Harris is quite possibly the most unethical company that I have ever come across. I'm pretty sure their techs know their stuff but these guys are only interested in taking as much of your money as possible. Read on! We bought our home in 2009. It happened to have a Weil-Mclain Gold oil boiler and there was nothing that we could do about that at the time, as there was a moratorium on cutting the street to provide a gas line. So we had to stick with oil for 4 years. Harris Comfort had installed the oil boiler in our house about 6 years before we bought it - in 2003. So when we moved in, I had them service it. That was about $195. But I checked around for oil prices and Harris was about .25 - .40 more per gallon than most providers. So I bought my oil COD. This year we were finally able to get gas run so I contacted Harris to come out, assess things and make recommendations for: - converting current boiler to gas - new gas boiler - new high efficiency gas boiler They only have one guy who comes out to assess, spec and bid, and he would be available in only a few days. So that was ok. In the meantime I started reading up on boilers to understand my options better, and was ASTONISHED to find out that what I had was incredibly over-sized, and was costing me at least $1000 a year in vastly higher oil bills. When their guy came out, he said if we wanted an indirect water heater that we'd need to add 40K to the boiler sizing. This is 100% WRONG. It would merely be a priority zone off the boiler. It doesn't change the sizing at all! Don't believe me - read up on it and verify. It'll take you 5 min. And instead of directing me to options for a direct/power vent gas boiler - that would vent directly out the basement rear wall - he tried to sell me that I had to get my chimney lined and that would probably cost like $1500-2000 (though they didn't "do the work"). Get this ... the oil boiler they had sold to the former owner (a very sickly elderly woman) was sized at 240K BTU. PLEASE Let that sink in. That is 240,000. Bigger is better, right? Wrong. Our home is 2950 square feet. So what would an "ok" sizing be? The traditional, very conservative (and wrong) way to size oil boilers for water heating (not steam) is Sq Ft * .35. If they had done that, the boiler would have been about 105,000. So - it might be "somewhat understandable" if it was sized around 100-120K. A detailed heat loss analysis revealed that a PROPERLY sized oil boiler when they sold and installed our boiler - 2003 - would be about 75,000 BTU - to deliver 60,000 at 80% efficiency. That is plenty for even an old leaky Victorian with little or no insulation (exactly what our house was when we bought it). But that wouldn't have used so darn much oil, right? And they sell that too, as well as service contracts. Take a good long look at what Harris Comfort installed in your basement, especially if it was in the last 10 years. We all have a right to earn a living. And companies need to turn a profit. Ok - fine. But the facts here are the facts. They took advantage of an old sick woman who died a few years afterwards and then we bought the place and took a beating in oil bills for 4 years. Thank goodness that we didn't contract with them for that! If you are considering a new heating system - first do a detailed heat loss analysis. It's not that hard and won't take all that long. Your #s SHOULD be probably 35000 - 65000 unless your house is HUGE. And size a boiler accordingly. Or pay someone $100 to do it for you. Don't let ANYONE sell you a new boiler unless they can work up those #s and you verify that they are good. If you can get natural gas - do it! If you must stick with oil - use a reputable company that will be fair. We have had good experiences with JC on Rt. 13 and C&L Fuel Oil. Good luck to you all! J.

Harris Comfort is a four generation family owned and operated business. The complaint and remarks made by Mr. (member name removed) are wrong on all accounts except the remark regarding our fuel prices. We are a full service company with 24/7 service, not a COD on person operation. The original boiler was installed based on the amount of Btu's needed for the existing radiation and in accordance with nationally accepted Manual J for calculating heating and cooling needs. It should be pointed out that his property is an older brick building with four levels situated on the banks of a river, no insulation and poor windows. Our lead salesperson who also has many years of technical experience visited the property a few weeks ago at the request of Mr. (member name removed). While reviewing the owners wish to convert to gas our representative attempted to explain what had to be done. Each time a point was made the point was met with confrontation and that the owner could get a friend to do another way and cheaper. After many attempts explaining the situation our representative told Mr. (member name removed) that it appeared we could not satisfy his needs and our representative left with out completing the evaluation. Also we did not say that additional Btu's were needed for domestic hot water because we always install a domestic hot water priority control.

Paid $29.95 for diagnosis. When repairman came out,he then had to do a pressure test on the system that cost $80. He said the system had a freon leak that wasn't repairable. A/C was over 20 years. Decided to have system replaced but not by this service provider. Service provider was fine but I continually am being billed the $29.95 for Angie's list coupon. I tried on several occasions to tell the provider that I purchased directly from Angie's List on my credit card. I guess their system isn't set up for Angie's List transactions so that aspect has been annoying.

The installation took 1 1/2 days. The crew stayed on the job the whole time. They were very professional and knowledgeable. They did show up a little late the first morning but explained they had a company meeting that held them up. They explained everything I needed to know. Clean up was perfect. The new system is working great. The value of the system was better than other quotes for a similar price.

They have been really good. They followed up. They had two parts that hadn’t come in out of the equipment so they didn’t have us pay them until it was all installed. Although I did partial payments as I didn’t want do giant payments at once. They had come back and for about a month and month and a half they kept us up to speed as to what the status was to receiving that in. They did really good. I called them once to check something out and they came and didn’t charge us for anything. They are pretty responsive. I would recommend them. The price was comparable with so many other bids we had got and we had got 5 different bids.

I ordered the generator the first week of December, 2012. It was made operational yesterday, 6/11/2013. That seems to me to be a long time to wait. Fortunately we did not have any outages during that period. I cannot comment on price because I did not comparison shop.

I was not very happy. They were not very responsive, and I thought they overcharged me on the price of the oil, and it was higher than the average price in the area. They were not very customer focused. They guy who worked on the furnace did a good job and I didn’t have any problems with the maintenance; it was really just the oil prices and the dealing with the pricing.

Please keep in mind that there are many programs that we offer to help and deliver the best value to all. Some programs have a fee since we must go out and buy the insurance if you want a cap type program. We feel the best program is our budget fix program, no fees and you pay over 12 months. Remember there are many companies out there that will bring in a new customer for up to .60 less then what long time customers pay. We offer our program to all, so yes when you shop we may seem higher, but after the first year or two your paying much more.

Christine, the girl that answered the phone when I called, was absolutely wonderful. Gary, the serviceman, was also fantastic, professional, and neat. He didn't show me the part that needed replacing though; I also didn't like that I was quoted a price, and after the work was finished, Gary charged me more. When I did call the office, the person on the other phone had a bad attitude. He was very curt on the phone. However, the owner called and made sure I was happy. I will use them again, because they do good work. I'd recommend them to anyone!

I called on a Saturday night at 7pm after our heating unit began making a loud humming noise. The emergency line was promptly answered and after I explained the problem I was told they would page someone for me. We received a call back within 10 minutes from Bruce Harris. Since it was a warm weekend and due to our work schedules we decided to wait until the beginning of the week. I received a call from Tom Christie, their salesman, Monday morning. We set up an appointment for Monday evening. The technicians were here to install our new unit the next morning promptly at 9am. Everything went very smoothly and was very professional. I would absolutely recommend Harris Comfort to anyone in need quick professional service!

My air conditioning unit was shaking badly and they came to service it. They told me it would cost $80 for the service call just to come and then they would give prices for the services when they get here and look at the unit. The work they did was good, but they are overcharging way too much. He didn't give me any estimates or possible pricing beforehand. He just started working on the unit and then stuck me with a $421 bill. When looking at the invoice, I was charged $184 for a blow off and assembly, $73 to clean the unit with my hose and my water, $80 for travel/service call, and $85 for a fix/stop - I don't even know what he means by fix/stop. Before paying the invoice I called the manager of the business and they did remove the $85 fix/stop charge, but that still left me with a $336 bill that I did pay. Again, the quality of the work they did was fine. My concern is how they overcharged me for services without giving me any ideas of what they were going to do and what it would approximately cost until after.

I had a heating company that I got through Angie's List come and check my heater, but was not satisfied with the visit. They did not appear to want to try to fix the problem. I talked to a neighbor who was a retired heating contractor and he suggested Harris Comfort. I was please to see that this company was also on Angie's List, so I called them. The workman came out and spent a whole day working to fix the heater. When he realized that it would cost me too much to get the parts needed to fix it, I decided to get a new heater. He arranged for me to have a sale rep. come out, which the man did within a day or two. His price for the job was very good and I subsequently had an efficient new heater installed. The company was accessible, and very willing to work with me both in the area of installation and also with helping me to get the PECO rebate. I will gladly recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: The heater was checked and was not working. The workman tried all day to fix the problem, even going to the warehouse to get a part and installing it, but that did not solve the problem. He removed the part and did not charge me for it. I talked to a salesman who gave me a good price on a new heater and the company installed it within a week.

After 17 years of waiting for PECO to fix the constant power outages we bit the bullet and got one. The work was great and install went very smooth. The major problem was Lower Makefield changed the codes and it was very hard to come up with a solution to their rules. After 6 weeks of denying our permit the job was started. The cost was now about $2500 more than estimated, but because we already had a contract and deposit Harris ate the cost and did the job any way. The added cost was, the township said they had to replace the whole breaker box with a generator ready box and rewire the whole service. Every one from the estimator to the service guys was very nice and professional. We would not hesitate to use them in the future.

I had gotten two estimates prior to my appointment with Harris Comfort for the Air Conditioning replacement. One salesman service tech came an hour late for the appointment and sat in his truck for an hour or more "writing an estimate" , but said he could only give me a rough guess until he came back later. He didn't come back. The other salesman was very professional and submitted a competitive quote for the work. But neither of them were as thorough as Tom, Harris Comfort's salesman. Though this was during a tremendous heat wave Tom climbed the ladder into the attic and crawled around in a 120 degree or higher temperature to inspect the ductwork. Then he took the time to explain that I had loose connections and collapsed ductwork which were hindering the air distribution. The next morning by 7 a.m. I received an emailed proposal. Once I accepted the proposal it was not very long before they had the two systems installed, including replacing the flex duct with insulated ductwork. The installers were very professional; polite, efficient and careful in protecting the house that they were working in. Subsequently in October 2011 I had Harris Comfort replace the boiler. A few minor problems during the installation but Harris Comfort was very responsive to them and overall they did a great job.

Harris showed a consistantly lower fuel oil price per gallon than the provider I had been using, so I switched. I needed a new oil tank, so they referred me to a company that just did tank replacement. The provider I had been using did their own replacement work and gave me an estimate much higher ($1,000.00) than the company (Total Tank Care) Harris referred me to. Harris is honoring the remainder of the service contract period that I had with the old provider (I won't be charged until that contract date has expired), cleaned and serviced my heater, referred me to a tank replacement company that did an excellant job, and filled my new tank with fuel oil within an hour after I called to tell them the new tank was in. I couldn't ask for more prompt, professional service.

d have been a customer of Harris for about 19 years. Unfortunately its time to find another Oil provider. I have a 24 hour oil heat plan as well as oil supply from Harris. I would say their prices are competitive. However, their service has taken a turn for the worse over the last 7 or so years. To start, we had a new oil fired hot water heater installed by Harris. They installed the tank with dissimilar metal piping which caused eventual erosion of the sacrificial anodes in the tank within about three years. This caused iron particles to settle in the tank and for years I have had knocking sounds, brown (iron) water issues, and air in my hot water system because of the iron. I was told later by a Harris employee that it was installed wrong. In addition, many of their oil furnace servicemen are young and very inexperienced. We had a recent issue where we had the burner stop working. A young man came out and worked on the system, saying he fixed it. Next day the system failed again, and another more experienced technician came out. He mentioned that the first repair man didnt know what he was doing and proceeded to readjust the system. Overall the quality of their work has dropped significantly over the years.

Super. They work very conscientiously, and clean up as they go and when they're done.
Description of Work: Installed ductless air conditioning (which is actually a heat pump) in the 4 main rooms of our home, We did not shop around because we have used them super-satisfactorily for years for our oil heat - they installed our system (in which we specified some custom arrangements) and also contract with them for our fuel delivery and service. They have always been prompt, courteous, professional and friendly, even when we were dog-sitting 2 rottweilers in our house. They are also VERY involved in community service. For example, the owners serving with a volunteer fire company and serving on the board of the local nature center, and respond to many local causes generously. The heat pump system has been operating flawlessly, is very efficient, and is super quiet. We recommend them highly here, and have often done so in conversations with co-workeres, friends & neighbors.

Description of Work: Twenty-five years ago, Harris serviced and supplied our two oil furnaces. When we switched to natural gas 20 years ago, Harris installed two high-efficiency Lenox "pulse" furnaces. Don't remember what it cost back then, but the process went very smoothly. This year, 2011, we decided to replace those older furnaces with the latest high-efficiency heaters. We also replaced two whole-house airconditioning units. One AC unit was 40 years old. The other was about 20 years old. (We prefer to open our windows when it gets hot. But we typically run the ACs about two or three weeks a year.) We wanted better heating efficiency and more powerful, less expensive whole-house cooling. Mainly, we wanted to be able to eliminate the three second-floor window air conditioners we had to haul down from the third floor each spring and haul back up each fall. Harris is among the few remaining family-owned and -operated oil delivery and service companies in an area that used to have scores of them. Dave Harris himself came to our house to propose the two original gas heaters we installed 20 years ago. Dave is now semi-retired, but he still comes in every day. So here's what we wrote to him when the latest job was finished this summer: Dear Dave, Your company and people did such an extraordinary job installing our new heating and air conditioning systems this summer that I just had to send you this letter. We wouldn’t expect you to remember it since you have so very many customers in the area, but 20 years ago you met with us here in our 200-year old home and advised us on the high-efficiency heaters we needed to install and on the process we needed to follow to convert to natural gas from oil. In later years, you also handled the heating and cooling needs for the vacation-rental property we own next door. So when it came time to replace and upgrade the HVAC systems in this house, we simply called Harris. We did not even consider asking any other company to bid. We were not disappointed! As always, Harris exceeded our expectations. In today’s world that is no small accomplishment. Tom Christie, our Harris Equipment Sales Representative, could not have been more knowledgeable or more professional. (Or personable.) The man clearly knows what he’s talking about. And what a boon it was for him to give us the PECO rebate applications pre-filled out. A really nice touch. (We also appreciated the chocolates he sent after the job had been completed. Again, a really nice touch.) Kurt and Ed, as I’m sure you know, led the installation. And we simply cannot say enough about them. They creatively solved some challenging ducting problems and were always sensitive to the aesthetics of our antique house. Greg, Ken, and Billy were top-shelf as well. The skills all of these guys have are incredibly impressive. (I know a little bit about job skills because, as a freelance writer, I’ve written hundreds of video scripts and print publications designed to help high school students understand what various jobs involve.) But what’s most impressive, at least to the typical homeowner, is the pleasant, outgoing personality each of them has. As such, they really are the “face of Harris Comfort.” They are the reason Emily and I would never call in anybody else for heating and cooling sales and service. Harris is simply the best! Thank you for another great experience. Sincerely, Alfred Glossbrenner

The sales person contacted me promptly, showed me the types of equipment available today, and left brochures of the items I might be interested in. After making my decision, we set up a date and time for installation in the very near future. The installer arrived right on time and completed the task in a clean and professional manner. I am very satisfied. Harris has provided all my heating and air conditioner needs for the past few years.
Description of Work: I had my electronic air filter replaced after 20 years, and a new air purifier installed

They arrived exactly when they said they would. The tech. was very cooling and answered all my questions. The unit is 11 years old and needs to be replaced, but they did not try to sell me a new unit. The tech. waited a period of time to determine if the house was cooling before they left. I was very pleased with the overall service I received.
Description of Work: AC was not cooling. Checked units and determined the unit needed freon.

I was very happy with their promptness and I thought the service people were knowledgeable. When the serviceman came in, he was clean, polite, and on time. The price was appropriate.
