O'Brien Heating & Air Conditioning

Drained old water heater, removed, then installed new water heater and replaced old shut off valves. Explained water heater functions, new shut office valve and do's and don'ts, warranty etc.

They checked my system and told me I'd need a new boiler and hot water heater to the tune of about $7000.00 then they told me they were really booked up and I should schedule the work (two weeks out) and put a deposit on it. Since it was going to take so long I got another company to look at the system - They found that two valves were closed that should be open - they opened the valves and the system worked fine.

Prompt. Courteous. Professional. They took care to lay down tarps to not leave dirt or debris during the removal of the old equipment & install of the new. Their estimate was one of the most detailed - which I appreciated greatly - I had no doubts exactly the work which would be done when they arrived.

The total experience was fantastic. They came out and gave us a quote within 2 days. They were knowledgeable, gave us a range of options and explained everything fully. We felt no sales pressure. They were able to schedule the work quickly, showed up when they said they would and were easy to work with, respectful and service oriented. The project was well supervised. When it looked like it would take longer than expected, we asked if they could send more help. They did and finished on time. Would recommend them to anyone!

So far so good. The air conditioner is working well. The workers did a good job and were very nice. The manager was sent out to assess everything because it was such a big job, and he spent a lot of time doing this. He spent more time than other workers that have come to our home. I think they are also competitively priced. They were very neat, and they wore shoe covers and were aware of cleanliness.

They came for an estimate in a timely fashion. They completed the project in the amount of time they said it would take. They were clean and neat. The employees were dressed and behaved appropriately. I can't rate them any higher.

They were phenomenal to work with. They had everything done in a day and cleaned up after themselves. They explained how to use the new furnace and did a great job.

All representatives with whom I spoke on the phone and in person were courteous and attentive. They set up a date for the estimate as soon as I called and they were precisely on time as scheduled. They provided a couple of different plans and costs that were explained in detail. The mechanics who actually installed the products were polite and professional and considerate of the dust they were creating and took great pains to clean up after themselves. They did not leave until they were certain that I knew how to program and run the new furnace and water heater.

It went well, as expected. This is a great company. We have been very pleased with the heating system they installed last year. Everything has been running smoothly.

They arrived when they said they would. The problem turned out to be electrical. The gentleman explained to me what I needed to tell an electrician.

The cost of the evaluation and estimate was $95. I gave the Angie's List coupon of $25 off to the serviceman. However, he did not deduct the $25 from the estimate cost. The overall experience was luke warm. The serviceman offered me the option to fix the unit for $900. He was very quick to make a sale by wanting to install a brand new furnace for $4500. The serviceman was pleasant during the visit. The serviceman did offer pointers to aid in fixing the problem if we chose to do so on our own. We opted to have my husband fix it.

This was a great experience from beginning to end. Walt O'Brien did the initial inspection and estimate, and he was by far the most knowledgeable rep from any of the four companies who bid on the job. The technicians who performed the installation, Adam and Matt, came as scheduled each day, maintained a tidy work environment, and gave me a "tour" of the system when they finished up so that I would understand what was involved in running and maintenance of all the equipment. They encountered one challenge with the ductwork but worked with it until they got the job done right. Everyone I dealt with at O'Brien was courteous and professional through the entire sales, scheduling, and installation process.

Called and left message with receptionist. Never received a return call.

O'Brien proposal in hand for A/C for Woodlyn twin on 03/16 ( $8200) Decided to proceed, researched the suggested components, and waited for answers. I was switched at some point to another rep. (from James Ailes to Walt O'Brien). Walt arrived 04/03/07 to discuss my additional questions. Requiring more time to research details, he said they would have information to me via email by 04/06/07. I supplied a business card with my exact email address. When no information arrived, I called the office (04/09,04/10,04/11,04/12). Finally(!) received a call back late in the day on 04/12. Walt explained that the installation was trickier than expected and would now cost + $4000. Ironically, the original proposal expires 04/16 so in a pre-Angie's List posting bout of fairness, I asked if they would honor the original proposal and they said 'No'! I am now 3 weeks behind schedule due to O'Brien's mistakes. I suggest you do not let them waste your time either.

They installed the furnace in one day and cleaned up well afterward. We had the work done before the heating season began. A few months later, when the furnace was on, we noticed there was a problem with some radiators not getting hot. I called the company and someone came right out and fixed it (some switch in the furnace was not turned on).

O'Brien was prompt and polite giving us the estimate and scheduling the work. Service techs Walt and Shawn were on time for the work and did a great job cleaning up afterwards. They even recommended a place to buy replacement registers for some of the older ones in the house when I asked (they of course can replace them as well).

Great. What a terrific company. They came out the day I called, and got to our house a half hour before they said they would. They bled all the radiators, checked the boiler that they installed a month ago, and got everything running. It is all under warranty, so there was no charge.

Techs Brian and Adam arrived on time. They were very polite. They removed the old boiler within 45 minutes of arrival and let us know that they had to leave to get additional supplies to complete installation. They returned promptly and installed the new unit by the end of the day. They cleaned up the area in the basement completely and then demonstrated how the new unit worked and gave us safety precautions with the new unit. They had to come back the next day to install the new thermostat because it wasn't on work order, but they were prompt and did a beautiful job. The estimate was right on. It was the most reasonable of all estimates obtained. O'Brien's sent us cookies after to thank us for picking them. That's a nice touch.

I made an appointment for an estimate of installation and conversion of a new heating system from oil to gas. The appointment was made for about a week later on 9/18/06 at 1:30 pm where I would meet him at the property. I waited until 2:15 and left. I went home and checked my telephone messages. There was a call from Jim at 1:40pm who said they were not licensed to work in my city, so it wouldn't make sense to come and give an estimate. He knew the location of the property at the time he made the appointment if he was not licensed in my city he should have told me at that time.

Outstanding job from start to finish. They are punctual, organized, and clearly know what they are doing. They used subcontractors to remove a 1200 pound boiler and an old oil tank from our basement (what a job!!!), and the subcontractors were excellent as well. Installation of the new gas-fired boiler went smoothly. The technicians from O'Brien were pleasant, knowledgeable, very professional, and always ready to answer any questions or make recommendations. They checked all the radiators to ensure that the system worked properly. They also finished the job ahead of schedule. O'Brien's is terrific and can count us as one of their returning customers.

The installers were great and did a good job. We know we have a great system that is going be a lot more efficient then our old. I did feel that my calls/questions to the office could have been answered in a more timely manner.

I have been using O'Brien for about 20 years. The staff and technicians are reliable , polite, and prompt. Their work is excellent. They stand behind their repairs. In the rare case of a remaining issue with an original repair, they promptly follow up and remedy the problem.

John was the service tech who responded to my weekend call. Our furnace stopped working during a bad cold snap. He responded to my message in a timely fashion, gave me an estimated time of arrival, called when he was on his way to confirm. Gave polite, clean, courteous service when here. Also took the time to test the system after the repair many times to minimize likelihood of a repeat failure after his departure. He also took time to explain the system, and how to get the most out of it despite its age. Charge was high because I did not have a service contract and it was after-hours, but the responsiveness and professionalism made it worth it.

THEY WERE QUICK TO EMAIL ME AN ESTIMATE AFTER THE INITIAL INSPECTION. THEY ARRIVED ON TIME ON THE SCHEDULED DAYS. THE WORK WAS DONE QUICKLY AND THE INSTALLERS TOOK THE TIME TO SHOW ME HOW TO BLEED THE RADIATORS, SHOW ME WHAT THE GAUGES ON THE BURNER MEANT AND HOW TO WORK THE NEW PROGRAMMABLE THERMOSTAT. THE SUBCONTRACT THEY HIRED TO REMOVE THE OLD FURNACE AND TANK WERE DELAYED BY A COUPLE OF DAYS, BUT ONCE THEY FINISHED THEY LEFT THE AREA VERY CLEAN. THERE WAS ONE SMALL LEAK THAT DEVELOPED WHERE THE PLUMBING FROM THE NEW SYSTEM CONNECTED TO THE REST OF THE HOUSE, BUT THEY CAME BACK THE NEXT DAY AND REFITTED THE JOINT, SO ALL SEEMS TO BE WELL. I'M VERY HAPPY WITH THIS COMPANY AND WOULD HIRE THEM AGAIN.
