Sila Heating, Cooling, Plumbing and Electrical

I was impressed by the personable and informative customer service rep I spoke with who set up our appointment with their sales guy for our area, Matt. Matt was on time for our appointment and spent a couple hours reviewing our situation and discussing the changes that would be involved upgrading our system to higher efficiency including a different location for venting outside. He returned a few days later to present a list of options utilizing different efficiencies. We liked that he presented options of varying costs depending on the efficiencies and options we wanted. But when we saw the company's singular one page proposal that didn't detail the specifics of the install or warranties we were a bit flabbergasted. It was just a check list form for what in total would be an over $20,000 job that requiried construction and visual changes to our exterior. There was little in the way of specifics other than Model #s. I did get some specifics in email exchanges with Matt following our meeting. But there were some inconsistances versus their preprinted proposal and other proposals I'd received. And they were not offering to put all specifics in writing which made me feel uncomfortable. So in short, I was just having to work too hard to nail down the specifics of the job in writing versus a competitor which made me feel uncomfortable even though Sila's price was very good.

Last weekend I called because my oil furnace would not kick ON after an oil delivery. I called on a Saturday and asked for someone to come out and help me. I received a call back from a service technician 1.5 hours before I was told someone would be able to come out to a**** the problem, and he walked me through the steps over the phone to help me troubleshoot the problem. It ended up being air in my oil line, and it was an easy enough thing for me to do, but I wouldn't of had the slightest of idea of where or how to do it without him. He saved me time (because I was able to get my heat back on in 20 minutes, as opposed to the 45 minutes he was away from my house) and he saved me money (there was no charge). This is the second time that someone at Sila has been able to help me troubleshoot an easy problem over the phone (both being different problems). I have always appreciated their assistance, professionalism, and that I don't feel like they are just out to make a buck. They truly are there to help.

I bought one of the deals on Angie's List for a Heating or A/C inspection from Sila. Since we just bought our house in June and our first winter was quickly approaching I wanted to have someone out to make sure our furnace was up for the challenge. Kai (sp?) came out to the house and immediately went to work. I guess our heating system is a bit unconventional. It's a Hydro Air system and uses hot water from the boiler that runs through coils through which the furnace blows forced air. As the air runs over the coils it is heated and the air then goes through the duct work and to each of the rooms in the house. Anyway, unconventional as it may be, Kai had obviously seen this setup before since he was able to not only inspect it but also give me some pointers about how the whole systems works. He also went above and beyond the call of duty and took a quick look at the furnace, which I guess is typically a separate service cost from the boiler. He even gave me a couple quick tips for boosting the insulation and efficiency of my system. Throughout the process Kai was very thorough, efficient, and professional, which I appreciate. For the price I paid I more than got my money's worth and would definitely use Sila again.

This is my second time using Sila. Their employees are on time and knowledgeable about a/c and furnaces. The prices are reasonable and I will use them in the future.

It went very well. Everyone was on time and did exactly what they told me they would do. A good solid company.

Everything from the initial meeting with Mike to assess out system requirements to scheduling of inspections and work was handled efficiently and punctually. The nature of our system requires some fairly complex plumbing especially since the original 35+ year old unit was significantly larger than the replacement with a very different plumbing layout.. Silas's crew id a beautiful job and left us with a very clean and orderly install. We took advantage of two Angie's list coupons which saved us $500 in total. Definitely make sure to check for current coupons from if you are looking into a similar job.

Used Sila after getting a coupon from Angies List and saw they were rated well. I have an HVAC over 30 years old and try to maintenance seriously. Sila came out and cleaned and provided recommendations for improvements. They weren't pushy which was appreciated. I'd use them again.

They did a good job overall. At one point there was a mistake made on a drain from the AC unit that the supervisor caught on his inspection and fixed. They do push thier service plan which can ad about $1200 to the job, but are agreeable if it is declined. My only lingering complaing is that they left the slab that our old AC unit sat on sitting on the ground and it is too heavy for me to move it. Overally, though, very professional and responsive.

I made an appointment with Sila because of some water leakage from my furnace. It wasn't an urgent issue, but they were able to send someone out the very next day. The service technician was on-time and very courteous. The problem turned out to be a broken condensate pump which needed replacing. I was pleasantly surprised that the repair tech had the necessary parts on-hand and was able to replace the pump in under 30 minutes. My only issue was that the price seemed pretty steep for the repair. A new condensate pump isn't more than $100 online, but the part & labor cost about $380 (and like I said before, it didn't take long to replace). With the base $119 charge for sending someone out, the total cost added up to almost $500. I was hoping with that kind of charge, the technician would've at least done some light inspection & maintenance of the unit, but as far as I could tell, all he did was diagnose the issue and replace the pump.

They were very professional. Initially we ran into a snag as far as installing. The placement of the heater was not going to be appropriate, but I can honestly say they worked very hard. The supervisor that came out for the install went back to the office and within two days the issue was resolved. They found a way to get around me spending even more money to finish the job. I think they did an excellent job and they were neat. I have not had any problems with the heater thus far.

I had an emergency with my oil furnace, a 30 year old monster of a thing. A technician was dispatched immediately, and I called around 11AM on no other day than New Year's Eve! The tech arrived very fast, about 1 1/2 hours after my call. He took 20 minutes to inspect and diagnose, and he explained it to me in layman's terms. There were three parts to replace, the technician showed me what they do and why they must be replaced. He then called in for parts, and Sila had a second individual pick up parts and bring them to the house for immediate installation. I was not charged some emergency or rush fee, and everything was exactly as the estimate given. The tech left the house ~3h after he arrived. Very friendly and professional, gave me some good tips about maintenance and such. A real pleasure, and he did great work. He left behind a functioning furnace with new parts.

The contractor was prompt, knowledgeable and very clear. I ended up purchasing a new system and was credited the $59 tune up price towards the purchase. Very easy to do business with.

We had been occasionally smelling a whiff of natural gas. On 3/13 I called them; they came the next day. They found several leaks in the gas piping, at old valves and unions that are now out-of-code. They replaced them. They also found a leak from behind the stove, at the gas feed, and weren't sure if we'd have to call Sears to fix it, but they found that the connection was a half-turn loose and took care of it. They said maybe it was due to the earthquake of 8/23/2011. We have had no smell of gas since then.

Chris, the salesman, was a good guy. On the morning of the job the crew arrived early and Chris stopped by too. He told us he would stop back before the job was done.The crew got to work and all seemed to go fine. There were some communication issues as none of the crew members spoke very good English. One strange thing: the crew not only used the bathroom without asking (absolutely forgivable) but they left urine on the toilet and on the floor around the toilet. They also shut off the water without telling us (we were home). When the crew was done they left without going over the work they had done. Chris did not return that day. I checked the work and noticed that the job was not complete--they didn't seal the ducts; I contacted Chris and left a message that I would like him to walk me through the job. He called back and we discussed that the job was incomplete. Within one week a crew returned and finished the job.

The Sila technician was friendly and helpful. We learned that the furnace was at least 40 years old and that only one of its parts was still available to be replaced in the event of a malfunction. We were then able to make an informed decision that it was time to replace it!

Sila tech came out on a Saturday to diagnose problem. Tech thought it was a bad control board and had to order the part. The Part arrived on the following Monday and a different tech came out that same day to replace defective part. This Tech took the time to look over the boiler and re-diagnose the issue. He was very courteous and professional. He thought he saw an additional problem and took steps to fix issue so the new control board would not go bad. Boiler was working when Tech left. Soon after, I left for work and did not get back to the (unoccupied) house until 48 hours later. When I got back to the house on Wednesday, I turned up the heat. 20 min later the Boiler stopped working. I called Sila on Thursday to inform them that the problem is still not fixed. I spoke with Jim Connolly. He was very helpful and professional. Friday, the original tech came out again and said he wouldhave to re-order the part. He also tried to re-diagnose the issue to find out why the new control board stopped working. After consulting with another tech over the phone, he was unable to figure out what caused both the old and new control boards to stop working. He then proceeded to recommend that I get a new configuration for my zoned heating and that it would most likely fix my problem. The new configuration would cost and additional $1,500 dollars. After tech left, I researched my current zoned heating configuration. The setup was correct and identical to the diagrams I found on the Taco's website (parts manufacturer). I called Sila and complained about the situation and about the recommendation of replacing my setup because the tech couldn?t figure out the problem. Jim Connolly was once again polite and professional; he transferred me to another person in Sila who told me that she would send out the Service Manager and experienced tech to troubleshoot the issue in 5 days (the day after Christmas). 5 days later, a different Tech named Brian was at my door (without the control board and no Service Manager). He too, was polite and professional. He troubleshot the problem and managed to fix the issue with the spare parts I had laying around and without replacing the control board (again). THANK YOU BRIAN! The problem was a bad Zone Head pulling too much current through the control board, effectively shutting down the board.

Very professional from the start. I took advantage of the 59.00 special through Angie's List for a Furnace cleaning and check. Sila called me and verified that we wanted the cleaning. I gave them the address and the tenant's name and phone contact. This is a rental for me. They showed up when Sila and my tenant agreed upon. He did the check and reported back to me that I will need another furnace as the heat exchanger has a big crack in it. Since this was an original furnace, I expected to having to replace it. Everything went just as I expected. They were prompt, polite and thorough.

Unfortunately, I was laid off a month after they came to perform the service and money became extremely tight. They were very kind and worked with me so that I could pay off the bill as money came in. I think they understood that I wanted to pay the bill, but was just unable to in one large sum. I would highly recommend them for any work, and once I do finally find a job, I will be using them for heating service contracts every year, as well as anything that might go wrong in the future (but my heater has worked like a charm for a year since they fixed it). I should note that I didn't just run down the list and give all A's without thinking about each experience. I gave A's because for each experience I truly feel that this is an "A" company, across the board.

My girlfriend bought a house in 2010 and had never had her central air conditioner serviced. I bought her this as a gift. Making the appointment was easy and the company representative was very accommodating. The technician arrived on time, was very thorough and professional. He did an inspection the unit inside the basement and outside the house. He explained in detail what he was going to do. He didn't find anything wrong with the unit which made us very happy. He mentioned Silas offers a service agreement for purchase but there was no high pressure sales pitch to buy it. Overall, we were very pleased with the company and would use them again.

Couldn't complain except for the price.

our Upon first turning on our heater for the season, we discovered that it did not work. I checked the basic stuff myself - pilot light, gas line, etc. We called this company to come out and take a look. I do give them A+ for service as they came out the next morning. My wife was home alone and did not have heat so it was great that they came out quickly. The tech that was sent out was a young gentlemen who began troubleshooting and replacing parts. After an hour and a half, my wife was given a bill for 450 dollars and still no working heat. The service tech stated that he needed to order additional parts and could come back the next week. We were charged WELL beyond a reasonable amount for an ignitor which we discovered later was not needed. Discouraged, we turned to a close friend of ours who also works as an HVAC tech. He came over Saturday morning and within 15 minutes discovered a bees nest in the outlet pipe and was causing the unit not to turn on. In all 20 minutes later he had our heat up and running with NO parts needed. I did speak to a service manager after this call and agreed to reduce the rate. Needless to say I won't be calling again.
