This was a $69 big deal purchase. No, it did not work out. They could not solve the problem. I had to have somebody else to solve the problem. It was poor quality.

First: I will say I used SILA back in December and January; spending about $1,000 with them for annual maintenance and a repair of HVAC. The technician at the time - Chris - was great (I highly recommend you ask for him if you do use SILA). It's Chris A. Then on May 27th, a "Joe G" came to troubleshoot two NESTs 3rd Gen's that I had installed in October by an electrician; they worked great throughout the winter, but I could not get them to work with AC (this was in May when it started to get hot). Joe G arrived on time; but once here he criticized the NESTs products to no end; saying everyone is complaining about them; he consistently said they were highly inferior products. Then he tried to troubleshoot and couldn't figure it out; he then said my system wiring was bad. On NEST 1, he could attempt a solution for $70. I said fine. He spent 2 minutes on switching a wire, and then said, nope, failed, nothing more he could do. On NEST 2, he said it would take over 3-4 hours to get the wiring on that one done. I asked if he at least had other thermostats he could install, and the ONLY one he carries in his truck is this Honeywell that is $500 a piece !! part/labor to install. I said no, i'm not interested; he charged me $150 for a completely failed visit. Considering I spent $700 back in January I would have at least expected the $70 to move a wire be waived (given that it failed and literally took 2 minutes!!!). I was waiting until today to write this review, as I brought in East Coast Comfort to look at both NESTS. The technician within 20-25 minutes troubleshooted the problem. He also tripped the system so that I actually have AIR ! in the short term, while they order two parts to implement the permanent fix. I was charged $80. for this vist; it was fantastic. Reasonable, with a short term and permanent fix (and this is the very first time East Coast ever came here). SILA I had used before and was on the way to become a permanent customer. I'm glad I did not. I'm very disappointed by the lack of professionalism this one technician at SILA portrayed. To make things worse, on the SILA "work performed" tagged to my system the tech wrote: "Nest thermostat not working; customer did not want to repair or replace". I was left with NO AIR...willing to do anything to get the NESTs working, and this is what he writes on the tag. Sure, I did not want to replace what is a great product (NEST) with a $500 honeywell, when he couldn't even tell me what was wrong with the situation! I would suggest you have BOTH companies come out for any repair work and decide on yourself; but the difference between SILA & East Cost (today) was night/day. I have AIR! I have a solution/fix. It's awesome. And NEST is a fantastic product. SILA - you should not criticize products like this, and then try to sell a $500/unit honeywell without offering solutions to customers.
Description of Work: Requested troubleshooting of two NEST (3rd Gen) thermostats I had installed in October by an electrician; provider did absolutely nothing.

I called to have a consultation at-home scheduled. A lady informed me she'd reach back out to me when we knew who could assist. Instead, she called me back and gave me a "ballpark" figure of $21,000-$31,000. If you're wondering for what services, the only thing I told them was I needed new duct work in a 2 story house with basement and an AC. It's impossible to make an accurate quote without seeing the site and this ballpark range was WAY outside the actual cost, which can be as easy as $6-8k for an AC unit, duct work install, 2 supply units and 2 returns. They also continued to assess the option of using existing duct work knowing it was not up to code. Give me a break.. Would not recommend.
Description of Work: They gave me an absolutely bogus ball park estimate price.

When they got here, they let us know that the deal was per compressor, so they honored the big deal price for the second. Work was done quickly. In addition, we had a sporadic problem that they provided an oral estimate to address (would be billed hourly). We'll be using them for that work.

The tech was knowledgeable, courteous and extremely helpful. However beware the upsell and the ala carte pricing of this company. I purchased a service contract from them only to find out that it did not cover the entire HVAC system when summer rolled around. I was upset and I was treated quite condescendingly on the telephone. As previous reviewers have noted, this company is very interested in selling you the most expensive options and plans. It leaves the customer with a very bad taste in their mouth. At least they were willing to cancel my service contract. To be fair, they stuck to what they claimed was the letter of their contract, but any experience that leaves a customer feeling ripped off is not good. Overall I can recommend their repair tech but not any of the other services that this company provides.

Originally, I had scheduled to meet with them twice with a no call no show. I found out later that the guy had tried to leave me a voicemail, but my voicemail is not operational at the moment. They said that they would finally come out when the weather got warmer. I had to take off work the first two times, and they did not show up. I had confirmed the appointment with them both times. They finally showed up without an appointment at 7:00 am, and woke me up. I agreed to wait until he serviced the system, of which he had to come inside to clean the filters/etc. The technician was very courteous and friendly, I just wish they would show up when I had an appointment scheduled instead. They added $25 onto the charge because there was a second Ductless that needed serviced, and this was not on the original Big Deal Offer.

The service was great, everything was installed great and it worked very well after that. The did a second service visit after that for all the units in the house that I am less happy with. I spent a considerable amount of money on the first visit to install an air conditioning unit on the 3rd floor, it was well consulted, well thought out, and the 2nd visit for the servicing throughout the house, they wanted to charge a very large amount of money to do what was a very small repair. I was appalled by that. I asked why they wanted to charge $1000 for replacing a part, and it just wasn't sensible, and I just didn't understand it. There was no way a part could cost that much, and there was no way it would take that long to replace it that the price would be that bad. They dropped the price a little bit, but I had such a bad taste in my mouth from them that I haven't used them since. They know what they are doing, they are professional, and they know how to fix things, so they are going to fix it right, but I am a little questionable about their pricing policy. I think they may wind up being a very expensive solution. They brought the price down after I pointed out the price. In terms of them arriving, their dressing and putting on their little booties, they were professional, but they were not professional in terms of their pricing.

I have a problem with the fill valve on my furnace that will not allow me to refill my forced hot water heating system. This system was installed by an excellent plumber who worked with me for years through multiple houses/renovations and is now retired. The plumber from Sila was very insistent that the system was installed improperly without an air bleed valve. He was completely unwilling to fix the problem, which was a stuck fill valve, without doing some major work to the system that has worked for 14 years flawlessly. The heating system was permitted and inspected? Not properly installed - I don't think so. I got the distinct impression that he was trying to pad the job and make it more complicated than necessary. He was quite arrogant and over confident in his opinions. I sent him packing without doing any work and will find another plumber to fix the problem.

Dear Angie's List Customer, Thank you for taking the time to review our company and share your experience with Sila! We apologize that we did not leave you satisfied as that is not our intention. We have pulled your file to get a better understanding of the situation. After reviewing the service ticket, our technician was sent to your home regarding some issues with air in the system. When our technician arrived at your home, he did recommend to install an air elimination device to eliminate the noise and air coming through the system. I apologize that you felt that our technician was trying to "pad" the job because that is not the case. Our technicians are trained to provide a long term solution for each system and not a short band'aid fix. He did not want to provide a short term fix and have Sila be responsible for any noise complaint down the road. Thank you for taking your time to share this experience with us. If you would like to discus the matter more, feel free to call our general manager Jake McLoughlin at 781-438-4114 as he is aware of the whole situation. Best, The Sila Team

I got caught up in your bait and switch tactic. When your man came he went to my home for the air conditioner tuneup he asked me where the blower motor was. I took him up to where the heater was. Our heater is on the 2nd floor. He asked me how long we lived here and I told him 16 years . He said my heater is old and could have some problems. He asked me if I wanted him to check it out. He was here for the air conditioner and I didn't understand his interest in the heater. NOW I KNOW!!! I told him ok, check it out. I expected him to check the flame, blower motor, time the hearer going on and off. Things like that. Instead he tore my heater apart. He kept saying heaters this old old could have internal problems. He mentioned the heat exchanger in particular. I knew right then and there he was gonna find an expensive problem and he did. He actually climbed inside the heater. When he came out he told me my heat exchanger was cracked. Two cracks in fact. I asked him how much it would cost to repair it. He said about $3500.00. He then said why would you want to pay that kind of money on an heater as old as this. It would be like putting a new engine in a 16 year old car. He then said Lennox has a promotion going that I could get a new heater free if I had them install a new central air conditioner. All I had to do was pay installation charge. However he also said the free offer expires TODAY. Ain't I lucky. I told he I can't make a decision like that without talking it over with my wife. We are seniors and live on a pension and social security. He said the same offer tomorrow could cost as much as $12,000.00. Red flags were flying all over the place. He said they do have financing. All this and he hasn't even touched the air conditioner yet. I was actually scared my heater wouldn't work but it did. He put a sticker on my heater that said Danger which I promptly took off. Finally it was the air conditioners turn.

Sila appreciates your feedback as well as your review of our recent visit and tune-up performed on your air conditioner. We express regret that you did not have an exceptional experience with our company. During the safety inspection of the furnace, our technician found a crack in your heat exchanger, which might cause major issues in the future. If the manner in which our tech communicated this to you made you feel pressured into purchasing a new system, we sincerely apologize. The whole purpose behind performing the safety inspection is to ensure the unit meets safe operating standards, and in this case the breach in the heat exchanger is an issue. Our intent was simply to bring this to your attention and inform you that replacing your furnace was an option not pressure you in any way. Ultimately it is your decision on how to proceed. We can ensure you that we will utilize this experience as a learning tool to help improve our services that we provide our customers. We hope that you will consider giving us a second chance as your trusted HVAC service provider in the future. If you feel as though you have additional questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us. Thanks, Team Sila

It was not too good. They did some services for me but they were more into selling services. I wasn't crazy about them. They were not horrible but they just weren't as advertised. They kept on saying that I should buy their boiler and obviously, I didn't want to buy new boiler. They were more interested in selling me a new boiler than in getting what I had done fixed. I never liked that. They were good with their responsiveness.

Mr. [Member Name Removed], I apologize that you did not have a great experience with us. It looks like you purchased a $49 Gas Boiler Tune Up. Upon our arrival, your system was not functioning correctly. Unfortunately, we cannot perform a Tune Up on a system that is not fully operational. Our technician, discovered some issues that needed to be addressed with the system and presented you with the options to repair the issues. He also recommended replacing the boiler due to the age (per Peerless, the boiler is at least 30+ years old---possibly more). Our technician gave you both the option to repair and replace the system. He may have suggested replacing the unit more strongly because of the cost for the repairs vs. the cost for replacement. Our technician was only trying to give you his expert opinion on the best course of action for you as the customer. Our technicians understand that these decisions are not something that our customers deal with on a daily basis. We want to make sure that you are presented with all options and the reasons for our options. Thank you, Team Sila

Hi [Member Name Removed], Sila apologizes for the the way you feel about our services. However, we serviced your system back in September of 2014 and we are wondering what prompted a harsh review. According to our service notes, our expert technician performed a routine maintenance, as well as cleaned your fan and fan motor. The tech did not intend on up-selling you, but presented you with an option of replacing the return on your 11 year old system to perform at a higher efficiency, since it's approaching the average age of replacement. We hope you will consider using our services in the future and taking advantage of our $59 tune-up special during the warmer months. Thank you kindly, Team Sila

Poorly. They had to reschedule a couple of times because they couldn't get their oil specialist to get out on the original date. When he did finally show for the appointment he pretty much just said the whole system is mismatched and we should really get a new system. He did the routine maintenance but kept pushing me to look into a new system. Really just felt like he was going through the motions and he ended up leaving me with a list of all of the things wrong and an appointment with someone from their installation department to come out and quote me on a new unit. I will write a separate review on that, because that went rather poorly as well.

Sila apologizes for the way you feel about your experience with us. We had to reschedule your initial appointment due to our Oil Specialist becoming tied up on a job that extended into your time frame. We rescheduled with you for a 2-4pm time slot which you canceled because we were arriving at the end of that time frame, and it would have ran into your prior engagements. We finally went out to your home house and sent our most experienced Technician. Your home has a 22 year old Oil Furnace, a 19 year old fired water heater, and a 12 year old AC (all mismatched systems). The systems being mismatched could mean that the tonnage is off for each unit. The humidifier drains to the outside of the house which is the improper way to run the drain line (has the potential to freeze due to exposure to the elements). The return drop is undersized as well. The AC unit has specific size parameters for the return drop and per our Technician, your home has the increase size for his return drop. Our tech recommended replacement because the amount of work to correct the issues would be too costly considering the age of the systems. Once again, we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you, and we were keeping your home and budget in mind when presenting you with recommended options. Sila hopes you will considering using our services in the future when you need routine maintenance, or if you would like to replace your system(s). Kind Regards, Team Sila

Thank you for your review of our recent services. We truly appreciate the feedback to better our business with valued customers like you. According to our service notes, our technician discovered that the unit was not functioning upon arrival, although your initial call said that the system was running. Our tech couldn't perform a tune-up on a non-functioning system. There was an issue with water in the tank of the unit that was causing it not to ignite. Our tech charged an additional diagnostic fee for inspecting the unit. You may or may not consider the following unacceptable. I most certainly do: I responded to SILA's $59 tune-up offer for my air conditioning systems. With two systems, my cost would be $118. (I assumed that they would try to sell me a service contract, but that's not unreasonable.) The service techs were on time, polite, neat, etc. So far, so good. They inspected the equipment inside the house and all was fine. Then they inspected the condensers outside. They told me that the "capacitors" had grown weak and might become a problem. At my request, they showed me one of the readings, which seemed to support what they said. Again, so far, so good. I could see that the parts would be simple to replace. Just spade connectors and easily accessible and they were already on-site so no service call fee should apply. I asked how much it would cost to replace them. They said $250 each, for a total of $500. It seemed like a lot, but I did not want to have the experience of having them "go" at the height of the season. I told them to go ahead, but doubts lingered. So while they were getting the parts from the van, I put the part number of the component to be replaced into the search engine of my smart phone. The cost for the exact component I was being charged $250 to replace? $17.99, including free shipping from Amazon. I'm guessing SILA's wholesale cost is not more than $10. The components are so easy to install that in the few minutes it took me to check the Amazon price they were almost finished installing one of the two. I explained the information I had and was told that the office controls the price, not them. I told them to remove the new component and paid them for the work they had done. You do the math: If you think that the price they wanted to charge was fair then you'll probably love SILA. If, like me, you think it sounds unconscionable to charge $500 for the ten minute installation of $20 worth of parts, then I would proceed with great caution in using this company. I'd also advise keeping your smart phone handy.

What an outstanding experience!! I purchased the "Big Deal" offer when I saw it in an email from angies list. I thought this whole thing was too good to be true, there is currently another company offering the same deal for over two and a half times the price. I just so happen to be in construction and am very familiar with these heat pump A/C units and have two other units in other rooms of my home. Our home is a Cape Cod style built in 1952 without any duct work or central air. The mini split technique was by far the most economical and practical approach, and we Love it !! There is an old saying " you can't make a good deal with a bad guy" meaning even though the price fit our budget, I wanted to make sure the company was reputable. The reviews on angies list were outstanding. After having it installed and using it a few times I can confirm those outstanding reviews as a very happy customer. The installers were friendly, professional, neat and clean. We could not have had a better experience.

Provider was on time, professional and did an excellent job tuning up the generator. The serviceman was also very knowledgable about the generator and provided helpful tips on how to keep the generator running smoothly. Would definitely use this service again.

The servicemen diagnosed the problem in about ten minutes (I watched him). He said I needed a new switch, which he said he had on the truck. He also spent some time on the phone with someone to determine the age of my heater, although I had not asked him to do this. Then he tried to talk me into buying a new unit. When I asked for the cost of replacing the part, I think he said it was around $375 for everything (I forget the exact amount). I told him I was not sure if i wanted to repair the heater or not.. He gave me a bill for the service call for $275. I was very unhappy to find out that the $89.99 only covered the first fifteen minutes, he had been here about 45 minutes. I refused to pay over the $89.99 because I was not informed of any time overage charges. They did not bill me for the extra. Follow up: I bought the part at a heating supply store the next day for $20 and replaced it in two minutes.

first call was because heat pump was not running. he reset breaker at panel and in heat pump. diagnosed a need for a new unit and at the very least a new heat pad...would look up cost and get back, he made a big push a total new system and the newer parts would not fit the older (14 yrs) high efficiency unit In my home. the second tech also did not check the heat pad and said 'you would not see that' when I questioned him on seeing its condition. so I am uncomfortable with having a 50.00 thermostat and spending near 500.00 for their 2 visits. still need the part replaced I guess
Description of Work: reset breaker at panel and in heat pump serviced unit per special deal and replaced thermo stat per my request...
