O'Neill Masonry & Keystone Chimney Restoration

Went great. Work looks good. Guys that came out were nice and efficient. Would recommend them and we'd use them again.

We called O'Neill Masonry for an estimate on repairing our front steps. They were rapidly deteriorating due to the past 2 harsh winters and faulty construction by the previous owner of your home. Jim responded quickly and came by for an estimate. The estimate was provided in record time (24 h) and was $1500 below a competing estimate. Jim called me a few days before his crew came out and we got everything scheduled. His crew showed up on time and worked efficiently. They removed the old steps and flower box, rebuilding the box and pouring aggregated concrete for the steps. They also put an attractive stone veneer on the flower box wall. The end result is extremely nice. Everything was well-built and attractive. The crew were friendly and cleaned up after themselves. We are going to get them back for a walkway and some fireplace work. I would highly recommend O'Neill Masonry due to their professionalism and quality of work.

We contacted Jim for a consultation on what to do about our chimney, which had been steadily losing its stucco finish and was down to the brick over the roofline. We had received proposals from other masonry companies that seemed excessive in terms of the extent of the restoration and the cost. Jim put our minds at ease regarding the severity of the situation. He did not try to make it more than it was or sell us on unnecessary work. He outlined two options, being clear that purely functionally, we only needed to do the roofline up, but it would aesthetically be nicer to do the whole chimney. We thought the price was reasonable to do the whole chimney so that is what we selected. Jim was very responsive, bringing several sample stucco boards by the house. He always responded promptly to messages / emails. The work itself was performed skillfully. He stated in the proposal that our plants, trees and roof would be protected (we have a tree right up against the chimney) and this was the case. It was done very cleanly and for work that is potentially very messy, you would never know they were here. The finished work looks very nice.

Fantastic - they will be my first stop for any future Masonry. Jimmy was exceptionally responsive and available to come to our home, and communicated effectively as to project timing. His design suggestions were right on, and the final result looks fantastic. He really shined in handling of complications in the project from additional non-masonry repairs that interrupted his work - helped us connect to contractors, stayed in touch during thowe repairs, completed his portion promptly once able, and remain in contact for questions and consultation. Jimmy has shown commitment to the long-term success of his work!

Absolutely the best experience I've ever had with a service provider! Jimmy really cars about his customers and the quality of work. I'd had some poor wrk performed by another contractor and Jimmy designed a solution that was cost effective and very attractive. What impressed me about Jimmy was that when he first saw the job, which required both masonry and flashing work, he told me that once he touches the chimney, he's responsible for everything. That's exactly what happened. He found a great roofer who did the flashing but he was the one stop person for the entire job. He constantly gave me updates on schedule and could not have been more accessible. His team was extremely professional and courteous and they did excellent work. Jimmy monitored the project and would check in th me frequently to make sur everything was going well. He is also very focused on clean up each night and was meticulous when he did work. I would most highly recommend O'Neil Masonry to anybody!

So, I'm back with another review for O'Neill masonry. I wrote a super negative review earlier when we had major trouble getting a response for a problem with a large patio created by O'Neill about 2 years ago. Well, things have really turned around. Response time was great and the work was flawless. Pat is really an artist--an old fashioned mason. So, O'Neill has totally changed my opinion and I'm back to thinking he's great. Our patio is perfect and the other repair work around our house after the brutal winter--excellent.

This is an update to an earlier review. At first we thought everything was just fine-- we were super pleased. It is a pretty patio--work was timely and the crew was nice. We paid additional funds so that water drainage would be efficient. Now a year has passed and we noticed that water was not draining properly. The landscaper who was working tried to plant around the patio only to find out that there are major areas of solid cement that extend far beyond the base of the patio making both any significant planting or proper drainage impossible. We contacted O'Neill immediately and he said that he would remedy the problem. I was actually surprised after receiving an apology from him for forgetting about us, that he now will not respond to email or text. And we even had more masonry work that we were planning to do with him. All I can say is proceed here with great caution. Don't settle up until you are sure everything is just right because he won't fix it.

Jim and his guys did a very nice job, when they said they would, and for a good price. Our front porch/patio had sunk by a few inches at one and the stone top and concrete base were cracked and unsafe. They removed about 1/3 of the porch, filled and tamped the ground, poured a new slab tied into the existing slab and set the revved stone with new matching pieces as needed on top. It looks great. They also removed our side steps (which were a bad layout) and put in a new concrete steps and cut and reset the ground slate around it. Also looks great and now much easier to get in and of the door thanks to the extra large top step/area. That also patched a hole in our stone wall. Great work, done fast and by nice guys. I would definitely recommend them.

Jim and his team were terrific! So pleasant, professional and punctual. Their work was top notch--and careful. They left the site better than when they arrived. Jim has an artistic eye and went the extra mile to make sure the replacement copings matched the rest of my aging pre-cast concrete fence. Even my babysitter mentioned how great it looked after they finished. I had used another mason from Angie's List and he did sloppy work--the copings didn't match and the steps were not flush! I wish I had gone with Jim first. I'm extraordinarily picky--and he lived up to my expectations.

I could not have had a better experience! Jim O'Neill and his crew were wonderful to work with from the first meeting to obtain an estimate until the project was completed. Jim returned my initial phone call promptly and showed up for the estimate appointment on time -- unlike other masonry firms I've worked with in the past that were either impossible to reach or never showed up for a scheduled appointment. The O'Neill Masonry crew were professional, courteous, punctual, and even completed my project a day earlier than planned. When they were finished, there was no evidence that they had been there EXCEPT for the beautiful new walk way and border they created! They cleaned up and left the surrounding area as neat as a pin. I would happily use them again for any future masonry projects at my home.

The guys arrived to start prep work over the weekend and then the concrete truck arrived on Tuesday. There was a few truckloads of rock needed as well as 2 batches of concrete in order for the floor to be raised up to level. The whole team was great - friendly, respectful and efficient. The floor looks great -- we couldn't be happier. Definitely recommend Jimmy and his crew.

Very responsive to my request for an estimate, very patient with questions. The price seemed high to me at first but I got other estimates and they were spot-on. The work looks great. They did leave a spot bare that they had to come back for, and they accidentally took my garden hose when they cleaned up, but they quickly remedied those two problems. I had a very good experience with this company.

Excellent and clean job. Called to say they were available about 1 week early. Were in and out in a few hours and the repair blends invisibly with the existing walls. they even color matched! Absolutely would recommend to others.

This finished product is absolutely amazing!!!! Jimmy added some extra special touches that really made this the most beautiful walkway and entranceway I have seen. It matches our historic home so well one would think it was the original structure. The workmen were wonderful as well. The time, care and precision involved just amazed me. This is the reason I hired Jimmy. He really knows how to plan out, execute and complete a job. There were no shortcuts, no time or energy spared to give us the look we dreamed of. Exceptional work and insight!! I have some other jobs in mind and I will definitely be asking Jimmy for his expertise once again. Thanks Jimmy!

OUTSTANDING job!!! Jimmy was very responsive to our request for an estimate, worked with us to fine-tune the details, sent a complete and detailed estimate and was very flexible with the timing to accommodate other renovations we were having done prior to the masonry work. All of this on top of a very fair and reasonable quote. A few details- We bought the house a year ago and have been undergoing major renovations since that time. We live on a tiny private road with VERY difficult neighbors in cottages that are being cataloged for historical designation. This is a very challenging environment for contractors. Our most difficult neighbor, true to form, yelled at the crew, made threats, took photos of them, reported them to the Borough and was very abusive. The crew remained professional and cordial throughout. The O'Neil crew worked quickly, quietly, cleanly and with respect for our neighbors and our property. They did not waiver from our agreement and checked-in regularly to make sure we were happy with the progress they were making and to ensure they were bringing our vision to life. We had two projects done at one time. Project #1: We had a new winding path built from the street to the front door, a new front door step installed, and path built from the front door to the side driveway. The paths are poured concrete with brick pavers laid in a basketweave pattern. The step up from the street (to enter through the gate) and the step down (our lawn slops toward the house) in the middle of the path are edged with blue flagstone. The front step is brick with a blue flagstone "door mat" edged in brick. It is stunning. The lines, cuts, and balance are really a work of art. Every neighbor on the street (except for the complainers on the other side of our driveway) have stopped by to tell us how beautiful our new pathways look and to admire the work of the O'Neil crew. Compliments all around on the quality of the work and the professionalism of the crew. Project #2 was the demolition of the flagstone steps at our side entrance that were very wide, sweeping, poorly built and encroaching on the driveway. We had the steps demolished from the original pad (would have been a single wide set of old stone steps instead of the mess someone added to the original pad), had the pad widened and turned into a side balcony (once the iron rail is installed). This required the O'Neil crew to match the mortar of the older flagstone to the new repair work and to tooth in new pieces of flagstone to eliminate lines of differentiation between old and new. The mortar has dried and you can barely tell the difference. Most visitors will not be able to tell. As an afterthought, to protect our new wrought iron fence, we asked Jimmy to bring some boulders to strategically place on the outside fence. We discussed the color and size, and voila! they appeared. Just as what we wanted. We couldn't be happier with the work, HIGHLY recommend O'Neil Masonry and are looking forward to working with Jimmy O'Neil and his crew on the repair to our fireplace. You will not be disappointed.

Went extremely well -- as expected. I've used Jimmy O'Neill and his team in the past with great success, and this time around was no different. The guys worked closely with our general contractor on key part of our home rehab project and got it done quickly, professionally, and with high quality at a fair price. I don't know that I'll need concrete work in the future, but if I do, calling Jimmy first will be a no brainer. It's an outstanding company that I'd recommend to anyone.

UPDATE: Jim O'Neill owner of O'Neill Masonry was extremely ill during the three months we had waited for service however immediately after he recovered he inspected the problem and began repairs in three days. The problem was corrected to our satisfaction. The new flagstone walkway and foundation appeared OK at time of installation. Mortaring of the joints occurred during a heavy downpour washing the cement out of some of the joints. Joints were repaired the following week and we were assured they were OK. Mortar joints start to fail after the first year. By the third year we phoned Jim O'Neill owner of O'Neill Masonry to look at the joints. He indicated that it was late in the season and he would look at them the following spring. We then emailed Mr. O'Neill indicating the problem and sent photographs of the failures. Mr. O'Neill responded by email stating he would be out the following day to look at the failures. The following day Mr. O'Neill emailed he had been delayed and would inspect the job within the next few days. Two weeks later we again emailed Mr. O'Neill who responded by email that he had forgotten about us but was working nearby and would stop over. After four weeks we again emailed Mr. O'Neill who has stopped responding to our emails.

Jim's workers arrived on time, and had the mesh wire on the walls the first day. The next two days they jack hammered the basement floor, laid the drain pipe, and backfilled. After the township inspection, the cemented the perimeter where the drain was laid, and installed the sump pump. Finally, the walls were given a smooth plaster finish. On the last day, everything was cleaned, and the basement has never looked better. I would highly recommend Jim and his crew.

My experience with Jimmy was very good and very professional. He came to take a look at the project and gave me a quote right away. He understood that I wanted to maintain the integrity and the look of the existing historical stonework and suggested a material that, although would cost more than concrete, would provide the best match in terms of color and texture. He applied a few different color samples so that we could all agree on the closest match. I've worked with other masons who told me they would try their best to match the existing color but really didn't do much to make this happen and the results showed. Jimmy made this a priority and went out of his way to make sure we ended up with a close match. He patiently answered all my questions and responded quickly to my emails and texts. His workers showed up on time, set up scaffolding carefully around the plantings, covered up the plants, and cleaned up the property well at the end of the day. They were honest enough to tell me that despite the care they took to not crack any of the clay roof tiles while they were working, a couple tiles ended up cracking and Jimmy offered to pay for the cost of replacing them. I have finally found a mason I can trust to do a good job! I plan to use O'Neill Masonry again and would highly recommend them to anyone.

Jim and his crew were terrific. The professionalism and craftmanship were absolutely superb. Jim was here every day. O'Neill Masonry is my first choice for masonry and concrete work. Jim and his crew have my highest recommendation.

Although Jim has not yet done any masonry work for us, I am already completely impressed with his professionalism and service. We were under contract to purchase a late-Victorian row house in Fairmount, and our inspector estimated that one wall of the property needed $40,000 worth of masonry work. This ended up being a major sticking point in our deal, so we needed to have a specialist come out to confirm this estimate. I called 7 masons and Jim was the only one to pick up directly. He was friendly, professional and extremely accommodating from the very beginning. We were on a tight schedule contractually and he fit us into his own busy schedule within a few days. It can be hard to get contractors to come out just to provide an estimate on a house that you don't actually own yet, but Jim was super helpful and friendly about it. The estimate he gave us was very surprising: he told us that the brick was in beautiful condition and should not be touched. $0 work needed! My boyfriend and I were very impressed with Jim's knowledge and appreciation of historic brickwork and with his honesty and generosity. Even though by his own assessment his services weren't needed at our property, he offered to provide advice/help anytime we needed it, "day or night." Our deal went through in part because of Jim's help, and we're very grateful to him. We ended up separately getting an estimate from him on putting a french drain system into our new basement. We look forward to having O'Neill Masonry do this work for us shortly, and in the meantime I will recommend the company whenever I get the chance.

The work was exquisite the price could not be beat. we are completely satisfied and would recommend this company to anyone needing a mason.

From the first encounter with Jimmy, we had a great experience. He is professional, friendly and accommodating. We were provided all information regarding how the work would be done, what the best options would be and possible cost-saving techniques, and were given a reasonable estimate for the necessary work but had to post-pone service due to other unexpected expenses at the house. He kept in touch with us via email at our request at very respectful intervals (once every few months), and when we were ready to do the work he honored the same estimate as initially submitted. Once on site, the men were efficient with setting up scaffolding, careful to limit any damage in the garden beds; friendly, neat and unobtrusive with excess noise (no loud or obnoxious music playing!), The final appearance is beautiful! We had forgotten how nice the house could look without cracks and chunks of stucco missing from the facade! We would recommend Jimmy without reservation.
