Almost all of it went fine. The sales rep they sent to measure and estimate the cost was on time and pleasant. After agreeing to the contract, the workers arrived and went right to work stripping the roof. They used a plastic barrier for under the roofing shingles instead of the traditional "tar paper" (of course it was a couple of dollars more but worth the cost). They also had to replace 2 pieces of plywood. Initially they sent out the wrong tile design (which delayed the work one day, so a negative, but a positive was that the foreman recongnized it and apologized for the delay). They returned the next day and knocked out most of the work. On the third day they finished up, cleaned up the debris and nails and left. The end product looked a little wavy but I was assured the heat of the summer would flatten the shingles out the roof and it did. Waiting for summer was part of the reason for my delay in writing a review. There were three things I had a problem with ... 1) Communication - the sales rep did not convey the importance of my wanting the rubber roof to be in one sheet instead of 2 scrap peieces glued together. In Joyland's favor they did knock off about a half of the cost of the rubber roof, after much prodding from me. 2) The main office would not return any of my phone calls. I left at least a half dozen voice message (after the job was completed) and they never returned one of them. It was with my persistent calling that I finally had a human answer the phone. 3) There was no follow-up. They never called to see if I was happy with the job or if there were any additional problems. Even with those complaints, I still feel they did a good job. The workers were top notch, went above what I expected, the salesman was just doing his job and nothing beyond the sale, and the home office was rude for not returning my calls. In summary, would I use them again or recommend them to someone else, certainly. I hope this review helps anyone else considering a roof repair/replacement. Michael Stewartstown, PA

The guy was very nice and polite, he arrived on time and got straight to work, he did a pretty good job and overall i was pleased. Our house has a couple of small roofs over the garage as well as the house and one over the sun room. He missed the sun room which i didn't' notice until he had left that is the only reason i gave a B. As far as i can tell the rest was done well. Polite, punctual and friendly!

We have had epic roofing problems in the past because we hired a private roofer who ended up in jail!! We weren't going to take any chances this time! Ed, the "estimator", arrived exactly on time and did a thorough inspection. He was informative and congenial. What I liked most about him was that he was not the least bit evasive, vague, or in a hurry. We got a few other estimates from other roofers on AngiesList and went with Joyland. Since it was a small job, they said they would be able to come out in "iffy" weather that they could not do big jobs in. With this nasty snow rolling in, I was worried because of the weight of the snow on the compromised roof. I emailed Joyland on a Thursday and was told that, under the circumstances, they would send a few guys out Saturday morning (even though they don't usually work on Saturdays!) to do the job. Sure enough, the young men showed up by 8:30 and got right to it. No goofing around, no cell phones. Up on the roof and they were done, including cleanup in 4 hours. Reeve, the man with whom I communicated, was professional, knowledgeable, congenial, and cost-conscious. The roof looks better than I thought it would! This is a well-run business with consciencious people.

My 6.5 year old metal roof leaked in at least 2 places during a torrential rain storm in latter September/early October. I'm retired, but I bought this metal roof during my working years, believing it would last a lifetime. What I didn't do was my own due diligence in choosing and investigating a roofing company before I bought the roof. MY BAD! After the leak, I tried to contact the contractor only to discover they are no longer in business, and to make matters worse - they had a F-rating from the BBB! So, this time I did research by first joining Angie's List, then researching a number of roofers in Angie's List. Two of the companies I contacted via Angie's List didn't even respond to my emails. One had the nerve to come to my home, look at my roof for 5 minutes, then abruptly tell me - "I'm too busy to get involved in this". Why did he even come to my home? And, why was he advertising a roofing special on Angie's List if he wasn't interested in re-roofing my home? Anyway, I selected four contractors to invite to my home for estimates. Joyland Roofing was one of the contractors who responded to my request, and I met with Ed Landis from Joyland in early October. Ed did a very thorough inspection of my roof; taking measurements, drawing dimensions and stuff, and took the extra time to explain everything involved in the project. Ed was also very receptive to the extra's I wanted for my roof, like a total covering of ice shield on a low-slope dormer, ice shield at a critical porch roof meeting with my main roof, short nails on my front porch roof's tongue-and-groove decking, wider drip edge, color coordination with my existing facia, and things like that. I was also very adamant at getting a "Life-time Roof" this time, and thorough research led me to demand GAF products for my roof since GAF offers a lifetime guarantee when their products are used and the roofer is a certified GAF installer. Ed was with me for probably 1.5-2 hours, was very thorough and informative, and told me he would contact me within a week or so with the estimate. In the interim, I met with the three other contractors and awaited their estimates which lasted until the end of October. After I received all four estimates, I saw Joyland was a very competitive bidder, and after some more research I selected them for my job. My project was supposed to begin the last week of November, but was postponed for a week because of a rotten weather forecast for that period. So, I was then put on their schedule for the week of December 2. On December 2, 2013 at roughly 8:30am, the Joyland crew of 6-7 young men arrived and went to work IMMEDIATELY. This was impressive in and of itself since these men were coming to my home in the Halifax area from the Lancaster area; quite a drive. No coffee breaks for these guys, no puttering around, no BS'ing - they went to work straight away! My fishpond was covered to prevent debris from getting into the water, and they put down tarps on my porch and front yard. Then they went to work on my roof, using a special motorized debris-catcher, and it was completely bare within a few hours. The guys worked diligently and thoroughly throughout the morning, and at lunch time they took a half-hour break and then began again promptly after lunch. A special fork-lift truck delivered the heavy packs of shingles up onto my roof and away they went. The crew left my home around 4:30pm for their trip back to the Lancaster area. The next day they arrived again at roughly 8:30am and again they started work right away. The majority of my roofing project was completed by 4:30pm on the second day, but enough work remained that a small crew of just two men was needed for the third and final day. This mop-up crew also arrived on time and finished the roof at around 2:30-3:00pm on Wednesday. Each day the men would clean-up around my home, and each day they used a magnet-on-wheels to clean as many nails from my property as was possible, and each day they also cleaned up the normal debris associated with this type of job; they didn't leave a mess for the next day. Looking at my new roof, with the architectural shingles visually "popping", I'm very happy with the 'look', and the quality of their work is in my "not-a-roofing-professional's-mind", an excellent job.

Not so great. I had a number of windows and doors that needed to be caulked and the caulking job was kind of sloppy. And he didn't have all the same colors so you have got all these windows with different color caulking. He seemed to want to rush the job too. They scheduled it quickly; I was pretty happy about that. I think they are pretty professional.

Our roof was large and required approximately 50 square of shingles. Got prices from three other local roofing contractors and all were within $1000 of each other. Decided on Joyland even though they were not the cheapest. Sales rep, Ed Landis, was the difference and why we went with Joyland. Ed was knowledgeable, personable, answered all our questions and didn't try to pressure us into going with his company. He recommended products that met our needs and explained all of their options. Workers were polite and professional. Joyland respected our property and did an excellent job working around various obstacles on our property. Took workers three days to complete project and clean up was exceptional.

In the last year or so I noticed a leak in the ceiling of my sunroom during heavy rain downfall. It was happening around one of the skylights in the roof. The leak was not quite at 'emergency' level but I wanted to fix it before it was developing into one. Based on the reviews I saw in Angie's List, I called Joyland Roofing to set up an appointment for evaluation. Due to the busy season, their response time took a few days, but once I got connected to the roofing specialist everything went very smoothly. He showed up on time, climbed up the roof right away and provided a competent assessment of the probable cause of the leak. At his recommendation, I agreed to have the leak fixed right away, which he did in an efficient and professional manner. The price he quoted me was very reasonable. I did not observe any more water leaks during the rainy days that follow the repair, so I conclude the workmanship was of proper quality. During his visit, Joyland Roofing representative was very courteous and polite, and I could see the extra efforts he was making to provide superior customer service. I was pleased with my experience with this company, and I will recommend them with no reservation to other people.

We were in need of having our 3 roofs repaired, 2 on the house and one on the front porch. I found joyland roofing on this website, and asked my husband to call for a quote. The woman who answered the phone asked my husband where he had heard of their company. When he told her on Angie's list, her response was "Yeah, right. Someone will contact you later." She took his name and number, but no one ever contacted us. So, we had to go with another roofer.

We bought a 165 year old farmhouse that needed a new roof---badly. We wanted to put a metal roof back on but it was waaaaayy too expensive, though Joyland came closest to being affordable. Anyway, they had the best price for a shingle roof and I really liked Ed, the man who came out to give the estimate. He actually got out his ladder to get up to the roof to see what needed to be done--no other roof company did that--not even the one that quoted us $20k for a metal roof over a 1300 s.f. home. Anyway, the young men who replaced our roof did an amazing job. They were super super on-time (if they say they will be there at 8, they will be there at 7:30!) and professional. They cleaned everything up, explained things to me when there was an unexpected issue, never ever used a foul word, and were super cute to look at (yes, I just wrote that.) In the end my husband and I were thrilled with the job. Our house now doesn't look a day over 100! I will recommend Joyland roofing to anyone without reservation.

Joyland stood out from the other roofers even in the bid-gathering phase. A Joyland rep made a thorough presentation at our home, explaining the various materials and suggesting options. With such personal attention, my wife and I expected the quote that followed would carry a premium price tag. Instead, Joyland was our lowest bidder, by quite a lot, and everything was included. The subcontractors for Joyland were also topnotch, but came in with excellent prices. All the work was expertly done by polite workers, cleanup was thorough. The only hassles were in complying with our borough's building permit requirements for vendors, but after some time-consuming communication it was all resolved. I heartily recommend Joyland.

Everything went great, even though they were caught by a quick shower which let water into the attic that then leaked into the house, damaging some ceiling drywall and ruining some insulation. They quickly addressed the water damage by replacing the ruined insulation and repairing the drywall and waited until I was satisfied that no mold was going to grow until I made the final payment. I must commend the guys doing the job. They pulled out the wet insulation when is was well over 100 degrees in my attic. They were very professional, courteous and respectful. Something one does not find with many contractors these days.

Joyland was one of three estimates (yes, I read the Angie's List magazine). One estimator spent over an hour at our place, 10 minutes walking around and the rest of the time doing a sales pitch on how bad our roof was and how great his company was. Ed from Joyland was here about an hour, but spent ten minutes explaining the estimate ( explaining, not making a sales pitch) and the rest of the time on our roof! He had pictures showing where the damage and wear was, but said it wasn't anything urgent. He explained (again using photos from our roof plus other examples) what our options were and what the cost would be. The deposit was 25% down, which is reasonable IMHO. Work was tentatively scheduled for late September, but Joyland called Sep. 4 to ask if they could start the next day. No arm twisting, but the weather was going to be great (cool and no rain) so why not? They showed up on time the next morning. Most of the work (including the skylights) was done that day, and everything was finished the next day. We did not have to be there any time during the job, although I touched base with Colin, the job foreman, each day when they arrived as we were leaving for work. Colin only had to call me once with a question (they found an old satellite TV cable left from the previous owner and didn't know if it needed to be handled carefully or if they could trash it), otherwise they had everything in hand. Their cleanup was amazing. I think I found one small spot they missed (trashy to begin with), otherwise it would have taken a forensic team to tell we just had our roof done. Not even a trampled flower. Billing was very prompt (we like that!), with a 4% discount ($345) for payment by cash or check in 10 days. (They also take credit cards, but 4% more than makes up for any points we'd have gotten.) I checked the box that I would use this company again, but with the quality of their work I can't see that we'll ever need to (absent a tornado or baseball-sized hail). I certainly recommend them to anyone who is looking for a great roofing company. UPDATE: They billed promptly, we paid promptly. Then I get a call from Joyland's accounting, saying I paid the wrong amount -- I forgot to take the 4% discount. (Oops!) Was it okay if they mailed me a check for the $345? Um... sure. Uh-huh. That would be nice. Thank you. As I said, I recommend this company. Anybody that keeps me from doing stupid stuff is worth doing business with.
Description of Work: Joyland replaced our roof and two skylights (with built-in blinds). Flashing, underlayment, edging, 36" ice shield all included in the price. The job took two days.

I had needed a roof replacement for years but had been scared off by other estimates in the twenty thousand dollar range. I saw these guys listed on Angies List and had them come out to give me an estimate. Ed did the esimate and was exremely thorough, walking the entire roof and taking measurements and photos. The work took about three days which is what I had been told to expect. I leave for work early and get home late so I never even saw the roofers. They cleaned up after themselves so well, that I wasn't even sure thyey had showed up that first day until I climbed up my ladder and checked it out for myself. I had been concerned about what they might find once they tore the old roof off (the roof is a combination flat and peaked) as the old roof was to old to even guess its age and was not installed professionally. I knew if there was other work involved it might raise my cost substancially. I also knew I would have to trust the honesty of this company as I know absolutely nothing about roofing. Two days after the roof was completed I recieved the bill for the balance which was exactly what I had been quoted, no additional cost at all. Actually it ended up being even cheaper since they offer a 4% discount if paid in cash or check withing 10 days. So my cost was actually $290.60 cheaper than I was quoted! I recommend this company without any reservations whatsoever and will absolutely use them again should the need arise. My only regret was not completing this review earlier! Many thanks for a great job.

Immediately, upon meeting Joyland's salesman, Ed Landis, we were quite impressed with his extensive knowledge, professionalism, personality and ability to offer sound recommendations, plus help educate us on the re-roofing process during the inspection. He was very thorough, left product brochures/samples and never rushed us. Although we received lower bids, Joyland's initial customer service (patiently worked with us as we explored/revised options and answered mounds of questions), coupled by all A rated reviews on Angie's List won us over. And the GAF 50-year non pro-rated Weather Stopper Warranty we get because of Joyland's certification is a valuable asset as a homeowner. They made the whole process seamless by handling/coordinating all the additional subcontractor phased work to ensure the entire job started/ended as promised, avoiding gaps. The actual re-roofing work completed by Joe (at the helm), Dave, Nick, Andy, Curtis and Kevin was equally impressive. Not only did their teaming effort, perfected craftsmanship and impeccable work ethics leave us totally in awe, but their politeness, respect of property and gratefulness to be doing our roofing work spoke volumes about the high standards and reputation of this fine company. The crew arrived early each morning and still put in full days (in spite of the hour and half long drive each way), and they worked relentlessly in extreme heat taking very few breaks to finish the main job in five days as planned. I even changed my mind during mid install and wanted to incorporate standing seam metal as an accent....they willingly worked with me, brought samples to the house, and allowed me extra time to decide to fully ensure I was happy with everything. We also liked how Joyland takes great pride in their business by maintaining a nice, well kept fleet of vehicles and high-end equipment and tools. Their state-of-the-art piece of equipment called a "buggy" collected the bulk of the old roofing debris and gave us peace of mind knowing that our landscaping and yard were being protected with very little mess for the guys to clean-up at the end of each day, which they were adamant about doing. One of our window screens accidently got damaged and without question, immediately took it to have it repaired and promptly made a special trip back to deliver it....another testament of Joyland's up standing service. We are immensely thrilled with our entire re-roofing and home exterior upgrade experience and all the beautiful enhancements due to Joyland's oversight, high level of quality workmanship and true commitment to customer satisfaction. It's rare to find such a top notch company having all of these achieved quality traits and standing true to their advertised business philosophy!!!! They overwhelmingly exceeded all my expectations, and I consider myself a very hard person to please! No doubt, whenever we are in need of a service Joyland provides, we'll be joyfully using them again, plus recommending and promoting their roofing company at every opportunity. In addition, we'd like to give recognition to the two subs that Joyland uses and did work as part of our house project too. Lancaster Seamless Gutters did all the new gutters/spouting work and Luke Martin Siding and Exteriors did all the custom soffit, fascia and freeze board wrapping around our entire house. I posted reviews for them too; they are both A rated on Angie's List, and am pleased to recommend their talents and high quality services as well :-)
Description of Work: Joyland Roofing handled our entire roof replacement installation, plus provided two quality subcontractors to perform additional exterior upgrades as part of the project as well. They orchestrated everything for us from acquiring prices, answering questions to scheduling the work. Joyland installed approx. 30 squares of GAF Timberline HD Ultra lifetime shingles (Pewter Gray) on our house (complex roof lines), small shed, plus standing seam metal (16 1/2" medium bronze panels) above the garage area as a nice accent. They replaced/installed two new Velux skylights as well. NOTE: The cost listed with this review is only for the roofing phase performed by Joyland for price comparison.

We contracted Joyland to replace our roof. We found them Angie's List. We had three roofers bid the work but ultimately selected Joyland. Ed Landis performed the estimate (which was scheduled about a week after I contacted Joyland). While conducting the estimate, Ed noted a few shingles were missing so he glued a few shingles on to keep things dry until we replaced the roof. He did this at no cost to us and before he knew we were going to hire them. To me, that was great customer service. Ed's estimate contained information and samples of all of the products (shingles, felt paper, ice shield) that they intended to use on the project. A quality bid proposal. Upon selecting Joyland, our roof replacement was scheduled four weeks later. That was the same timeframe quoted by the other two bidders. That timeline didn't bother me since Ed glued down the missing shingles. The job took 2 days to complete. The four guys who performed the work were teriffic. They were all very polite, professional in appearance and conducted themselves professionally at all times. They had to access our attic in order to replace a vent and were very courteous, worked around our schedule and were concerned about keeping things clean. At the end of the first day, other than the shingles stacked on the roof you really wouldn't have known that we were having our roof replaced. The job site was meticulously cleaned - not just at the end of the day but during the entire project. They have a mechanical cart that goes up to the roof top to collect the old shingles so it keeps things very clean and limits the number of nails in the yard. We have nice landscape all around our house and NONE of it was damaged or disturbed by their work. They were very careful to work around the landscape. Lastly, we had our skylight replaced at the same time as our roof. We hired another contractor to perform this install (someone who we used in the past for similar work) and Joyland was very good about coordinating with this contractor. Joyland could have installed the skylight but I wanted to give the work to my other contractor (Miione Family Contractors). We had a VERY good experience working with Joyland and I would definitely recommend them. From the office staff to the estimator to the workers, they are a class act. And, the roof looks awesome!

Got three quotes from reputable roofers, and went with Joyland because they were cheaper by at least 1000.00. A nice sized friendly crew came out and removed old roof, put down new roof, then gutter guys came out the following week and put new gutters for me. The house looked great now.
Description of Work: New asphalt shingles on whole house, and new gutters and downspouts with a "gutter guard" product installed by sub-contractor (Lancaster seamless gutters).
