Girard's Garage Door Services

The original appointment time we were given was 10-12 am, but at about 10:30 we received a phone call that the technician was running late, and would arrive between 1 & 3. The technician arrived about 1:30. He was very polite and fixed the garage door opener within 15 minutes. He explained his findings to me and provided suggestions for future maintenance. I was impressed with his speed and competence.

They showed up the same day and made the repairs. Repairman knew exactly what to do and had the right parts with him. Excellent service.

They went fine. That had to be like February or March of last year. It was just the deal price. They gave recommendations of what needed to be done on that service day. So, I really appreciate of that. It was fine. They were on time and accord of us as I expected.

Work was done quickly and everything was completely cleaned up when finished. He even took the time to explain what he was doing and to advise me on a few potential future concerns with my set-up and things to watch out for.|Also, appreciated that I was able to use an Angie's list coupon which saved me $40.

We had purchased a big deal for the service, and my wife handled that one. We loved the service, and we love the keypad, it is a wonderful thing, we don't have to hide keys around the yard anymore. I checked the cost of doing it myself, and it was much more expensive than what they charged us.

Note of problem areas 1. Provided a price but then would not honor Angies list coupon, saying price included a discount. 2. Initially gave an arrival time range(2p-4pm), but at 2:30, called to set a new time of 5 to 6 pm. Door needed new springs, also replaced all rollers, and aligned. Door is old and hadn't had work in at least 15 years. Once he arrived, Work was done promptly and door seems to work well. Added bonus, new rollers are non-metalic, so they are much quieter

It seemed to be going well, until I did some investigation of the components. Their bid had lots of installation charges above and beyond the cost of the materials. For instance, they charge $25 above full retail to install the top-of-the-line garage door opener I wanted to purchase. OK, just a little extra, so I'm OK with that. Then they had marked up the installation of the safety cables by about $20 or so. Once again, I'm OK with their making a little profit on the extras. My car is a 2002 model and its Homelink unit doesn't work with the new technology (rolling code generation) in the new opener, so I needed a transceiver to make it work. Girard's bid me $75 for that unit, installed. I also wanted a surge protector and they bid me that for $45, installed. But when I went to the Liftmaster website, I found that the full retail price on a transceiver is $50. "Installing" the transceiver consists of plugging it into a wall and then holding a button on the provided remote while inside one's car. Similarly, the surge protector's full retail is $24 and "installation" consists of plugging it in and connecting four short wires. I also found a Liftmaster special that was on and called Girard to ask about the markups and whether I could get the three free items on the special (a second remote, an Internet gateway and a wall-mounted entry keypad). I was friendly and not hostile; I just wanted to know if they could do better on the price, given what I had learned. The person I spoke with was defensive and told me, "Tommy takes care of that and he'll need to call you to discuss any discounts. He's busy right now but will call you this afternoon." Needless to say, no one called me after that. Given how quickly Girard's had responded to my request for an estimate and how nice that estimator had been, this all seemed odd to me. So I went back to the Liftmaster site, entered my zip code and got a list of the authorized dealers in my area. Girard's was not listed as an authorized dealer. I selected the listed authorized dealer, had them give me a bid and it was INCREDIBLY much lower. Their Angie's List reviews were also good and so I had them do the job for me. I learned that Liftmaster gives the transceiver free to purchasers of a new garage door opener and I got all of the free items on the special. In addition, the authorized dealer who sold me my new garage door opener and installed it (reviewed elsewhere on this list) did not charge any extra installation fees. The result was that I got everything for almost $300 less. Moral: Authorized dealer means MUCH better price. And the folks who did the job for me were great, so I cannot see how Girard's could have done any better for the incredible price difference.

They were on time and were even able to come the day I had called. They did the work well and everything went fine. Two technicians came out to do the work and it took about an hour and half to complete.

OMG - This story proves you should always shop around - even on Angies List!!!!! The office staff was very nice and polite, and upon my request stated they had someone who was preforming a installation near by and could be here that afternoon to provide a estimate. When he arrived he provided the estimate, but wasn't very personable, as he barely looked up at me when talking to me, was looking at his cell phone most of the time texting or adding up the costs I assume, because the only time he looked up was to write out the estimate - which came to $251.00. When I asked how long it would take, he quipped 20 min. The repair person seemed surprised I didn't want to move forward on the spot - but told him I'd get back to him, as I was on conf calls for work, and had handy men performing work in my home. And because this wasn't the company who had preformed my original installation company I wanted to get additional estimates. Also, something just didn't feel right.... Well so glad I did my due diligence, which paid off. I called Hedershot Door Systems, INC in Nazereth, PA, for a estimate and for the same repair and their estimate was $117.00 = $134 less than Girards! Here's the difference in price based on what was needed: Girard's wanted to charge me $136.00 for 2 110 LB springs, $30 for a Cable Sheave Bearings, $30 for 2 Safety Cables + 55.00 Svc Charge = $251.00 Hedershot Door Systems charged me $28.00 for 2 120 LB springs, $4.00 for a 3" sheave, said I didn't need safety cables, and $85.00 Svc Fee = $117.00. The work was completed in 15 min. Their office staff was fantastic, and the repairmen were on time, personable, and took the time to explain what happened, and also checked the other door for issues - and there were non. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND HEDERSHOT DOOR SYSTEMS for anything garage door related!

I have used Girard's Garage Door Service twice. The first time was to replace a key pad and springs on my garage doors. The second time was to replace a garage door closer motor. The service is fabulous and the price depends on the product you decide to install. I installed a top of the line closer that was quite expensive. No pressure from them to try to sell you an upgrade. You decide, which is sometimes a welcome relief nowadays.

the two guys were in and out in one day - I'm impressed. Took out the old door that had lead paint and sealed them up and took away. Put in the new door and opener - just like that. I like the two work guy who had a sense of humor as well as the office staff. Communication is right up there which was more that appreciated.

Guys were professional and helpful. While they were not able to arrive at the appointment time, they did call to let us know they were running late. We are happy with the garage opener. The only complaint we have, is that they left staples all over the garage floor. Fortunately, my husband found them and cleaned up and nothing happened to the tires on my car.

Excellent experience. I called for an estimate on 4:30 in the afternoon and the technician Mike was at the house at 9:30 the next morning. All work was done quickly and at a reasonable price. Highly recommend.

We had a very positive experience. They were helpful in making sure we ordered the right window options to fit the architectural design of our door openings. Their tech, Vince, did a wonderful job of installing the doors. When the installation was completed, the clean-up aspect of the install was outstanding.

James came out and was very professional. Was done in less than an hour. Lubricated everything. Door much quieter now

Yesterday, my right hand garage door failed completely. It would only open about 2 feet and then close unevenly. Also, the left hand garage door closed in a rough manner. Today, I called and service was performed within one hour. After inspecting the doors the technician determined that the right springs were totally warn. He also noticed that the on both doors the springs were undersized as they were unable to hold the door in place in partially open. After replacing the springs and safety cables and adjusting and inspecting the doors they work quieter and smoother than ever. The technician, Corey, was polite and knowlegeable.

The young man who came out to the house was excellent. He was extremely friendly, very thorough and knowledgeable. He was just a very nice person. I would definitely hire him again. I do not know if all the people who work for the company are like that but this one employee was really really good. He was here for about eight hours but it was a considerably big job for one person. I also appreciate that he responded to a service call that we made that same morning, a Saturday no less, at no extra weekend charge. The garage doors work better than they ever did and sound quieter than ever before. We are very pleased..

circuit board needed to be replaced but i opted to have a new installation. ( the tech was a very good salesman) Blair was the tech, prompt and very courteous and may i add very friendly. he did a very good job and was very efficent loved the fact that he reprogrammed all my vehicles. i pray i won't need Girard's Garage Door Service for at least another twenty year or so, BUT if i did i would use them again.... i highly recommend Girard's Garage Door Service. thanks, enjoyed u Blair

Very prompt service. They responded within minutes of us requesting a quote. The technician was here as promised the next day and was able to fix the problem very quickly.

The technician arrived promptly at the expected time, just hours after we called for assistance. He did the work quickly and professionally, and we are very happy with the service.

About 15 minutes after arriving home on a Saturday evening, my wife and I heard a loud boom in the garage. We quickly found the cause to be a broken door spring. Since we have a single door on our two-car garage, this left both vehicles trapped. After consulting Angie's list, I called and left a message for Jim Girard and rec'd a call back in about 20 minutes. He offered to come out on Sunday morning to help us get the door open so that we could remove the cars, and then come back on Monday morning to do the repair. (I later employed the help of a couple of neighbors to lift the door on Saturday night, so that he didn't have to visit us on Sunday.) On Monday one of Girard's repair techs came out. He was prompt, courteous and quick with his work. He also made adjustments to my door opener correcting for the poor installation by yours truly, and lubricated the door, making the whole operation much quieter than it's ever been. I gave a B for the price as my limited research suggested my cost would probably be under $200. However, the tech explained that since I had a less-common single-sprint design for my door, that the replacement spring was more expensive than the ones I probably priced out. He's probably right. Overall good work, and I've already recommended them to a friend down the street.

The service went well. I was happy with the entire service. They were professional and the price was great. The garage door is in great shape.

Work was done well. He arrived timely and explained what he was doing. All parts and accessories were available and the job was actually done in about 45 minutes. Work is gauranteed but I would use them again.
