It was great. Because we used them for the remodel and because we used them to find out floors, which turned out beautifully, that horrible winter we had some ice built up in our gutters and they helped us; water started to leak through our windows. They called someone who was out to our house within a half hour. They got up on the ladder and broke the ice; there was no damage to the house because they came so fast. We see them as our contractors from now on.
Description of Work: They remodeled the bathroom. They had some very helpful suggestions, certainly about the tile and floor. Andy had this idea of how the tile should look; he spread it out so when I came home from work he wanted me to see his suggestion. I went with his suggestion and it made the bathroom floor look great.

Construction and reconstruction are long and expensive processes, stressful at times to all involved, but we are as loyal to them as they are to us.
Description of Work: Milberg and Company redid our entire house (a conversion from a duplex to a single) ten years ago --they did a wonderful job and, even more important, they have looked after all aspects of the house since then with a welcome promptness. They are nice people and totally committed to doing the very best work on every detail. Now some things need to be replaced and they are on it, always making time to help us despite their heavy schedules.

We have used them many times for both small and large repairs. Most of the work is done by in-house staff. They are professional and, once engaged, are punctual. They suggest changes that save money and time, and their work has held up well over the years. However, they are expensive.
Description of Work: Over the course of several weeks, they did a number of repairs including adjusting interior and exterior doors, replacing custom cabinet hinges, repairing and coating cedar siding, recaulking and sealing solarium roof, rebuilding faucet, rehanging towel rack, painting, and replacing ballast for light fixture.

The specialist was so incredibly knowledgeable about my HVAC problem even though I did not use him for my final problem to change out my boiler. I did use him for some smaller projects leading up to that.
Description of Work: We had huge issues with our HVAC system. The specialist had come up with this way to test our radiators in ways that other people had not.

They’re not the cheapest, but they do incredibly good work. Their price is reasonable and will give us ways to save money. The technicians always arrive on time, are honest, professional, responsive, and fix other people’s mistakes. When they do projects, they do it right the first time. We’ve never had to have anything fixed after they’ve been here. I can’t imagine them being any better than they already are.
Description of Work: They’ve done a variety of things for us over the years. The first time they’ve done work for us was about 14 years ago, and we’ve had them do a number of jobs since. They can do just about anything with restoration and construction. Our home had an extension 8 years before we bought the house, and we were starting to get water damage. They did major restoration.

We would give them high marks. Their cost estimates are valid - they stay within their quotes and the work was beautiful. The workers were pleasant and easy to be around.

CAUTION TO WOMEN LIVING ALONE!! It is with mixed emotions that I write this review. So, at the start, I want to emphasize that Andy, one of the partners, all of the workmen who came to my house, and the ladies in the office were all highly professional, highly skilled, very respectful of me and my property and a joy to work with. But in direct contrast to that was the behavior of the other partner, Joel Mullin, which eventually caused me to break all contact with Milberg and Associates. I found Milberg and Associates and gave them a call, based on their Angie's list ratings, to repair extensive damage to my home from a severe snow and ice storm. When I called the office I asked for references and was given the address of a house nearby where Milberg had just completed work. I went to see the exterior work done and just by chance the owner, a man, was doing yard work. I asked him about his experience with Milberg. He said it was good, their work was excellent, they were expensive but it was worth it because of the quality of their work. Then he smiled and said "Of course you will have to put up with Joel". I had no idea what he was talking about and didn't ask. So, I called Milberg and partner Andy came to look at my house damage. He was very professional, very informative and indicated that they could do anything that I needed to have done. I had not found anyone else who could do roofing, plus deck, plus siding, plus plaster damage inside. Originally I was interested in putting a bathroom in the room that had been damaged but I was concerned that the foundation below could not support a large heavy bathtub. Andy said he wanted his partner Joel to come look. When Joel came I found him to be pushy, abrupt, condescending, arrogant. He assured me that the foundation was adequate and that everything I wanted they could do. He is the estimator for Milberg. His office mailed a contract to me which I signed and paid a deposit on based on the my impressions from my meeting with Andy. Work began on my house and I was highly impressed with the professionalism and skill of the workmen. Joel would show up occasionally as needed to talk to the workers and occasionally when he felt we needed to discuss something regarding the project. He would show up unexpectedly but always when the workmen were there. I believe in telling an employer when his employees have provided exceptional service. When I would tell him how helpful the women in his office were or how careful and respectful of my property his workers were he would always say "They better be!" I never knew if he was truly that arrogant or just kidding around. But over the months (due to poor weather the project was delayed in getting started) I noticed that his behavior toward me was becoming much too casual and relaxed. His language became rude, crude, disrespectful and sometimes suggestive. He made highly inappropriate comments to me that made me very uncomfortable. But I chose to ignore these things as I had paid several thousands of dollars of deposit money and needed them to finish the work. I thought he was just a crude person. One night he showed up unexpectedly at my house after dark because he said he needed to talk to me about something. He was there only briefly. His office is near my home. But I thought it was very odd. He could have called and now that I look back on it I wonder if he was checking to see if I lived alone. I was extremely pleased with how the work was progressing, with the quality of the work done, and with the considerate, accommodating and professional manner of all of the workmen. My roofing work was completed. I had a beautiful new deck with skylights to the room below. With the old aluminum gone and the new paint on the front porch it looked beautiful. However, the room below the deck was totally gutted to the framing with siding missing and windows broken on the exterior. Joel came with the contract to finish the room as a bathroom. I felt it was extremely expensive ($40,000) for a 9' X 10' bathroom. I told him that I had not planned on spending that much. His original estimate he had said, before talking details, would be around $20,000. He then asked me if my house was paid for and suggested that I get a home equity loan. I felt this was none of his business and highly unprofessional. He had brought 2 copies of the contract with him and was pressuring me to sign. I told him I would have to think about it. The roofers had been there finishing up some minor details. When Joel saw that they had left and he realized that no one else was around his behavior abruptly and unexpectedly changed toward me. His behavior became so inappropriate and so aggressive that I was truly shocked. I successfully got him out of my house while continually rejecting his advances only to have him call me a short time later as if nothing had happened. The following day I took action to end my association with Milberg so that I would not ever have to have contact with Joel again. This however has left me with an open wound on the back of my house, the totally gutted room. I have had to get new estimates from other contractors for finishing the interior and exterior of the demolished room. I hope that it can be completed before winter comes. It took a long time for me to decide if and how I should report to Angie's List what had happened. But Joel's unprofessional, disrespectful, outrageous, unpredictable, shocking, inappropriate and crude behavior made me feel that I needed to warn women, especially if they live alone, to stay away from Milberg and Associates - at least not to ever find themselves alone with Joel. My concern is that this is not an isolated incident, that Joel has treated other women this way and will continue. In summary, regarding Milberg and Associates, I would have to say that, except for my dealings with Joel, my experience with the rest of Milberg was very positive. If Joel were not associated with the organization I would give them a better rating. This is an update posted 11/4/2014. I have just discovered that the skylights and rubber roof were incorrectly installed. I have had roof leaks since this work was done. I just had to pay a new roofer to remove the 2 skylights, replace the flashing and rubber roof. Nothing like having to pay twice in order to have a job done correctly.
Description of Work: Fixed damage caused by Feb, 2010 snow storm. Replaced front porch roof as well as replaced rotted boards underneath. Removed 3rd floor wooden deck and roof beneath including damaged wood structure of approx 10' X 10' roof and demolished room below. Rebuilt wooden rafters for roof, installed rubber roofing material and 2 skylights. Rebuilt 9' X 12' wooden deck above. Replaced soffit, fascia, and gutters under new rubber roof. Removed damaged aluminum coil stock on inside of front porch. Scraped, sanded and painted that area.

The work went smoothly and was completed in a timely fashion. From the start, Joel worked with us in terms of providing separate estimates for the different jobs we had to do since there were three separate components, raising our main support beam, the hardwood floors, and finally the kitchen. The crew works for Milberg, so the same guys came every day which is nice when someone is in your house for 2-3 months. They were very good about cleaning up and leaving the house in great condition every day. Even when they gutted the kitchen, they hooked up the sink for us, so we were only without a sink for a total of 3 days. The job ran from about mid January through end of March. We contacted Milberg in the fall to obtain estimates. This was probably the slowest part of the process as it took a while to get the initial contract. Once that was done, work moved along. Joel went out of his way to bring by several options for hardwood to match the color we currently had because he picked up that I wasn't totally in love with the initial one. The final one ended up being perfect. In laying the floor, Bob spent time on finishing details so that around the fireplace, front door and the archway between the living room and dining room there is some detail work that makes it look beautiful. Joel also offered advice when picking out the counter top and came up with a blend of granite as a focal point of a peninsula and formica which blended very well. I was out of town for the final finish work int the kitchen and wasn't happy with the way the window looked. Joel came over and we talked it through and he came up with a solution that looks perfect. All in all, the experience was positive and I would recommend them. A note on price. When I looked for contractors the ratings for Milberg & Associates all spoke to them being on the high end. This is true, but the work is quality work and you get what you pay for!
Description of Work: We had house's main support beam lifted, hardwood flooring installed first floor (living room, dining room and kitchen), kitchen cabinets, counters, dishwasher relocated, new electrical outlets installed, and exterior french doors rehung.

It was a bad experience. The gentleman came out and gave me a price and when the final job was done, the price was much higher than quoted. We had to negotiate with him on services and he really was not willing to negotiate too much. They responded fine and answered the phone. They also called me back since they wanted to take my money. They came and did the work as needed and we had a couple of issues. I would never use them again.

Response from Milberg & Associates LLC
The member, owner of a property management company, signed a Time & Materials Commercial Contract with us to do plumbing work on an investment property he had purchased. There had never been a solid quoted price for this job. It started as a small job but he added more work as it went on. We first met him in early August, 2010, agreed on the initial amount of work and started on August 25, 2010. Additional work was added and we reached substantial completion by mid September with the exception of the final plumbing inspection. Originally in our conversations, he was going to supply all the materials, but as time went on, he was too busy and subsequently asked us to provide the materials. In keeping with our standards, we purchased quality materials. We have built our reputation on quality workmanship and quality materials. When presented with the invoice, the member was upset. He sent us a partial payment. After some discussion, we agreed to make an adjustment, but we were not willing to take a loss on the job. The member was not satisfied with this adjustment. Once the situation was resolved, we had the final plumbing inspection completed. He seems to have wanted a quick and inexpensive job. He was informed in the beginning of our rates and that we were a mid-range priced contractor. We are sorry if he wanted something less than quality work but that is NOT our standard of doing business. Our reputation has been built on quality! Milberg & Associates, LLC

I have used this contractor before. They listened to what we wanted to acheive and worked with us to find the right design and materials. They do high quality work and they do it neatly, professionally and with the least amount of inconvenience. The front of the house looks dramatically different and better. The amount of light that comes into the front room is double, though it was done in a way that preserves our privacy. We are extremely happy with the work they have done for us. A word of warning - it is very easy to spend a lot more money than expected. You will pay for any changes or additional materials used - it can add up quickly. We were surpised to see additional charges for items such as paint brushes, glue, tape, sandpaper, respirators, etc. But as I said, we are very happy with their work and intend to use them again when our savings allow us to begin our next project.

The demeanor of the representative was pushy and condescending. He asked that I provide him with estimates from other companies and he would see "what he would come up with". That request was the most unprofessional statement I had heard and when I expressed my displeasure with the question and a provided a follow-up response, his responded by saying "you are showing your age". My follow-up statement was "really?!, this is what my father told me to ask you"...his whole attitude changed and so did mine...I was finished with the meeting. By the way, I am female! I would never recommend this company to anyone...male or female. He did provide a written estimate about 4 weeks after the meeting.

He really sounded like he was going to do the inside job but no. The roofing estimate that he gave was very expensive by over $1000 compared to the second estimate. He never gave me an estimate for the inside work, so I went with another company. He called me first and he was here on time. He seemed to know what he was talking about. He was very businesslike. We were under the impression from you that the decision whether or not to move forward with the interior work would depend on the decision of the roof work. They responded immediately to my inquiry, and came out within a day. I had a very good feeling from the initial meeting. I waited three weeks for an estimate before calling back to follow-up. I was told that an office member had an emergency, and they had gotten behind, and that an estimate would be coming shortly. I waited two more weeks and called again, and was told that the estimate would go in the mail by the end of that week. I waited two more weeks and called again, and was told that Joel, who had come to my house originally, was away from his desk and would call me right back. That was two weeks before I wrote this report, and I have never heard from anyone in their office, never received an estimate, nothing.
