Provider came out to look at job. Unfortunately, I don't think they were interested in doing the job I wanted which was basically selling and installing a new sump pump with secondary pump and battery back-up plus plumbing work for pump. Probably considered the job too small. Instead, I was provided with an estimate for installing a french drain around the perimeter of my basement. It wasn't long after that I gave up and took the $99 dollar loss for their Angie's List's Big Deal.

Dear [removed member name], We apologize for any misunderstanding. I believe you purchased a maintenance system check Coupon which was sold back in 2012 and we performed those services for Angie’s List Subscribers in that same year. Comfort Basement is a Waterproofing, Structural Repair, Crack Repair as well as a Sump Pump Installation Company. Our services include the Installations of Basement Waterproofing Systems such as French Drains and we also sell a large number of primary & Back up pump Installations each month. Our sump pump technicians are hired specifically to install primary pumps and Back-up Pumps in New Jersey, including North Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware. I believe your address is approximately 30 minutes from our Main Office we would be more than willing to complete a pump installation if you have not already gotten it done. We would also credit you the cost of your coupon towards any purchase you make with Comfort Basement. If you are still looking to get a Back-Up pump installed we encourage you to look into our Water Pressure Back-Up Pump, it is an extremely reliable back-Up System. We ran a special on that item and sold a tremendous amount several months ago and many were in your area. If you have any questions about our sump pump services please call us at 888-600-4169 and we will be more than happy to assist you Thank you

Jessie did a great job. Communicated his ETA which allowed me to focus on other tasks. Thoroughly explained the product installation prior to starting the work, kept me updated as work progressed, and demonstrated how the unit worked after the installation. Did a great job of clean-up...no mess for me to handle. Professional and friendly. Performed quality work in a reasonable time frame. I totally recommend Comfort Basement.
Description of Work: Installed a water pressure driven back-up sump pump which operates if the primary pump fails or electricity goes out. Unlike, the battery driven back-ups, the water driven (city water pressure) requires virtually no maintenance.

I was given the impression by Angie's List when I purchased the "big deal" that the provider would contact me within a few days to set up appointment, or send me an e-mail message. It's been 3 weeks, and neither happened, so I would like a refund from Angie's List. I understand the provider may be busy, but there must be a communication failure somewhere, as I was lead to believe by Angie's List that I would be contacted soon after I made the purchase. I hate to grade the provider poorly, because I don't know if he was even aware of the purchase. I wasn't in a hurry to get the work done, and made that clear on my request, but I did want to at least speak with the provider to set up a consultation, or at least get a communication that he was aware of the purchase and would fit me in at a time convenient for both.

An owner himself came to meet with us (Jesse). He was highly informative, and showed us graphics so we had a clear picture what the work would look like. He explained every thing fully and we felt like we were his priority. He quoted the job Friday and the crew arrived at 8:30 AM the following MONDAY-- only 3 days later. This crew (both days) came in and worked like gangbusters! Both days they worked 10 hours, and I never noticed anyone taking much a break. It was actually exciting to see a team attack a project like this. They were also meticulous: Norm carried a heavy table out of the basement for me, then he and Angel covered absolutely everything in the basement with plastic. Every detail of the French drain was addressed: including extending the line out to the street, and tying in problem gutters to relieve our water problems. We also appreciated Brian (the foreman) explaining everything before and after the job. I fully recommend this company. They are serious about getting your business, and doing a professional job in the quickest amount of time possible so you can get back to living. Very nice crew, great communication, and delivered on everything they promised.

They were excellent. I found them on Angie's List and spoke to them on the phone. Just by talking to them on the telephone and doing my homework on how they address the issue I feel comfortable and it’s because it's their expertise based on what I learned in doing my research effectively. Their price is attractive and they are also timely in making themselves available to come and do the job.

My experience with Comfort Basement was excellent from start to finish. I purchased a special offer through Angie's List so the price was excellent and a very good quality pump was installed. Jesse was courteous, professional, prompt and explained the pump. He offered some other possible ideas for our water issues, but did not push us to do more than the original offer. I would definitely recommend Comfort Basement. We are relieved to have a system which will turn on automatically if our electricity goes off again.

He informed me that the repair of the crack would be a cosmetic job and gave me an estimate of what a more involved correction the job would entail. I am in the process of considering his estimate. Jesse was very professional in his manner, and I have no complaints about him nor Comfort Basement; however, the project for which I bought the big deal was not performed. Jesse suggested that I would need to contact Angie's List to get a refund for this coupon. So, I am writing to you to request a refund for my coupon. Thanks.

I called to have a free estimate but the person who called me back said that I needed to have my husband present at the time of the estimate. I felt like I was back in the middle ages. This was a red flag for me that they wanted to do some kind of super sales pitch like they do when they want to sell you time share property. I told the caller from Comfort Basement that this was unacceptable and that my husband was not going to take off work to be there -- she responded that that could come out evenings or weekends. This was also unacceptable to me, this is not what my husband wants to do, nor do we want to wait for weeks for the "a time when we could both be waiting for them to show." It is outrageous that this type of antiquated and sexist attitude exist especially on Angie's List!
Description of Work: I called to have a free estimate, but could not set one up.
Background context: My house is a twin unit, 1450 square feet, built in 1996 and far from any rivers or streams. My experience with Comfort Basement begins at the end of June, 2013. The work on the interior french drain installation began two weeks late because Jesse failed to factor in the time to attain a permit from my borough to perform the work. According to a serviceman for Comfort Basement who I spoke to during one of many warranty repair calls, Jesse's team was literally about to begin work in my home when borough inspectors roaming my street came by and stopped them from proceeding without a permit (Something Jesse never told me himself. He originally claimed he knew he needed a permit from the start, and that it took longer than he expected to attain said permit). Once the installation actually began, the process was not smooth. Workers would spend two days in the house, then not come back until two days later, then not come back for another day. I had to call the office to find out that other "more important" work for other customers had priority over mine (a theme repeated throughout my experience working with Comfort Basement). I accidentally forget to turn my air conditioner off one day before leaving for work, and Jesse's team excavated my basement without thinking to turn it off. Sure enough, my air vents dispersed the dust from the excavation in various places throughout my house. While this is my fault for not turning it off, an experienced team of basement waterproofers would have heard the unmistakable sound of my air conditioner turning on and off on a hot day and would think to turn it off before digging up dust and particles that would get sucked into the AC vents. Even though the project was running late, Lisa (the receptionist I always spoke to on the phone) asked for my final payment before the work was actually completed (I was awaiting someone to come out to hook the sump pump discharge line up to the outside storm drain). I argued with her, stating that most legitimate companies do not ask for final payment until the customer is satisfied with the final work, but I bowed and promised a check for Jesse during his next house visit. The work finished about two weeks after it began. Jesse estimated one week, but relative to other problems not a big deal to me. Not long after the work finished, a big summer thunderstorm came through my area, and every single point of rainwater intrusion again leaked water. I called Jesse back for a warranty service, and he and his team came out and "enhanced" the exterior seal on the outside of my basement. I asked: "Why didn't the rainwater percolate through the soil into my interior french drain?" After all, the interior french drain was the solution Jesse recommended at the time to solve the very problem I was still experiencing. Jesse responded that my issue is "surface water" and that the french drain does not address this problem. I asked: "Then why did you install it?" He responded, "You asked for an interior french drain!" This was obviously a lie -- Jesse was the one who recommended an interior french drain to me and claimed it would resolve *all* of the water intrusion problems my basement was experiencing. I was beginning to realize I got swindled into getting the interior french drain and my money would have been better spent addressing my real water intrusion problem. Another big rainstorm came through, and sure enough, more water intrusion. This time, water was leaking around the collar of a pipe Jesse's team drilled in the wall of my basement to discharge water from the interior sump pump to my outside lawn. Essentially, they introduced another point of water intrusion instead of fixing the existing ones! Calling Comfort Basement to schedule a warranty repair was always a headache. Lisa and Jesse rarely pick up before the voicemail kicks in, and they have *never* called me back after I leave a voicemail. I don't think they ever check it. I eventually got through to Lisa, and she scheduled someone from Comfort Basement came out and put more epoxy on the pipe. A couple weeks later, another rain storm came through, and the collar of the pipe leaked again, resulting in another difficult-to-schedule warranty repair call. This time, the service man used a "higher quality" epoxy to seal the pipe. This is the equivalent of Burger King saying they're using "a higher quality beef" in their burgers. It makes you wonder: What they were using before?! Not to mention, several others holes in my basement were sealed using the original, cheaper epoxy. Should I now wait until they fail before I schedule another warranty repair call to get them resealed with the higher quality epoxy??? Eventually the winter of 2013-14 came, and while there was lots of snow, there weren't enough significant downpours of rain to continue testing Comfort Basement's solution to my rainwater intrusion problem. Then this past weekend (March 29th-30th, 2014), it rained all weekend (the first major rainstorm of 2014), and every original point of rainwater intrusion again leaked. I called Comfort Basement's service line, and the receptionist, Lisa, picked up. I sent her photos, and she said, "I will call you back either late today or tomorrow morning with a service date." Sure enough, by the afternoon of the next day, I received no return call. I called Comfort Basement back, and no one picked up. I tried calling back several times until Lisa finally answered. Frustrated because she had been ignoring my calls, she said she was "working in the field" and could not take my call, even just for a minute to tell me that she was working in the field and would call me back. She denied ever telling me she would call me back by the afternoon or morning of the next day (even though she did), and changed the timeframe to "by the end of the week." This call was on a Tuesday. I tried again and again to give Comfort Basement another chance to prove they could resolve my water intrusion issue, but again and again their customer service and workmanship has disappointed me. With this post, I am ready to conclude that they have failed me as a basement waterproofing company and the warranty on their work is of no value because their work fails to address the root cause of my rainwater intrusion problem. I consider the $6500 I paid for this work to be a donation to the basement waterproofing job economy, and I will look elsewhere for an honest company interested in resolving my real problem instead of trying to sell me a highly profitable non-solution.
Description of Work: The provider inspected multiple points of rainwater intrusion in my basement, then recommended and installed: (1) an interior french drain with sump pump and backup Basepump around three of the four sides of my basement; (2) epoxy injections (from the inside of my basement, not the outside) around the collar of my main incoming copper water pipe (another point of water intrusion during rain); and (3) an exterior seal of the outside of my house

Dear Sir, Thank you for your review. As we advised you we were unable to install your back up pump system due to the fact that you did not have room in your pit/hole to place a second pump. We highly recommend you install a proper pit/crock with a minimum of 18" in diameter and 2' deep with a stone bed around it which is a standard size for a crock/pit. The larger the pit the better. Using an open hole or a 5 gallon bucket as a crock/pit will lessen the life of your pump and allow for clogging from mud infiltration into your discharge line. We will be more than happy to install the water pressure back-up pump in the future for you once you have corrected your pit size. Again we want to thank you for your business. Office Manager

It was very easy to contact and they did get back to me. They're not plumbing experts; they really don't. I haven't been comfortable doing the job; I was stuck with them. They won't listen to my recommendations and they spend a lot of time to their wells. When they first came, they should have asked me where the water supply was so I had to re-schedule it. Then they had an issue, they hadn't install their way when they turned it on they had to re-hook up to another line. I have to pay more because it was a custom job. I just don't think they're not knowledgeable installers. The price is fair; it seemed like a good deal.

Offer suggested provider would be able to install the pump promptly. Email asked for 3 possible dates, AM or PM for installation. I provided the dates and said anytime those dates would be acceptable. Further, I said if none of the dates were available, that I needed the pump installed within a couple of weeks, as I'd already had a flood and would be away after 3/26. The office was not able to offer any appointment before April 7, saying they were so busy because of all their "big deal" offers. I will make other arrangements. I feel this provider was misleading and unprofessional.
