Renewal by Andersen of Philadelphia

I recently received a quote for household window replacement from Renewal by Andersen. I did not ultimately purchase any product or service from them. Renewal by Andersen employed multiple hard sell techniques, detailed below, that made the conclusion of the price-quote process uncomfortable. I recommend anyone looking to purchase windows check out Consumer Reports' recent review of replacement windows (October 2014) issue. When I initially called Renewal by Andersen I was routed into a general phone service, which covers all Renewal by Andersen locations nationally. The representative took some personal information (name, phone, address) and set up an appointment at my house the following week. Over the course of the week Renewal by Andersen reached out multiple times both by phone and email to reconfirm appoint and send marketing materials. One of the items you will get via email is a list of people in your area who have recently had work done by Renewal by Andersen. In advance of the appointment the reps repeatedly request the presence of your spouse/partner at the house during the appointment time. The day of the appointment the Renewal by Andersen sales rep showed up on time and was dressed in attire that clearly identified them as working for Renewal by Andersen. The first thing we did was a tour of the house looking at all of the potential windows to be replaced. During this time the sales rep took rough measurements of each of the windows. The sales rep then gave an extended demo of the Renewal by Andersen window, supposedly only available through Renewal by Andersen. The sales rep extolled the windows virtues at great detail, and explained why they believed it was the best window available. The first sketchy sales technique was used at this point. As part of the demo the rep "calculated" how much the Renewal by Andersen windows would save on my electric and heating bills over the course of a year, and gave a pay-back period of how long it would take for the windows to pay for themselves through lower utility bills. When I asked for these calculations in writing as part of any window purchase agreement the rep was unwilling to give them. I was also told that the windows will never structurally fail; however, the sales rep could not explain why the windows only came with a 20 year warranty on the window itself if that was the case. After the demo came the actual quote. The sales rep typed all of my data into a pre-canned excel spreadsheet, which spits out a quote. The number was extremely high, $50,000, or approximately $2,000 per window. This per window amount is similar to what I have seen other Angie's List members report. I was then immediately given two options: A) 20% off per window with immediate payment (short term financing under 1 year was also available) or B) multi-year financing with no discount on the windows. [Sidenote: Renewal by Andersen repeatedly runs variations of the same 20% deal. You will see buy-one-get-one-40%-off, or buy-two-get-one-60%. In either case each window is 20% off.] During the window demo and quote the sales rep repeatedly called my partner over to take part in the conversation. At first I couldn't figure out why because my partner not interested in being involved in the window conversation. Then I realized the Renewal by Andersen rep was using the divide and conquer strategy. If the rep could get one of us hooked on wanting the windows it would make closing the sale much easier. The other hard sell technique the Renewal by Andersen salesrep utilized during the quote period was an additional 5% off but only if I ordered before they left. No same day, no 48-hours, I had to order before they left my property. This is a classic Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) sales strategy -- create anxiety that an opportunity will be missed by delaying. Despite requests by me to extend the window for this discount through the next week the sales rep would not change the offer. If you pass on this 5% day-off offer you will receive the same offer again a week later via email from Renewal by Andersen. I chose not to purchase anything from Renewal by Andersen and eventually got the sales rep out of my house (it was a three hour visit!).

They are very professional, punctual and the quality of the product is excellent. They cleaned up after themselves. I will be using them again for a future for another window installation.

The windows seemed nice but my wife noticed that the tensioners on the sashes are a thin nylon cord. That spelled trouble to us. Since all of the windows being replaced face south, I anticipated premature failure of the cords due to sun exposure. Not to mention that the cords made the windows appear cheap. There were other windows we had seen that had better features. And, these windows were 3 times more expensive than several others, so they were not even in the running.

In my case my estimate was $42,500 for (11) 36 x 45 inch windows and one 6 foot patio door. I thought this price was ridiculous. I moved on to receive other estimates for the same job from well known respected manufactures starting at $10,500. These other products seemed just as advanced and built to last as the Andersen Renewal product.

It went great. The salesman was good. He explained a lot of information for us. He is more expensive than others, but he did a good job of the pros and the cons. Installation was on time and I didn't have any issues. Anything that I questioned I got answers. I was satisfied with the installation. So far I have had no issues with the windows. I would say great sales and great follow through.

Excellent, they made sure I knew what to expect and they fulfilled or exceeded all expectations. They were done earlier than expected and everything was installed correctly and cleaned up thoroughly.

They replaced an existing window in our house with their Anderson window. It was a composite window. I liked their professionalism, I liked how they literally talked us through every step of the process, they checked and double checked everything, they called us before and after to make sure that we were completely satisfied with all the work that was done and to get feedback on their own for the company, so I really liked that. The person who actually came to our house was very, very nice. He has a helper and he talked us through the whole process before he even started to make sure we didn't have any questions and they replaced the window. They took all their garbage with them, I mean it was cleaner than when they got there. So they did an excellent job. And he was very friendly. He made sure we understood everything, we knew how to take care of the window. When he left, we had phone numbers in case we had to call anybody if we had some problems or any question.

Measurements were completed as scheduled and installers were neat and professional.

Scheduling was professional. Salesman was knowledgeable but just talked too much and didn't get to the point of our situation. Just wanted a price of how much it would be to replace the window. But he just went on and on of comparing and contrasting other products. Last, the price of replacing was more than I anticipated for the scope of the project in my view.

This is an old house with brick, stucco, and wood framing. The original set of replacement windows leaked and were installed improperly. Renewal by Andersen replaced the windows and flashing. They helped me pick the colors which turned out to look awesome and kept to the original and classic look of the house. They listened to what I wanted and delivered 100%.

They were very expensive but in terms service, quality, professionalism, and everything, they were fantastic. Their price is like doubled but the windows are very good. We had 21 windows. They were very professional, cleaned everything up, left the interior and exterior of my house just like when they got here, on time, and told me it will take 2 days and it took days. They were very good. The quality of their work is very good and no one will beat them.

I called Anderson for an estimate for window replacements. I had heard an ad on the radio and received many coupons in the mail for Buy 1, Get One 40% Off. DO NOT BE LURED BY THE ADS/COUPONS. The sales person showed up on time and was professional. However, they try to oversell their products. We listened to a 90 minute presentation that included videos, powerpoint slides, etc. I felt like I was listening to a timeshare or used car salesman pitch. At the end of the 90 minutes, he quoted us $28,000 for 15 windows. This was after the coupons were applied. Most of my other quotes were below $10k. These windows better be plated with gold and platinum at that price. Ridiculous and a waste of 90 minutes. Don't be lured by the ads.

They called me after I had purchaded a big deal from them. I asked them how much a patio door would cost, just wanting a ballpark figure, but they would not give me any pricing over the phone. When they came out, the estimate they gave me was for much more than the deal I had purchased.

They put a different type of window in our house. He did 6 windows that he just replaced with window with the same shape and size. Then we added, from a sliding to 2 double and a little bathroom window that was also a replacement. I don't feel that we have a lesser value of window. I think that people sometimes put value to a name that isn't always there. The men were professional that came out. They did the job in a timely manner and cleaned up and all of that. Attention to detail and stuff.

They were very professional. It is just odd that they stated there is 3 window minimum, when it says nowhere on the deal.

They were once again able to…they came and explained everything to us and how the windows work, and they taught us how to do the windows, you just have to lift up in order to clean, you don’t have to clean them from the outside. They were neat, they kept everything neat. They were prompt and thorough. They were very thorough at the end. They were able to complete it in one day. They didn’t think they were going to but they were able to. The price was high but it’s worth it.

They were honest, direct and left my home immaculate. The installers were professional and respectful. |My January heating bill dropped 50% and we were comfortable and warm without any drafts. My kids no longer walk around the house with sweatshirts on. |It was a great experience. I recommended them to my neighbors.

Too expensive. I went with someone else.

The salesperson came up with an extremely cost-effective plan and the work was completed in a very timely and professional fashion.

The service was okay. They were proficient and came when they were supposed to. They found one of the windows was delivered defective on the first installation. They called for a replacement right away. The only minor issue was that in removing one of the old windows the glass was cracked. A lot of the glass has fallen into my garden and I had to clean it up. I found later that they had done a poor job cleaning up the glass. The second time we had them come out, they again did a good job. I asked them to demonstrate how the windows worked to be cleaned. They were very careful with the clean-up and did a good job.

My experience went well. I was very pleased with the way the windows were designed and they were much improved. I particularly feel they make a better seal to prevent air coming through and they really work well. Installation was performed flawlessly. I found out after the installation that the panes were the wrong size and aesthetically blocking more light than I would have liked. It was not an option for me at the time of sale. The sales person, Vince, was very helpful and he has been with the company a long time but we went ahead and split the cost to fix the issue of the panes.

They did a great job. We had used them a year prior to install three windows in our kitchen and two windows in our living room. They are much more expensive than other companies but their product is excellent.

My experience was fine and scheduling in the beginning was a little difficult. We kept trying to schedule and their computer system was not working well. Two technicians came out to do the work and they were professional. I am happy with the new door.

My experience was just okay. Scheduling went well and there were two crews of two people that came out to do the installation. They do so much promotion that you never really know how much the window is truly costing. The windows look fine and the installation went well. It is not architecturally pretty but it was adequate. The second salesmen that came out to give an estimate on the 2nd set of windows was very unprofessional which is why I did not use them. I would shop around before deciding to spend this much money on windows that you can else where for less.

The work that I had done was done very well. The windows are excellent quality. The price of the windows were expensive and have gone up since then. I would recommend these windows if you plan on staying in your home a long time to get a decent economic return.
