They were able to come in 3 days and install a new furnace in one day. About a week ago, I noticed one of the pipes was leaking. The next day a technician came out and replaced the elbow where the leak occurred. I am very happy with the service I received.
Description of Work: My 25 year old oil furnace has been problematic and I knew it needed to be replaced. Based on the angieslist reviews, I checked out Sila. Based on the reviews and the initial meeting, I decided to go with Sila.

The sales man , was polite was , but tried to sell the lowest brand for the highest price . Gave advise that was contradicted by all the other hvac contractors. Mentioned that I only need a 13 seer with out a variable blower. Mentioned the variable blowers wont be effective in cooling the 2nd floor of our house . Every other contractor came out checked the returns on the top floor and mentioned they might have agreed with him if we hadn't adequate returns. Would definitely NOT recommed them to anybodyWanted
Description of Work: Wanted to get a quote on replacing our dying heat pump , and also what would be an appropriate choice of the new heat pump to be replaced. We mentioned that we would be here for another 7 years and didn't want the top of the line and also not the bottom.

Tech came and was very courteous and professional, I have bamboo floors and he immediately put boot covers on. Tech fixed my condensate issue and performed schedule maintenance. He described a handful of the processes he was going through and identified any issues that were present with my system. Hands down the most professional contractor who has been through my house yet.
Description of Work: Scheduled a Service appointment for my 1 year old Gas Furnace Heating System. Had an issue with my condensate pump leaking and not working properly and was interested in setting up a service contract.

This company was absolutely fabulous, I wish every contractor had the same focus on quality and service. Every single person in the company I dealt with was very professional, courteous, respectful, and reliable. Their pricing was the lowest of all bids I received for exactly the same work and the same models of equipment to be installed. Work was completed quickly, and in accordance with the agreed schedule.

The work was done quickly and professionally. The rep then tried to sell a service policy. I told him that I was not interested and that was fine. I then received at least 3 follow-up calls from the office trying to again sell the service contract. The first two voice mail messages. On the 3rd one, I did answer the phone and told him that I was not interested. I then received a statement that I owed them $422.00 for Invoice #139090 of 10/6/11, which I never received. The statement was stamped "PAST DUE - PLEASE REMIT". When I called about it, I was transferred and then put on hold and then told that they would have to check on it and call me back. They did call back and said it was their mistake and I should ignore the bill. As said before, the actual work was done well and I have no problem with that. However, what happened after the work was finished was enough that I doubt that I will use this company again.
Description of Work: It was the Big Deal for furnace check-up.

Our boiler has been acting finicky for a while, and with the recent cold snap, turned off overnight and didn't turn back on until we manually reset it in the morning. The service tech from Sila came out, for a dispatch fee of $89, and fiddled with the aquastat and other components to get it working more consistently. We purchased a service contract for the year for $215, as he said the aquastat and thermopile are likely to need replacing soon, and possibly other components. As the contract also includes an annual maintenance servicing which we have bought separately for the past 2 years, it seemed the best course to take. The only bad thing I have to say about the experience is my continued disgust with paying a significant dispatch fee, which seems to be a common occurrence with heating repair and electricians. Evidently this fee would still apply had we elected to replace the system to the tune of $3000+. I understand it is a necessity to prevent spurious calls, but paying for someone to come out just to provide an estimate when other industries do not (construction, painters, landscaping, and movers, just to name a few) rankles. A minimum charge model would serve much the same protective purpose, while still providing a sense that I am paying for services actually rendered.
Description of Work: Came out to service our non-functional boiler. Performed maintenance on electronic components to get it working again. Ended up selling us a service contract.

The installation went great. They were extremely prompt and had more than adequate help for the job. The PM was there at the beginning, middle and end. Clean up was excellent and this was a major accomplishment considering all of the soot that was involved. If I had any issue it was with the fact that they used my sons weights to elevate my heater off the floor but no one asked my permission. They weren't being used by my son because he lived elsewhere but it still annoyed me a little. I never lodged a complaint because they really did an great job. I am going through my second winter and when that heater comes on, it scares the devil out of my cat but those radiators are sizzling within a matter of minutes. With my old heater, this same process would have taken at least a half hour and then only half of some of the radiators would heat up. My only regret is that I didn't replace the heater years ago. Even though old has gone up, with it burning so much more efficiently, I'm really breaking even. If the price of oil decreases, I might even be able to redo my entire basement to compliment my beautiful new heater. It is also a fraction of the size of my old one so I have more room. If I have no problems for the next 5 years, I'll rate this as "Excelent"

The technician was prompt and courteous. He wore shoe covers inside the house. He took time to explain how the furnaces operate, and what components he was cleaning. He also advised me that inexpensive replacement air filters work better than the more expensive types, because the inexpensive filters trap particulates while maintaining better airflow. This was an Angie's List Hot Deal, so the price was excellent. After the service, the technician offered me a service contract, but he did not get pushy. He did a great job.

My air conditioner stopped working in a very hot part of the summer, and two Sila representatives came out to check it out, charging me an $89 fee for them to come out. They looked at it for five minutes and said, "It's an old unit. You need to replace the whole thing. It will be $4500 because it's an AC-heater combo." That's all they said, and they refused to offer me any kind of alternative and insisted that it couldn't be fixed no matter what. I called another company for a second opinion, and that company fixed it for $550. Afterwards, I told them what Sila said to me, they said it was no big deal to fix and that Sila probably just wanted to get the big sale. I'm annoyed because Sila charged me $89 for nothing. It's like bringing your car to a mechanic for an oil change and being told that you need to replace the whole car. Ridiculous! I'll never use this company again, and I tell my neighbors not to use them.

Response from Sila Heating, Cooling, Plumbing and Electrical
We extend a sincere apology to the customer for any aggravation that might have resulted from our recommendations for his system. On July 26th one of our service technicians and a service manager inspected the system and felt it would make more sense to replace the current inefficient system with a new energy efficient system. We felt the high probability that his old equipment would continue to fail, would end up costing him more than the initial investment of replacing the system. While our employees did offer replacement as an option, they also offered to replace the malfunctioning motor. The customer expressed that he might be moving and did not wish to put any money into a new system at the time. We apologize for any miscommunication.

Great experience. They assigned a project manager who met with us initially, and stayed with the project until complete. They called in other resources as necessary to perform additional tests, make measurements, engineer the unit for the proper capabilities and options. Experts were called in to validate the findings before any work was done. A complete estimate was done in advance that outlined exactly the statement of work performed. The crew was professional, courteous, and completed the work on time and on budget. The basement was partitioned off with plastic to keep dust down. After Rip-out, technician confirmed findings by showing us all the issues with the old equipment and documenting with pictures before haul-away. Several additional outlets and breakers were added to make a more professional installation and more convenient locations for shutoffs. Full instructions were left with the unit. I was not home when they completed the work, but they reviewed operation with my wife, who did not fully understand, so they came back, and walked me through the process step by step, and provided additional documentation. All ductwork was exposed, sealed, and insulated to prevent further condensation (which originally caused the mold problem). Relocated thermostat to better location (more representative of temperature and necessary airflow) than original. Cleanup was good.
Description of Work: As a result of mold remediation, Sila took a professional, engineering approach to determining the source of the mold problem, and making a recommendation to replace the heat pump and insulate the ductwork. We had the original heat pump replaced about 10-12 years ago by our heater service guy, who is now out of business. Nice guy, but we discovered that the unit he installed, while at a good price, was what was on sale, and was not properly engineered for the square footage. The unit was way too big, and consequently, was pushing air too cold. The ductwork in our basement rec room was not properly insulated (sheets of exterior insulation were literally wired to the rafters to cover only the underside of the duct). When the rec room was finished, the contractor (not this one) made no attempt to further insulate that ductwork, and just framed over what was there, and covered it over with sheetrock. The basement had no airflow from the remainder of the house, so the conditioned cold air in the ductwork and the ambient temperature in the basement set up ideal conditions for condensation to form on the ductwork, then drip on the sheetrock and eventually mold. We had a parade of HVAC contractors that came out to look at our problem, and all had given estimates that ranged from a quick and dirty cursory fix to complete rip-out and replacement. My view of the others was that few really understood HOW to get to the root of the issue, and most wanted to give a quick estimate and move on to the next job. Most of these guys may have been very good at fixing and servicing existing units, but clearly had no engineering skills. Sila is the only one who took the time to dig in to the issue, find the actual source of the problem, and ENGINEER a solution.

Ok, until now with taking out the contract and finding out I was duped. The service technician asked that I take out a contract. They explained services outside of the contract, however additional fees applied. I feel deceived by the service. The practices were deceptive.
Description of Work: Received the service. Talked to the technician about radiator clean out and service for air conditioning. Was told that this could be done in a service contract. I took out the contract and called today 12/5/11 for the radiator service and was told the contract I have does not cover this and that service is extra. I feel duped and deceived. I specifically stated I wanted the radiator blow- out but did not need a contract for anything else. The technician specifically stated this the contract included this and it does not. I will NEVER use them again.

I can't say enough about every aspect of my experience with SILA for my gas furnace/AC system replacement. A little background... during a routine furnace service I was informed that my heat exchanger was punctured and I needed to have the unit replaced. So I put in my due diligence and over the next few days I solicited five different quotes from five local HVAC companies for a complete system replacement. John Smutko, the representative that came to inspect my system, was very easy to work with, knowledgeable, and extremely professional. After a thorough visit (which included a load analysis) SILA came in with a higher than average quote so I called John to let him know I'll most likely go with another company given the cost. I was pleasantly surprised at the extent to which John was able to work with me on finding a more affordable unit, and given my stringent system requirements, he was able to absorb a good chunk of the cost of the installation and after several rounds of negotiation was able to come down enough to beat all the other quotes (with the exception of the "one guy with a pickup truck"-type quote). The SILA installation team was friendly, efficient and clean. As far as I could tell they paid attention to detail and didn't cut any corners. After the system checkout at the end of the install I was confident that I made the right choice, especially given the excellent price. I highly recommend SILA for any of your HVAC needs.

. All of my contacts with Sila were friendly and helpful. They listened to my concerns and responded appropriately. Saki showed me the various tests he was doing, and stepped through his troubleshooting. Adam provided the details of the search for the parts. John walked through the various options for hte new furnace with my husband. Thanh, Paul and the rest of the installation team showed up on time, and the furnace was installed quickly. The installation included a furnace, whole-house humidifier and associated sump pump. We would definitely work with Sila again!
Description of Work: Our furnace did not turn on. We called for a diagnostic and possible repair. Sila sent Saki, who checked over all parts of the furnace. He identified several parts that needed replacement. He called in the repair details and the parts needed. Sila looked for the parts, and determined that they were not available (the furnace was too old and parts were no longer being made). We agreed to talk with a rep to understand the options for replacement. As a result, we had a new furnace installed. The installation was on time and smoothly executed.

I came to find Sila through one of Angie's list big deal. It was an offer to check and tune up my gas furnace for $79.00. I called on Wednesday to schedule and appointment was made for Friday. The scheduled time was 10:00- 12p. I recieved a call around (am stating the tech was finished at his other home and would it be ok if he came a little earlier than scheduled. I really appreciated that heads up phone call, having a newborn and 2 dogs to tend to before he arrived. When Frank arrived he was very professional. Immediately he put booties on his shoes to keep my house clean from whatever may be on his shoes. He checked and cleaned our gas furnace. He also gave me recommendations along with pricing on what needs to be fixed in the future. It was a very pleasurable experience!
Description of Work: Our gas furnace was checked and preventative maintenance was performed. All pipes and exhaust hoses were checked. Parts of furnace were cleaned , brushed, oiled and vacuumed. Boiler tested before and after maintenance to make sure all was well.

We have used this company since 2005 when we had them install two new high velocity A/C systems in our old house. Since then we have used them to service our A/C units, as well as our gas boiler at our old home. When we moved this year, we chose to again use them to service our A/C system at our new house. We stayed with them because we were pleased with the quality of work and customer serivce. So when the 50 year oil furnace kicked the bucket in late October in our new house, Sila was the first and only contractor we called. We had a proposal within a day. We chose a high end, high efficiency gas boiler which included an indirect water heater as well. They worked to get the crew out asap to get the work started. They provided us with space heaters since we had no heat. They worked on a Saturday to get the job done quicker. As in the past, they were professional, customer service oriented, and knew what they were doing. Everyone we dealt with including Adam, Randy, Dave, Dom, and Dan were professional and great to work with. When we asked to have the PVC drainage re-routed as was they had routed in a place we did not want, they came out right away an re-routed it. We we will use them again to update our A/C system next. They are more expensive, but you are paying for the assurance of getting the job done right, professionalism, and overall an better experience with less "stress". Worth the extra money...you get what you pay for.
Description of Work: Installed a new gas boiler and water heater.
