Sila Heating, Cooling, Plumbing and Electrical

After doing some research on Angie's List I decided to call Sila out because I was planning to replace my HVAC system. I called about 10am to request an estimate and they were able to send someone out about 1pm. John arrived on time and preceded to talk with me about why I thought I needed a new system and this was before he looked at my system. He explained to me that people have different reason for buying new systems and wanted to know what my motivation was. I explained to him that my system was running fine, as much as I could tell and I just wanted to be proactive because I recently moved. So John took some time looking over the system, indoor and outdoor units and told me my system appeared to be in good working order. He went on to even tell me how old each unit (heat and A/C) was, something that I could not determine prior to him explaining to me how to read the serial numbers that contained the manufactured year. I was completley surprised by his honesty. John told me a better suggestion was to consider a maintenance plan to keep the unit running in tip top shape. I am so pleased with Sila that I think I have found my HVAC company for years to come.......I am a bit worried that John may have set the bar so high with his excellent customer service and wonderful people skills as well as his expert understanding of HVAC that no one else can compare ;)

We hired Sila to fix issues we were having after another company installed a new heater/ac unit in our house. Sila was very professional and explained everything that needed to be done in great detail. The were prompt and Steve has continued to answer any questions we have on the unit even though they did not sell it to us. Would use them again and highly recommend them.

We called the gas company and they made the necessary adjustments.

I was pretty satisfied. The guy came, checked but a month later I have to get a new whole boiler. They didn't indicate that to me. When he came I was satisfied with the service.

Our heater stopped working over a weekend. We waited until Tuesday for another company only to have them cancel Tuesday late morning. Sila picked up the phone on the first call and someone came to the house 2 hours later. The service man was courteous and considerate (wore shoe covers). It turned out one piece wAs broken which the man had on his truck. 30 minutes later our heater was working! I cannot say enough good things about this encounter; especially in contrast to other experiences on the past. Hopefully we won't have any more problems but if we do I will call Sila immediately.

He did an inspection and also replaced a motor part in the unit. That cost an additional $280. He advised us to replace the part and did not force it on us. Overall, he did a good job. They even called an hour before their window to see if they could come early.

It's a couple of years ago and it was a good experience. I didn't have any issues because the scheduling was easy. They were really professional and did a good job. It's pretty good.

It was really good. They were fine. They were very professional and thorough. For pricing, I really didn't have too much of a basis of comparison but I think it was fair.

They did it all in one day. They didn’t have to do any repairs while they were there. It turned out very well.

The tech was very nice and arrived on time. He helpfully showed me where the filter is located on the unit but unfortunately did not change it himself. The service was fine though I didn't care for the sales pitch for their servicing plan at the end.

They knew enough to replace a unique part on this hybrid burner. service man was very professional, answer many questions. spent 3 hours to do cleaning. They were the best option for us given our Glenmoore Address.

We live in a 100+ year old house with radiators so there was no existing duct work when original central a/c was installed. We did not own the house then, and we were never happy with the a/c as installed. It was time for a new system and SILA is one of the 2 firms that have expertise in this area as far as we know. They made a number of modifications to the duct work and guaranteed that central a/c will work perfectly now...have to wait for the summer to confirm that. They were professional and prompt.

We had a CO monitor go off and Sila came out to diagnose the problem on a Saturday. They found that we had a cracked heat exchange and the heater needed to be replaced. Our service tech (Dan) made some recommendations for installing a new gas furnace and increase the return air volume. I was happy with the suggestions. Because this was a no-heat situation, Sila was able to schedule our install for two days later (Monday). The install technician was very conscientious and wore boot covers in the clean areas of the house. Sila came back a few days later to confirm the install went well. I was very pleased with Sila that they were able to prioritize my install over others when I didn't have any heat. I wish I had more time to look for competitive quotes since I thought the price was a little high, but I valued their quick response over the price.

It went well. The tech. was very professional. He explained everything he was going to do. He completed the work in a timely manner. He also made recommended maintenance for the future. He gave quick explanation of type of boiler for my home.

I own a condo with through-the-wall PTAC heat pumps. I did my research on what kinds of HVAC can be installed in different spaces and I spoke on the phone with SILA about my place and they told me that there are many options and that they should be able to find a way to help me. I then purchased the $300 coupon for $75 as I was sure that SILA would be able to help me. The guy that they sent out to me was age 26 at best and he was able to tell me in as short as 10 minutes that I can not install split ductless, mini-split or even high velocity in my home because they can't install a compressor in the PTAC cavity or in the vacant attic space. I called up SILA and spoke with the very friendly 'Graham' who told me that he would do some research - of which I have never heard from them again - except in the case for advertising to see if I am 'ready to hire'. I will never hire SILA due to their wasting of my time and resources. It's a sad day when companies get too big to care about the little jobs.

Prompt communication but unqualified to judge quality of work. Got the feeling an upsell or need for pricey additional service was inevitable. That was the case but this is not to say it wasn't justified based on the condition of our unit. Overall good experience.

In between the 1st and 2nd time they came out, I noticed that all four of my Lucite Folding Chairs were missing. As soon as I noticed that they were missing I asked the technicians, that were currently at my home, if they knew where my chairs were and they said that they didn't. I then called Sila and spoke to the general manager, Mike, and he said that he had very reliable technicians and that they're not thieves. After speaking with Mike I gave one of the technicians a print-out picture of my chairs and told him to give it to Mike, so he knew what they looked like. I have not heard from Mike or anyone else from Sila after doing this.

I should say that this was my first contact with Angie's List. I used it primarily because I felt that I would be dealt with in a fair and honest manner. The initial technician advised me to purchase an entirely new heating system & hot water heater. The total cost came to over $11,000, which I later found out is extremely exorbitant. My "financing" is tied to a Wells Fargo credit card which I am also unhappy about. Buyer beware!

Of course our 25 year old HVAC unit conked out during a heat wave...we had just moved into the home one year prior and were hoping to get a few years out of the unit, but that didn't work for us. I called Silas and they were able to get someone into our home extremely quickly. They rigged up the unit to get it to work but said we needed to replace the entire unit. A salesman came out several days later. While the products were great (Lennox), we were able to get the same product for about 2 thousand dollars cheaper! I do believe that if we had gone with Silas, they would have done a great installation and clearly would have given us a good product...but what made our decision was the "salesman pitch". I get that their job was to sell the product, but it really felt like a pitch...and made me worry about if this was really the product we needed. The other three companies we got estimates from recommended a less expensive/lower tier product saying our house was not large enough for the highest tier that Silas recommended. The gentleman did answer all of our questions and did not rush us during that process at all, but at the end wanted a decision right away. At that point we were still getting further estimates and wanted a couple of days to decide. He then told us that if we signed on for the service that evening he would give us a "trust" discount. At this point, I was really starting to feel like I might be getting scammed. It just didn't feel right. Over the next couple of days Silas called several times. I was not quick to get back to them so they had every right to call again but it was a little too much. I had my husband call back (I work in a hospital and have a hard time taking calls during the day) to say we would not be going with their service. Interestingly, last week I got a call again asking if we had found someone to do the service.
