They are very professional, but they are expensive. They have an office and a secretary, so they are substancial. Most of what they do is done in-house, but they do sub for some things such as painting we had done. They've done plumbing, electrical, and carpentry work. They will be here again soon to do home repairs from damages that have occured over the winter. I have a cell phone number so I think they might be available for some emergancies.
Description of Work: I've used them off an on for about a year and a 1/2. The most recent time I used them, they did some repairs to my cedar siding on the third floor of my house. They are my go-to contractor, I use them any time I need them.

We moved into a new house in November and needed a lot of work done. After interviewing different contractors we decided on Milberg. They were attentive, discussed options, very professional, and offered Masters level trade experience in all areas. They were not the cheapest by a stretch, but the peace of mind offered by hiring the best was worth the higher rates. The crew has been great- as we had to live in the house during remodel, they were polite, attentive to keeping unnecessary messes under control, and attentive to detail in their work. A number of times I asked for smaller jobs to be done and they responded quickly to the additional tasks in a very organized manner. Putting new windows in during a snowy winter can't have been easy but it looks gorgeous and we are very happy. We will be sticking with Milberg for the Kitchen remodel, dining room addition and basement refinish at this point. Well done guys!
Description of Work: Plumbing in upstairs bathroom, exploratory work in kitchen, wall removal in kitchen, washer dryer hook up in basement, new fittings for plumbing in basement, new windows- whole house, new electrical work in Master and individual outlet/wiring replacements in various rooms, Master bedroom expansion- new closet, removal of attic wall then drywall and electrical work.

The remodeling was mostly done while I was out of the house rehabilitating a badly broken ankle (surgery and cast for several months) and trying to work as much as much as possible. I could not go to the house for several months and could not go upstairs to see the work for some time after that. Thus the work was mainly overseen by my daughter who lives in New Jersey on trips to Pittsburgh. Milberg & Assoc. dealt well with this situation and kept essential communications going well among all necessary people and succeeded in keeping the work smoothly on schedule. In particular, we dithered a bit picking interior paint colors but the contractor had kept us making the many necessary decisions so that if didn?t unreasonably delay the project. In summary everything went very smoothly and pleasantly.
Description of Work: I extensive remodeled my house; upgraded and renewed electrical wiring to meet modern standards, replaced all of the plumbing, new gas furnace for hot water radiator system, converted several rooms to in-floor heating rather than radiators, and added central air and heat pump for cheaper heating during fall and spring seasons. They completely gutted and remodeled two bathrooms, replacing the plumbing and turning the master bedroom and large bath into a master suite with a walking shower, whirlpool bathtub, two sinks and a walk-in closet. In the second bathroom the plumbing was (again) completely replaced and all fixtures were moved in to new places to make space for AC vents and heating in both baths was changed from hot water radiators to in-floor radiant heat and the heating was put under four region or zone controls to establish zone heating for different parts of the house to help control heating cost. The kitchen was completely redone with new appliances, cabinets, counters and layout. The heating was changed from radiator to in-floor and the lighting was significantly improved. More electrical outlets were provided and wiring for cable TV was added. A part of the kitchen that was largely unused because difficulty in access was converted to a small powder room which greatly increases the convenience of the first floor. A poorly designed pantry was removed and the refrigerator was put in that space which improved the efficiency of the kitchen layout. A poorly done, un-insulated, enclosed back porch was redone with appreciable insulation in the walls and energy efficient windows. In-floor hot water heating was added to replace the electrical baseboard heaters previously used for heat. The floor was raised to the level of the living room floor (the adjacent room) and hardwood flooring was added to match the living room floor. This area was converted into a combination office/TV room/computer room. Hardwood floors in the kitchen, dining room, living room, and stairs were cleaned and repaired as needed, and re-stained in a lighter color. Various internal walls were re-plastered and repaired as needed to repair water damage. The completed interior was repainted and the second and third floors were re-carpeted. Exterior wooden surfaces were repainted and windows were replaced as needed. Finally, roof was replaced and the front yard was re-landscaped. The second and third floors were completely re-carpeted, more up to standard electrical outlets were added to the third floor. The garage was re-wired, the door replaced and a new opener installed, and windows were put into good condition.

I continue to use Milberg & Associates for large and small projects. As an afterthought, while having some carpet laid, I asked Milberg if they could expand the bedroom closet doorway and replace the small bi-fold doors with wider mirror doors. They were there at 7:30 the next morning so they could cut the doorway wider before the carpet guys got there. Their prompt response meant that the carpet in the room and the closet could be done in one piece and I did not have to save a piece of carpet to be laid later. They came back after the carpet crew was gone and finished the job. The mirror doors make a stunning change in the room and they braced the pole and shelving to better handle the weight my extensive wardrobe. As always, there were prompt, reliable, friendly, tidy and helpful in making suggestions.
Description of Work: Remove bi-fold closet doors, widen the closet entry, reframe the door entry and replace the doors with wider mirrored sliding doors.

Milberg and Associates told us, repeatedly, before the work started and oftentimes during the course of construction that everything would be ?Done to Code?. They emphasized that doing their work to code was their ?standard?. They also told us that they could get all the necessary permits required by law for both the Borough of Edgewood in which our home is located and Allegheny County. We were told that all the ?proper? inspections would be done and as work progressed, had been done. We were billed for and paid for the work done AND the permits they said they paid for. This did not happen. I spoke with the borough Code Inspector on April 24, 2009. I inquired as to the permits having been filed and he told me that they were NOT all filed, and based upon the work that had already been done, the Proper Borough Inspections had NOT occurred! He explained the many levels of inspections that needed to be done, this was not done. We were billed and paid for all permits and work done. We don?t know if work was done correctly as they drywalled over the electrical and plumbing before it was inspected. We have been deceived and I this qualifies as FRAUD. FOLLOW UP (June 17, 2009): Milberg said they would charge time and material and it would save us money. They started re-wiring and re-plumbing the "whole house" even though we did not agree to have this done. They kept working and saying we needed "More Work" to finish it and the costs went through the roof. They said it had to be done "Their Way" to do it right and added on more labor and jacked up the price of materials. They billed us for time everytimne they asked us questions. If we asked questions they charges us for that as well. There was nothing in writing in our agreement that said they could do this so we fired them in November 2008. We are planning to sue them for Bad Faith and fraud. They did not have all the permits that they told us they Had Gottem and billed us for. The Borough Manager and Code Enforcemant Officer told us this and gave me the paperwork as evidence.
Description of Work: They gutted the kitchen and bathroom and adjacent room. A wall was removed to make an open floor plan. Plaster was removed and new wiring and plumbing was put in. They did not have permission to do all this work. We were billed and paid for it. The borough Code Inspector told me that the permits were NOT all filed, and based upon the work that had already been done, the Proper Borough Inspections had NOT occurred!

Response from Milberg & Associates LLC
This is in response to the complaint issued against Milberg & Associates, LLC by this member. There is NO FRAUD and she knows this! This member states that the work was done without proper Building, Electrical, and Plumbing Permits and that the work was not “Done to code”. This is a false statement. We obtained all the required proper permits and had all the required inspections that were needed up to the point at which our work ceased on her property. All of these are on file and available for viewing upon request. When we realized that other contractors had started working on the property and we had not been informed of such, we called the respective authorities and requested the permits that had been issued under the name of Milberg & Associates, LLC be pulled. Unfortunately, these types of complaints were non-existent until we were requesting final payment on invoices for special order materials that had been ordered and delivered. The job costs ran over due to the MANY add-on by the homeowners. In the end they felt they should not have to pay for those add-ons! Payment of which is still to date outstanding. It is very unfortunate that this job had to end this way. We never like to see this happen and tried very hard to work with them.

We did the project on a time and materials basis, not on a quoted price. It was probably not the least expensive, but you get what you pay for and they did a great job. I have an older house, from the 1920's, and I wanted to do a remodeling job that would go well with my home. They did a very good job at doing this- matching molding and other things. The bathrooms look original and match the house's character well. They were very responsive to my goals and opinions, which was very nice. I would use them again in the future and would recommend them to others.
Description of Work: They did two bathroom remodels, a kitchen remodel, and added a powder room.

They have been great! They are very good about cleaning up and try to stay out of the way. The prices are a little high, but it is well worth it because they keep the house livable during the work. They are also very helpful with design decisions. They do not cut any corners. They also keep us well informed and has given us contact numbers in case we have questions. They always make themselves available. Everything they do is great. I would highly recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: They put in insulation in the attic, put in all new windows, put in two skylights, and expanded the dormer in the attic to have three windows instead of two. They cut out a section of the wall going into the attic and installed a railing there to make it look better. They are now working on our bathroom. It was just a little closet before, and they expanded it and are putting in a shower, sink, etc. It is a big project.

They quoted the exterior painting at $8518, the pointing at $14261, and the windows at approximately $7600. I was very happy with them. I just thought that the price they quoted me was too high. I chose not to go with them for this reason, however, I would consider using them in the future.

The price was pretty expensive. There are aspects of the work that were absolutely outstanding, but there are some little things (like placement of towel bars and toilet paper holder) that were wrong. We had to take down these things, patch the holes, and then re-do them. The tile work, plumbing, etc. was great, however. I would use them again in the future, because it is absolutely beautiful.

Dan and Joel responded immediately and put up with our changes and questions with a single complaint. Also the key question to me was the permits question and they immediately stated that they would follow all of the permit issues. They spoke with our town inspectors, got the appropriate permits, and met with the inspectors during their visits. I cannot say enough good about these guys. A professional job from start to finish. We are still finding details of the job that are surprising to us. They have a client for life! Really, this is how it is should be! I watch TV and understand and see what bad jobs are. I cannot tell you enough these guys are the real deal.

It went well - they showed up on time, everyone was very nice. Patrick was very knowledgeable and showed up what was going on every step of the way. I asked Marian prior to them coming to add on the doors to the job and they willingly stayed a few extra hours to fix them. The doors haven't been reflected in the price mentioned above yet. They were very courteous and extremely clean. No cleanup was needed after they left!
Description of Work: Milberg and Associates did general work for us as we just moved into a new house -- fixed a natural gas leak from the hot water heater, fixed double taps on the breaker box, installed a new glass block window with vent in the garage, and fixed a lot of doors so they latched.

Some issues with the architect's choice of lighting, but wonderful work otherwise and I've had much more done since on other parts of the house (like living room). The big work started in 1999, and I did it in pieces through the other years. So far no problems with maintaining the new look and keeping it up as expected.
Description of Work: Two story extension to house to make a larger kitchen and breakfast room, add a power room and closet/pantry, and exit to garage without getting wet. Second floor is a totally remodeled bath and laundry room. Both new extensions floor heating. Complicated work in a house built in 1895, thus many surprises (like missing floor joists).

The whole thing went very well, although it took longer than they originally estimated. I have no complaints at all, and have hired them to do other contracting work.
Description of Work: Remodeling of kitchen and powder room. Kitchen: Dan designed a plan that made a tiny kitchen into something terrific. He removed a separating wall between the kitchen and a small eating area, and designed a floor plan that I later showed to several architects, who were impressed. The work included removing all the old fixtures, adding new fixtures, electric rewiring, redoing the floor, re-plastering walls, installation of wood floor, and subcontracting for painting. Bathroom: removed current fixtures, repaired walls, added new fixtures and new wood floor.

I didn't feel that they listened to me at all. I had a number of steadfast rules about what I wanted, with the number one concern being cost. The kitchen is tiny, but I wanted to stay within the confines of the current floor plan and exterior brick walls. Within seconds, they were talking about cutting through the brick to add a French door and changing the back entrance to the house. I wanted the sink to stay in front of the window. They brushed it off with a ''you'll live with it on the other side.'' They paid no attention to how they could make sacrifices to stay within my budget. They insisted that they could only do the remodel for $40,000, a full third of the purchase price of the house. Then they spent the rest of the time convincing me about why they were right and I was wrong. It was very frustrating. I'm pretty sure it's MY house, not theirs.
Description of Work: Joel Mullin (Master Plumber) and his associate Dan came by to take measurements and discuss the remodeling I wanted done to the house, with a focus on remodeling an 80 sq. ft. kitchen.
