We apologize for the experience that you had with our company. We do everything we can to make sure each and every customer is happy and gets what they want. We worked with you on price for your project and it was agreed that you would be supplying all the materials you purchased from a previous contractor who backed out of the job. We apologize for the internal miscommunication on our end about the metal you wanted to scrap. We understand that you and our roofer did not get along well and that sometimes personalities do not mix. However, he has been with us for several years and we fully trust him and his quality of work is second to none. Once work had begun, we realized that the material you supplied was not adequate to cover the job and we had to purchase additional materials to finish the job. Our roofer also paid for the repairs to the valleys to correct the problem due to the house not being perfectly square. When we went over the final invoice, covering the materials and labor that was owed because of the lack of original materials you provided, you accused us of lying and refused to pay the additional money owed. We apologize that you had this experience with our company and we can assure you that our production and estimating team did everything they could to make you happy.

Extremely prompt and professional. Did emergency clean up. Tammy and George were great. Brad Clapper there next day to get process and insurance claim moving. Rod the estimator did everything possible to get work done in two weeks before our departure to Seattle. Promised dates that seemed impossible but he met them all. Rip out crew, drywall crew and painters were very friendly and very quick - work area as clean as possible in a messy situation. Brand new, two month old rug protected during the work. Just a great bunch of people to work with. Nice to be in Seattle after a disaster two weeks ago knowing the job is done and furniture back in room. My wife and I would highly recommend Mihalkos. Call us if need to talk. Only nice things to say. 814-269-3593.

From beginning to end these people provided very good design advice and followed thru with timely expert construction and attention to detail. This home presented a lot of construction problems which were handled expertly and on time. We are VERY pleased and would recommend this company to anybody interested in quality on time work. Our job was also complicated by the presence of two babys under the age of 2 years in our home while construction was going on. The workers worked around nap times and lunches. They certainly transformed our home into the modern age while being true to the the history of the home.

Since we built our home, almost 10 years ago now, I have always wanted an island for my kitchen. After attending the Twin Lakes Arts and Heritage Festival in Greensburg this past summer, I met Derek Kauffman at the Mihalko's display. Mr. Kauffman and I got to talking and I scheduled an appointment [in person] for him to come and present me with some ideas as to how i could make my island and quot;come to life.and quot; Mr. Kauffman came over to our home and was extremely personable, courteous and VERY informative. My husband and I were immediately impressed. We went over some ideas. He was prepared with samples [which I appreciated] and I requested an estimate as soon as possible. By the end of that week, he was back at our home. I picked out my design, my colors, the layout - everything...with him...on the spot. He couldn't have been more kind and helpful. I signed the contract so we could get this project underway as soon as possible. A few weeks later, Mr. Kauffman and another gentleman arrived to install my island. Both were there the ENTIRE time. By the end of the installation, I couldn't have been happier. Thanks to Mr. Kauffman and his fellow co-worker, my island is a beautiful addition to my kitchen. A big 'thank you' to Mr. Kauffman and Mihalko's for their wonderful, skillful and impressive work.

I contacted Mihalko's based upon a referral from a friend of mine. She utilized their services in the past and couldn't have been happier; therefore I knew I needed to contact them right away. I wanted one of my bathrooms remodeled. Derek came over to my home and couldn't have been more courteous and informative. He was and quot;spot onand quot; with measurements and offered several ideas as to how I could remodel my bathroom. I certainly took his ideas into consideration. He then left and assured me that I would have an estimate within a few days. He contacted me within 48 hours with an estimate. Very prompt. I really appreciated that. We discussed the estimate in detail and I moved forward and signed the contract. Within a few weeks, the guys arrived at my home and were extremely friendly and helpful. Derek made an appearance every single day to check up on the progress, as well as how the guys were performing. Again, very prompt. Once everything was completed, I couldn't have been happier. The end result was amazing. I would certainly recommend Mihalko's (and their services), as well as Derek to anyone. As soon as I am ready to move forward with my next remodeling project, I will be calling Mihalko's and requesting Derek to assist me. Thank you to the team at Mihalko's, as well as to Derek.

In May we had Mihalko's remodel our bathroom and put new flooring in the house. The bathroom was gorgeous when complete, and the flooring flows nicely throughout the house. We were looking for a very customized approach to our home remodeling and that is exactly what we received. We experienced a very smooth process with our salesman Todd and Designer Bryan. I would recommend Mihalko's to family and friends.

In the month of March we hired Mihalko’s General Contracting to redesign and build out our kitchen and two bathrooms. The team at Mihalko’s was fantastic from start to finish, we worked with designer Brian Miller then had the chance to see how effective Todd, Ted, and Grant were. I was very thankful that their employees checked in at all points during the job to ensure quality. Kitchen and bathroom redesigns are not easy projects to complete but I’m thankful we selected a remodeling and design company to do the job. I highly recommend Mihalko’s for small jobs and large custom work. I could not be happier. Thank You!

We called Mihalko's after a snow storm had damaged our porch. We had called the Insurance Company, then Mihalko's for emergency repairs. They came out within an hour of our call, Sent someone out to support the porch for the emergency and had asked for an estimate. They came out within a few days of the claim to the Insurance Company, but never gave us the estimate to submit it. We had to call numerous times to speak to the gentleman that did the estimate, said he would contact our Insurance Company, but never had an estimate submitted. They had to come out a few times to support the porch correctly since the snow storms we had didn't damage the support columns where they had the support beams. They were paid by the Insurance Company for the emergency call, but that was it. No further contact was given by anyone at Mihalko's and the Insurance Company gave us only 1/2 the claim funds to fix it since we only had 1 response to the estimates. Overall they are great in an emergency, but that would be the only thing I would have them do for us again.

We are happy that we were able to help you in your emergency situation. Unfortunately, when we work with insurance companies, we are obligated to follow their rules and, in this instance, we were not required by them to submit an estimate. This should have been conveyed to you, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. We supported the porch per your adjuster's and engineer's specifications. If you have further questions about your policy's coverage, please give your insurance company a call.

Overall we were completely satisfied with our experience. They were all very friendly and super helpful and knowledgable. I would highly recommend them.
Description of Work: We were building a new house and had a kitchen design we just didn't like, it was very plain and blah. We decided to go to Mihalko's and have their expert designer, Bryon, draw something up for us. We LOVED it! He put some class in the design, gave us some different options for crown moldings to spruce the look up. Gave us wonderful cabinet options for our needs. We even had an issue with our stove hood not working properly almost after a year of having it installed. We hadn't used it much, but the lights would not work. They gave us bulbs to replace and that still did not fix the problem. It had an electrical problem. Mihalko's got us a brand new hood and replaced it at no cost even though it had already been out of warrantee time. We also had a bar area installed in our lower level with granite tile countertop. It turned out beautiful and the cabinets are just what we wanted. We get many compliments on it and we are proud to show it off.

Well, we started with a contract and a handshake, and ended with an arbitration through the Pennsylvania Attorney General's office. In between were numerous lies a quality and workmanship. Thankfully we ended up with the improvements we wanted, but only after riding them like a bucking bronco. It's a shame that it took a whip and a chair to get them to do what we wanted.
Description of Work: They retrofitted a bathroom for handicap accessibility. It took six months.Thankfully, no one was living there at the time. Maybe that's why they 'dogged' it.

I started the process of wanting to remodel our bathroom around the end of June/ first of July. Considering Milhalko's has been in businees for a long time and actually had a showroom I felt comfortable with them redoing my bathroom. When myself and wife went to the showroom everyone was courtesy and helpful in telling us how and what could be done and what to expect. We sat down with Ron and went over some ideas. One of the first questions was and quot;do you have any pictures of bathrooms you have previously done?and quot; He aswered he didnt have any at the time with him although he was at his desk in front of his computer. I handed him a picture of what we wanted our bathroom to look like. We wanted glass tile thoughout the shower, framless doors, basket weave tile on floor, oil rubbed fistures, etc...We commented on and referenced the picture many times. So we went home and started to pick out the exact color, size, even the company that made the tile. Once we had gathered our information and Ron made some measurements including the two pocket doors we wanted installed (remember the doors, they come into play later on) it was time for the bid. The bid over 20k to beging with. So we went and met Ron again to discuss the bid. He stated the main reason the bid was so high is beacuse we wanted glass subway tile and the cost of tile and labor to install tile was very high(understandable) and they dont buy anything not American made and do not buy the off the shelve products at Home Depot. So we went upstairs to find other options and lower the cost of bid. We finally settled for a fabrique tile for shower and a 1 X 2 Olean tile for floor. After some more cuts and replacements we had the price down to a price we could tolerate without sacrificing to much. Now for the interesting and long journey of this ride. I was deploying in August, my wife was due to deliver our son on Nov. 2nd. One stipulation for Milhalko's to get this job was the job needed to be done as soon as possible. I was told the job would be started in 2-5 weeks and would take about three weeks to complete. I even mentioned to my wife that it sucks the bathroom would be finshed about a week or so after I left August 21. So the job was suppose to start at the end of July/ beginning of Aug. I thought well, I will go ahead and pay the total amount up front (big mistake) and way my wife will not have to deal with anything becasue she already had enough on her plate. We not only did they not start by end of July, they did even start in August. For those who are asking, yes they cashed the check within a week or so of me handing it to them. I called once before I left in the beginning of Aug and asked what the issue was and I was assured that they would be starting soon it was a matter of waiting on orders and they didnt like to start until they had all the materials to finish the job. I reminded them again I was leaving and swife is pregnant and this needed to hurry up and be done because I didnt want my pregnant wife having to deal with contractors while 8 and 9 months pregnant. Seems like a reasonable request but no. My wife calls me while Im at Ft. Hood getting ready to go overseas and tells me she has tried to call Ron a couple of times, emailed him, called the office, etc to no prevail. So now Im a little concerned. See I handed over 15K to a contractor which hasnt started(now 8 weeks late) and seems to not answer calls from my wife. So she calls me; exactly what I need to deal with while Im training soldiers to deploy but I digress. So I call and talk to Barry. Barry was understanding on the phone and apologized, oh the tears he cried, when he explained that they were still waiting on a vanity from Home Depot...yes that same Home Depot they dare not buy from....Remember they didnt want to start the job until they had all the material. So, when I asked when that vanity would be in response was the next day... I asked why it would take longer than 8 weeks for a vanity to come in from Home Depot.....and quot;well it just takes time and I really have no excuse...and quot; The next week they show up and start demolishing the bathroom. At this point it was September. So, things are moving along at the pace of a turtle with gout, and we start running into problems. One problem is the pocket doors. Ron came out and measured the wall for two pocket doors, told my wife what size to order (yes from Home Depot) and she did exactly what was asked. When the carpenter showed up he told my wife the one door wouldnt work as a pocket door. Once she told Ron that door wouldnt work he told her to exchange for a different size door. Only problem with that is the original purchase was a custom door, no exchanges Ron. So they made that door work and still charged me for pocket door. While this was going on and the and quot;crewsand quot; were working my wife sent me pictures of the mess created in the house. The and quot;crewand quot; did not put up plastic or any type of protection to seal the rest of house off from the construction area. So needless to say when my 8 month pregnant wife returns home she has to clean the whole house. I have one picture where they laid wet piant rollers on a plastic on grocery bag on the bed. But at least they are showing up right. So now we are at the end of Sept/beginning of Oct. Now comes the tile installer. There seems to be some confusing about the pattern my wife wanted on the walls. Staggered, brick, stacked, etc. So the tiler ask and she not knowing what exactly he is talking about, remember Milhlako's doesnt have pictures to reference according to Ron, draws a small diagram on the wall in pencil, Its a technique I guess. So the tile starts going up and she sends me pictures and I notice the tile doesnt look right. I question the random pattern on the wall and why the joints arent lining up every other course and why there are one inch pieces spread out randomly in the corners. The tile we were using were 8X20 inch, so anything as small as one inch in the field doesnt make sense and looks horrible. So I told her to call Barry because at this point we had giving up on Ron, besides he would never return call or emails so what was the point. He came over and said they would take out small pieces an rework the tile somewhat. As the work continues I notice the tile job sucks. I call Barry, I tell him I am not pleased with anything Milhalko's and the job is sub par at best and please explain all the mistakes that were made in the tile work and shower itself. Here are the problems with tile work; The inlays on the one wall are right beside each other and are not the same size. It so obvious I pointed it out in a pciture. Tiles have cut marks longer than need be so on the corner of inlay it looks like h***, lighter tiles on smaller wall have permanent marker on the tile where cuts needed to be made, there is no bench in the shower, there is no inlay on the back wall that was suppose to be put in, the bullnose to the shower is a totally different color than the two colors we used in shower(suppose to be schluter edge but charged for bullnose), the grout seams in floor are not equal and looks rushed. I tell him I will be home in less than three weeks for the delivery of my son and it better be done and I expect him to come by so we can talk about money to be refunded and or fix the issues. We are well into Oct at this point. The shower still need the top row of tile because they didnt order enough and the doors have not been put up. The doors, we asked for framless doors. What we recieved is anything but frameless. So the door which are suppsoe to be framless have a frame on top, on bottom, they even have a frame in the middle. I called Ron at this point and he actually calls back and tells me there are no such thing as and quot;frameless glass doors.and quot; I even have an email there are no such thing as and quot;framelessand quot; glass doors. By the way the door was put in 3 days before I got home. So, I get to come home for my sons birth, Nov 2 and I am still having to deal with Milhalko's. Now its Novemebr, Barry comes by and I point out obvious faults with bathroom. This is the first face to face I had with Barry since this whole process started. So, I start with the inlays, they are different sizes, not by design. He looks and stares at them awhile and his response is, and quot;those are custom made.and quot; I tell him they one is almost 3/4 inch taller than the other and the other is 1/2 inch wider and both arent square and arent centered in the shower. He looks, stares for awhile, and states, and quot; those are custom made.and quot; I dont even know what to say at this point. So I ask him about the extended cuts on the corner of inlay and rub my finger across the tile and show him the tiled is bowed out about a 1/4 inch from the next tile. Its so bad when shower light is on you can see a shadow. (This should happen if tile was flush with next tile.) So, Barry looks at it, stares, pauses and states, and quot; that is custom made.So I move to the floor tile in shower. I point out that the tile in the one corner is a full one inch but by the time it reaches the other wall its down to a 1/4 size(meaning the shower is not square, although they built the walls for shower). Barry looks confused by this whole and quot;squareand quot; thing so I take out a measuring tape and show him that the curb is not straight.. He looks, stares, and quot;that is custom made.and quot; I show him the flooring outside the shower. I showed him where two pieces come together and pointed out how the seasm are lined up..He acknowledged it was and that its also wasn't and quot;custom madeand quot;. I showed him pics of and quot;framless glassand quot; doors and he actualIy said at first and quot;no they have to have a frame on top and bottom.and quot; I made the picture bigger and ask to point out frame on top and he said he couldnt casue he did have his glasses on. I told him I wanted this fixed or money back cause this is not what I paid for p*** poor craftsmanship. They refunded 500 dollars for the and quot;frame with some glass in it doorand quot; and nothing else.

On Tuesday Oct. 30 2012 I contacted Mihalko's to get an estimate for damage done by hurricane Sandy. I left a message and someone called me back pretty promptly. They said they would have someone come out that day to take a look and do the estimate. Later that afternoon Wayne and a young lady showed up at our house. I showed them the damage and we discussed a few things. he took a bunch of pictures of the damage and said they would get back to me with an estimate. I asked how long it would take to get the estimate back... he said that they have been pretty busy that day due to others having storm damage and that it would likely be a few days. But since it should be a pretty easy estimate to write up, it shouldn't take long. He asked for my email address so that he could just email me the estimate. Today is now Nov. 8th and I have not heard a single thing back from the company. No email, no estimate not even a phone call. I read the reviews that others said about them and was looking forward to having worked completed by them. I guess the work I needed done was too small for them or something. This is a terrible way to treat potential customers and I will be sure to tell everyone I know about this experience and recommend that they not waste their time. I understand they where busy, but common sense should have told them to at least call me and say and quot;Hey, sorry about the delay but we will have that too you very soon.and quot; had they done that, I would have been pleased.

This was my first experience with Mihalko's, and I am absolutely delighted. Everyone I dealt with was prompt , courteous, and professional. Brad did an excellent job of negotiating with the insurance company to find an acceptable price for the new flooring (something my prior contractor never managed to do). All of Mihalko's workers were punctual, efficient, and skilled, and I was very pleased with the end results on both projects. What has impressed me most is the strong customer service focus demonstrated by Mihalko's. Barry, in particular, was always accessible, responsive, and personable. When I called the office approximately two months after the original work was completed to request a minor adjustment, Barry immediately (and very cheerfully) arranged for the follow-up work, which was completed later that same week. It's rare to find a company that provides the same level of service AFTER the fact--when they're not even getting paid for it. Unfortunately, I will soon be moving out of the area, but if I were staying, I would not hesitate to use Mihalko's services in the future. Kudos to all who work there--you're the best!
Description of Work: Mihalko's recently constructed two projects for me: the construction of a small deck at the rear of my house and the replacement of a significant portion of my downstairs flooring, which was damaged by workers during delivery of a stove. (The flooring project was financed through an insurance claim.)

It went okay. I have no qualms regarding the craftsmanship of the work. However, they never "finished" their work - they left some of the baseboards off, never put an inside door back up, etc. Also, the seams in the wall-to-wall carpet look terrible. Also, they were very expensive when they quoted me to paint. Other contractors wanted 1/3 of what they quoted.

I am very happy with all the work they did on my house and have talked to several people that I recomended them to who had the same experience. The only reason I didn't leave a perfect score for them is because they forgot a ladder at my house and it took them 3 days before they picked it up.
Description of Work: I had my roof replaced by Mihalkos after a wind storm had blown off a portion of my roof. I had called my insurance company because it was to rain the next day after the shingles blew off and they recomended several companies to cover my roof. I called three of the companies on the list and Miahlkos was the first to respond. They had a crew out that afternoon to cover my roof and keep the rain out. Three weeks later they replaced my roof and it only took 2 days for them to finish the job. Very clean and the workers were very respectfull of my flowers and deck furniture.

They would not even do therepairs themselves, but sent a sub-contractor. Spouting and step rail repair was satisfactory, but the basement entrance enclosure was built using a poor grade of wood. We were told that it was treated wood and would not crack or warp. Even thoughthe wood was painted and covered with a tarp over the winter, by mid summer it was full of cracks and was warping to an unacceptable degree, Mihalco's refused to repair or replace the wood. I will never do business with these people again and I strongly encourage all others to do the same.
Description of Work: Had rain spouting repaired, Rails installed on steps, and new basement entrance enclosure.

Member, We are very sorry about the treated wood . The wood used in treated lumber is yellow pine. I have to say that is what we can buy here in Pa. We have used this treated lumber for the last 20 years and yes it does crack even if it is painted. I wish I could change that but the only way is to use another product like a composite that is nearly 4 times as much. Please check with us if you would like a different type of material. Thanks you, Lou Mihalko

Overall the experience was very frustrating. It was like trying to pull teeth to get them to get things done on time. When the deadline was approaching and work was done correctly they made all kinds of excuses as to why they were right and I was wrong. They forced me to pay the bill. Wish I would have taken it to court.
Description of Work: Was hired to completely gut and re-do a bathroom to make Handicap accessable . The work was poor at best. Most materials were not what was promised or ordered. When problems arose with the toilet I became my reponsibility to get it repaired at my expense. When they put the h/c shower in, the floor was not leveled correctly, and water collected right by seat where someone could slip and fall. They would not make it right. Still have problems 4+ years later. The ceramic wall trim was not cut and cornered properly. The grouting in the walls is several different colors. The painting was not very good.

Instead of just telling me they didn't want to do the work, they just never returned my repeated phone messages. The work was not that involved and makes me wonder what there true workmanship is like. If this is the way this contractor operates then beware of what the finished job will look like or how well they stick to the work schedule!
Description of Work: I wanted an estimate for repairs on my house.
