+ 0 moreIt took most of the day but at the end it was good. The job was only going to take about an hour or so but there was a problem from the start. Main shut off valve did not turn off the water. We had to wait for the water co. to turn off the water at the street. The water co. gave them an updated water meter to replace the older one. They installed the meter and added a double check valve. Then they finally finished my outside fauset. So it was costly but I had new workable valves and an updated meter. So all was well.
Description of Work: I had Lowry come out to do the outside fauset replacement.As it turned out he replaced the main shutoff valve because it did not shut off the water to the house. He also added a double check valve and tied in the new water meter. After all that I finally got my outside fauset.

+ -1 moreLowry is a very professional company. Well dressed electrician with booties- did an inspection. He then quoted me for some jobs- which I could apply my already paid for special to. The quotes were so expensive compared to another electrician - 4 times the cost- that it was cheaper to forfeit the money and pay someone else on top of that. I am sure they are very professional but I could not justify the cost. They quoted total about $1500- I got it done for about $350.

+ -1 moreI had a variety of projects to estimate, most I knew were going to be way over the big deal offer. The salesman seemed to focus on the ones he was most interested in and wanted me to sign the estimates even though I was clear I wasn't interested after seeing the costs. The few smaller scale projects far exceeded to big deal.
Description of Work: Basically I paid $50.00 for them to get into my house a try to sell me overpriced services. They use a standard list of prices for each element of a job. This appears to run up the price. Example: To install 1 receptacle on the first floor, with an open basement ceiling below and access to a box to get power about 10 feet from the outlet was estimated at over $800. Wow. It would be hard for me to find a job cheap enough to use my Big Deal allowance. My experience reflected poorly on Angie's List too. I had been impressed previously but would not try other Big Deal offers going forward. p.s. not sure about date but was in recent months.

The estimate was ridiculously high, (over $700 to install a single switch) and the estimator told me that I should have someone else do the work since Lowry was very expensive. The estimator suggested that he replace a circuit breaker and that it would cost me nothing since he was already there. I agreed. I did not realize he used my coupon for $50 and the cost was not really nothing as he stated. The "Free" estimate ended up costing me the $50 I paid for the coupon. I felt like I got conned.

+ 0 moreLowry installed a HVAC system along with a hot water heater. A day after installation a PVC pipe started to leak and they had to come back to the house to reinstall the pipe due to shoddy installation. On top of that, when I purchased the system I purchased the next step up due to the rebates that I was quoted, which would make the system only $1000 more since Carrier had an $800 rebate, a tax rebate of $450 and a Peco rebate of $600. After they installation was completed Frank told me that in three months my rebate would come in the mail. Three months passed and I had to call Carrier which informed me that they never even filed my rebate request. As soon as they had my money they couldn't be bothered to complete my paperwork. So I now have to wait another six weeks due to their negligence.

Description of Work: I had been experiencing some flickering lights for sometime and it seemed to be getting worse. I had even called the electric service company who could find no problem on their end. When I saw Angie's list add for an electrical service inspection by Lowry's, I took it and am glad I did. The electrician spent nearly two (2) hours here. No flickering lights at first but when he had me turn on all the lights, it started. I might add that the electrical panel box looked like a rat's nest; hard to trace wires and poorly marked circuit breakers. The electrician finally traced the problem down to a circuit breaker. Like so many cases, the breaker must have been installed by an amateur electrician ( I am not original owner). The Lowry electrician showed me where it was "arching" and said it was improperly installed with too many wires connected to it.

+ -1 moreAfter signing up for the deal to have athe hose faucet changed, I received a call within 24 hours to schedule the service. They arranged to come the day after I called! The day of the appointment, the serviceman called prior to arriving to confirm I was home and arrived on time. He was very friendly efficient. When I asked, he was happy to check the faucet on the back of the house to see if it needed replacement - it did not. Finally, before entering the house to sign the papers, he put on booties --- I love that!! Overall a great experience!

Bryan arrived promptly at the promised time. He had a professional appearance and manner about him. He went to work quickly and completed the work in a professional manner. He reviewed what he had done with me and offered one or more service arrangements which could be purchased. I declined the offers. During the tune-up he indulged my curiosity, and explained all of the things he was checking in addition to his evaluation of the unit's condition. Despite all of the additional explanation I asked for, the service was relatively quick.

They're a little bit pricey but that's the only thing I would say. Other than that they're very top-notch and a good company. I had some problems with something unrelated to the deal and they did a nice job straightening it out though it had nothing to do with the electrical package we purchased. I found them to be a reputable, responsible, outfit and they were interested in feedback on their people, positive or negative. This is a good group. They come in and are well trained, they wear booties, they're on time, are very professional and they clean up after they leave etc. I'm very impressed.

+ 0 moreMy air conditioning system was just over one year old. The technician arrived promptly. He was very personable. He completed the inspection and said everything looked good. Unfortunately, in June the unit broke down, and I called the original installer who advised me that the filter should have been replaced at the beginning of the season. I did ask the Lowry technician for an estimate for an electric hot water heater. He spent considerable time explaining several options, but his estimate was the highest of the three that I received.

+ -1 moreArrived on time. Checked out the issue. Told me that it is very difficult to replace the faucet. Told him what was going on. He unscrewed the cap and showed me the shot washer (I knew what the issue was already. I wanted a better hose faucet). He did not have the replacement. I had some extra from replacing one in a similar hose faucet in the back yard. Offered if he wanted to inspect other things in the house. I politely refused his offer.
Description of Work: Got a deal through Angie's List big deal to replace leaking outdoor hose faucet. The plumber did not replace the faucet citing the level of difficulty to replace but instead replaced the leaking part. To add insult to injury, I had to provide the part to replace it (had some spare with me). Could have saved myself the money doing it myself. Wish they were more honest about it.

+ -1 moreBought an Angie's List " Big Deal" for $49 for outdoor hose faucet replacement. I had used this company twice before so I was not concerned about purchasing the offer. The offer did say that the frost free hose faucet was available at an additional cost and when called about the upcharge they wouldn't give me the amount over the phone- said someone will give me the estimate when thy come out. Well- they came-- about 1/2 hr late- and the additional cost was quoted as $387.33......and that was with their member 25% discount! WHAT A JOKE!.. I even showed him a receipt I had from the one I had one replaced last year for $242 from a different company... Needless to say- I didn't have them do the work... will NEVER contact them again. Looks like I am out the $49 I payed for the "BIG DEAL"!
