Response from PARK PLUMBING
I understand your frustrations with our not being able to have given you a quote. Your repairs were kind of a special circumstance that we needed the boss to look at personally before doing so. I'm glad we were able to help you and get the issues you were having resolved. I do apologize that it did take us some time to do so.

So in the midst of the polar vortex or whatever they're calling the coldest winter EVER, the pipes for my upstairs bathroom froze and burst. My kitchen ceiling completely collapsed. It was 9pm last night. The same misfortune fell on my neighbor, and after chatting with him, he informed me that he had a guy coming the next morning at 9am, and would have him stop at my place after he finished up there. Great. Only, no. I guess the repair man's partner called off, (funny, so did I) and he was no longer willing to stop by my place. At this point, it's 11am. Knowing people all over the city have had similar problems, I thought I would never get someone out by the day's end. And missing work again tomorrow was not an option. If I didn't get someone to come out today, it would be next Monday before I could be home to have someone out during normal business hours. Enter Angie's list, where I found Park plumbing. I called at 11:10am today, and Mike answered. What a nice guy! He was curious how I found them, I said Angie's List. He said he would talk to his boss about coming out today and call me back in a few minutes. Within 10 minutes he did call, and said he was on his way to Mt. Washington to drop off some parts to another crew (I am in Brookline) and that he would be there within an hour, and he was, right down to a few minutes. He came in and checked things out, he said it looked like an easy job and though he didn't have the materials to repair it right there, he would try his best to get a crew out this afternoon. He said if they couldn't make it, he would have them there first thing in the morning and was confident they could finish the job with plenty of time for me to get to work. I was happy with that, and away he went. There was no charge for the consultation. Like I said, I was happy with that, so I was ECSTATIC when he called back about 2 hours later and said a crew was on the way. Yay! A shower would be mine by evening. They showed up within a few minutes of the call. I want to stress how genuinely kind Mike was. He was informative, to the point, and didn't mind answering questions. He smiled a lot, and was just an all around good natured guy. That's not a necessity for a repairman I guess, but this is still a stranger in my home, and those qualities definitely put me at ease. Mike didn't return, but he sent Jim and Nate. I could use the exact same description for these two: all around, good, happy guys. I was really impressed. We found a few extra leaks and they were very thorough making sure everything was ok, and making sure everything that wasn't ok was repaired. They were here just about an hour, and were very easy to talk to, and very friendly (and they were genuinely so, absolutely). They were nice to my pets too, which may not be a big deal to you, but is a huge deal to me. We were standing in the kitchen bs'ing and it definitely made the frozen-exploding-pipe plumbing debacle not so awful. I can't say one bad thing about this crew, or the work done, or the price. Nate even offered to give me a number for someone to take care of fixing the ceiling, but of course I forgot to get it from him. I'll probably give them a call for that later. I'm a first time home owner and this stuff can be such a hassle, but it wasn't. Not even a little. I hope this is a problem I don't encounter again, but if I need a plumber, I am definitely calling these guys, and you totally should, too.

I've always been satisfied with the service. Rick is professional, courteous, efficient, and more importantly; reasonably priced. Rick is always punctual and available, and so cost effective that I often wonder if he's making any money at all from the prices he charges. We've used him time and time again, and will continue to recommend and refer him to others for their plumbing needs.
Description of Work: He installed a garbage disposal, a new high rise kitchen faucet, and installed a new basket strainer tailpiece. He also redid the waterline for my utility tub as well as installed a new utility tub. He also replaced the knobs with vertical valves for the hot and cold options for the utility tub, the hot water tank and the one underneath my kitchen sink, allowing for easier access. They also installed new copper lines to accommodate the lines for the utility tub, as the new water heater and water tank.

The overall experience was good, however, Park Plumbing did not came back to perform the follow-up dye test and certify the drain passed and give the Borough of Munhall (PA) this information. It is important this information is forwarded to the Borough in the event the house is sold. Without this certification, the Borough will not allow the sale of the house to be completed The method utilized to accomplish the task had not been tried by Park Plumbing, but worked very well. The workers were very polite and finished the task in the time alloted.
Description of Work: Installed a drain and pump to comply with an unfunded mandate from the EPA and PA EPA eliminating storm water from entering the sewer drain from the driveway of my home. The driveway is at a steep angle, and if the drain and pump was not installed and the sewer drain was raised to comply with the unfunded mandate, the runoff would flood my garage and basement. Park Plumbing installed the storm drain line to the street by means of a sump pump. The line is below the grade of the driveway until it reaches the street. The cost included installing the drain and the in the driveway, connecting the electric to power the pump, digging the trench for the line and covering it over. All told, it was professionally done and the cost was reasonable.

We had Park Plumbing out on another occasion to fix a gas leak and they did a great job. We knew our water heater was overdue to be replaced, so we got an estimate from them and scheduled the work. They were always very easy to reach on the phone. They were running a little late the day of the appointment due to an emergency, but they called to let us know, which I really appreciated. They worked efficiently and did a professional job. We will definitely be using them again in the future.

On October 31st, the pilot lights in our gas appliances went out and I could not get them to reignite. I called the gas company and they sent a road crew out that night to dig up the line to determine what the problem was. As it turned out, the steel service line on my property was the original service line from when the house was constructed (approximately 1967); and it had developed some holes throughout the years. Water from three or four solid days of rain had crept into the service line and was preventing us from being able to keep our gas appliances running. The crew put the dirt back in the hole and advised me to contact a qualified plumber to replace the line. The next morning, I called Park Plumbing after finding them on Angie's List. Sight unseen, describing the situation based upon how I understood it, I was pleased to obtain an extremely reasonable estimate over the phone; and not only that, but they were able to come out on the same day and perform the work, which sealed the deal for me. The plumber arrived shortly thereafter without a backhoe and began digging, with shovels, the area that the road crew had dug up the night before. After some time, the plumber approached our house and stated that they would have to go and get a backhoe, so they left to obtain their vehicle. I am not certain why they had not arrived with their backhoe in the first place. There may have been some sort of communication issue between me and the plumber. I had indicated that the line had been dug up the night prior, but the plumber seemed to be under the impression that the gas company had not filled in the hole after digging it up. This may have been my fault for not indicating that the road crew had filled in the hole, or it may have been the plumber's for assuming that the gas company would have left the hole open. Regardless of which case it was, the crew returned about two hours later with the backhoe and completed the replacement in a few short hours. In our area, the gas company requires that the plumber be present when the service is restored to the house. It is the plumber's responsibility to basically do all of the turn-on work at the street while the gas company representative witnesses the turn-on, restores service at the meter, and then enters the house to reignite the pilot lights. As such, the gas company indicated that someone would be out later that evening; and that someone would call us about 30 minutes prior to arriving. The plumber told us that he was a little disappointed in some of the gas company's policies and opted not to stay on site, which ended up being a good decision since the gas company did not arrive until several hours later. The plumber gave us a cell phone number to reach him at for when the gas company called with the 30 minutes heads-up, and took leave of our premises. Later that evening, the gas company technician called, and we called the plumber back. True to his word, he arrived shortly after the gas company employee had arrived, and began the laborious process of getting service restored. Unfortunately, although the plumber had taped the line shut when leaving earlier, water had somehow gotten back into the line, and the gas company technician was unable to restore service to my house. He had the plumber shut off the line at the street also so that the plumber could go back and remove the water from the new line prior to restoring service. Again, the plumber was very disappointed in the gas companies policies, as he had requested that a road crew be sent out to ensure that the water was not coming from the gas company's side, but the gas company was unable to send out a crew to the same residence for the second night in a row, especially when the representative from the gas company indicated that he was very confident that the problem lay within the new service line. Being close to midnight on November 1st at this point, the plumber indicated that work would have to resume at 9 AM the next morning due to the uncooperative nature of the gas provider, and he apologized for having to delay the restoration of service. The next morning, the crew arrived and did some work to eliminate all traces of water from the line. They called the gas company again, and a representative showed up shortly thereafter. The plumber and the gas company worked in tandem, and my gas service was restored slightly after noon on November 2nd. While I rated the plumber an "A" in most categories, I wanted to clarify why I deemed it necessary to downgrade the plumber to a "B" in two categories. I downgraded the plumber to a "B" in Quality due to the water getting into the line and the fix being delayed for a little over 12 hours from the night of November 1st until around noon on November 2nd, which ultimately ended up being the result of the plumber's initial work; but once again, as previously explained, the plumber did resolve this issue in a relatively timely manner and without any additional cost to me, and the quality of the repair work would be an "A" when not taking those other factors into consideration. Additionally, I downgraded the plumber to a "B" in Professionalism due to the problems that he had in dealing with the gas company. He explained to me that other gas providers in the area are not as stringent as the one which he was dealing with for my property, and he made it no secret to either me, my wife, or any representative of the company that he did not enjoy dealing with this particular gas provider. I felt that those instances showed a slight lack of professionalism on his part; but then again, eventually, the plumber did work well in tandem with the gas company representative on November 2nd without incident to get the gas service restored to my residence, so I would rate the plumber an "A" otherwise. Overall, I was very pleased with Park Plumbing. Although there were some difficulties with water in the line and with the gas company, the plumber resolved both of these problems in a relatively timely manner without any additional cost to me. Park Plumbing was very reasonably priced, extremely timely in getting the work started, worked very diligently to complete the work in a very timely manner, agile in working with us and the gas company in attempting to restore service later that evening, and lived up to their end of the deal the next day despite some setbacks. I would gladly recommend Park Plumbing to anyone that may be looking to have their gas line replaced.

The 2 workers were punctual and called to say they were on their way, which is always appreciated. They took a look at the old drain line and agreed that the section in the basement needed to be replaced. They worked quickly and cleaned up completely, then installed the new outdoor spigot. One of the men, Nate, had done work at my son's home a few months ago, and we were impressed then with his work and the reasonable price. I was very happy with the job and thought the price was very fair. We will definitely use Park Plumbing for any future plumbing work.
