Schaffner Maintenance

The experience was fine. I used them a year and a half ago. The price was reasonable. They came out and did what they needed to promptly. They did a very nice job. It was great. It was a very good experience.

They were punctual and I will use them again in the future.

The only reason I used them is they were in my neighborhood and they were doing work at another person's house. I approached them as to fixing a few things that I needed on the outside of my house. It was something that was done on a spur of the moment. As they finished up their job across the street they were able to come and do the little stuff I wanted. It was nothing extensive nothing inside the house it was just something that I couldn't do myself like get up on ladders and stuff. If I get some work done I will probably seek our three or four different companies and they may be one of the companies that I will put down and see how much they're going to charge, that's if I have a major project. I would definitely get a quote from them if I need work done in the future.

They were not only able to respond quickly but were also able to order whatever they needed to order and get it within a week. They were the only guys that could meet that kind of a time line. If I was still in Pittsburgh I would have used them again when needed.

These guys were great! We had been trying to get someone to complete our list of small jobs for over a year. I called Schnaffer Maintenance. They came out two days later to give a quote, provided the quote within a couple of days and performed the work a week later. Everyone was prompt, honest and professional. They even took the time to poke holes in the ceiling tiles he replaced so that the texture matched that of the existing tiles. We will definitely call them again and will recommend them to anyone.

Still waiting for them to be able to come out, when weather permits, to reconnect my heat cable.

Dave came on in short notice, as quoted, and on the day I needed him there since the job had to be coordinated with the management of the apartment complex. He was very helpful in making suggestions and listenting to what I needed done. As a plus, Dave preserved the old doorframe in case the landlord requires the apartment to be put back to its original condition - that showed a lot of thoughtfulness and skill, I think.

He did a very good job. I was pleased with his work and I would definitely use him again.

I was quoted $680 for the equivalent of painting two entire walls AND I PROVIDED ALL THE PAINT!! One of the areas needed some patching. Since this was a handyman service, I did not originally expect a terrific job. I had just had my house interior painted, but a old roof caused some water damage. I had difficulty getting a painter to perform the small job, so in that respect I was glad that Schaffner Maintenance agreed to do it. The price estimated seemed high, but on all their estimates, it said that if it seemed high, it was so an excellent job could be done. Because of my desperation in this case, I accepted it and assumed that the pricing was ok, especially if it was the "excellent job" I was lead to expect. I only lived about a half-hour from Dave's office, so there could not have been a large travel cost. After completion, much of the job looked ok. The worker, for some reason, told me he was not a painter by trade, but rather, a carpenter. He seemed to be pleased that the job went ok for him. He said that Dave Schaffner, the owner, taught him how to paint. This did not instill confidence in me. In anycase, I looked it over and it initially seemed ok. The painter, after the fact, said that a certain primer would have blocked a water stain in the living room ceiling. Dave's receptionist, who was the only bright spot, said that the painter would get the correct paint if I did not have it, as I was not sure I had anything for that, but the painter did not say anything unitl the work was done. The stain still showed through after the work. Above the family room door, where you could see when walking up the stairs, the white trim the worker had painted, even after he checked it twice, had a large brown stain in the middle. So for those two reasons, the same worker came out again and he fixed the door frame paint. The leak stain in the ceiling had disappeared after the paint dried, but I did not know that until he visited again. He left me a paint brush this time, which indicated to me that if I found another problem, it was up to me to fix. My main complaint was where water had leaked into a wall in my upstairs den and had caused the wallpaper that was painted over to puff out and form holes. Eventually, I noticed a bunch of spots where he had left nicks in the drywall and it was irregular. It appeared to me that he simply ripped off the wallpaper and painted right over it without smoothing. He also left an area near the trim all bunched up from the water damage that he did not fix. That you could see all the way across the room. He also did not paint the area behind the nearby doorframe and he left cracks in the drywall there. I tried to fix the area behind the doorframe myself, and I was partially successful. I had hired Schaffner Maintenance so I would NOT HAVE TO PAINT! I had expected Schaffner Maintenance to do a better job and was extremely disappointed. I think that Dave would benefit from hiring more competent painters. Some of the painting was "fair", so I did not rate the job an "F". The only plus was the receptionist, who was very helpful and professional. After the initial estimate, most of my inquiries were given from the receptionist to Dave, and back through the receptionist and I never talked to Dave about the work again. Maybe something was lost in translation.

I called several handymen and Schaffner had the best price and time frame for installation. While it took a couple of calls to get on the schedule, Schaffner met its promise to install the mail box before Christmas. I am very please with the work performed by Schaffner Maintenance.

We are waiting on the weather, and are still trying to make some decisions on what exactly we want him to do. So far everything has been great.

It depends on who works for them and who you get from the crew. If you get the one guy, he is great. If you get two younger guys, they are not worth the crap. One guy who came was good. He brought another guy and they were not good. I had asked them to do some brick work. The brick guy entailed talking to another guy who did brick work. He negotiated a separate contract. He did a good job. But he ended up being a crap and charging me $1000 more. He replaced some bricks in the chimney, pointed the chimney, and ripped up the outside of the whole bedroom wall. He charged me $3400. Dave Schaffner is the owner. Pete was great and I would recommend him to anyone. Pete and Dave are good guys. If I have to get something done, I would tell Dave that if he or Pete comes to do the work its fine. I don’t want anybody else.

Dave arrived in a timely manner and was knowledgeable and suggested alternatives. His estimate was reasonable. The scheduled start date took place as promised. The contractors arrived on time and were friendly, neat and professional. They communicated their plan of daily activities and kept us posted as to their progress. When our supplier did not provide materials on time, the Schaffner team was flexible in their rescheduling. The final results exceeded our expectations. I would use Schaffner Maintenance again for such renovation or remodeling work.

We have used this company for many projects and have always been happy with the quality and value of the work. This time, they ripped out and hauled away old pavers and poured a new concrete patio for us, and also replaced several windows (we are gradually replacing our old drafty windows as we can afford new ones). The job was nicely done and they cleaned up after themselves. The year before that, they replaced the bay window in our kitchen, which was a big job and again very nicely done.

They were very responsive and completed the work as expected. There was a little miscommunication between myself and the office staff, but it was easily cleared up.

The process went quite well. They were prompt in visiting our home and providing a detailed estimate. The carpenters were also prompt, friendly and did what I feel was a very good job overall. The ONLY criticism I have about the whole process is that I feel they could have taken a little better care in cleanup and some finishing details inside. Specifically, there is a gap in the floor where the ice box was located where a filler such as wood needs to be placed. They were however aware that we are in the process of remodeling the kitchen and will replace the floor. All of this said, they did a good job and I would use them again in the future.

They did an excellent job. The price included the glass block material but not the grab bars. They were very professional, thorough and tidy. The job was quoted to me long before it was done. They had told me that they would schedule the job as soon as possible but then I did not hear from them for over a month. I sent them an e-mail and asked whether they were still interested in doing the work and they called me immediately and came out the next day.

They always do an excellent job. We've used them many times.

The workers arrived on time and were very polite and professional. They took care to cover my carpet and cleaned up after the work was complete. The quality of work was excellent and the crew was finished in less than two days. I will use them again.

Their price was reasonable, but I can?t remember what it was. We compared it to other companies offering similar services and it was reasonable. They did a really good job. They were very responsive. They came out right away to look at it. They gave us an estimate that was clear and precise. They were also willing to revise the estimate on the basis of the findings of our structural engineer and followed his recommendations accurately. They were personable. It seemed like they knew what they were doing. They were professional. They cleaned up well after themselves. They were careful. They tried to limit the dirt that was generated by the project. They looked at some other things that weren?t a part of the job, but they told us that the space under our basement was packed down. They drilled out the concrete to put in the footers. So we were concerned about that and that was kind of like an extra thing they did for us. Overall, it was a very good experience. We would definitely use their services in the future too.

My experience with them was good. I had contacted them in July 2010 and it took a couple of months for them to get back to me. I had to call them a couple of times. But, once they got started they did everything the way I wanted it to be done. The only problem that I faced was a rainy weather otherwise there was no problem at all. I would definitely use them again for electrical works. I had used them earlier as well for minor works like repairs and siding. I never had a problem with them.

I called and placed a request to have someone come and look at my front door that I was no longer able to dead bolt. The door had shifted and no longer lined up with the lock. Jennifer stated that this probably could be fixed during a service call, and that would cost $85.00. If the job was bigger, they would provide me with an estimate prior to doing any work. We did not schedule an appointment as Jennifer said they could probably work us in between of after other scheduled jobs. Within a week, I received a call that they could be out to look at the door within a few hours. Pete showed up, got the door realigned and then also made some adjustments to the screen door. All was accomplished within about 1 hour. I've had Pete here before, and he is very friendly and explains what he is doing so that even I can understand what is going on. The charge was as stated in the initial call - $85.00. I only gave the price a rating of B, because I know I could have gotten a friend to look at this, for Free, but they are not as dependable as the folks at Schaffner.

They couldn?t do my job and they said it was out of their scope. Someone came but then someone emailed me to say they couldn?t give me a quote. The guy that came was professional, although he didn?t ask very many questions. The people that we found to do the job said it wasn?t very difficult.

They did the work over several weeks. They were punctual. A couple of miscues with ordering the new door. The project length was longer than expected because they did not order the door in advance as requested. We noticed when they finished painting the bay window that they had actually missed an entire section. However, they did come back and fix the paint in a timely manner.

Schaffner Maintenance were very professional. The job lasted three days. The guys came early each day and cleaned the site at the end of the day. After completing the job, I noticed several things that I wanted corrected. They came back within several days and corrected these problems. I was told if I there were any other issues, just to give them a call. Thankfully, there were none.
