We do not have a service contract with this company, nor have we ever used any HVAC company since we moved in last summer.The central air petered out over a 2 day period, culminating in a hot, sweaty night for our kids and us. After looking at Angie's List overnight, I called Sila's "emergency line" at 6AM on the Fourth of July, and I got a call back within about an hour and a half. It wasn't really an "emergency" so the wait was fine. Frank called me back, asked me a few diagnostic questions, and let me know that he had 2 other calls but would be able to come out after them. He was able to come to our home sooner than expected. He was polite, professional, wore a uniform, and used shoe covers when entering our home. He asked a few more questions, and then proceeded to our outside unit, where he discovered that some mice had decided to reside inside part of our AC unit and had chewed through a wire, resulting in a capacitor component melting. He gave me a quote to replace the part (after testing the capacitor to see if it was still at all functional), and I went for it. He was very thorough, and explained to me everything he was doing and why he was doing it. I had questions about service contracts and he gave me detailed explanations and price quotes. Frank was professional, patient, and thorough, and made an outstanding first impression on me. I will absolutely be using them in the future, and since the service plan's annual fee is around $240 (and would have covered everything I paid $321 for today), I'll be signing up for that in short order. The fact that they were able to come out not only on a holiday, but so quickly, was particularly impressive to me. I will feel good knowing that I can rely on them in the future for any "emergencies" that may come my way. Thanks again Angie's List for giving a reliable recommendation for a very solid service provider.

I had contacted Sila through the Costco program in order to get an estimate on a new AC/Heater system. They came on time and took many notes and said the next week they would email me an estimate. I had told the estimator that I was unsure if I wanted to wait in order to replace my current system or do it now if financing was available. A week later when I had not received an estimate I called Sila. They said that the estimator was in a meeting and they put me through to his voicemail. I left a message saying please send me an estimate. The next day he still had not responded so I called again. The man said he would let him know. A few hours later I received a call asking if my wanting to have an estimate was an emergency since I wan't even going to replace my system until next year. He then said that prices change too much to give me a quote. Clearly if I called twice I wanted a current quote and still do not have an estimate. If a company cannot provide an estimate in a reasonable amount of time I do not feel confident that they could install an HVAC system in a reasonable amount of time or in an competent manner.

Sila was awesome. My a/c broke in the middle of 95 degree heat. I called Silas at about lunch time and they got someone out that evening by 5pm. By 6pm, a/c was up and running again. Office staff was great at keeping me updated, and technician was very friendly. I thought the price was a little high (in my experience service charges are usually waived if repair is done -- I think), but not outrageous. The prompt service made it worth it!

Sila was very punctual, honest, and I feel like I got a great value for my money. They were very respectful and courteous during all of my interactions with them.
Description of Work: Sila came to my home to fix my AC unit. We had a power surge in our condo and they checked everything to make sure that it was OK. With all of the heat problems, they came out immediately to help me out with the problem and arrived on time. I wasn't able to print the coupon off because printer problems, but they still honored the discount for me.

Our experience was very good. We originally scheduled a tune up because the A/C seemed to be petering out, but it was still working okay. Then it conked out entirely. We had one odd hiccup with scheduling -- we scheduled for a weekday and waited all morning but no one came. Finally we called them and they had no record of the appointment. That was bizarre, but they were very nice about it and scheduled someone to come out that Saturday bright and early. The man who came was terrific. He was a few minutes early, fixed the problem, did a tune-up as well, and was very friendly and polite. The best part is that he closed the backyard gate behind him, latched it, and put the bungee cord on it just the way it was when he arrived. (We are very careful about our dogs not getting out of the yard but often workers will leave the gate wide open.) I really appreciated that extra effort. Despite the weird scheduling issue, I would definitely use them again.

?I scheduled a visit with Sila in July, 2011 (my first experience with this company) to perform general service and air duct cleaning. The general service was performed along with a recommendation of some high cost changes to improve the efficiency of the A/C system. - When Sila servicemen arrived at my house, they determined that the attic access to the A/C was not large enough for the machinery used to clean the ducts. This could have been determined on the phone at the time I made the appointment. - I let them know there were people still sleeping in the house and upon learning that the duct cleaning could not take place, I encouraged further discussion on the matter to take place downstairs in order to prevent unnecessary noise. They continued the conversation in a high volume outside the bedroom doors. - I agreed to a service contract for A/C only after being told that I could fit in a covered service visit on the A/C before the contract expired the following July. Upon calling to set up a service appointment the following June before the current agreement expired, I was told that this would not be covered. If I renewed the contract, the service would be covered under the next service agreement. I?m not clear and did not ask why there would be coverage since the next service agreement commenced over a month into the future. I alerted the receiver of my phone call that I would not be renewing my contract due to the poor experience in my first visit and incorrect information I received upon setting up this subsequent visit which will cause me to incur unanticipated expense. The Sila person repeated that the service was not covered under the current contract and expressed no interest in understanding why I was dissatisfied with my experiences with them. - After their departure on the intial visit last year, I went into the room where my heater and hot water heater were and found that the servicemen had placed Sila stickers on the heater and hot water heater covering up the contact information of the companies that serviced them. The service agreement was for the A/C unit only. - After my recent call to set up an appointment before my contract expired, I faxed Sila's customer service contact a letter laying out the above and letting them know that I would be sharing this information in a review on Angies List. A week has passed, and no attempt was made to contact me. I have confirmation that they did receive my letter. The lack of interest in understanding my dissatisfaction can only lead me to conclude that this company is not concerned about customer service. The overall lack of professionalism was astounding.

They did the work in three weeks. They had schedules for coming out. They came out on time.

Total victory. Wonderful Connie in office arranged same day service. Office called within arrival time window to say they would be a few minutes late, but they were on their way. Ben and Brian who were polite & knowledgable explained the fix, explained time frame of things that may fail in the future. They did the work quickly and we were back to normal by bedtime. Angie's Coupon was honored. They may not be the cheapest, but it was a fair price and done quickly with professionalism. I Would Confidently Call Sila again.

I purchased an Angie's list coupon for an HVAC checkup and cleaning. The technician was on time and courteous, and went straight to work. About ten minutes later, he called me down to the basement to explain that I had a big problem - my furnace was corroded, leaking carbon monoxide, and he was required by law to shut it down. He was very apologetic and told me that Sila represented a number of HVAC manufacturers in different price ranges and that Sila offered several different financing options. He also told me that if I wound up purchasing an HVAC system (or just a furnace) Sila would credit the price of the Angie's list coupon to that purchase. Within an hour of the tech's departure, a Sila sales rep called me to discuss different options. After requesting quotes from several different HVAC reps, I eventually went with a different company. Sila's quote was fair and in the same price range as the company I eventually went with. All three of the other reps agreed when they looked at my system that the Sila rep was correct in his diagnosis. Based on my limited experience, I recommend Sila as an honest, reliable company, well-schooled in their field.

I took advantage of the offer they ran on Angie's list for a A/C tuneup, it was I believe $49. Scheduling was easy and the technician showed up on time. I had 2 units which was not covered by the $49, so he had to call it in. I was told they would honor the $49 for the one unit and that they were running their own special and the 2nd unit would be $119. My mistake here so I said that is fine. Would have been nice if they had given me the angies list price for the 2nd, but I should have bought 2.He gets to work on looking things over. The technician comes and gets me to show me that I had a conductor on my compressor that had a wire that had fried itself, probably from being loose. Now it gets interesting. He tells me that if they had to come out and fix it, it would be $300 + a service call of ~$80. If I wanted to sign up for their 1 year service contract, this repair as well as my additional A/C tuneup ($120) would be covered under that. How much for the service contract? $700! He says he isn't supposed to do that, since the issue was found before I had the service contract (but he is gonna do me a solid one here)I get some info on the conductor and told him to check everything else out and then I would decided. I jump online to find that I can get the part on Amazon for $15. It was then just a matter of disconnecting the power and connecting the various wires to the new conductor.I tell him what I found and that $300 to replace it is crazy. Basically they use those prices to get you to buy the service contract.....I told him to call his bosses and if they wanted to come up with a more reasonable price to fix it, then i might consider it. He comes back to tell me that they could not, if I wanted it fixed today and the service contract it would be $1000.Buh Bye. Got the part for $20, took me 45 minutes to replace it. They lost and future business from me and this review. But I don't think this company wants customers like me. They want people who can be "shocked" into buying worthless service contracts....Service guy was very nice and seemed competent, but today it is more about $'s and in that respect you failed miserably

I had also asked them to look at a small leak and see if the coolant needed to be charged. They identified a number of issues with the AC unit which we had suspected since it was not running as well and is 20+ years old. I requested they do the basic repairs needed to keep the unit running for now since we are looking to replace it in the future.

They have a very pleasant office staff but their salesman are not dependable at all. The receptionist called me and said that the salesman was in an accident and asked if I could set an appt for a later date. I set up a date and I went to meet him for my appointment. I showed up early and stayed about 45 minutes, he never showed. He apologized and was sincere so I made another appoinment with him directly for the following day at 10. I showed up 5 til 10 and stayed for about 15 minutes and he didn't show again. I called and spoke with a man and he said he would tell John Smutko (the sales rep) that I called. It was very disappointing interaction with this company.

Silas in King of Prussia was listed in Angie's List as a "top pic". Having read so many praising comments from other customers, I selected Silas to service the central A/C units that became faulty. Punctuality and courtesy were their strong points. I was not impressed by the final amount I paid. The price included the initial estimate ($49 for a trip by technician to diagnose the problem) and the actual work ($850 which included the parts + labors). They offered the extended contract for $399. I explained that it was the first time in 15 years that I needed the service, and I was willing to take the chance and not buy the extended contract. While they were working on the A/C unit replacing the control panel, one of the workers noticed a water heater (also 15 years-old) that showed the signs of leak. They proceeded to show me the problem and explained that perhaps the entire water heater needed to be replaced. They said they would call back later to give me the quote because the water heater specifications needed to be re-verified and to do this they would require time. They did call back later to give me the quote, which even I was able to see that it was overpriced. I went to another contractor, which told me the quote was overpriced and that gave me a much more reasonable quote. Given the significant difference in the initial quote (the difference was 40%), I chose the second contractor to do the water heater replacement. Based on my experience, I could not give an "A" or a "B" to Silas.

work was completed in a timely manner. The service man was very professional he arrived on time and began work immediately. He was very courteous and helpful. He updated my heater and a/c systems.
Description of Work: I just purchased a house that is 62 years old. I am finding out that maintenance has not been done and that many things are not up to present day code standards. Sila, service agent, Jeff, arrived on time and was very professional. He walked me through each step and explained eveything to me.He helped me program my thermostat. On the heater and A/C he tagged everything so that I would know what each knob,pipe, hose,valve,etc., was for. He helped me update my systems and bring them up to code operating and safety standards. I purchased a five year plan from them which gives me two tune ups a year, including parts, and 24 hour emergency service. I feel that this was one of the best purchases I have made so far. It gives me peace of mind and the knowledge that help is available to me. I would definitely recommend this company

I would absolutely use Sila again. They are courteous, knowledgable, professionals by every definition of the word. They even take care to wear booties over their work shoes to protect the flooring of your house. Attention to detail like that is RARE!
Description of Work: One of the shut off valves on a radiator was broken and started leaking. It caused the whole system to fill with air. Sila came out, diagnosed the problem, fixed the valve, bled the system, and told me how I could bleed the system if needed in the fall/winter next season.

Fantastic from initial schedule. They accommodated my request for a Saturday appointment at no additional charge. The service person was timely and answered all my questions provided a written summary and cleaned work area before leaving.

They are generally excellent in terms of service, price and being courteous on the phone. I cannot say enough about them. The only thing I am not too pleased with is there tendency (more of this lately) to try to upsell services. So when I call them for say a heating issue they will try to sell me something like a dehumidifier that I did not ask for and do not really think I need. It's sort of like a restaurant calling asking whether you want food now. Despite that, their workers are skilled and I will continue to use them.

(a) I got the appointment right away since the technician was in the area and he arrived in just 35 minutes. Kai was nice, courteous and explained the work he was doing. He cleaned up and tuned up my furnace and AC. He pointed out certain deficiencies (such as low freon) but wasn't pushy about selling additional services. He professionally informed me of the potential issues and offered his opinion but left me to decide what I wanted to do.

Problems from the start- installation was promised on a certain date, then was rescheduled, then they tried to reschedule AGAIN but came out when we threatened to go with another company. I will say that the installation itself went smoothly. Less than 6 months later, the heater has died!! When I called on a freezing cold night to report that my heat was out, instead of the promised '24 hour support', I was told that it meant 'service WITHIN 24 hours' and that they would TRY to get a technician out to me sometime tomorrow. I explained that this was unacceptable, as I had 2 small children in the house and I felt that they were not living up to their end of service and support. However I was told that all their technicians were done for the night and they could not help me. When you need them, they will not be there!! Not to mention how ridiculous it is that a unit less than six months old is not operating.
