I have been using them for years. I have a yearly contract with them, so it is included in the contract. They prompt, they do what they say they will do, they show up when they are supposed to, and they do a good job. The pricing is about average, and they do a good job.

It?s a good idea to try a contractor when he has a ?Deal? because then you can determine through first-hand experience and at lower cost whether or not you want to continue a business relationship with that contractor. Burkholder?s employs techs that are courteous, pleasant and knowledgeable. Support staff at the office, however, leave an awful lot to be desired. They are misinformed, and as a consequence, first, send a tech to a site with the wrong paperwork and, second, are unable to resolve the tech?s questions via phone. This in turn creates an uncomfortable situation for the field tech and a more so uncomfortable situation for the customer. I purchased two ?Deals:? one for my son and one for myself. Two different households and two different locations. Both locations have a gas-fired furnace. Yet, at redemption the validity of one was questioned. I did not receive, even after asking, the CO detector for the second location. Scheduling with this organization was a nightmare. The ?Deals? were purchased on 10/21/13 and the first available date to do the work at both sites was 12/12/13. The work at one site was completed that day, but the other had to be rescheduled because the tech assigned to this work was having a problem with his truck. Another tech couldn?t pick up the job because there were too many no-heat calls from customers on contract. The work was rescheduled for 12/23/13 between 2:30 pm and 4:00 pm. As expected, he didn?t show up till 4:45 pm. I did get a call at 4:00 pm saying that he?d be late. (Thanks for the advance notice.) Several days later, I called the Service Manager to inquire about the CO monitor that was part of the second ?Deal? and not delivered. He promised he would have it delivered that day or definitely by the close of business the next day. I finally got the unit TWELVE days later ? but only after interaction with the owner. The owner did attempt to make amends by offering a $25 certificate redeemable on future services. Bottom line: Even if customer reviews are reasonably good, take the opportunity to try a contractor out at lower cost through a ?Deal.? Expect, however, to be at a very low priority.

They did not keep my service appointment.
Description of Work: NOTHING! I retained Burkholders a year ago for heat pump service which was okay. Then they sold me a contract for yearly maintenance. I received a bill and paid promptly . I called them for an appointment and they set me up for service on Dec. 8th approximately one month later. On Dec. 7th the afternoon before my service they called and said they needed to reschedule the service and they couldn't do it until next February. I told them by that time winter would be near over. Apparently they have more business than they can handle and don't care how they treat customers. I asked for a refund.

I called for oil furnace maintenance because my domestic hot water coil was clogged. On the phone the cost was $300. The guy can here said said it would be cheaper to buy the annual maintenance contrace for $265, and then the discounted cost to clean the coil will be $38, discounted cost with the plan. When he gave me the bill, I was charged $536 total. The coil clean was not $38 but $338. Yikes, a $300 on phone estimate costing $536.

Dale worked by himself most of the time disconnecting the old oil burner and installing the new one. The job took 2 or 3 days. When he needed help moving the units around and moving the oil tank, other men came to help. The job went well and the new burner works well after a couple of adjustments.

My original contact with Burkholder's from this site did not go well. I got no response from my email amd had to call later to get to speak to some one. Once the ball got rolling, Burkholder's was very knowledgable about the system I was interested in and went over the process with me before hand. We walked all around the house discussing my expectations and he listened to my input as well as explaining the limits of the system. The installation wentfairly well. I did call the day after about two leaks but they got there the same day and fixed the problem. The last invoice that Burkholder's sent me after I had made the last payment showed there was still a balance. When I called to straighten it out, I could not reach anyone. I called again the next week and got 20 questions from Liz who frankly was wasting my time. Communications with this company rates an D but if you can get past that, the price and service are good.

They had come out and given us a quote last year, and then we decided we were gonna do it again this year so we got a quote from them and another company, and then when we decided to go with Burkholder's, he actually wanted us to come back because he had gotten new information and new equipment that he thought he could use in our house because we have an older house. And then he came back through and then said he would have it done by Friday, but he didn't do it on Friday. I called Monday, he said he would send it to me that evening, but I still hadn't been given any quote and that was probably a week and a half if it's not two weeks ago now.

Called on Wednesday for service and was told they were busy and was unable to schedule an appointment until the following Tuesday. They did say that I would be put on a waiting list and if an earlier time was available that I would be notified. I called to confirm on Monday and was told that I was on a waiting list for Tuesday and that they could not guarantee service on Tuesday. I cancelled the service call and will not do business with this company again.

Dave, an owner who does the estimating was very nice to come out several times in the past year for an estimate, only because we were undecided on the extent of the replacements and duct work; 3 times is a charm. He gave us a reasonable price for what we needed. Because we needed a new duct system to help our a/c be more efficient, in part, we knew Burkholder was the best for our job. They manufacturer their own ductwork in-house so they can customize almost any part. Plus, the quality of the ductwork, with the reinforced edges and all is unlike the cookie-cutter ductwork you get elsewhere. They also very nicely sealed all the seams, unlike another hvac contractor we used several years back, which work was sloppy and air could escape everywhere. Another hvac contractor recently saw the work Burkholder did and commented on the quality of the ductwork as well as the connections made to the furnace for the gas line. I felt good about our decision. The 2 employees on the job, including Steve as in-charge, were very professional and courteous. Their supervisor Justin is very experienced and knowledgeable, and a totally easy person to deal with. Once the install was scheduled, he was our main contact person and was always available to address questions or concerns and made sure that the work was done properly and/or corrections were made, if necessary. Overall, we believe we made the best choice going with Burkholder for a relatively big improvement in our house.

They had good reviews on Angie's List and so I chose them. They provided very strong customer service. They were very punctual. They followed up a lot. The guys who came in were very professional and answered questions. The guy in the project team kept me in the loop of things before they even started. He called me back to make sure everything was okay. Now I looking at them for a generator but I am also going to price it out. The service was very positive.

Gas furnace broke during sub-freezing weather. Called Burkholder's during normal business hours (9:15am on Friday). Receptionist was very pleasant and placed us in the service queue for the day. We were notified at that point that there would be an $85 diagnostic/trip charge. About 4 hours later, we received word that someone was en route. The technician, Marc, notified us that a part needed replacement, but that he would have to go and pick up the part, and that there was a second trip-charge for going to get the part: $105 (this was in addition to the original trip charge for the diagnostic service). We were a little dismayed that we had to pay a "trip charge" for the technician to retrieve the necessary part, and we were a little confused as to the seemingly arbitrary price of said trip charge. On our receipt, it is listed as an item with a numeric code, but no description...just the price, $105. The $85 is listed as "diagnostic/trip charge". We offered to go and pick up the part, but were told the technician had to do that in order to get the contractor's price for the part. Marc was back a little over 15 minutes later, and the entire service - from diagnosis to repair (including the trip to go and pick up the part) - took less than 90 minutes. Part (with labor?) was an additional charge - not sure if it was reasonable, since I am not an HVAC specialist nor have I had much HVAC service performed in my home in the past. We thought the diagnostic charge would be credited to our labor charge once we contracted the service (such as is done at an auto garage), but that was not the case. I am not dissatisfied with the price of the service, but having access to a fee schedule prior to the service call would have alleviated our worry that we were being arbitrarily charged inconsistent fees for unexpected reasons. In the future, we would hesitate to call them for a non-repair call, since the fee-structure was a little indecipherable and unpredictable. We would have been more satisfied if their fee structure were listed on the website or presented as a hardcopy, so we could anticipate extra costs and make educated, confident decisions. Thank you so much to Burkholder's and especially our technician (who was friendly, efficient, and professional) for the heat! We are very grateful that Burkholder's was able to fit us into their obviously busy schedule.

On time, he was courteous and informative. We were very impressed with his sharing with us what he was doing each step of the cleaning and why it was necessary. He was not in a rush and answered any questions we had. He informed us that the 1 inch 3M Filtrete filters we were using were restricting the air flow of the furnace and were not recommended for the extra cost. That tip will save me $40-50 each heating season in filters alone, not to mention the potential harm to the furnace. When he was done, there was a noticeable increase of air flow using the less expensive filter. He shared with us the yearly service contract which provides for priority service and reduced pricing that goes with it. He also provided us with the carbon monoxide detector that came with the Angie's List deal, but did not install it. It is an easy install we can do ourselves when the location for this second detector is decided upon.

We had a couple relays due to the weather, not their fault mother nature got us all. In all of our conversations they were pleasant and professional. The technician,Jim, who did the work was more than capable,even finding the answer to an issue I had for several years. I would recommend them easily and do plan to utilize their services next year.

The service was okay. They identified an issue with my furnace. They were thorough, polite, and professional. They called to let me know that they were ahead of schedule and they asked if they could come early and I said yes. They were courteous in making the call on that occasion. They did come out for the inspection and then another time for the repair. They did a good job and I would use them again. He was very competent with the examination that he did and I could see that just by observing the work and what he was saying about changing out the vents that have a potential issue.
Description of Work: This was a Big Deal for a $59.00 for an air conditioner tune-up or a furnace tune-up. They did a repair to my air conditioner and I did end up purchasing a protection plan for the systems. They ended doing both services at an additional cost.

It went well. They came on time at 2 o clock. There were two men that came and did a 10 point inspection. Part of the deal was to change the filter and they did that. I passed the inspection. They didn't put the carbon monoxide up because they didn't know where the wires were so they just left it there for me. They were very pleasant and they took a lot of time to listen while my daughter explained that she thought she smelled gas.

Right up front let me say they are very professional. The quality of work was very well done and each person I spoke with was very nice. They came out to our house to give an estimate, which required cutting through the duct work in our basement to reach the loose dryer vent. The service was completed to our satisfactory and we had the furnace serviced at the same time. The gentlemen at our house was extremely professional and showed me a bad part that was a safety issue. It was replaced 2 weeks later for an additional $150. Now one negative comment we had was the length of time between the estimate and the actual service. We had to wait six weeks before the duct was reconnected because they only had one individual who could do the work. We completely understood it was a busy time of year, but we had to make sure all windows were open (per their advice) when using the dryer. They also advised us not to use the furnace until reconnected because of it's air intake location being so close to the disconnect of the dryer vent. We will use again in the future.
Description of Work: We've had two services with Burkholder's. First contact was for reconnecting our dryer line which had been loose for many years, causing a severe lint build up in our basement rafters. Second service was for furnace cleaning from Angie's list deal of the week
