I never heard back from the company. Extremely unprofessional. This is the first time this has happened with an Angie's List purchase. Now to try to get a refund.
Description of Work: Nothing. I purchased the Air Quality and 2 mold sample deal for $275 and they never got in touch with me. I left 2 messages and no one ever returned my call.

Everything went well with the inspection, but there was no "tune-up" (whatever this was supposed to be). Employee was on time, as well as called 1/2 hour ahead to advise of his arrival time. He was courteous and professional. I certainly hope that my sump pumps continue to operate for several more years, but I would not hesitate to call this company if there is a problem.

Amanda, the scheduler for this company scheduled an estimate for a foundation repair on 11/20/15 and shortly after I emailed a copy of an engineer's report and general inspection for this home (a cash purchase) I intend on settling on later this month. Today (11/21/15), the estimator called at 12:30pm to ask if we could meet earlier. At that time, I told him he would have to contact the real estate agent to confirm with him because I don't have access to the home and that he is traveling a long distance from New Jersey. I told him that he should have that person's phone number and email address because Amanda had CC'd confirmations to us both the day before. Following, the estimator called back with the owner on the phone saying that since I don't own the property there would be a fee for the estimate. I explained that this was a precarious situation because this was not noted the day before and that I felt they were coercing me into a fee (that is easy for me to pay because I am purchasing the home for cash and an engineer has already assessed this minor foundation concern). The estimator then contacted the owner who indicated I could either pay the fee or cancel the appointment. I noted I would pay the fee but report the incident on Angie's List. The company replied saying in that case they are not coming at all and the owner and estimator disconnected the call. I am stunned by how they react to accountability. That is, be wary because this company appears to get defensive and engages in tricky practices. I can see a situation where they convince consumers to buy product and then coerce you into more product and disappear after you ask questions, present logic or hold them accountable. I would try other rated foundation companies and avoid this one at all costs. They seem friendly and promise discounts, but as a consumer, this isn't worth it when working with someone who treat customers so unprofessionally. In this case, it did not matter that they made a commitment, they completely disregarded that commitment using a fee that I was willing to pay as an excuse. Again, they called to ask if I could meet earlier (making it convenient for their schedule), tried to coerce me into a fee (which was never mentioned before but that I gladly offered to pay), then disconnected the call and ignore my call (sending it to voicemail) thereby cancelling/no show just 1.5 hours before the commitment. PLEASE AVOID THIS COMPANY ESPECIALLY IF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR A PROFESSIONAL AND COMMITTED COMPANY. I've owned several homes and am committed to quality work and have used Angie's List for 6-7 years and I have never encountered this before, AVOID AVOID AVOID. Try at least 7 other highly rated companies before taking the RISK of working with this one.
Description of Work: The company was to complete an estimate for a foundation repair outlined in an engineer's report and general home inspection. The provider ultimately canceled 1.5 hours before the scheduled appointment when I noted that I could not move the appointment earlier than we originally scheduled because the real estate agent giving us access to the home was traveling a long distance from New Jersey. Therefore, not only did the inspection not take place, but they cancelled at the last minute and disregarded the schedules of both myself and the agent.

Thank you for your feedback and illustrating your version of what occurred on the date of inspection. I have a strong belief that there is no such thing as negative feedback. All feedback can be used to improve our business operations. If there were no errors then there would be no room for progress. Please consider that we have been able to maintain an A rating on Angie’s List for 3 years continuously because we value our customers and treat them all with respect. I am able to take accountability for the inconvenience that transpired. According to company policy, if you are not the home owner, the Free Inspection does not apply. There should have been a $350 charged for the inspection. I made the mistake and it was not with malicious intent, most of my calls are from actual home owners and situations such as yours are rare. The conversation we had was somewhat vague; as I was told about the real estate agent at the end of the conversation, and by then the inspection fee had slipped my mind. I understand your frustration but your accusations of unaccountability are unfair to reflect our entire company. Though I take responsibility for the misunderstanding, I insist that there was no attempt to coerce you. It was not a matter of being defensive or tricky as you implied, the inspector was just simply enforcing company policy, despite my mistake. Comfort Basement is a company that cares greatly about our customers which is why our inspector went as far as to reach the owner of the company to involve him in the misunderstanding. The owner cares and over sees all operations and often speaks to our customers directly to display our personable relationship with our clients. Once the owner extended the courtesy to call you directly to explain the inspection fee, you became irate and began to argue, and he felt as though it was best to end the conversation and not allow it to reach a level of disrespect. We perform exceptional quality work and stand by our promises. All of our positive reviews from Angie’s List verify that we are a trust worthy company for over 20 years. According to the Angie’s List community there is more weight validating our professionalism than what you have claimed to be nonexistent. In regards to our inspector asking to arrive earlier than scheduled, again that is typically not an issue for home owners who are actually home. Our inspectors travel from all parts of the tri-state County and at times traffic is unpredictable, and some appoints end early, allowing them to arrive earlier than expected but ONLY if it’s ok with the home owner. We are seldom, if ever late, usually early. I can assure you, if an appointment is scheduled, it would not be at the inspector’s discretion to cancel it. If he has to wait around, he would certainly do so. The reason that the appointment was cancelled was because you had initially declined the fee, the inspector began his route away from the appointment and it was thought to be best not to engage in any further conflict with you. I understand that the inspection fee was a disappointment to you; however, we offer some of the lowest market prices for the best quality products and services compared to our competitors. I am truly sorry for your experience but I can assure you Comfort Basements integrity is stronger than what you have implied. We base our decisions on values and morals rather than personal gain. We are still here for you if needed. “To give real service you must add something that cannot be bought or measured with money, and that’s sincerity and integrity.” –D. Mr. John O. arrived on time and alerted me prior to his coming by phone. John went around the basement and inspected the walls and windows for moisture penetration, and signs of deterioration. He listened to my concerns and wrote a report and recommended an indoor french drain installation based on his professional judgment of the situation. I received the report with a schematic of my basement and his assessment as a pdf on email. He included a detailed estimate for the work proposed. I feel that I got a report and an hour of evaluation for $49 and it is fair.

the team came by originally to fix the sump, but correctly identified that the problem could be best fixed by adding a french drain inside the basement walls. My 88 yr old dad called me today, bursting with praise for the attitude, cleanliness, completeness, no-hassle, and cleanup of the job. He is a tough cookie and curmudgeon, so praise from him is quite meaningful. Even little details like covering all the walking areas beforehand with cloth, and not leaving any waste in their garbage cans were a plus. High recommendation.

We contacted Comfort Basements as a starting point in our research on foundation repair and basement waterproofing, toward a grander plan of adding on to our home. Jesse came out to visit us for a free inspection and estimate, and unbeknownst to us, some really awesome advice about how to proceed with our grander plans. While we still know that we need to waterproof and repair a portion of our foundation, Jesse honestly and openly told us that we needed to start with an architect and get our "Grand Plans" in order before he could give us any estimates on any kind of work that would need to be done, depending on what would need to be done structurally to support the addition. He also suggested somethings NOT to do in the mean time, and how we might proceed from here. While we're not working with Jesse and Comfort Basement at the moment, he will be at the top of our list when the time does come! Big thanks to him. Highly recommend!

Jesse, the owner, sent one of his business partners (John) to do a free inspection and estimate on our basement. John was very nice and extremely knowledgeable. After inspecting the basement he recommended a dual pressure relief system because of the large number of cracks that were appearing on the walls and on the basement floor. Our water table here is higher than a lot of other places, and so our foundation was under a good amount of water pressure all around it. John sent me an estimate, which was deducted by 20% because of a deal that Comfort Basement was offering. He further deducted another 10% because we were military. The job was slated for just over 10,000 dollars but ended up being only 7,800. On the day of the project Brian was sent out with his team of 5-6 men (Brian was the team leader). They explained everything that they were going to do and made sure that we were ready for it. They put a plastic barrier up between the basement door and the garage door in order to prevent any dust or particles from getting into the kitchen and dining room. The project took a total of two days. Brian kept me informed as to how things were going the entire time. He even confirmed where I wanted to sump pump drainage pipe to be placed and whether or not I was happy with where it was draining to. Brian and his team made sure that my yard was undamaged by the concrete that they were removing. They also vacuumed and cleaned everything before leaving. They were all extremely professional and they did an excellent job. After the project was complete, Brian showed me everything and explained everything to me. He even left me with some Tyvec tape in case I needed to repair any cut or holes that develop in the vapor barrier. In the end I was very pleased with the work and would gladly use Comfort Basement to help finish my basement in the future.
Description of Work: Installed a dual pressure relief system (French Drain) in the basement. Also installed a new sump pump with a water-powered backup pump. Lastly, the provider installed a vapor barrier over the walls of the basement in order to prepare the basement for being finished in the future.

The "Big Deal" water powered backup sump pump would not work in my home without additional work/cost so I decided not to proceed with the installation at this time. The people I spoke with were pleasant to deal with but I rated the overall experience a 'C' because the project never went beyond the sales phase and I cannot fairly judge the quality of the work.

After the initial inspection, the inspector discovered there was no proper sump pit installed in the basement. We always recommend the installation of a proper sump pit on order for the backup pump system to work the way it was designed to. We felt that installation in any other situation would not provide the quality work we like to give. If at any time in the future a proper sump pit is installed, we would be more than happy to honor any coupons you may have for the installation of a backup pump system, even if the sump pit itself is not installed by us. We hope you keep us in mind for any future work. Thank you for your kind consideration.

Overall, Jesse and his team were wonderful to work with. They were all very respectful and nice. The team tried to leave as much as the wiring and the floor as possible, as not to demo everything. In the demolition process, however, some of the screws for the light fixtures went missing (not a terrible thing, but a small hassle). The whole process took about a week, and the drain and the walls were fixed. Our house doesn't smell moldy anymore which is a great plus! Two small things which bothered me slightly after the fact, was that the foreman, Bryan, said he would return a window insert for our basement window, which he hasn't done yet (it keeps air from entering the basement). Also, instead of unscrewing some piping around the dryer vent, it seems that they have just ripped it out (but that was an easy fix on our end...we just got a new aluminum pipe for the dryer). The team put plastic sheeting down to protect the furniture on the first floor where they had to come in and out of to get to the basement (we don't have basement access). They also did a cursory cleaning before they left each day, which I appreciated. It wasn't a deep clean, but that wasn't expected either. Jesse offered, kindly, to help us find some contractors who could help replace the drywall/studs and retile our floor; however, his contacts were all busy and weren't able to help us. We ended up contacting some contractors through Angie's list to help us return our basement to its finished self. It has been about a week and half after the work was completed, and the system seems to be working (and we have had some crazy rain storms). Although there is a puddle of water that collects around the lid of the sump pump, which worries me slightly. I have called Jesse to ask him if that's normal, but otherwise the work was well done!
Description of Work: Originally, we had some water damage to our finished basement, and Jesse came out and gave us a quote for a French drain system and sump pump. However, once demolition started happening of our dry wall, he and his team noticed that our foundation was crumbling (removing walls, exposes scary things), and he suggested parging it with chicken wire and concrete.

When we first met with John to give us an estimate we were very happy with him because of his professionalism and promptness in answering our questions and getting back to us with the estimate. When Jesse came out the first day to view the job and to get his crew started we had a pretty good feeling that we had made the right choice in going with them, but after this our experience started to go down hill. The first day of the job was a Wednesday, the crew showed up promptly at 8 am. Thursday the crew showed up at around noon and explained that the truck they normally use had to be taken in for some kind of service so it took them a while to get a rental. Ok not a big deal at least they worked around the problem and made a good faith effort to come and do the work. On Friday no one was here at 8 am and we received a call from the office manager saying that because of the main vehicle being serviced no one would be out that day to work, as you can imagine this did not make our day, considering the day prior a rental was used. We had a chance to talk with the owner who explained that because of the weight of the stone and equipment to be used that day the rental was not an appropriate vehicle to handle the load. I suggested renting two vehicles, but at this point it was early afternoon and realistically too late in the day for any work to be done. The owner said the crew would be back out Monday to finish up the job. On Monday we had about two inches of snow from a snow shower the previous night, so I removed the snow from the driveway early in the morning for the crew to bring their van up and walk safely. At noon I gave the office a call and again was told the crew would not be out to work. To be Honest I was pretty ticked off. On Tuesday the crew showed up and began work again, about half way through the day I realized the noise coming from the basement had gotten louder. When the crew left I took a look around the basement and realized there was a hole drilled into an interior wall. I didn't think this made sense so I went upstairs and found that the hole was drilled through our library wall into the floor molding just missing my girlfriends $9,000 piano. I called Jesse and explained my frustration, not only had the job taken longer than originally expected, but now someone is drilling into interior walls and by luck that's all that happened. I expressed to Jesse that this whole experience was becoming a real nightmare and asked him to discount a little off the final price. At this point he asked if that was why I had been complaining so much, in hopes he would give us a discount... No, I was complaining because the quality of the work being done was poor, the job was taking longer than anticipated causing me to take off from work, and someone drilled an area inappropriately causing damage. He stated there would be no discounts, and he would have someone come and fix the mistake, and I didn't need to take off from work, just to make the work area accessible. There was no way I was leaving his crew alone in my home, I found that to be pretty funny all things considered. On Wednesday the job was finished and I was happy to have the work done. It has been about 7 months now and the only good thing I can say about the work is that our basement has been much more dry, for this we are thankful. I will say that if the work had been done in the summer the delay caused by the snow would not have happened, so timing did play a part in that. However, overall we would not recommend this company do work for anyone we know. Maybe my expectations were too high, maybe I was unrealistic in what I thought should happen. I look forward to Comfort Basement sharing their side of the story so that a full and accurate picture may be given of this experience.

I purchased a big deal coupon for this company. This was also not a very positive one. I find that if the owner comes and does the job they tend to be better. If they send somebody the experience is not good. Here what happened was I arranged it and then a guy called up on the phone the day before and said that he was going to come at a certain time and was that okay. He wanted to come the following day first thing in the morning about eight AM and I said no. The arranged time was around ten or eleven. A guy then calls up the previous day and said can I come at eight AM and I said no because I was still asleep, I don't want someone coming to my basement at eight AM in the morning. He then said if I had not agreed to him coming at eight AM it would have to be rescheduled. Then I said okay let's reschedule it. So I left it at that. He then calls up the next morning, he does call at about eight AM and I was asleep and by the time I grabbed the phone the call had gone. We did not connect. He then called again about ten minutes later. I then managed to pick up the phone he says I'm in the area I can come to your house now, can I. I was a little bit irritated to be honest because by that time it's the third call with this guy, I told him eight AM is too early, he has woken me up now and I had said no. He said I will do something else and I will come at ten o'clock. At ten o'clock he does not appear. He does appear closer to eleven o'clock. Then he finally comes and I then take him down to the basement and it's to repair a crack. I asked what are you going to do and he said I'm going to fill the crack in. I asked is that going to fix the problem and he says maybe not because this thing may have to be repaired from the outside. He ends up calling his boss. I talked with the boss further, what the boss was saying was that if he seals the crack which is what I paid him to do, it's not going to solve the problem. This thing will have to be fixed from the outside rather than the inside. So I then okay in that case we will have to get you back another day and he doesn't do what I paid him to do. He said it's not going to solve the problem. So basically the job has not been done. Not because the didn't want to do it but because they said it's not going to solve the problem. I need to get his boss to come out another day. I have to say that again this guy was not professional from what I tell you he wanted to come at a time of his choosing. I tell him no that's not right, he then calls me up in the morning, wakes me up, two calls, that was just not being professional.

I only got an estimate from them for the work. The cost was more than I was willing to spend at the time, but the people who came out were nice, knowledgeable, and spent a lot of time with me.
Description of Work: I bought a Big Deal from them for crawlspace crack repairs.
