The technician arrived on time and was very professional and pleasant. He did a pre-season cleaning and priming of my heater. He tagged all of the connections (i.e. gas line, electrical line) and kept me well informed throughout. He explained some of his concerns, and made me aware of some options available through his company.

Never heard back from them. They were supposed to send me a couple of quotes and options. I decided to hire somebody else. I guess they did not need my business.
Description of Work: I was looking to replace my 2 heaters and 2 Central air with an energy efficient or a geothermal system. I called, made an appointment, they came, spent a lot of time with me, and then i never heard back from them. They had my phone #, address and email, but was never contacted again.

The whole process was seamless. It was a pleasure to work Sila.
Description of Work: This is a follow up to service that Sila performed a couple of months ago. My report was that they did not follow through. After writing about my experience, I received a follow up phone call from Sila. They wanted to know what they could have done better. I appreciated the phone call, and their follow up. It left me with a feeling that they did care about their service. I let it go at that. But then I received another phone call from Sila, a man named Mike. He further explained, how important it was, that the issue be resolved, not with words but by action. He asked if I had any other HVAC service needed. I have a rental property, that did need service. They came out to a property to inspect the HVAC unit that had some odor issues when the AC was operating. The technician arrived on time, and performed an inspection. They also sent another senior technician to assist. They did find what they felt was the source of the problem. They completed the work, and Sila did not charge me, to make up for the last service call. I must say, I am very impressed with the Sila. They are a company that cares to get the job done right, and to take care of their customers. I would highly recommend them.

I walked into my basement to the smell of natural gas. I immediately called Philadelphia Gas Works, who dispatched a technician. The technician used his gas detector to isolate the leak at the heater's gas valve, and recommended I call a service provider. He warned me that unlike PGW, most technicians wouldn't have a has detector with them. I had used Sila for my A/C installation some weeks back, and thought to call them immediately. A technician (Kai) was in the area and arrived at my door in less than 20 minutes. Kai set right off to work, and to my surprise and relief he had a similar model of gas detector to the PGW tech's. He double-checked the PGW guy's work, and confirmed those results. Kai had a replacement valve in the van, and after a phone call he quoted me a price. Of course, I accepted: a gas leak is a serious issue. After less than 30 minutes of work, Kai was finished. Together, we double-checked his repairs with the gas detector. He tagged all of my gas valves for easier future identification and repair if need be. He offered me a service contract, which I declined, but he wasn't pushy about it. I was very satisfied with Sila's prompt and reassuring service.

I initially contacted Sila on Wednesday, Aug. 3rd in the late morning, and my phone intake was handled professionally and courteously. The intake coordinator promised to send someone (Ralph Frey) out on Friday, Aug. 5th. In the meantime, the company e-mailed me a short biosketch of Ralph with his photo so I might know who is coming to my home. I was very impressed with this small, but attentive, detail. Ralph, actually the project manager and not the installation specialist, quoted a price much higher than my budget range, but offered to send a second ductwork specialist to visit me the following Tuesday, Aug. 9th. Ralph showed up with the specialist, Dan. Dan's familiarity with the architecture of my home made me feel comfortable in his assessments, and Ralph was able to give me a quote much more in line with my budget (and competitively priced as well, based on some other estimates I got). I compared Sila's quote against a competitor, and their prices were spot-on. Dan's expertise (albeit, anecdotal) in the structure of my home was extremely helpful, as a competitor wanted to install a 2 ton unit. Dan told me that with a roof as flat as mine and the size of my rooms, a 2.5 ton would be ideal, as a 2 ton unit would be running all day. I erred on the side of comfort. The work was completed in a few hours on the following Friday, Aug. 12th, with no problems whatsoever. The system is working very well and I feel very comfortable in my home.
Description of Work: Installation of a Lennox 13ACX 2.5 ton condenser and coil Installed ductwork for a air return by using an existing (but non-functioning) vent Expanded the size of the above existing vent Upgraded electrical box to accommodate the new A/C Moved an existing (and in-the-way) power switch to create easy access to A/C / heating filter Upgraded manual (dial) thermostat to digital Honeywell Note: My home already had ventilation for a heating system, so Sila used the pre-existing ductwork for my A/C system. The capacity of these ducts were large enough to accommodate A/C without adjustment.

First rep, came out on Wednesday, July 26th. He claimed it was working fine, but that perhaps the thermostat was faulty. He said he did not have a way to test it, but that the unit seemed ok. Keep an eye on it. On July 27th, the unit failed again. We made a call, and we were told that they would send a "senior" technican. This fellow told us the following: The unit was shutting down, because the condensate pan was filling up. It needed a better way to run out the condensate. He said since the unit was in the attic, the job would be down by 2 men, and cost $2100.00 . He claimed he could do the work the very next day. I asked him to write up a proposal, and fax it to me. His response was " Well, I won't be in the office, until, next Monday". My response was, well then, we'll wait, just fax me the estimate. Monday came and went, and we never did get that estimate.

We were impressed that they did their own kind of Q and A. They came back and actually did a follow up visit with us, which was really nice. They already told us that they are going to call us back in 3 months to see if we are happy and to do their own questionnaire on their workmen, which we were impressed with. We were impressed with the amount of care they took. They put on little booties when they came into our house to do work. It wasn't really important to me but to my wife it made all the difference. They paid attention to the little details and every day when they were done working they would walk us through what they did. The guy walked us through exactly how they balanced the furnace in case we want to make minor adjustments, we can. We would absolutely use them again because of all those little things; it definitely made a difference.

From the day of Adam Kroungold's first visit until "job complete," the company was professional, prompt and orderly in every detail. They provided exactly what they promised, on budget and in a timely manner. It was a little more than we wanted to spend; but, one does generally get what they pay for ... here it was worth the extra dollars to get a job well done.
Description of Work: Installed a new high velocity, small duct central air conditioning system in our home. The work required intricate weaving of 3" diameter ducts thoughout an old house with plaster/lathe walls.

Serviceman arrived on time and went to work promptly. I had neglected to do this annual service prior to last heating season, though I bought the Angie's super deal coupon last year, so he spent a lot of time cleaning out the accumulated soot. Serviceman only mildly complained: "there was a lot of soot in the chimney!" Offered me a new annual service contract including parts and labor for burner problems at a discount from regular price, which I am considering.

I call their number and they are able to come the next day. The service person arrived on time and was very polite. He did a thorough exam of the whole system, explained to me what he's doing along the way. Found a small crack on one of the pipe holder, replaced it for me without charge. Didn't try to sell me on any other service. Will definitely use them again in the future.

My new central air unit (installed by a different contractor) started getting warm Tuesday night and by Wed morning it was 80 degrees inside my house and climbing. I called Sila Wednesday afternoon and had a very competent, professional conversation with the guy in the office. He explained that it would be $89 for the service call and then the technician would give me an estimate after he figured out the problem -- he also directed me to the $30 coupon on Angie's List. He told me he could send someone out the next morning, gave me a 2 hour window, and said that he'd call with 20 minutes notice. Around 10am I got the call, around 10:15 the tech showed up. He was polite, professional and bothered to show me what was wrong (clogged filter & dirt in the coils) and talked to me about how to keep the system running best. He proceeded to clean the coils & the condenser - the whole visit took a ltitle over an hour. By the time he was done, I was closing windows & turning off fans and thrilled to be back in the world of central air. It all couldn't have gone more smoothly.

On Friday night my central A/C unit stopped functioning. With the forecast being for temperatures in the high 90's all weekend, I figured on a less than enjoyable weekend. On Saturday morning, I looked in Angie's List and found good reports for Sila. I called at 8:30 AM and they told me that a technician would be out between 11:00-1:00. At 11:30 I received a call to say that the technician would be by shortly. After exchanging pleasantries, Tom went right to work. Within 5 minutes, he found the problem. He had the part in his truck and the A/C was up and running within minutes. However, Tom did not stop there. He cleaned the dirt out of the outside unit, and then checked the inside unit. He cleaned the filter and inspected the entire unit and it's pressures. Tom was very professional and customer friendly. I was so impressed with the entire operation that I am calling them on Monday to sign up for their yearly service contract. Would definitely recommend!

On one of the hottest days of the year, our central A/C stopped working around midnight... ugh!! The next morning I hit Angie's list from my iPhone...saw Sila's grade A rating...dialed them up...got a next day appointment. Greg was on time. Seriously, within 7 minutes he nailed the cause...had the part, ( which was not so common)......AC was back to cranking out coolness once more. End of story. Bravo Sila!

As outlined above, I couldn't be more happy with the service. Repairman was very courteous, knowledgeable, and took the time to explain what he was doing and why he was doing it. I can't think of anything negative with my experience.
Description of Work: I have two air conditioning systems one for upstairs and one for downstairs...neither were putting out cold air. My house is only 5 years old, but I have had problems with the AC every years since it was built. I did not know who to contact, and was really concerned with the horror stories you hear from people who just picked a name out of the phone book. I saw a commercial on TV about Angies List. I called and got prompt, efficient, and excellent service from Sila Heating and Air Conditioning. The repairman arrived within the time frame scheduled. He was very knowledgeable, courteous, and took the time to explain why I was having a problem. Within 1-1/2 hours he had both systems up and running. I am soo totally satisfied with Sila's and would highly recomend them. I know I will use them...I plan to sign-up for a service agreement, that will have them come out twice a year to check my AC and Heating. The service agreement covers cleaning system, all parts and labor, and ensures quick response in the case of an emergency. EXCELLE NT SERVICE.

I was very happy with them. My wife had called them out for cleaning the system and they found a crack in the interior and thought that it was a good idea to replace it and we agreed with them since it was 25 years old. We didn't shop around because we thought that they found the problem and gave us a very good price. They came in and finished the job and that was it. They showed up when they said they would. They were excellent. We want to call them back eventually and get a new air conditioning system put in.

I purchased an Angie's List Big Deal and they serviced my air conditioning units. They did a decent job on my new equipment (we have 3 years old pieces of equipment)cleaning, tuning up the equipment They also did work on older propane unit in an apartment in a barn on my propertyThis is where they did a unprofessional job and tried to rip me off.Service tech came to clean and tune up my propane heater.He did clean, but told us unit wasn't working and needed a new valve. Sila came out on substituent service call to replace valve and tech told us unit was not worth fixing and we should replace entire unit. We called in 2 additional different heating companies who found out the following:* Nothing wrong with valve. Unit was out of Propane* Unit was old, but functioning fine. Just needed some propane and duct tape to seal some air leaks I think SILA used the inexpensive clean and tune up Angie's Special to find older units and find ways to talk people into the real money makers (replacing units). They told us the unit was cracked in an area hard to view and that we had a health hazard. 2 independent service technicians proved this to be incorrect and just a scare technique to get people to do work that didn't need to be done. SILA also called me several times by phone to try to get us to schedule doing this work. These guys are a ripoff!

The service man came a little late, it was no biggie, I had time. The service man was very polite, apologized for being late, and started working. He took the units apart to clean and checked everything out, he made a few recommendations but didn't try to give me a hard sell on anything. I will definitely use them again. Requested and received an estimate for a new gas heating system and central air conditioning. The estimate that I received was prohibitively high; almost 2.5 times higher than the lowest estimate. Very expensive.
Description of Work: Received an estimated on a replacement heating and central air for a ranch that was almost 2.5 times higher than my selected contractor! Very expensive.

I was so pleased with the service provided by the technician, Frank, that I decided to purchase a heating/coolling service contract. Our AC was totally out and it took 2 days to get an appointment. The appointment was set for June 4, 2011 between 12-2pm and they never showed up. When we called at 2pm to see where they were, the dispatcher told us that they did show up and then they called us, both of which did not happen. We had been waiting for them to show up all day and our phone never rang. When I spoke with the manager he was insistent that they could not have made a mistake and he was not helpful in resolving the issue. He did not care that we got stood up and were still without AC, but would only defend his staff and their process. Based on the attitude of everyone we dealt with and the fact that the never showed up when they said they did, I would never do business with them.

The member is correct that an appointment was scheduled for Saturday June 4th. Although this was a Saturday service call, we do not charge overtime rates. The member scheduled an appointment for a building in Philadelphia and told us someone would be there to meet us. The member lives in Maryland and was not around on Saturday. We dispatched a technician to the member's property at 11:43am on Saturday and he arrived at 12:22pm. The technician rang the bell multiple times and we called the cell phone on file to alert someone that we were at the property. We received no response and had to send the technician to the next customer's house. Around 3:00pm the member called our office and spoke to our dispatcher assuring him that someone was at the house, that our technician never went to the home, and we were lying about the whole thing. We assured him that we would have loved to fix the problem but instead sent a technician out for over an hour of wasted time. After the member started to get very angry and tell me that he wanted to "blast" us on Angie's list, I decided that we were not going to return to the member's home. It is not a normal practice to refuse customers but it was in my opinion that this was a good decision because of how abusive the member was when we were on the telephone.

I had obtained one previous estimate to have central air installed in my smaller twin home. I felt that that estimate was a little high. I called Sila because their ad in the phone book mentioned that they specialized in older homes with radiator heating systems (no duct work). The sales man came and did a thorough measuring and assessing of my home. He explained how the system was slightly different than AC with the larger metal duct work. The cost was more in line with what I was able to afford. The installation took about 3 days. The work team (2 men) were very polite and industrious. I was very pleased with the results. I feel that I have a system that meets my home's needs and size, without having more system than I need. Since the installation was in January I had to wait until our recent first heat wave to use the new system. It is just marvelous. It does the job without too much noise and the vents are place in the ceiling in such a way that none of them blow directly on where anyone sits or sleeps. The flexible vent tubing does run through 2 of my small closets upstairs but that's fine. I suppose they could always be boxed in if you didn't want to see them. They installed the main unit up in my attic so that it didn't take up any basement space and so that the vents could be directed to the ceilings on each floor. I'm very pleased with the results and the company's professionalism.
