Work had to be cancelled due to a wet weather spring..
Description of Work: Contacted 3 companies about installing a vinyl privacy fence. Decided to go with Penn Fencing. The salesman ( Joe) was what I wish ALL businesses would epitomize. Prompt and professional. My quote was emailed to me the next day after he viewed the job. Our problem occurred when, between the time of the physical visit and the scheduling of the installation, an extremely active wet weather spring saturated about one third of the area where the fence was to be installed. A phone call to the installer made us decide that the installation would not hold. We made the decision in time and Penn refunded all of my down payment. If I ever have a need for a fence or any line of work that Penn does, I wouldn't even get any other quotes. Thanks guys.. Sam

The installation went quickly and smoothly. It was up before we knew it; and there were no signs that a contractor had been in our yard. The deck was absolutely beautiful and was built exactly as we had discussed. You get what you pay for and we are glad that we went w/ Penn Fencing for this deck. Can't wait until Summer so that we can use it full time.
Description of Work: Our agent, Joe, came out and explained everything from beginning to end. He was very friendly and helpful and took the time to review colors and the different types of deck materials. After we agreed on everything, I just had to get a building permit and Penn Fencing took care of the rest.

The fencing I purchased was advertised as "fabricated by Penn Fencing at their Butler, PA location and was called Fort Brook". My contractor installed the fencing...which is very nice...but the falling apart boxes it came in were labeled White Hall with the dates 2/21/08. When I questioned Penn Fencing about this they said it didn't matter it was the same that they made, they buy from different companies who call that style by different names, and it does look exactly the same. My concern was: 1. Misrepresented advertising and 2. Will it hold up since its been in a warehouse for 5 years apparently. It was advertised as a "special" price but made by their company...when I questioned that I was told I could have never gotten their fence for that price! All in all I love the fence, it was reasonably priced just misrepresented. It does look exactly like the advertised Fort Brook, my packing list from Penn Fencing states that it was Fort Brook but in reality I received a look alike called White Hall. I was concerned that since my contractor installed it that they wouldn't stand behind the fence, they did, on my insistence, personally write me a warranty against defects. It hasn't been up a year yet but so far I am very pleased with it. I'm sure if they had installed it I would have never known I wasn't getting the locally fabricated Fort Brook. My order was for 208 feet of fencing.

On time for the estimate. Helpful with advice and options for our particular needs. On time and efficient with the installation. They delivered what they promised with one very minor exception (placement of the dirt from the post holes was to be put in one pile but that did not happen). I highly recommend Penn Fencing.

They did a fantastic job. They arrived when they said they would arrive, and completed the job (including clean up) in approx. 4 hours. I was working from home while they were here, but stopped out occasionally to see how they were doing. They were very professional when they explained how they were anchoring the posts to the concrete pad and mounting everything.

We visited showroom and were satisfied with the service we rec'd there. We ordered a railing system which was reasonably priced and was to be in within a week. System did not arrive for two weeks. When we went to pick up system a piece was missing. However, a piece was found somewhere and one of the employees delivered it to our home the same day we picked up system. All in all would recommend them.

The salesperson who originally came to the house in April to measure the existing fence and discuss available options was very pleasant, knowledgeable, and did not apply any pressure on us to make an on-the-spot decision as other contractors did. The quote came via e-mail in a timely manner and was very competitive. We delayed our decision until June, causing us to be in 3-4 week queue for installation due to the provider's work load at that time of the year. The wait was well worth it, however. A three-person crew arrived at the house on Monday morning, the foreman walked down the existing fence, explained his plan, and asked many questions to ensure that he understood exactly what our expectations were. The overall length of fencing is approximately 230 ft. On Monday the existing wood fencing was removed. On Tuesday through Thursday, the wooden posts were removed, the new fencing was installed, and the old fence sections hauled away. The gate was completed on Friday morning after an unexpected rain shower. The foreman was very meticulous throughout the week, continually eying the fence to ensure alignment and that the top rails sloped evenly along each side according to the terrain. When he had a question or suggestion, he provided us with suggestions and options based on his experience, and made sure we were satisfied with his work. At the end of each day he walked down the work with us and discussed his plan for the next day. The foreman was very proud of his work, and the two men he had with him worked very hard in the heat to support him. The work exceeded our expectations and we are extremely satisfied with the quality of the fence. I recommend that Penn Fencing be on anyone's contractor list when getting estimates for a project that they provide services for.

It did not go well when I had them in this time. The first time they were here everything went real well. I got pricing on the new fence and I agreed to go with them and I sent in my down payment and they told me it would be three weeks before they could get here and I said fine. I waited three weeks but did not here from them and then finally it was five weeks and I still did not hear from them. So, I called the salesman I dealt with, I got to his voice mail and I left a message but he never called me back. Then I called their office and the secretary connected me to the guy who is in-charge of new installation and I left a voice message on his answering machine to get back to me and I did not hear nothing from either one in three days. So, I called back the office and I got the guy who is in-charge of the new installations and I told him about my calls and he said I got your call. I said but I did not get your call back, and he said I called you back and I left a message on your answering machine. I told him that there was no message on my answering machine and he said, well I called. He never called, he lied, and that is really unprofessional. He said that we should be getting to me next week and I said okay. I waited next week, nothing. Two more weeks come by and nothing. So, finally I got hold of the salesman and he called me back. They were supposed to be here in about three weeks and now we were at the end of 10 weeks. I told him that when are you guys coming in to put in the fence and he said well let me check with the guy I talked to on the phone. He called me back and said we can schedule you here and in two weeks we will be there. I told him forget it and I canceled it. They sent me my money back. It just made me mad that he lied to me.

We are a company founded on Christian principals and would hope we were not being untruthful to you. Is it possible we were leaving messages for you, or trying to reach you on a phone number that was inncorrect? I called Penn fencing to come out for a vinyl privacy fence. I got a secretary left a message and she said someone would call back in a day, no one called so i called two days later and was told they were busy and someone would call back in a day. Two weeks went by no call again. So i called one last time and same thing, got a secretary who said someone would call me back "today" and sorry for not calling...however days later STILL no call back. We are already purchasing a fence with a different company now. They lost out on a $10,00 privacy fence...

This review is puzzeling. Our sales person met with [member name removed] on July 2, he requested pricing on 2 different types of product, a written proposal was mailed to him on July 3 with both quotes. Numerous voice messages were left asking if he had any questions regarding the estimate. To this date we have not received a call. I think this review is very unfair, based on the efforts we made.

There was a real person that answered the phone. The man from Penn Fencing Inc came punctual, in fact a few minutes early, he was very nice, polite, and very knowledgeable. He enlightened us in all areas of anything that could have possibly happened on the neighbor's side, he showed us his product, and if we wanted to go ahead with the project to give him a call. It all went well and it was a good experience with Penn Fencing Inc. Even though we didn't use them I was very comfortable and pleased with the person.

I found them on Angie's List. They seem to have a great reputation and the salesman was excellent. He gave me all the choices and I was able to determine what I wanted from there. His price was as fair and reasonable as anybody's and maybe a little bit better. I am under contract with them and they are making my fence now. It will be installed in June. I was satisfied with their presentation and gave them the job. They were very good and got back to me right away. They sent a salesperson out and he has been here twice; once to give us an idea of what we were getting into and again to finalize the drawings in order to make sure we were getting what we thought we were. It was very good and the guy was here whenever I needed him to be here. It worked out that I did not miss any work because of it; which is quite good.

I called Penn Fencing for an estimate for new railings on my front porch. The railings that I wanted replace were rusty wrought iron railings that had seen their better day and I had sanded and painted several times since living in my home. I was tired of all the scraping, sanding and detailed painting and wanted a railing that was easier for me to upkeep so I called Penn Fencing for and estimate. They were quick to call back and schedule an appointment for an estimate. Within a day or two a sales rep named Amy came to my home and showed me the product that they sell and explained to me in detail and with product samples just what it was that I would be purchasing if I decided to go with this company. I was so pleased with her professionalism and knowledge of this product and I thought the price was fair and within limits of other estimates that I had. I decided to have her company install my railings. Within a few weeks I was scheduled a date to have the work done. The installer by the name of Scott came on the day scheduled and worked all day relentlessly removing my old rusty railings and installing the new white vinyl railings. Scott was a very hard and determined worker and worked with out incident and never asked for as much as a drink of water. Your staff of sales and installers are very professional ,friendly and courteous. I now have a beautiful white railing that not only looks good and updates my home with curb appeal, but I have eliminated needless hours of sanding and painting. I would like to thank both Amy and Scott for the time that they spent explaining and installing the product. I would recommend Penn Fencing to all my friends and neighbors.

Penn Fencing was great to work with. The job took two days to complete. After the crew left on the first day my wife noticed something she wanted changed. We called Penn Fencing that night and discussed the changes. When the crew arrived the next morning they were fully informed and ready to go. The communication with Penn Fencing was excellent. They were very responsive and wanted to make sure we were satisfied. I look forward to calling them next year to get some railing installed.

If I could add a + or a - to my review grade, I would have to give Penn Fencing a B- for a variety of reasons. The estimator who came out was very prompt and did his job quickly. The actual install date of the job was dependent upon the weather, as it was early February when I called for the estimate. When install date came, the installers were prompt and acted professionally, however, the entire job experienced some hiccups. Of course, the gas company came out to mark the gas line, and I also told the installers to stay away from the line marking and install toward the house. The lead installer told me a little later that morning that he had called the gas company and they told him to stay at least 18 inches inside the line marking. However, the fenced ended up right on top of the gas line marking. They installed the posts on the first day, and the chain link on the second, so when they came back that second day, I mentioned the placement of the posts and they told me not to worry about it, that they did not hit the gas line. We had also walked the perimeter of the yard, and I showed them where I wanted the back of the fence to go, but they placed the back posts about 1-1/2 to 2 feet farther into the yard that I would have liked. I suspect that both the placement of the posts over the gas line and the placement of the back posts were calculated so that the installers would not have to trim down the rails in order to fit around the perimeter of the yard. In other words, they wanted to get full rail lengths ? but this is just my theory. One or two days after they finished the installation, Penn Fencing called to tell me the gas company had called them to tell them they had to move the fence... it was over the gas line. So out they came to rip up the the fence and reinstall that side. A rep from the gas company also came out to ensure they were installing in the correct spot. He required the installers to move the fence in toward my house about THREE FEET ? they actually wanted it moved 4 feet, but I had a large tree in the way. Also, there was an issue with the gate. Apparently, there is only 1 gate style for split rail fences. I wasn't shown a picture of this gate and it was really very, very ugly. So I talked to one of the representatives over the phone about possible solutions. He guided me to a website where we could both look at different types of gates and I saw one that would be more acceptable than the one that was installed. Then the rep suggested that, for a bit more money (only about $250) they could make me a custom-welded gate. I told them that would be fine, as long as I could see a sketch of the gate before they went ahead with it. That was agreed to. I followed up a couple of times regarding the gate, asking about the sketch and was told that it would look like the ones we had seen on the internet and they went ahead and built it. However, when they came to install it, it did not look like the ones we had seen. Overall, the gate if fine, it's just not what I was expecting to see. Also, they installers left several pieces of chain link in the yard, which was hard to see because of the brown chain link in the winter-dead grass of the yard. And they did not fill in the holes that were left when they uprooted the fence posts to move the fence in. As that area is technically a grassy alley and I have it mowed during the summer, I'm going to have to fill those holes myself so my lawn guy doesn't ruin his mower by hitting a hole, or someone walking through doesn't fall in and break an ankle. Finally, I reminded the company that they did not install the linear feet of fencing that they quoted, because of the issue with the gas line. They ended up giving me the gate for free PLUS refunding some of my money for the fewer feet of fencing, but I don't know if they would have done that if I hadn't asked about it. Even with all these issues, the people at Penn Fencing were extremely nice to work with and responsive to all my calls and requests. Thankfully, I work from home, so the back and forth with the install didn't inconvenience me as much as it may have someone else.

Dear [member name removed], First of all I would like to thank you for the opportunity to work with you and for your comments. We work very hard and these comments are used with our crews to improve customer satisfaction. I also would like to apologize for the debris left in your yard and the holes left unfilled. We will gladly take care of that if it still needs to be done. The gas company may have instructed us to not refill them so they could further inspect, but this normally would be taken care of. You are exactly correct in your assessment that the debris probably just went unnoticed due to it blending in with the ground conditions. We normally don’t make a call to the gas company but in your case we were trying to go the extra mile and claim as much back yard in the fence that we could, that’s what prompted our call. The locating service marked the line so crookedly that it was difficult to maintain a straight line consistent with your property line so we could run your new fence straight with the property. It seems that overall you are satisfied and we will use this information to try and make more improvements with our crews and customer service. Thank you again and please let me know if I can get someone out there to fill the old post holes. Sincerely, Chad Galbreath, President, Penn Fencing Inc.

I had Penn Fencing install a vinyl-coated chain link fence in my backyard to keep my dogs contained. My yard is a good 1/2 acre plus, and the quality is great. The guys who did the installation were great, and the price was very competitive. The only issue i had was the communication--we had to wait until the snow melted to get it installed, and I was anxious to get the fence installed. They could have been a little better with communicating the estimated time. but I would use them again in a heartbeat. You won't find a better quality fence for the price. The price includes tension wire that lines thebottom of the fence---other companies I looked at didn't include this.

We have the same railing system at our home that is on the market and knew it will be great for our new home. I called to schedule for an onsite work up and quote on the day of our closing since this was a safety issue. Justin came out and was very informative and discussed different finish options. He handed me a quote within half an hour. I was happy to show him the 5% discount from Angie's List. The railing system was installed about 2 weeks after we ordered - signed contract and put payment down. It was pouring down rain the day of the install, so it was backed up by 2 days. There was some lack of communication; but it worked out. Installers were very friendly and respectful of our property. Another cold and rainy day on the first install day. They finished in 2 days and we are very happy with the look and the experience with Penn Fencing. I noticed that 2 sections do not feel as "tight" as the others so I put a call into Justin and I feel confident that someone will be out to look at and fix.
