I have used Sila for my heater maintenance since 2013. All levels of the company are very professional and informative. There is no waiting around as they provide curiosity calls when technicians are running late. Their price is competive and offer discounts on non-peak times. It was only a matter of time before our heater needed to be replaced. We took a chance and waited, but we were not able to get through the winter. The sales rep. went over all my options and didn't try to up sell me, actually recommended one of the lower end models for the AC. They also discovered the venting was not set-up properly and took steps to address it. They made additional recommendations to address other issues and were very respectful of our budget and didn't push the issue. The project manager spent extra time going through it with me and my husband and triple checked his work to ensure things would run smoothly the day of installation. They installed everything same day, as promised, and did a wonderful job cleaning up, it looked better than before they came! Came out for a follow-up inspection to ensure things were working correctly. I am very happy with the service I received from them and will hire again.

Old return pipes for one pipe steam system cracked on a joint, the problem is that some of the return was partially buried in newly waterproofed floor. I elected to replace the old iron pipes with copper ( more $ ). The leaking joint could not be repaired and trying to cut out the joint and replace with iron pipe was problematic . I have been using Sila for many years but have not yet done a review. About 6 years ago Sila (then Unique Indoor Comfort) installed a high velocity A/C system on the 1st and second floor, and a split system heat pump for my finished attic. About 3 years ago Slia replaced my steam boiler. I have Sila inspected and serviced all my HVAC systems in the spring (A/C) and fall (heating). I have been extremely please with there service and responsiveness. When they installed my A/C system there work was done within the quoted time and $, and done in a very clean manner. Both the boiler and leaking steam return pipes were emergency during the heating seasons and they came out quickly and fixed the issues within 24 hours. Each year the same technician has been doing the yearly servicing and inspection.

While he was here he did not have all the sizes for the filters so he used mine. I never saw or heard from them again. When I called to find out if they were going to replace the filters, they said it was not part of their service.
Description of Work: They were going to call before they arrived, but showed up before I was home and began working on the unit outside. The man who came told me that it was really two units and he would have to charge me. Then he told me I should by the full coverage for both and all of the parts and maintenance would be covered. I purchased the coverage but never received any other info regarding what was covered/ provided.

I had a very slow leak at a joint that needed to be re-soldered. I had the exact same problem in a different room two years ago, and the Sila technician that was dispatched fixed it for me on the spot for a little over $100. For this reason, I contacted Sila again and agreed to the "service fee" they require. The dispatcher called me a couple times to let me know that the tech. was running late, which I appreciated and took to be a sign that the tech was thorough. However, when the tech arrived he was more interested in looking at my furnace than assessing the problem for which he was dispatched. He asked me repeatedly: "how much do you want to invest in your heating system?" To which I replied "I just want to fix the leak." The tech prepared several "repair options" for me ranging from adding shut off valves on both sides of the boiler and moving the circulator and overflow reservoir from on side of the boiler the boiler to the other to just fixing the leak with variations between. He then asked me how much I thought it might cost to do all of this work. I was unwilling to play that game so I simply refused to venture a guess. At this point he asked me what I'd say if he said it'd be $15,000. I said I'd tell him that was too much. So he laid the estimates on me. The lowest estimate was $1,500 and the highest $6,000. The $1,500 estimate was to "fix pipes on second floor." I wrote a check and scheduled an appointment for the next day. After a brief cool down period I canceled the appointment, and contacted a master plumber that I looked up on Angie's list. He came out two days later, took one look at my problem, then looked at me and said $250? I agreed and he fixed it in under an hour. I relayed this story to Sila when they called to take my payment information for the "service call." They charged me $239 for consulting that amounted to "fix pipes on second floor." Both the dispatcher and customer service rep were nice despite not doing anything in the way of waiving the fee on the worthless "service call", and I understand that it was probably out of their control, but the tech (Sean) was so bad that I will NEVER use Sila again. [update]: Thanks for the response, I understand billing on technician time. My issue is that the technician made no effort to address the problem for which he was dispatched, and basically sold me an estimate that was 600% of the cost of having the job completed by one of your competitors. I also want to stress that the problem was resolved in about the same amount of time the technician took to look around at a relatively new heating system that was installed less than 4 years ago and invent solutions to non-existent problems. So it would appear to a person in my position that Sila dispatched a salesperson to address a plumbing issue.

We purchased the Seasonal Furnace or Boiler Tune-Up deal from Angies list for our 30+ year old furnace. The company sent out two technicians to perform the tune-up. Both were very professional and friendly and spent about an hour "tuning up" the furnace. I'm not 100% sure what they did - as they did not provide any type of report, but I heard a lot of vacuuming with a shop vac. There was a rattling noise coming from the blower that I was hoping they would be able to address, but was informed that there was nothing they could do about it. At the end of the "tune up" they stated that all looked OK based on the unit's age but recommended we get the unit replaced ASAP and immediately sent out a salesperson to quote for a replacement. The salesperson arrived within the hour, measured the house assessed the equipment and gave a very low-pressure "ballpark" rage estimate with an invitation to call him when we're ready for a more specific estimate. He was very friendly and pleasant to deal with. They do put you on a call list after your service, but the salespeople I've spoken to have been reasonably friendly and low-pressure. We have not yet decided to replace the furnace, but will consider Sila as an option when the time comes.

The service was okay, but at the end, the service attendant said that I needed something else, that was equivalent to the service call and then some. Not knowing if I really needed it or not, I relied on these people, and had the part put in. I think he was trying to sell me something, and it may have been perfectly legitimate, but I felt that they were looking for stuff that was okay, and I fell for it because I trusted them. The guy himself said that it may be a problem, or it may not be, it could go and it couldn't go, and that was my concern. I am not a technician, and I don't know if it was justified. I maintain the system, and I didn't think it was justified. He said it should be replaced according to the rules. He didn't show me the part and explain things, I just took his word for it. I will not use them again, and may Angie's List shouldn't either. The big deal included air conditioning check and maintenance. I have a second zone on the AC, and he charged me extra for it. I paid 451 Dollars instead of the 149 Dollars that I had paid for the big deal. I can't imagine using them again.

I was extremely impressed with the scheduling people and how quickly a technician was able to come out to fix my air conditioning unit. I really appreciated that they installed a temporary part to get the unit cooling until the proper part could be ordered and received. I thought that was great customer service. The only drawbacks to my experience were that I lived 25 miles from the Sila office, so my fees were high due to the long travel time. I was also a little concerned when the replacement part that was ordered was not the correct part and a second order had to be placed. Though, they never charged me for the additional trips and visits.
Description of Work: My air conditioning fan was running, but the unit was not running. Fortunately, I had my Sila checkup already scheduled for the next day. Great timing! The technician replaced 1 part on my A/C and it worked for a little while, but then the problem re-occured. They were extremely responsive and came out again and replaced another part, which they did not have in stock. They installed a temporary part to get the unit cooling, then had to come back twice to install the correct replacement part. (first part ordered was incorrect).

It was fine. We had used them in the past. We chose to go with this deal because it was significantly less than what they had offered to do for us when I called them. There were a couple of complications with a part when they took it off. It broke and so now, we need to replace it and it’s going to cost about $400. I think they were okay but I don’t know if we would have them do it again. They need to be careful when taking a part off a system and they need to clean off their mess that they make when they’re done. I didn’t supervise them and I think that if I were to use them in the future, I would stand and watch them do their job. The pricing was excellent.

Scheduling an appointment with Sila was seamless and they were very accomodating. Two technicians arrived, on time, to diagnose my heating issue and provide an estimate for the potential repairs needed. They seemed very knowledgable and spent time looking at my outside unit and my fan inside my house. They recommended replacing a valvue, costing $256. The informed me that in order to replace this valvue, they would need to spend several hours removing the unit from the wall in order to be able to reach the valvue and then replace the unit back in the wall. The total estimated cost for everything: $1500!! I had another heating company come in to diagnose and they had a very different outlook on the issue, stating that the system was working perfectly fine and that nothing needed to be replaced now or in the near future. They're diagnosis involved the thermostat and replaced that for $250. My system has been working amazingly well since them. If you're going to get an estimate from Sila, I recommend getting a second opinion before having any work completed on your unit.

The job went very well. A day or so after they began working there was a wintery storm coming in. They worked extra hours in order to have things up and running before it hit. We enjoyed our snow day in a warm house, thanks to them!

The original order was placed back in October 2013. I waited about a week or two after purchase through Angie's List to be contacted by the vendor. That didn't happen so I posted a question through Angie's List and received a response fairly quickly that someone would be contacting me within a few days. That didn't happen. I forgot about it, actually, until late January 2014 when we had a heavy snow, which reminded me about the unscheduled inspection. I called to schedule and was told that my name wasn't in the system. I was then scheduled to have the system inspected on February 4, 2014 at 8:00 AM. On that day, 8:00 AM came and went, and I called the company at around 8:30 or so. I was told that the technician would be there at 9:00 AM - there was a scheduling mix-up, which annoyed me since I arranged to arrive at work late that day; the scheduling conflict caused me to be late and to have to reschedule service again. We rescheduled for the following Tuesday at 8:00 AM. The technician arrived a few minutes late, but that wasn't a big deal. After arriving, he seemed to have no real idea why he was there, since he asked me why I asked for someone to come out. I explained the entire story to him about the inspection. I led him to the basement where he set up and I, regrettably, went back upstairs to check on things at work. He went in and out of my home several times over the next 45 minutes to an hour. Eventually, he asked me to come into the basement. When I got there, he showed me a crack in the front of the heat exchanger of my furnace, about 1.5 inches long. He explained that this was a safety issue and that it meant that the exchanger needed to be repaired or replaced. Given the age of the furnace, I was considering replacing the system soon in any case. However, earlier I stated that I "regrettably" went back upstairs. I say that because, based on how things transpired after this point, I have doubts about the presence of the crack before the technician arrived. I have zero proof that the tech did anything to cause the crack. However, had I stayed in the basement, I would have been able to observe the technician and would have seen the crack first-hand and I would have zero-doubts. In retrospect, I see that everything that happened after this point was nothing short of high-pressure scare tactics to get me to commit to buying a new furnace from Sila. While the crack did present a potential safety issue, there was no talk about "roll-out", which, after doing some quick research, I discovered is the primary danger in operating a unit with a crack in the heat exchanger. Had he done that, and either demonstrated how roll-out was occurring (which it wasn't), or had acknowledged that it wasn't occuring, I would have felt better about this discovery. The technician then said that it is standard procedure for a more senior technician to come out to verify his findings. I wasn't able to wait for another tech to arrive, because I had to go to work, so arrangements were made for the senior tech to come out that evening. When that "tech" arrived, I learned that he was really a sales rep who was there to provide pricing on a new furnace. Basically, I was fine with this, but I believe it was a bit disingenuous of the original tech to say that a more senior tech was coming when, in fact, it was a sale rep. The sales rep did an adequate job explaining how new furnaces are more efficient than mine. He went over the duct work and spoke about how the existing return ducts were too small. He went around to all the rooms and performed rough measurements of each room. No explanation was given as to the size of the unit I needed. He simply went over the various options like two-stage burners, variable-speed fans, and high-efficiency units. No talk about btu's, seer rating, etc. He just pointed me to some pictures in his book of some 80%, 95%, and 96% units and their cost. When I narrowed down the choice to the only option that gave me features I liked at a price I could handle, he asked when I would like the install to be done. I thought that was presumptuous of him and explained that I would be getting other quotes. He then said that since that was the case, he was going to wait to give me a written quote. I told him that I planned to have a couple other contractors in later that week and over the weekend and that I would be making a decision about a week. He left his card. Having spoken to two other contractors, I see that my experience with Sila was the least-informative and the most risky. The sales rep wanted me to essentially spend over $5,000 for a furnace based on a hand-shake (nothing in writing). There was very little consultation about the specifics of what could and should be done to existing ductwork and accessories, like an existing humidfier. Not once did he attempt to present an affordable case for replacing both the furnace and the AC unit, which is as old as the furnace. Overall, it seems that the $99 deal was really just a pretense for getting into my home and finding a reason to sell me a new furnace. I feel that the sales rep was relatively inexperienced and didn't want to work very hard to win me over as a customer. With all of the positive ratings on Angie's List, I had a much higher expectation of professionalism considering such a significant purchase. I was very disappointed with my experience.
Description of Work: The deal that I purchased was $99 for a full inspection of the heating and air conditioning system, with an added inspection of the water heater.
