Based on the positive reviews from Angie's list and similar work being performed in my area in the past I called Pawling for an estimate on some exterior stucco repair, causing a leak into my house. On my firs call, I left a message which was promptly returned. I told him that I would be home everyday except one that week (called on a Monday), and he said he would have his guy in the area schedule a time to stop by for an estimate. Come the last day of the week, I called back, said I had not heard from anyone, and was anyone coming out for the estimate that day? His response was that he dropped the ball and never passed along my contact details, could they come next week. Annoying, but I appreciate owning up to the mistake so I told him Tuesday next week would be fine. Noon on the following Tuesday rolls around and I still haven't heard from him, so I call to see if they're still coming. No one answers, but shortly after I get a text response that Mike could come by now. Not the most professional, but fine, I just want to get the estimate so I can get the work done. Mike comes by, looks at the work that needs to be performed and then tells me that the other guy will get back to me with an estimate (wouldn't even ballpark), but that they're very busy and have no idea when they'll even be able to get me on the schedule. Also that he didn't think they were still doing work on houses in this area. SERIOUSLY this is information useful about a week and a half ago when I first called to get an estimate and described the work I needed done as well as where I lived. Another week and a half with water leaking into my drywall. So again, I cannot speak to the quality of their work, but based on their professionalism of a simple estimate, I would not trust them to do work on my house.

All individuals involved were polite, courteous and punctual. The chimney looks good and the workers did a good cleanup after they were finished. We liked Mark Pawling and his work so we hired his company to replace the roofing as well. They removed and disposed of old shingles and also removed a chimney that was not in operation. Shingles of my choice were then installed. Again the workers were polite, courteous and worked quickly to beat the rain. Cleanup was done very well also. They did both sides of the duplex.
Description of Work: Pawling Masonry tore down a chimney and relaid the brick. They also added a cap to the chimney. This was a shared chimney of a duplex. The other owner paid the same amount for the repairs.

I contacted Mark to get an estimate on replacing some stones that had fallen off the front of our porch. It has been a problem for several years. The previous owners were supposed to fix it prior to settlement, but they stuck the loose stones back up with caulk (big mess). We left it a few years because we dreaded the cost to fix it. After more stones had fallen off, it was time to get it repaired. They came out during the day and Mark emailed me an estimate. I was satisfied with the estimate and they came out on Friday, February 22 to take off the loose stones. When I got home from work, the stucco layer had gone up (previously there was not an under layer like this), and the loose stones had been removed. He was honest and said he wasn't sure if they could remove all of the caulk, but whoever came on Friday was able to do that. Mark came out on Monday to put the stones back up. There had been some spots where there were no stones previously due to settling of the house. He brought extra stones along to fill in the gaps. It looks amazing and we could not be happier with the whole process. I am definitely recommending him to any of my other neighbors who have the same problems.

I called Mark because I had previously used a masonry contractor to repair my chimney and spot-point my side wall on my house. After the derachio in June, I quickly found out that my masonry contractor didn't do such a great job. I had water coming in through the wall. I called my masonry contractor numerous times because his contract included a 3 year warranty. He answered the phone sometimes but never showed up. Then came Superstorm Sandy and I had water coming in all over the wall. I had to do something. I checked on Angies List and found Pawling Masonry. Mark was reasonable in his pricing. I had to wait for his services-but when you are good at what you do, you tend to be in demand. Anyway, when his crew arrived they were courteous, polite, and they didn't play around. They got to work and completed the work quickly. My wall is now completely pointed and it looks great. They even applied brick sealer to the wall when they were done. I would reccommend Pawling Masonry to anyone and everyone.
Description of Work: My experience with Pawling Masonry was easy, and very satisfying.

We are thrilled with Pawling's work product! The porches and patios are the most beautiful part of our newly renovated home. Mark was on the job working with his crew every day. They are a very efficient and pleasant bunch and very easy to have around the house. We didn't run in to a single problem along the way and the work was completed weeks ahead of schedule.
Description of Work: We contracted Pawling Masonry to build a large raised brick patio with steps, a medium sized raised brick porch floor, a small brick stoop with steps, and a large circular stamped and stained concrete patio. Mark worked with us in the planning stage and provided good insight into the project design. He was very willing to reuse bricks that we salvaged from the demolition of our old patio. His quote came in substantially under the price we were quoted by our home contractor.

It looks fantastic. We had zero problems with their folks, everyone was professional and great. We love the way it turned out and are using them for numerous other jobs. I am very critical of our contractors and will generally do a lot of the work myself because I am usually disappointed in the outcome (if I do it and it turns out lousy at least it was free labor!) but I can recommend them without hesitation.

I am pleased to report that I looked up Pawling Masonry, Inc., on Angie's list and was pleased with what I saw, reading the reports. I wrote a question to Mark Pawling about a problem I had with a previous (no known) contractor, who erected the wall, with many many problems. Not level, bowing, and a horrible job all toll. (Busy Bee) in York, Pa. Mark answered me immediately, by email, then called and we made arrangements for him to come and give us an estimate for tearing down the existing wall and rebuilding it. We liked his professionalism, and to the point knowledge, so we made arrangements for him to do the job. He and his team were very hard working men, and all knew exactly what they were doing with Mark's supervision. They tore down existing wall, installed a new drain line, installed landscape fabric behind the wall, then reinstalled the retaining wall and added 7 inches and new caps. We are wonderfully pleased and would recommend him highly.

We got three quotes, and Mark had by far the lowest estimate. The final price was exactly what he originally quoted us. He arrived on time, got up scaffolding in a very narrow space quickly and efficiently, and with two helpers finished the whole project in one day. I could hear from inside that he was carefully observing the work of his employees and correcting them when need be. When they were done, they cleaned everything meticulously. The finished job exceeded my expectations, and from start to finish Mark and his crew were polite and thoughtful. I would recommend this company to anyone.
Description of Work: Mark repointed the brick on our three-story house, repaired the damaged masonry on the foundation, filled in a hole on our porch with concrete, and applied sealer to the masonry. He also caulked around our windows, which was a nice bonus (he did that voluntarily and did not charge for it).

Mark had given us an estimate in November of 2011 and we agreed that the work would not be done until Spring. Contacted Mark again in March of 2012 and requested to have the work done as soon as he could since the weather had been cooperating. He was very willing to work with us for our needs and desires. The work was done to our satisfaction and have had neighbors compliment us on our choices and how it looks. Thank you for your hlep and good work!!

I called him and he said he would come by and take a look on his way home. It was about 6 pm and it was pouring rain. He was up on the roof for about an hour trying to figure out where the leak was coming from. He said he thought he had it and he would come back and do the work. He came back and did some work. It rained again and I had water coming in so I called him and he came within a couple of days. He treated the chimney with a water repellant because he thought the water might be coming through the brick. He said to give it some time to dry and then run a hose on it. I did and that wasn't the problem so I called him again. He came back out a couple of days later and removed the siding and put a rubber membrane to close the gap because there was a half inch gap between the siding and the wood for the chimney. We ran a hose on it and there was no water. I would absolutely use him again.

The service was generally good. I wasn't quite ready to tackle the project when he gave me the estimate. when I call them back he was a little hard to get in touch with. Overall, the project went very well. Mark is a well mannered gentlemen, and I found him very easy to work with. He responded to my inquiry within two days, and stopped out to the house to review the project shortly thereafter (I believe the following day). He was willing to work the project however I wanted, but also offered logical alternatives and suggestions as to what techniques would produce a more durable end product, what options would be most economical, and what might present the best appearance. My original plan was to have the original steps repaired/re-faced. But once we determined that there was no existing foundation under the steps, Mark explained that repairing the steps would only be a temporary fix. Once we decided to replace the steps, Mark worked with my wife and I to change from a squared-off set of steps to a curving radius set. This simple change now provides a more elegant look to the front approach to the house, and the cost difference was quite minor. From the start of the project, it was clear that Mark is a busy man. Once we came to agreement on the quote, Mark was very open and up-front with his 4-week backlog of work, but was ready to start as promised 4 weeks later. In addition, I had to ask Mark and his crew to pull off the job for a few days in order to address some water piping needs under the porch while exposed. Mark was very flexible and understanding, and returned the following week to finish up.
Description of Work: The front steps leading up to my front porch, which is 58" above ground level, were all in concrete. They were in bad shape and had no foundation. Mark and his crew demo'd the old steps and the top slab of the porch. They hauled the waste material to the dump. He pulled down the brick facing from around the porch, and relaid them in fresh mortar. They dug down 3 ft below grade, and installed a footer for the steps. He then built a fairly extensive curving form for the 9-step high stairway, and poured the steps and top slab in one pour. When the forms were removed, he added a clean finished look to the concrete work, and backfilled around the steps.

Mark and his team did a fantastic job. They put in two very full days of work to get everything done and did a great job of keeping the area clean, despite the messy nature of the job. The walls look great and the price was reasonable for the great quality of work that was provided. All of my inquiries were answered quickly and thoroughly. We will certainly use Mark and his team for future projects.
Description of Work: Our home was built in the mid-1800s and has an old stone foundation. We were looking to clean up the interior of the basement by having someone remove what was left of the old, brittle mortar and replace it with concrete, creating a smooth surface that could be painted. Mark and his team did a very thorough removal of all of the old mortar, installed a metal mesh, and covered the walls with several layers of cement.
