Joyland Roofing

Called Joyland to provide a quote in late March for a few areas where our gutters were dented and/or not working properly. The came out and recommended replacement for a select number of gutters. After receiving the quote and providing 50% down, we did have to wait a month before the job was completed. If they're that busy, they have to be good. Just a note in case you're looking for a job to be completed next week, there could be some concerns. Other than that, we're very satisfied with Joyland. The work was completed within one day and (aside from the gutters) you couldn't tell that anyone had worked on our home. All old gutters and waste was completely removed. All gutters appear to be in good working order after a recent storm. We would use again and definitely recommend.

Very professional. Good cleanup. Had to remove 2 layers of old roofs and remove vent fan. Also installed gutters and gutter guards. Not the cheapest but I wanted reliability and went with the recommends here on Angies List. I wanted an established company not a possible fly by night.

There is no shortage of roofing contractors and we had multiple estimates. We would have probably been pleased with any of them. We choose Joyland because the estimator Ed Landis took the most time and provided the best answers and options. The installation crew was amazing. They arrived on time and in large numbers with plenty of equipment. They were friendly and professional and very disciplined. They worked without interruptions except for a lunch break. Joyland was not the least expensive, but with a discount for cash and an Angie?s List coupon we were comfortable with the final price and the process and results were outstanding.

Joyland project team did a great job on this three-day project. From set-up to clean-up everything went smoothly despite the windy but fair weather. We were extremely pleased with both the products used and the installation.

Excellent work! David arrived at the appointed time, and I couldn't be more pleased with the thoroughness and competent professionalism. I also appreciated the advice regarding a mesh downspout strainer that can be easily installed to prevent leaves etc. from entering (and clogging up) the downspout and/or underground drain system.

Well done! Roofer was done in over an hour. Gutter replacement looks great and gentleman stayed extra long to get it right. Really paid attention to detail. Was impressed enough to recommend to friends (one of which is using them now for his roof). Very affordable and good customer service.

As so many roofers on this list, they explained they do not do work in the city, it struct me as some type of bias towards the inter city residents. Accepting jobs by area code.

It was fine. We had a big issue with them because they put the wrong shingles on the roof. I knew it when they were three-quarters of the way done with my roof. The price was very good. They realized the mistake that they did. They tried to correct it but I didn't want them to take off all of the shingles and put new ones down.

They came right out and fixed it. We have always had an issue with that because whoever did that roof, matched up the roofing wrong. We haven’t had any problems since they came and fixed it. They did it for free. They were very professional and they did a good job. They were very experienced. They cleaned up their mess. They were good to their word. They charged what they quoted. I was very pleased with them. Their price was about average.

After choosing Joyland based on Angie's list reviews, we had them replace a portion of our roof. The work was done well, although there were delays in scheduling and completing the work. A year later, a large leak appeared. They were quick to come out and apply a temporary patch. Replacement of the rest of the roof was recommended, and it was suggested that the leak might have been caused by disturbing the old roof when the new section was installed. When we received Joyland's estimate for the rest of the roof, we were very surprised that it was 25% higher than a very good quality competitor. Especially in light of our history with Joyland, and the fact that the leak was, in part, caused by the work they did on the other part of our roof. We used a different contractor for the rest of the work.

I first contacted the company by phone to get an estimate on repairing or replacing my roof.in late July. I spoke with Ed and he said that he would pass the message on to the correct person. No response. I completed a form on Joyland's website request an estimate in September. No response. On November 1 I emailed the sales department telling them about the prior two attempts to get an estimate and asking them to contact me. No response. Wow. I have never dealt with a company who so badly did not want my business. If they were too busy to take on additional work, it would have been courteous to tell me that.

Our roof of 29 years required replacement of the plywood due to buckling which I understand was caused by insufficient attic ventilation and lack of installation of "H clips" between the sheets of plywood during the original construction. Ed, the sales rep was very professional and knowledgeable, reviewed the materials and options while also providing valuable suggestions including how to to improve the attic ventilation. The work crew arrived early in the morning of the first day, replaced the sheathing and installed the underlayment and most other materials; they appeared very organized and efficient. The shingles were applied the second day by 2 individuals, Joe and Dave, who were finished by early afternoon; they did a very good job cleaning up around the house. I had also contracted to have the gutters replaced later that same week which was accomplished on a Friday. This contractor(maybe out of curiosity as he also does roofing) pointed out to me several roofing nails that were partially exposed suggesting that they could eventually rust and cause water leakage. I also noted an "H clip" hanging from the attic side of the completed roof several days afterward. I notified Joyland about these matters and asked to have this resolved. Upon my insistence and after 3 separate visits by Kevin, Joyland's manager, and with my assistance in identifying those shingles with exposed roofing nails(approximately 12 shingles in total), the problem was resolved by replacing the effected shingles. Unfortunately, it was too late to replace the "H clip" in the attic. I am pleased with the overall appearance with the roof and am satisfied with the GAF roofing system which provides a 50 year warranty. However, I am disappointed with the execution of the job, in particular, the application of the shingles. Had the other contractor not identified and called to my attention the exposed nails, I suspect that I would have encountered problems in the future, possibly after the expiration of the warranty on workmanship(somewhere between 5-10 years). I do recognize and give credit to the company for resolving the matter until I was fully satisfied. However, this problem could have been prevented if only the roofers had taken a little more time in applying the shingles or had at least corrected their errors rather than ignoring them, which really is just an issue of integrity. I should also add that Joyland was the highest bid out of the three contracting bids I received. Given that it was just dumb luck that the faulty workmanship was even identified, I can reach no other conclusion, unfortunately, than to say that I would not have contracted with this company; I can only wonder how many other unsuspecting homeowners have been subject, unknowingly, to the same experience.

Ours is a great/not so great story, but it does have a happy ending. We contacted Joyland based on its reviews on Angie's List. They were one of three estimates we received to repair a leaking roof on a home on which we were negotiating, and subsequently purchased. Joyland's estimator, Ed, went out of his way to quote the job within 24 hours as we were still negotiating the purchase price. Unlike the other companies from which we received estimates, Joyland's price, while not the lowest, was the most thorough and best presented of the three. After some tweaking to the scope of the project, we awarded Joyland the contract. Admittedly at the beginning of the year we had some communication difficulties, all our own fault. It never occurred to us Joyland had our phone number in Western PA. So, after some delay, Joyland started the house portion of the roofing job on January 8, 2014. There were a number of people crawling on the roof, six plus people, the first day as shingles rained down upon the yard. The shingles and nails that missed the dumpster were cleaned up promptly and efficiently, might I add. By Day 3 ( a Friday), only two people were working on the roof. Since they did not finish the roof, and a storm was forecasted to hit that weekend, they tarped the roof, gave us an emergency number just in case, and called it a day. This is where the story turns not-so-great. For whatever reason, the flashing around the chimney was not caulked. A weekend of torrential downpours ensued, and we had leaks. Bad news. Fortunately the roof leaked on areas where pre-purchase leaks existed. Dumb luck. We called the emergency number, and the response was swift. Good news. Some poor lad came out and did a quick repair in between storms. Good news. The storms passed, the two-man crew returned to finish the house portion of the job (garage and balcony still remaining) and all was good... until the next storm rolled through Lancaster County, bringing lots of rain and renewed issues with the chimney area, of which we were unaware until water ran down from the third floor and stained the 2nd floor plaster ceiling. Bad news. Again we called the emergency number, and again The Joyland folks responded immediately. Not only did another poor lad replace the flashing on the chimney, Joyland graciously offered to repair at their cost the ceiling tiles on the third floor and the stained plaster on the 2nd floor. We declined their offer because the tiles were already stained when we moved in, and we'll address the stain in the master bedroom when we paint this fall. Luckily the plaster itself wasn't damaged. Good news! And since the second issue, our relationship with them has been remarkably dull. The roof is tight as a drum, they replaced a handful of slate tiles on the garage roof, and when the weather finally warmed up, they returned without our calling to recoat the balcony floor. Fabulous news! All in all, it was a good experience. We don't ask for perfection, but we do expect our service providers to possess the integrity and strength of character to admit their errors and correct them, and Joyland did just that. If I had one criticism, it might be in the supervision, or lack thereof, of the first crew who raced out that fateful Friday afternoon, but we don't know the details of their personnel scheduling. And what's most important is they 'made it right.' As I write this, we're awaiting an estimate from them to perform more work on the garage. Happy ending!

We are very pleased with the Professionalism of the staff. They new what to do and performed in a Professional manner. At the end of each day they made sure the roof was secure for possible rain. They used proper under materials at each stag of the roofing process. They also removed the three skylights and installed new units. We live in aTownhouse Development that obviously needs to maintain proper roofing colors. The roofing materials installed matches the development requirements. In talking to the Home Owners Association they were pleased how well the color matches the other units. I would recommend this Contractor to anyone that should ask . In addition to the roofing I also had this contractor replace a 20 foot section of gutter and down spouting with a larger gutter and downs spout in the back of our unit. The installer arrived and with his helper removed the old gutter and down spout and installed the new ones in about 2 hours. It is good to see workers who know what they are doing and do an excellent job.

I worked with Kevin who came out and gave me an honest appraisal of the situation and made a recommendation as to how to best repair the leak and prevent further damage. They were very respectful of my schedule, I work night shift and sleep during the day. The crew was able to work while I slept!! We did run into a minor issue, nothing that could have been foreseen by either of us, but they immediately made me aware of the situation. I was extremely pleased with the work they did and they did a fantastic job with clean up as well!! I will definitely use them again in the future.

Purchased a promotion for roofing that included roof inspection, caulking of 15 windows, 1 door and inspection of problem areas. It took a couple of weeks to schedule the appointment due to communication issues on there end. The representative telephoned just before appointment time to inform me he would be one hour late due to prior job. This was okay since I didn't have any other commitments that day. When he arrived, he was professional and took a tour of all the interior areas with water marks then went to exterior site of leak areas to inspect for possible source and caulked 5 windows and performed a flashing repair in one area. He was courteous and answered all of my questions to my satisfaction. In all this took about 1 hour. We have had some heavy rain since the service call and there has not been any evidence of additional leaking which is great. The "C" rating was given do to length of time it took to get an appointment scheduled.

This was a deal that I purchased through Angie's List on April 30th. When purchasing the deal it did ask for some offers for scheduling dates, but I take those with a grain of salt. I received a message through the system the next day asking for contact information to schedule a time, which I was very impressed with the punctuality and replied the same day. I didn't receive any more communication until May 12. We then scheduled the work for May 15. To all reports they arrived in a timely manner and started the work that I had asked to be completed. When work was completed no paperwork of any kind was left and there was no contact (to be fair, my wife was sick that day and she may have fallen asleep if someone had tried to knock on the door). The work that I had asked to be done was very well done and I am pleased with it. I did notice that there was some mention about caulking around windows that was in the package and I didn't see any evidence of that being done, but perhaps that was not pertinent to my type of windows or something of the sort, since there was no information provided after completion I am just left guessing. I finally received a two line email on May 29 stating that the work I requested was done and a recommendation of replacing my roof and cleaning my gutters. Although an offer was made that I could call and discuss further, I was a little disappointed that more specific information was not included. Overall, I am pleased with the actual work done, as it was done with good quality and very good price. I believe there is some room for improvements in communication. Given how haphazard the communications I received were, I would think twice about using them in future, despite the good quality of the work provided.

The price I paid to have all the windows caulk was not worth it. I thought they would actual seal it. The gentleman said the caulk will keep the draft from coming in but won't seal it. The service I purchased was to seal all the windows. Not happy with with the value. The employee was very professional. Update 2/4/2015 - Had to hire someone last month to caulk the windows again.

They were very good. They were professional, proficient, courteous, and clean. I was very satisfied.

This company was great to work with, performed well and were very easy to talk with. I think the job was completed on time and to our great satisfaction. I would highly recommend these folks!

They gave us a spring discount of $350 so they can start in the spring, but when they put the roof on, it was actually snowing out. They were the best and we had a lot of companies that we did estimate with. They were on time which was important to me because we both work different shifts. They came on the day they said they would start. They cleaned up everything. They even went around with magnets for the nails. They were very professional. They were very fast but very thorough. Their responsiveness was very good, but most of it went through my husband. He would say that he got an e-mail or a call. All the actual communication was on his end. Their price came in right below several of the other ones that are on Angie’s list. Even one of the members said of the companies that if you can get it for that price, then he would do it. That was what he did.

The roof is only a few months old and looks very nice. I haven't had any issues.
