shown something that was not accurate. Regardless, we feel the first issue is clearly the result of a less-than-careful assessment of our set-up, and there is no question that we were told that the awning would clear the door. We are disappointed not only with KLA's unwillingness to accept some responsibility, but their lack of a timely response when we took the time to write a letter regarding our concern. We question whether we would have heard anything had we not called back. We are disappointed with how they handled the situation and our concern.
Description of Work: A retractable SunSetter awning was purchased from KLA and installed by them.

They did not seem interested in doing the work, since there was a large amount of work currently being done in the area. The only thing I would point out is they only interested in large amount of work, big homes only. I would use them in the future.
Description of Work: I used KLM Construction to get a quote to put on a new roof and new siding on the garage and house.

From the start we could tell we were dealing with an extremely professional company. They were on time for all appointments and did a complete review of the work we wanted and offered suggestions when we were unsure of something. The estimator, who is also a lead carpenter, was very friendly and knowledgable. After taking measurements he made an appointment to return with the estimate. The estimate was detailed and complete, including every step of the project, copies of the company's insurance and payment schedule. Any additional work was added in the same clear detailed fashion. The outlets and gutter guards were addtional work added after the initial estimate. The workmanship was excellent from start to finish and we found very little debris after the job was complete. The few questions or concerns we had during the project were handle immediately. During the project, the lead carpenter realized that to properly extend the porch roof, the porch ceiling needed to be replaced. Since this was not part of the original estimate, KLA did this work at no addtional charge.
Description of Work: KLA extended the roof on all 7 sides of my house (main roof and roof over family room) by cutting into the existing roof and building the eves into the roof. Other contractors wanted to just nail the extentions into the joyces. Of course, they also replaced the old shingles and installed new gutters and downspouts. They also installed 2 outdoor outlets and gutter guards.

We purchased a 9-foot Sliding Patio Door from Pella Window & Door at a purchase price of $6869.00 which included installation. Pella contracted the work to KLA Construction, Inc. We were contacted by Pella when the door arrived and we set a date for its installation. KLA arrived on site on the agreed time and date. They removed the existing 9-foot patio door and all associated debris. They installed the new 9-foot Pella Sliding Patio Door, shimmed and sealed it. They install the exterior trim and flashing. They install the interior molding. They explained the operation of the various components of the door. They asked if we were satisfied. They left the job site.
Description of Work: KLA was the contractor sent by Pella to install the patio door we purchased. KLA Construction, Inc. removed the existing door and removed all debris associated with it. They installed the new patio door. They sealed and refinished the exterior flashing and trim. They finished the inside with the old moulding which we had requested. The job site was thoroughly cleaned up. In our opinion, they did a professional job. The lead mechanic explained the various components on the door and its operation. After asking us if we were satisfied, which we were, they left.

I really liked the employees that came and did the work. They were here everyday on time for four weeks. They were very clean, professional and did an excellent job. I found it very interesting that not only did we have a lead carpenter for the job, but this carpenters boss would also stop in at least once a week and walk through the job to make sure we were happy and to see if he could answer any questions.
Description of Work: I hired them to renovate our basement.
