Absolute nightmare working with this outfit, all the way from the bottom the top up the chain only to be blocked by Ryan their young defense lineman. I can't believe how much time and money they took from us while only to be offered a long runaround. Young Ryan, the one whom shelters the fearful owners, will not allow us to speak with his supervisor at end of a long ordeal. Guilty? Cover-up? Maturity? Honesty? We paid them their diagnosis fee and it was not only incorrectly diagnosed but the $ 99 was not forwarded to the new repairS. After being told the parts needed where to come in mail in 5-7 days yet the tech said he just goes to the store get the needed parts. Honesty? He left our home in a state which was horribly damaged in many many serious areas and left the electric box open with exposed wires. I immediately let them know my unit was not functioning, damaged and dangerous, do to the damages that THEY had done. Vandalism? Did they really think we would not notice. Pride in their work? Far from it. We gave them ample time to correct the matter with no accountability taken on their behalf until weeks later, forcing our home with out air conditioning for a month. They were already paid and were paid up front to get the parts. Mistake. We personally contacted Ryan and personally called his tech, who said the only way to fix my unit was to destroy it( why did he not tell us we at fifty percent capacity with sections of duct work crushed 80% flat). Who does this? Anger issue? We were left with still no accountability to five major severe concerning damages brought to their attention. Respectful? Leaving us with no option other than have the work completed correctly and safely by our own means. They offered no apologies or anything - other than at the tale end, of a very long dragged out ordeal (because they had new work to get to according to Ryan before taking care of work already paid for), to come back and finally address the issues. Good Business? By then it was to late. I would never allow this quality type of repairmen and/or company any were near my home if I were reading this. The customer is never right with these guys and I'm sure Russ, The hide out man, invisible to all clients, will try to respond and say something like they offered to repair.....not a fire hazard (even though we have proof)...too little too late. ......Buyer beware !!! This only the half of the AC Saga.

I have used O'Brien Heating & Air Conditioning services since 2007. They installed heating, air conditioning, water heater, and subfloor heating (boiler) systems. I had thoroughly evaluated alternatives to O'Brien before I selected them, and I found that they were by far the best heating and AC contractor in our area of SE Pennsylvania. They completed excellent installations since 2007 that have stood the test of time, and they perform regular service 2 times per year on these systems. These systems perform extremely well, and O'Brien Heating & Air Conditioning is always very responsive to fix any issues. They have occasionally resolved fairly complex issues that arise and completed the diagnosis quickly and accurately -- and fixed the issue right away. Their prices are fair and the technicians and office staff are a pleasure to work with. I would highly recommend O'Brien Heating & Air Conditioning for your heating and air conditioning needs.

Here is where it goes downhill. Thinking that there was still an issue somewhere I started researching the A/C system and how it works. Well finally I decided to look at the evaporator coils and I found they were clogged up around 30-40%. These are behind the air filter. It was only a matter of removing 6 screws and pulling out the filter to see what was in there. I was really disappointed that they missed this. I now most likely have mold in my ducts and has caused all sorts of health issues with me. Now they can say what they want that I found this 5 years later but I assure you 5 years from now it won't look like the way I found it. Also the system cools better now, the drain carries more water outside pounding now compared to before. Take a look at the pictures and you decide.
Description of Work: A/C inspection. I brought O'Brien to inspect my system because it just wasn't cooling properly. Bob came to perform their tuneup inspection. I mentioned to Bob that the unit has been progressively getting worse every year at cooling the system. I will admit the unit is 30+ years old so it probably needs to be replaced. He verified that I replace my filters on a monthly basis and they looked in good condition. This was done back in 2011.

I'm sorry that Mr. [Member Name Removed] apparently had a bad experience with our company over 5 years ago. Unfortunately, since we have had no contact from the customer or been to his home since 2011, it's a bit difficult to defend ourselves. So, I have no way of knowing either what conditions were seen by our technician. At this point, the equipment is also well past a normal lifespan and well below current energy usage standards. We certainly would have been happy to review any concerns had they been brought to us at that time.

3 years ago I brought in O'Brien to clean our A/C unit. I mentioned to them at the time that the unit was always running on and it wasn’t performing like it should. The tech went through and supposedly cleaned the system. It didn’t get any better. Last year I started getting GI issues and fatigue. I was reaching Lyme as a possibility but also mold toxins which have similar health issues. I had to check these things myself. I found that the evaporator had so much dirt from years past that it was blocking about 25% of the air. I am still cleaning the unit out after 2 weeks of cleaning. This was all behind the filter. I understand that it is a lot of work to open a return duct and inspect is (~10 minutes) but just looking on the one side that would naturally be clean is unacceptable. I hope the company sees this review and improves their service. Please see pictures below. These were after the first cleaning. While the unit is still not 100% clean, it is working a lot better now compared to years in the past. I ultimately will need a new replacement due to the mold.

We were never in this customer's home in 2013 and in fact have not been there since 2011. This is apparently the same issue as addressed by this customer in his review dated 10/4/2016. I'm sorry that the customer had a bad experience, however, I don't know why they posted on the same issue twice five years later, without having had any discussion with us as to his accusations.

I had emergency service performed on my furnace on Saturday morning. I was more than happy to pay the $149 "diagnostic" fee because since the furnace worked in May and June when we purchased the house, I assumed it was a pilot light issue. The tech, Ryan, was prompt, professional, wore a uniform. He poked around a little bit, spoke to someone on the phone, commented on how "dirty" the inside was (but did NOT offer to stay and clean it), said that the furnace was old and the parts to correct the problem were no longer available. He said we needed to replace the furnace and gave me an estimate. Two days later, in steps the home warranty company, because, after all, why would I hand over $5K+ without a second opinion. After paying an additional $100 (HSA deductible), THAT tech wiped off a sensor and to my surprise, the furnace started right up. If Ryan had done the same thing, I would NOT have had to pay the extra $100. I spoke to two separate people at the company, with a request for a refund of $100 for the deductible I had to pay the home warranty people, and was told flat out that it could NOT be done, you signed the paper that's what the diagnostic fee is you're going to have to replace that furnace eventually and so on. Not one spot of concern in making a potential future customer happy. What would have cost the company ONLY $100 to make me happy, now costs them revenue from the eventual furnace replacement, water heater replacement, attic insulation job, split a/c system installation and new thermostat installation as we upgrade our home, because I would not in my right mind hire a company who cares NOTHING about customer satisfaction. O'Briens should remember they're not the only heating and a/c company in the area. If I hear of anyone else considering using this company, I will take pleasure in passing my story along.

This customer called their home warranty company first and they were not available for 48 hours. We responded promptly on a Saturday. The part that was inoperative was discontinued by the manufacturer some time ago and contains mercury. The long term solutions are a complete control retrofit or a boiler replacement which made more sense economically given the age and condition of the boiler. The cleaning performed by the home warranty company is no more than a "band aid" repair. We stand by our diagnosis and recommendation and do not feel it is our responsibility to reimburse the customer for a second opinion.

I was extremely impressed with the service this company provided from the time I called them until the job was completed. Upon calling for service they immediately came out and gave a complete inspection of the furnace and central air. I had problems with both since I purchased the house nearly a decade ago. They gave me both an option to repair or to purchase new units considering the age and continual breakdowns. The price for new units including labor was nearly $2,000.00 less than a prior quote by a different company. In addition, O'Briens offered me a superior brand with better warranties. Although I have not had the opportunity to use the furnace yet, the central air is much more effective than the old unit. It cools the entire house more quickly and reaches the thermostatic setting in all areas including the upstairs which never cooled as it does now . In addition, the servicemen who came out were very professional, knowledgeable, and friendly. There was never any pressure to purchase or scare tactics used in their service call. The job was completed timely and orderly without any disruption to my daily routine. If you're looking to get good service on your air condition/furnace, these are the people to call first.
Description of Work: Removed my entire furnace and central air unit and replaced it with a new Lennox furnace and central air unit including outdoor compressor. They removed all debris associated with the job and left the premise in tip top shape.

While we were under maintenance contract (about $500 a year) for two heaters and two AC units, they visited us in June to do the tune-up on the two AC units in our home. I am in the habit of staying with a service person to see exactly what they do. The Technician showed me and verbally reviewed the check list of things they do for AC tuneup. Cleaning the drain pipe with a small capsule of pressured air to get it unclogged and remove dirt was a part of that list. While he did that for one unit, the second unit required an extra step (he had to cut the plastic pipe and create access to it, unlike the other unit that had an access area), he said that he could not do it and that it was not a big deal, that he would take care of it next time (in 6 months or so) he is there. OK, he is the expert right? About a week later, THAT unit stopped working. In an attempt to assess the situation, we checked the unit which is located in the utility closet in the basement (we don't go to the basement often). We then noticed a pool of water all over in the utility closet floor and under both units, LOTS of water. It was clear that the unit that stopped working was leaking. I could not dry the floor with multiple towels (I have time stamped pictures). I Googled the situation and I learned that they are three possibilities; the system could be out of coolant, the pan may have to be replaced; or the drain pipe was clogged (the simplest answer). I turned off the system and made a service call. I called O'Brien and told them what was going on. They sent the same technician right away. Once he arrived, despite the fact that I very clearly reminded him that he did not clean the drain pipe, he was certain that the system was out of coolant and that the issue had nothing to do with the drain pipe. He said he could not do anything until the system had been turned off for at least 24 hours (b/c it was a coolant issue according to him). Mind you, the cost for replacing coolant is the most expensive of all the options. He did not even consider cleaning the drain pipe. So we had to wait another day, but by then things did not feel right with this guy, so I called them and requested a different technician. By then, incompetence was not the only issue, integrity was also in question. It took them a day to send someone else and thank goodness it was a competent and honest technician. I also stood there the entire time. By then it was clear to me that it was the drain pipe which was never cleaned as part of the tune up process. So I suggested looking into that. But he said it would most likely be the pan and that just to make sure, he would check the drain pipe first. Sure enough, he opened the pipe and it was FULLY clogged with dirt. He cleaned it and created an opening for easy access next time. That simple step completey took care of the problem. He was going to charge me $250 for fixing the problem, I politely refused to pay. It took me multiple calls and hours of explaining what had happened over and over for the company and the head of operation for them to decide that they were not going to charge me for their mistake. No apologies. NONE. Back to the leaking unit, a few months pass by and I notice that the room that housed our utility closet in our nice fully finished basement with nice cork flooring is totally water damaged. SO, they put me through MAJOR inconvenience, they did not do their job, they never apologized or tried to make sure I was happy and now my basement floor is damaged and I have to spend lord knows how much to fix it. As a side note, the same unit had a major problem a few weeks later and I requested to speak with the boss to make sure that I did not get the original technician. The boss, reassured me that he, the boss, would do it. I get the knock on the door and sure enough it?s the person who flooded our basement. The boss never bothered to even tell me that plans had changed. No explanation whatsoever. Anyway, I paid about $1000 for them to replace the fan, but they did not bother to honor my request and at the end sent the same person who flooded our basement despite my repeated request not to. He proceeded to mess that up again, for almost 10 days the system was so loud we could not sleep b/c it was not installed properly. I called again and they sent their "good" technician and he had to reinstall the fan to take care of the issue. Appalling customer service. Please do not use these people. They really don't care. The owner does not care, his wife is clueless. I tried explaining to her what had happened; she does not get it. You would think as a small business owner you care what happens, you care that the people who work for you are incompetent and you care that a customer is getting the short end of the stick. No such luck. Almost every company is bound to make mistakes, all humans make mistakes but these people don?t do the right thing and don?t take care of people. I frankly feel completely taken advantage of and ripped off especially b/c now we have to totally replace our basement flooring. Lord knows what is going on under it.

I'm sorry to hear that this customer was unhappy with our services. However, I don't think that personal attacks on my wife or myself as owner (who has never interacted with the customer) are appropriate. The customer's issues were immediately addressed by our Operations Manager. There are also numerous inaccuracies in the customer comments. As you will note, the services were rendered in June and July, while a report was filed in November when a renewal of a service agreement was sent. The original system was installed by another contractor in 2006. This was our first year servicing the equipment, when our technician discovered that the drain on one system had no means of access for cleaning. He offered to make that correction, quoted a price and the customer rejected the offer. When there was a subsequent apparent drain issue, we added the access at no charge. A drain back up does not typically cause air conditioning to stop working, so I'm curious as to how the unit would stop working. A unit very low on refrigerant will cause a drain overflow and stop operation, so I would agree with the technician's initial assessment. The unit with the failed blower motor was in fact an entirely different system, which was subsequently adjusted when the customer reported the issue nearly two weeks later. When a motor fails in the air conditioning mode, the unit will likely freeze and can overflow when it melts. This was a mechanical failure and had nothing to do with maintenance performed. We care very much about the satisfaction of our customers and work hard to exceed their expectations.

Mr. [member name removed] is absolutely correct that it took too long for me to respond with a project design. We've been fortunate to be very busy, but it shouldn't impact response time. Thankfully, we hope to be getting together again with this customer during a slower time of the year. We appreciate that opportunity.

Someone from O'Brien (I believe it was one of the owners) came out and looked at our heating system and left with a promise that he would find out the costs for a particular pipe size to do the job and get back to us. We never heard from him again. Soon after, our A/C service contract came due and we received an invoice for it. I called the company to explain that, although we had been happy with their A/C service for the past two or so years, we would not renew the service contract unless they could explain what had happened with the heating system job - and, ideally, come up with an estimate as promised. The receptionist said she would have the person who had come out to our house call me right away (in fact, he was right there in the office on another line). I never heard from him.

They were extremely accommodating of my needs, so that I had air conditioning every night during the installation, which was extremely important to me. The installers were very careful to assure that all debris was cleaned up each of the two days that the installation took place. I know that the price was reasonable, based on my neighbors' experience with other companies. O'Brien's also assisted me with getting all the financial rebates from the manufacturer, PECO and credits on federal income tax. They also took extra time to assure that the outside lines were covered, so that the result is aesthetically pleasing. The big bonus is that my electric bill is much lower with the new unit!
