I purchased this house in January. The roof is over 20 years old, so I knew I had a potential issue. During a previous storm (high winds, sideways rain) I had a few drips in my living room. So I called GP Martini expecting to need to patch the roof. When I arrived at home for my meeting, Ryan Wesley was already waiting. Ryan inspected the roof and found no damage to the roof, but did find some cracked mortar in my chimney. He lives nearby and was aware of the weather on the day of the storm. His assessment was the wind had pushed the rain just the right way in order to get through the crack. Since there has not been any leak since, I believe him. He did not charge me for the visit. He did not try to push me into a new roof or a repair. In fact, he told me I should expect about 3 more years from my roof. Ryan was extremely friendly and professional. I will definitely call him in the future.

I called Martini after I saw the glowing reviews. They set up an appointment for them to look at my leaky roof. They arrived on time but could not get on the roof because it was wet. I was promised they would return but they never did. After calling twice, we were finally told, two weeks later, that they were too busy and we should look for someone else.

Response from GP Martini Roofing Co
First, we regret that we weren't able to help this gentleman with timing that met his needs. As is often the case, when we receive a negative review like this, important points are omitted. This gentleman contacted us after a series of extremely heavy rains. While we are a sizable company with substantial resources, we do reach our capacity during such extreme weather periods. We make every effort to get to all, and yes occasionally we visit one and the sky opens up not allowing us to climb the roof at that moment. When this happens, we endeavor to return quickly, but again with the volume experienced during this period, were not able to get to everyone in a timely way. I, as the owner of GP Martini, advised my office staff to be up front with callers, suggesting that if we can't get to a customer fast enough for their liking, we recommend that they contact other contractors - and in some cases even providing some names. After large storms, our first goal is to get folks who have active leaks taken care of as quickly as we can. We know that damage is being done to the home contents and structure when water leaks in, and certainly don't want anyone waiting in line for help. I personally truly regret that this gentleman was not helped by us, but am consoled by the fact that we did help hundreds of area residents during this time. This gentleman should be assured that if he ever needs us again, we would gladly help. GP Martini

The reason I rated professionalism as I did is not because of the work performed or estimation process. The crew was very punctual and very polite. They were very conscientious about cleaning up after themselves and I really appreciate that. There has only been one fastener and nail found in my yard (my daughter stepped on it and it went through her flip-flop) and one piece of paper in my yard around my bushes. Initially, Gary came over and went over the estimate with me. I really appreciate him taking the time to explain everything to me. He gave me a sample of the material and a folder which detailed the Rhino Bond method. I was very impressed with what he showed me, so I chose him. He came back on another occasion with his salesman to run the financing. I just bought the house less than a year ago and I did not qualify for financing at this time. It was very embarrassing for me but it happens. Looking back, I probably should have gone with someone else at this point. But, as I said, I was impressed with Gary and his company. So, I told him that I would come up with the money through alternate means. I gave him the down payment on another occasion once I got the money. He put me on the books and did the work ahead of schedule. They did the work over 2 days. I got home from work around 5:30 the day the job was complete. I was in my garage with a couple of men from the work crew fixing the door. I'm not sure how the door would have gotten messed up, but it wouldn't close or open as a result of something they did. I really appreciate them taking the time to fix it. Gary phoned during this time at approximately at 5:44pm and left a voice mail. After the crew left I went out on the roof and was looking at my new roof. I was somewhat disappointed that no one walked me through their work afterward. Gary called me again at 7:01pm from an unrecognizable phone number from Reading. I have been in the process of getting new insurance now that I was getting a new roof. The phone went to voice mail as I didn't recognize the number and I was taking pictures of my concerns with the roof. He stated in that voice mail, "I would have never pegged you as someone to avoid paying the bill." This was less than 2 hours after the crew left. It states on the estimate that the balance is due "upon completion". I guess maybe he should stipulate within an hour of completion? I put my concerns on paper that night and did not call him back as I was very upset with this voice mail. My email: Hi Gary, Thank you so much for the voice mails. The following is a punch list for completion. There is a gap in the flashing around the back of the house. It is probably functional. However, it is a cosmetic fix. The termination bar around the chimney is crooked and the material is not tight on the right hand side. The metal cap between the siding and the shingles on the dormers needs to be bent back in place. The black EPDM near the garage has a p***** in it on the dormer toward the edge. Please remove. There are many ceiling pops in the house as a result of the work today that I would like repaired. Once this punch list is complete, I am happy to pay the balance. This is his response: GingerI'll have guys there today to look at and if necessary fix your items. The nail pops are unfortunate, but not within our control. Your drywall was likely nailed and not screwed. We didn't build your house so can not be responsible for poor workmanship in areas where we are not working. Our process is industry standard, nothing different. I'd be happy to connect you with someone who can help with that. The other items will be corrected if they are not as they should be by the end of the day.I will send someone to collect at whatever time you prefer today or this evening. I'm a nice guy, and we run an excellent business as you've seen by our work, but we are very firm when it comes to payment. Payment is due upon completion. You don't seem the type that we would have problems with but we learned a long time ago that some folks use punch lists and unrelated complaints as a way to avoid payment. When we sense this, we immediately file for a lien on the property. And we have a 100% success rate so far. It is highly unfortunate that it has become like this, but this is America. Many people think they can get something for nothing. If you get a moment, give me a call this morning so we can talk about your concerns. Thanks again for the business.G I was very frightened that he was "sending someone over to collect" and did not know what to expect after the voice mail and the email! It turned out to be a nice guy named Bob. He addressed some of my concerns. I gave him the balance due which was about 24 hours after the job was done. Is it perfect? No. The flashing is still bowed out in a few places. The puckers in the EPDM were covered over as it was explained to me that it would void the manufacturers warranty to put a seam in. I wish I could upload a picture. The termination bar was straightened but there was a hole in the material from the original placement. Bob put caulk there. At the end of the day, the voice mail was out of line. Threatening to file a lien on my property was WAY out of line. That email was sent 13 hours after the job finished. I was assured that the people who work for Gary are very satisfied and that he takes good care of them. Maybe he was just scared that I wouldn't pay him? If that's the case, then it might have been a good idea not to take the job. I have thought long and hard about even leaving a review. The owner was obsessed with receiving payment and never even bothered to view the work performed. **** My response to GP Martini's response: 1. I was only involved in the process to select the materials as there are many choices for a flat roof. I chose TPO. 2. I was NOT present during a great deal of the work. I have a day job and work 9-5. The crew would arrive before I left for work. I did come home for lunch and was here a total of 10 mins during one of the days. I came home around 5:30pm the day the job was done and the crew was finishing up and fixing my garage which was damaged during the application of my roof. As I stated before, I am very appreciative of this. 3. May not look as I imagined? You be the judge. Look at the pictures yourself. There are more that I have not posted. 4. The implication here is that there was a verbal conversation and I threatened non-payment. ALL communications were in writing via email and are posted on here. My punch list was hardly a threat of non-payment. If anything it was a promise of payment once he finished the job. 5. To suggest that I was frightened by an unknown caller id is preposterous. Martini knows very well why I was frightened. Threatening to put a lien on my house and then sending a complete stranger over to collect the money (the same day) is why I was frightened. This all less than 24 hours after what he considered to be complete on the job. GP Martini exercises mafioso style tactics of intimidation in order to collect payment and he knows it. 6. What prompted me to write this very honest and fair review was his poor behavior. He was hot for the money and I honestly felt that his business was going to go under if he didn't receive payment.

Response from GP Martini Roofing Co
As the owner of GP Martini Roofing Co, all I can say is WOW! [Member name removed] is a nice person and was very involved in the process to select materials and even was present while we did a great deal of the work. Her work is beautiful and was done precisely on time and to specification. It is not uncommon to have a customer ask to have a few things that may not look as they imagined them, changed to their liking. While all the work was done correctly, it is always our goal to please our customers, so we sent a mechanic to her the same day that she made the request. The rework of one detail was completed beautifully and we asked for payment upon completion as always. [Member name removed], like many customers who worry about being ignored, threatened to not pay, prior to even giving us a chance to make her happy. As I mentioned, we had a mechanic there the same day that she stated her concern. The phone I (Gary Martini, the owner) called her from happened to be purchased in Reading many years ago. It was my cell phone. Not sure why this might have frightened her. [Member name removed] review here on Angies List, exhibits why we might have been concerned about her not paying her invoice. As always, the work is perfect and she is clearly happy with it. I can't even imagine what might have prompted her writing this dreadful review. Please note its contrast to other reviews on this site. We wish [member name removed] the best of luck, and naturally will support our work at her home for its full warranty period.

I CONTACTED RYAN ON A FRIDAY IN MID-MARCH TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT FOR AN ESTIMATE. HE CAME TO OUR HOUSE WITHIN TWO HOURS. I DIDN'T EXPECT THAT HE WOULD COME SO QUICKLY, SO THIS EXCEEDED OUR EXPECTATIONS. HE DID HIS MEASUREMENTS AND THEN CAME IN AND SAT DOWN WITH ME AND MY WIFE TO DISCUSS DETAILS OF WHAT WE WANTED TO HAVE DONE AND ANSWER ALL OF OUR QUESTIONS. HE EMAILED AN ESTIMATE THE NEXT DAY. I WAS PLEASE WITH THE ESTIMATE CONTACTED RYAN THE FOLLOWING FRIDAY TO LET HIM KNOW THAT WE WANTED THEM TO DO THE WORK, BUT TO WAIT TILL MID-APRIL TO ALLOW THE WEATHER TO IMPROVE. THEY ARRIVED EARLY ON APRIL 11, FINISHED THE ROOF AROUND 6:00 PM. ALL THE WORKERS WERE VERY PROFESSIONAL AND RESPECTFUL. WHEN THEY WERE FINISHED ALL DEBRIS WAS PICKED UP AND ANYTHING THEY MOVED (PATIO FURNITURE, ETC.) WAS PUT BACK IN ITS PLACE. THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO INSTALL THE FLO-FREE IN THE GUTTERS BECAUSE BAD WEATHER WAS COMING IN; THEY INSTALLED IT THE FOLLOWING FRIDAY WHEN THE WEATHER WAS CLEAR. I FEEL THEIR COST ESTIMATE WAS VERY REASONABLE AND THEIR WORKMANSHIP AND PROFESSIONALISM WAS SECOND TO NONE. I WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND GP MARTINI TO MY FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS.

I called G.P. Maritini back in 2011 to come and look at my roof which another roofer installed back in Nov. 2007. The inside of the roof was covered in Mold due to a ventilation system which was poorly installed by the original roofer. Mr. Martini came out to inspect the roof. I was pursuing a law suit at this time to have the original roofer fix the roof and requested Mr. Martini write up a report which I could hand in to my lawyer. He knew the roofer who put the original roof on and called him in the hopes he would be motivated to fix the problem himself. However the original roofer did not contact me even after Mr. Martini called him. I was impressed by Mr Martini's professionalism and honesty. I was also thankful to him for wonderful report he gave to me. The report cost $200 which I thought was very reasonable. The lawsuit was finally settled a year and some months later.

I got three estimates for a roof shingle replacement. All were in the same ballpark. This contractor also suggested replacing the skylights since they were also 23 years old. I though that was a good suggestion. Skylights are notorious for leaking over time. They also put in ridge vents. I don't know how well they work since they are a summer thing. The shingles are 50 yr. GAF transferable guarantee. The cost is not the lowest but we went with GP Martini because a neighbor used them and liked their work. I ordered the roof on Sunday and they put it in on Tuesday. They had the existing roof off by 9:00 am. The had a dumpster in the driveway that morning. All work was done by 5:00pm. Since the lawn was wet, there were some muddy spots after the work was complete. I think that the lawn will recover. This was somewhat expected for this time of year. The roof looks good. The skylights look good. The owner called after the installation to make sure that all went well. I would recommend this contractor. No drama, that's good. My wife likes it. That's better.

My roofing job was done very quickly. The men were there at the exact time Gary told me they would arrive. I was shocked how well they cleaned up. No debris was left behind at all. The worker were a great team. Great job guys! You were terrific. I certainly plan on using them for other work I need done in the future, and will recommend them to others. Special thanks to Gary for all of your help. Thanks, E.M.
Description of Work: After Hurricane Sandy, I noticed my entire front half of my roof was destroyed. I called my insurance company who then told me I could call to get a roofer of my choice to do my roof repair. I first called G. P. Martini Roofing Co. since they were listed on Angie's list with a superior rating. They sent their men out immediately to cover my roof with a tarp, so that I would not have any more damage. While waiting for my estimate from them, I called two other companies for additional estimates. I've heard many horror stories regarding roof repair work, so I was still a bit leery. I had lots of questions to ask, so I called G.P. Martini Co. to ask many questions. Gary the owner took as much time as I needed to answer all of my questions and to calm any fears I had. I must admit I felt much more comfortable after talking with him and with another gentleman (Rocco). I was a little unsure who to chose to do the work though, especially since the other company's estimates were a bit lower. After much consideration I chose G.P. Martini because of the professionalism they showed me, and how quickly they always got back to me when I called , and the quality of the roofing materials they showed me, and I just felt like I was in good hands with them. Even thought they were a bit higher in price I still went with them.

This company provides a superior quality experience in both their professionalism and the job that they perform. We had the full roof replaced on our home, including several sky lights and facia, and they completed the work on schedule without any issues. While they are not the most inexpensive, their quality of workmanship and quality of materials made them a clear choice.

excellent work in the pouring rain Call Martini out to give me an estimate on removing and replacing poorly installed fiber cement siding that was installed by another contractor. They arrived within an hour, and promptly provided me a quote the same day. during the initial visit they saw the terrible condition of the newly improperly installed fiber cement board siding, ( it was only 2/3 done). Unfortunately it was raining, and they noticed massive water running down behiind the defective siding. They sent out a crew within 2 hours, and in the pouring rain they tarped the roof and exposed wall with no siding. My hats off to them they are knowledgable and highly skilled. As for roofs, I have not used them for a roof, but they have done at least a dozen roofs in my neigbhorhood, they bring in a small army and complete the entire roof in a day. No neighbor has ever complained about the roofs they received.

Rocco from GP Martini came out as soon as I called to look at the work to be done and to give me a quote. He responded to my concerns about the cost for the garage window, and we reached agreement. Because the bow window had to be custom made, he explained that the it could take several weeks for it to be delivered. On the appointed day, Todd and his helper arrived about a half hour early. After consulting with me about details of the job, they got right to work. I can't say enough about the professionalism and quality of their work. Todd is a true craftsman. He consulted with me several times during the day to make sure that he was doing exactly what I wanted. When they were finished, he showed me everything that they had done and made sure everything was cleaned up. He told me that if I discovered something that was not right about the work that they did, to contact Rocco and he promised to come back out and make it right. GP Martini is not the most inexpensive contractor you could hire, but the quality of their work in my view justifies the price.
Description of Work: In December, 2011, GP Martini replaced my roof, skylight, gutters, downspouts, soffits, fascia, and rake boards. That work was done in a professional way and to my satisfaction. In July, 2012, we had them back to replace a bow window, a garage window, the front entry door and rotted wood around the garage door and back garage door.

Due to an extended vacation period for my family, and to fit with Martini's schedule, the roof work was done in November of 2011 and the siding and gutters in March of 2012. On the day that the roof work was done, the crew arrived without the sheathing underlay. Gary Martini thought that the work would consist only of adding a new layer of shingle. After referring to my specification, Gary went to Home Depot and got the neccessary sheathing. The installation crew were skilled and quick. The job looks good and (so far) does not leak. Both Gary and his salesman were on site for the 1 day duration of the work. However the incident of the sheathing told me that I had better be available all the time that the siding/gutter work was to be done. The siding crew arrived on12 March and spent the week removing/replacing the siding and gutters. Had I not been on site the entire time, some of the work would not have been done and some would have been done improperly. Fortunately, the crew was experienced and were willing to follow instructions so that the work was completed to my satisfaction. Some of the items that needed attention were :-1. I pointed out that the as the age of the house was app. 50 years, the existing sheathing was gypboard not plywood or OSB, and that therefore the new siding must be nailed into the studs (not just randomly ). The crew then made sure by marking the gypboard before nailing.2. The garage door frames would not have been capped had I not pointed out that "all wood was to be covered" as per my specifications.3. The plastic soffit at the front of the house had to span 4 ft, and I requested that an intermediate nailing strip be installed to avoid sagging from age/heat. This was done.4. There were some minor issues with trim (cosmetic) that I pointed out and were quickly corrected.5. Two of the gutters were hung incorrectly, and had to be rehung.6. Due to reworking of the gutter geometry, there was insufficient shingle overhang and rainwater ran down between the gutter and fascia. this was corrected on a return trip by extending the shingle drip edge on the garage and also placing flashing under the roof drip edge to direct the rainwater into the gutter.7. Some touch-up paint was required on siding at the door (due to some scraping of the surface during installation).8. The hangers for the gutters were to be at 30 inch spacing, I requested 24 inch spacing for proper strength. This was done.9. There is currently a loose drip edge that needs to be re-nailed. I left an email with Gary more than a month ago, but no response. I will do this minor bit of work myself as it only entails a few minutes on a stepladder. Overall, my impression is that the crews were well trained and cooperative, and wanted to do the best job, and it does look good. I believe that a daily inspection by Gary or a QC type guy would have (hopefully) caught the same problems that I did. I am fully aware that the kind of "old world" craftmanship no longer exists. To make adequate profit, most of this type of work today is time based, and with competition on pricing, contractors are pressed to perform up to a standard and down to a price. Not many can do it, or do it consistantly. I would recommend G P Martini again, with caveats about supervision.
Description of Work: G P Martini was highly rated in Angies list and their advertising states that they are James Hardie preffered installer. I am a retired project manager/construction manager and wrote up a detailed specification for the work. For reasons that only contractors (or their lawyers) know, ALL contractors that I have asked to bid, or have used over many years, refuse to respond to such detailed specifications and instead respond with their own offering. This ALWAYS has mistakes and ommissions, that I then must negotiate to an acceptable contract. The work consisted of :1. installing a new roof over an enclosed patio, including removal of the existing roof and sheathing. 2. Removal of all existing aluminum siding and re-siding with fiber cement siding. This included using a branded house wrap. All exposed wood was to be covered ( including one garage window ) except for the window frames and door frames.3. Remove all existing gutters and downspouts and install new seamless gutters and downspouts at all roof edges except the rear of the garage. The work includes the normal site prep and cleanup needed for this type of installation.

The work was good, if perhaps a bit expensive. Our problem was on scheduling. We were told (in person, but didn't get in writing) that the job would be done by a certain date, which we needed in order to get some other work done. Rain delayed the project, which we understood. But we could not get anyone to return our calls asking when the job would be done. It finally was finished about 3 weeks late.

Overall, they did an excellent job. Waited several months to for them to come and repair the siding. Did not call ahead the day they showed up. Would have like more advanced notice.

The overall service was good and I would not hesitate recommending Martini to other members. We did have an issue that would have been a major problem, but the manner in which it was handled speaks volumes about the company and its owner. The issue we had was a major one at first, but resolved well. In short, the roof color that was installed was not the color we had requested. Roof shingles are hard to tell what color they really are from the swatches that you are offered. We took the salesperson to a house with the exact roof kind we wanted. He said he would match it, but he didn't.The owner of the company came out and worked out a resolution with us that is to our satisfaction. They seem to have gone above and beyond in resolving this potentially major issue. I was impressed.
Description of Work: We had our entire roof replaced due to some interior damage. Martini's pricing was not the cheapest, but they had the most thorough estimate and service plan.

Initially workers caused quite a mess, they nailed their saw horses into existing trees in the garden and trampled over a lot of landscaping. This was rapidly corrected when we complained; however, none of the destroyed plants were replaced. Workers never used drop cloths when painting which casued a lot of mess on the patio. Initial work was completed in a 3-week window but it then took another 4 months after paying in full to complete the punch list items. Quality of the work was very good and eventually Martini did everything they agreed to do.
Description of Work: Removed existing cedar siding and replaced it with Hardy fiber cement siding, insulated attic, and removed and replaced gutters.

Response from GP Martini Roofing Co
We are troubled that this homeowner was less that 100% satisfied with our process. The work at their home is beautiful and we believe that they agree with this by the A rating for quality. While we accept that on the first day at their home, some sloppiness in care for ladscaping did occur, no trees or shrubs were damaged or we certainly would have replaced them. A few paint drops did land on a landscape stone but were completely removed a day later. There was indeed a delay in replacing one wall that the homeowner deemed unsatisfactory. It is important to note, that this replacement was done as an accomodation as the original work was complete and correct. We wanted the homeowner to be completely satisfied, so agreed to replace this area. It simply wasn't replaced as rapidly as they would have liked. Nevertheless, it was replaced. We have learned that some homeowners are more difficult to make completely happy than others, but certainly feel obligated to make ALL of our customers feel that they received the high quality of work and service that they expect from us. We are pleased that this particular homeowner was ultimately satisfied and regret that the project did not go as they would have liked.

Things started out good. I called to have someone come out and look at what needed to be done. They sent someone very quickly. The man who came was on time and very polite. He told me that he would email me with an estimate to review. This is when things started to go down hill. I never received the email. I had to call and ask for my estimate. Calling once, no problem. I got a return call and my husband and I decided to go with this company. We were told that we would be called to get on the schedule. That call never came! I had to call FOUR times to be told FOUR times that someone would call me back to get me on the schedule. Apparently, there is only one person in the office who is able to schedule customers or to even look at the schedule to let someone know when or if they are even scheduled. Very unprofessional. This all happened back in August and beginning of September. I still have heard nothing. Needless to say I have gone with another company.
Description of Work: My husband and I were looking for someone to fix a portion of our roof and to install flashing.

Response from GP Martini Roofing Co
We spoke to the member who's name is attached to this posting. It seems that she did not post it, but rather her daughter did on her account. We then spoke to her daughter. While her claim that we were not responsive to her may be valid, our salesman claims that in fact he did follow up with voice mails and never heard back from her. As the owner of GP Martini Roofing, I feel that it is noteworthy that folks who seem to be most unhappy with us, on Angie's List, tend to be folks for whom we did no work and never billed. Those who have worked with us may have observations, but appear to be very happy with our quality and value. As always, we strive to make everyone who contacts us 100% happy and continue to work to improve our communication with all kinds of customers with all kinds of customer expectations.
