They were very punctual and professional. I have a warranty on our home with American Home Shield, but due to the heat we did not want to wait on them coming out. Lowry came out and gave us an estimate of $1100.00. We said absolutely not and then called American Home Shield. They asked about the estimate we received and advised us this was extremely high and the part was actually about $250.00. I feel we were being taking advantage of by Lowry due to the extreme heat. In addition, we were quoted a trip charge of $49.00 which would be applied to the cost of the repair if we had them do the service. What they did not tell us, was that the charge was $249.00 if they did not do the work. They wrote up the bill, but we refused to pay it. The gentlemen did not argue with us, but we feel this was one more thing they did wrong.
Description of Work: We called them out to repair our air conditioning.

I chose not to use Lowry due to their (in my opinion) extremely high estimate. My brother-in-law and I installed the microwave ourselves in an afternoon for about $50 worth of parts. That included installing the new cabinet, which Lowry would not have done. Given that there were almost no parts required for the job, at $1400 they must be charging A LOT for labor. Also BEWARE: Lowry charges $49 to come out and do the estimate (which I think they apply to the job if you choose to have them do it) and they attempt to get you to join some type of regular maintenance plan (if you join they will discount the work performed, though it still came out to over $5000). Both of these were red flags in my mind, but I did not trust my instincts. I consider this a $49 life lesson. I joined Angie's List right after this mistake.
Description of Work: I called Lowry for an estimate for some electrical work. Installing a microwave over the range, a few ceiling fans, 2 new outlets, a few lighting fixture changes, and 2 switch rewires. Their estimate came to over $8000. The microwave alone was $1400 and that did not include the appliance or installing the new cabinet (to replace the existing hood).

It turns out they charge by the hour and the final price was just out of this world. The work they provided wasn't of high quality and wasn't worth the money.

Not good. Two electricians from Lowry's showed up in two vans and gave me an estimate of about $250. I asked how long it would take and they confirmed 20-30 minutes. I told them to justify the $500/hour rate. They have every procedure written down in a book. To install a power save unit is $800 to install a breaker is $100. They said they would credit my cost of the parts to their inflated rates. And since the units were already mounted, they said they would do me a favor and only charge $250. (or $500/hour) They do not charge by the hour, but by the task, and despite my requirements being 90% done already would not budge on $250. They tried the sob story of the price of gas for two vans (I never asked for two electricians). Then they wanted $49 for coming out and quoting a ridiculous price. I paid them the $49 just to make them go away. The guys were nice, it is their company policy to gouge not theirs. When I asked if they would pay $500 an hour, no response....
Description of Work: My brother is an electrician and installed a power saver unit and a surge protector over Christmas but could not do the final connection because he didn't travel with his tools. I needed Lowry's to: 1) Switch out a 30 amp breaker for a 20 amp one (provided - $12 part). 2) Connect the surge protector to the panel (surge protector was provided and already mounted). My brother estimated it would take no more than 20-30 minutes.

The representative made the appointment promptly, either the same day or the next day. The technician arrived on time and finished the work quickly. They were prompt and professional. But they wouldn't use the new GFCI we just purchased and they said that they couldn't give me a discount even if they did use our part, even though the part they did use was exactly the same as ours. Also, they wouldn't give an estimate over the phone, even though our problem was very straightforward.

I was told that installing the fan control would require too much work and be too expensive. They tried to charge me more midway through the job because they said that the fan was more difficult to install than they thought it would be. The additional charges they wanted were ridiculous and I refused to pay them. The fact that I could not get what I asked for made me very unhappy.

Excellent company. Very reliable. Arrived on time. Professional staff. Cleans up after job is completed. Did an excellent job. Very pleased with the results. Great staff! This was a three day job performed during June 2005. We are extremely pleased with the results and feel that Lowrys work prevented an electrical fire in our house as a result of their whole house inspection of all of the wiring and service panel.

Astrit, the technician sent to us by Lowry, was very courteous, honest, and professional. He was consistently on time, and he always arrived when he said he would. All of Lowry's pricing is "up front" -- so there are no surprises. The Lowry Electric member's program provides for some significant discounting, as well, and the program is worth every penny. Highly recommended.
Description of Work: The old house we purchased in Drexel Hill needed a great deal more electrical work than our home inspectors at Tri-County led us to believe. The entire upstairs needed to be rewired -- including junction boxes, etc. Lowry installed new wiring, recessed lighting, ceiling fans, an attic fan, a new exhaust and heating unit in our bathroom, some wall sconces, and fish-plates for cable throughout the house -- in addition to new porch lighting. They've done additional work since then, as well. They were always on time, careful, and very clean.

The work required was extensive because our house is old, built in 1915 and the electrical system had not been updated for decades. It was downright dangerous, in fact (lights dimming, fuses blowing, driving me nuts). I cannot say enough about this company. They inspire confidence. The technicians were always on time, and they called ahead to let me know when they would be arriving. I observed some of the work being done and it was clear that they were very skilled and knew what they were doing. They also fixed some additional things at no charge just because ''they didn't look right''. The pricing was flat rate, up-front, so there were no surprises. There was also masonry work required, i.e., drilling through a foot-thick stone wall, and this was done beautifully as well. When all was complete, it was obvious that it had been done masterfully. In fact, another contractor who was working for us recently said ''whoever did your electric did a beautiful job.'' Enough said!
Description of Work: Work was done in June of 2006 over a three day period, including: replacement of outside box/connection to power source, inside wiring/ circuit breaker system, and removal of old fuse box, which was replaced and integrated with new breakers. Installed new GFIC outlets in the basement, replaced old worn out junction boxes, and did complete inspection at the end. Installed outside grounding system.

The electrician arrived promptly at 8:30am. He gave us the price for all work up front, no estimates. He called in a second helper to move things along quickly and after 5 hours had completed all work, including some add-ons; such as the thermostat in the attic which came up while they were at our home. They were very polite, and wore shoe covers in our home. They explained all work, and made sure we were happy with what they were doing.
Description of Work: They replaced two existing ceiling fans with two we had purchased. They installed a ceiling fan we had purchased into a room that previously had no fixture. Replaced the outside porch light with one we had bought. Repaired/replaced the doorbell. Replaced the foyer light switch that controls the outside light with a timer switch and added a dimmer switch to the control for the interior foyer light. Replaced chandelier in foyer with one we purchased. Replaced kitchen chandelier with one we purchased. Repaired/replaced garbage disposal switch. Replaced thermostat for attic fan.

Beware pricing was twice what I eventually paid for the same service. There were two sets of prices if you joined there preferred program or some such thing at a additional cost of $85 then the prices were lower. Tech also tried to slip in other services such as putting in a surge protection system that were neither requested nor required. Pricing was astronomical. Also since they charged me $50 for essentially providing a inaccurate and uncompetitive estimate it was a rip-off.

I was very happy with the technicians who came and the care and service. However, the jobs are overpriced!!! It is not fair to have to pay a membership fee to get better pricing. The membership fee lasts only 1 year. The fee includes better pricing and quicker service. If I needed to use their service on a weekly basis it would be beneficial. There has to be a happy medium between service and what you have to pay for it!!!
Description of Work: Attac exhaust fan needed to be installed. Attac light with switches on 2nd floor for both. Second floor ceiling fan needed to be installed by moving current light fixture about 12'' away from attac stairs. Bathroom ceiling fan needed to be installed and current light fixture removed. LR ceiling fan needed to be installed no electric light currently on ceiling. After looking at the estimate of $4400+ w/o membership and $3400+ with a 1 year $89.99 membership I decided to become a member. However, I decided that I couldn't afford the bathroom fan and didn't go through with it. Pricing is fixed, the attac fan cost was about $1500, and the fans were $300+ each and the switches were over $200.

The electrician came to our home and wrote up an estimate for all of the projects we requested. After the estimates were written, I selected which projects I wanted to have performed that day, and they completed them while they were here. They were very professional and quick.
Description of Work: We had three projects performed by Lowry. The first job was to add a light outlet in a room that had a light switch which controlled an outlet. They moved the switch from the outlet to the overhead light mount which they installed. The second project was to correct wiring in our basement stairway. There were dual controls (at top and bottom of stairs) that would occasionally trip the power. After the electrician looked at them, he discovered they were wired incorrectly and removed one that was wired hazardously (by a former home owner). The final project was to install a dual switch in a bathroom to separate the light and the fan. Previously, both were controlled by one switch.

AFTER SWITCHING OUT ELECTRICAL OUTLETS, THERE WAS A WIRING PROBLEM SOMEWHERE IN THE CIRCUIT. AFTER BEING INITIALLY QUOTED AN ESTIMATE OF FOUR DAYS, I GOT A CALL BACK LATER THAT AFTERNOON SAYING A TECHNICIAN WAS AVAILABLE. THE SURVEY AND QUOTE IS A FREE SERVICE AND ONCE AUTHORIZED, THE TECHNICIAN GOES TO WORK IMMEDIATELY. IN THIS CASE, HE HAD IT FIXED IN UNDER AN HOUR TO OUR COMPLETE SATISFACTION. PRICING WAS ON THE HIGH SIDE AS THEY HAVE A STANDARD BOOK OF PRICES AND THIS JOB WAS SMALLER THAN MOST. IT WAS ALSO VERY MUCH APPRECIATED THAT THE TECHNICIAN SLIPPED ON PLASTIC BOOTIES TO KEEP THE CARPET FROM GETTING DIRTY.

THIS IS A VERY PROFESSIONAL CON OPERATION. THE NICE FOLDER AND THE GLITZY HANDOUTS ONLY HIDE THE EXORBITANT, RIDICULOUSLY OVERPRICED CHARGES THEY WOULD HAVE YOU PAY FOR EVEN THE MOST MUNDANE ELECTRICAL WORK IS A SHAME. WAS INITIALLY IMPRESSED WITH THE TWO REPS THAT ARRIVED -- THEY WERE PUNCTUAL, POLITE, COURTEOUS AND SEEMED KNOWLEDGEABLE; HOWEVER, THEIR PRICE FOR THE WORK WE WANTED DONE CAME TO OVER $10,000! UNLESS WE BECAME MEMBERS AND THEN WED GET A $2900 DISCOUNT. THIS LEFT US WITH A VERY BAD IMPRESSION OF LOWRYS. WE WOULD NOT CONSIDER THEM FOR ANY FUTURE WORK, NOR COULD WE RECOMMEND THEM, IN GOOD CONSCIENCE, TO ANYONE ELSE. HAD CALLED THEM TO REPLACE A KNOWN FAULTY MAIN SUPPLY BREAKER ON A PANEL THEY HAD PREVIOUSLY INSTALLED APPROXIMATELY 10 YEARS AGO. THEY ADVERTISE THAT THEY GIVE THE PRICING UPFRONT.
