+ -1 moreDerrick was great-very professional and courteous. He called before he arrived and wore booties over his boots, which I appreciated, as we don't wear shoes in the house. He offered me three possible ways to fix our problem and he finished the job within the time frame needed. I tried to use the $10 coupon offered on the Angie's site, but he gave me the $25 coupon that has been circulating the neighborhood, but which I hadn't received yet.
Description of Work: Identified the leak in our bathtub and replaced the drain assembly with brass piping. He also replaced and did some caulking around the bath fixtures.

The price quoted on initial presentation from his price chart remained unchanged once the work was underway with the exception of a senior citizen discount, which was very appreciated. Mr. Jackson and his secretary followed up with a courtesy call to make sure everything was okay. I was very satisfied with initial outcome of the work and would recommend them to anyone interested in hiring a professional plumber for a job well done. We plan on having him come back again for some more work we have.
Description of Work: Had a leak in my basement that the fixed. They also hooked up our downstairs bathroom and put in toilets upstairs.

+ -1 moreThey did not install the correct overflow part and I had to have a different company out to fix the problem. The workers left a pretty big mess when they were finished. On the other work they have done for me, they have done a pretty good job. I have found another plumber that suits me better.
Description of Work: The water in our bathtub would not turn completely off and we had them out to replace the double faucet with a single faucet and a new overflow.

+ -1 moreDerrick arrived on time. Shook hands. Maintained eye contact while explaining my plumbing issues. He answered all my questions and was done with the job completely in record time. He was here by 12 noon and gone by 3:15 pm. The job that I considered to be a great big job was done with ease. Derrick and his worker wore cover ups on their shoes when going in and out of the basement, cleaned up their area, disposed of the trash and cast iron pipes and explained all the work that was performed. I also received a discount for being a member of Angie's List.
Description of Work: Derrick replaced a section of main house drain from below the basement floor to the basement ceiling. Original cast iron pipe was removed. Plumbing no longer needed was capped off and eliminated. A new clean out fitting was also installed. Checked all shut-off valves, water heater and temperature.

+ 0 moreGreat. Wonderful experience. Called on a Saturday afternoon. Got a call back within 30 minutes and scheduled an appointment for the next week. Derek showed up 5 minutes ahead of time and discussed all of the work we were planning on doing. Gave me a price estimate and arranged to come back the next day to get the work done (since he needed help for the relocation of the washer/drier unit). Him and 2 other guys showed up right on time again the next day and spent most of the day completing the above mentioned tasks. Kept me informed at all times about the progress of the work and asked for relevant input when needed. All the time they showed great respect for our home/property.
Description of Work: 1)Install garbage disposal on kitchen sink. 2)Installation of water, drain and gas lines for relocation of washer, dryer and utility sink in laundry room. Included stacking and relocation an extremely heavy Kenmore washer and drier set (which also required removal of pedestals that the washer and drier were mounted too).

+ -1 moreThe company did a good job of scheduling an appointment for my work in a timely manner. But aside from this, I was unhappy to be charged for an estimate that was easy to give over the phone and that they were asking so much money for a routine washer change.
Description of Work: I had them come over to change washers on my bathroom faucet. I was quoted $175 for changing the washer. I was told that for a ''longer-term'' solution, it would be better to just have them replace the inside assembly (stem etc.) of my faucet. They quoted $443 to replace the inside assembly of the faucet by their ''standard'' model, and $752 for replacing it stem by the ''deluxe'' model, and over $1500 for replacing by their ''best'' model. I paid $49 just for giving me this estimate (which could have been done over the phone), and did not get the work done since the pricing seemed too high. It turned out to be a good decision. I had another plumber come over, change washers for three different faucets, change a leaking pipe, and shut off a water line, all for slightly less than $250.

+ -1 moreThere are several things that disappoint me. First, although we had discussed the layout, I discovered that he had arbitrarily changed the layout of the bathroom without my permission. We had agreed on a bathroom that would be 5 feet by 8 feet, but he changed the layout to 5 feet by 7 feet which forced the sink to be relocated to a different position. I called him immediately and although he reassured me that this would be fine the current location of the sink makes it too small and is virtually unusable. Second, although Mr. Jackson himself may have done a respectable plumbing job, his subcontractors who actually built the frames/walls/tiling, etc. are not high quality workers. For example, I have many pictures of wooden 2x4 studs that were split in half by their nailing. In addition, there seemed to be a lot of miscommunication between Mr. Jackson and his subcontractors. They did substandard tile work that had to be removed and redone.
Description of Work: We added a new bathroom to the basement. There was no bathroom there prior to the job. Upon meeting with Derrick Jackson, I concluded that he was a professional and respectable businessman. We drew up a plan for the bathroom and he started work within a few days and finished the project almost on time (only two days behind his predicted schedule). His plumbing work has thus far been trouble-free. Overall, I think he is a respectable plumber and is an ambitious general contractor Unfortunately, I am disappointed with his choice of subcontractors and am disappointed with his supervision of our project.

+ -1 moreThe estimator was very courteous, but very aggressive when it came to selling their recommendation. I felt like I was dealing with a car salesman more than a plumber. I was very surprised by this tactic and turned off by the situation. When I told the estimator that I needed to get another quote he took it personal and responded by saying "did I not do a good job, we believe in customer service". He completely missed the point. Overall I think their estimate was very high and over kill, they basically wanted 1K to replace a pressure balancing valve. They also brought in a ladder that left stains on my carpet. This was my first use of Angie's List and this service provider was an Angie's List award winner. I am very disappointed with my first Angie's List experience.
Description of Work: Precision Plus provided an estimate for fixing a leak on a faulty cover plate assembly on a bathtub/shower in my home. The recommendation was to install a single handle pressure balancing valve at 1K.

+ -1 moreAfter work began, he wanted to charge more (too much) for valves he initially thought didn't need replacing. He eventually apologized for the oversight and returned the 1/2 price he'd charged me for it. However, when the stove was installed, I came back a day later to smell gas - lots. Derrick came out immediately and put bubbles on the pipes to find the leak -- none were found. We agreed to a methodology for tracking down the leak -- opening and shutting sections of the system in sequence over time. Later, I called the gas company. What upset me is that they found the leak in 5 seconds with a special detection tool that costs $3,000. It was in the wall -Derrick would have never found it. Significantly, however, the gas company said the leaky copper gas tube from the main to the stove was out of code - it would melt fast in event of a fire. New stainless/plastic tubing would have cost $100 for a new line.
Description of Work: Derrick offered to hook up my new Franklin Stove -- one of the few vendors who would do it without selling me the stove itself. He said it would only take a few hours -- I asked why the high price -- he said that I was paying for his experience. Then the let-down.

+ -1 moreWhen Derrick estimated the job he gave me three tiers of pricing. The price difference between the two top options was $450.00. One had a 10 year warranty and the other had a 20 year. When I pressed him on this big cost difference he said there was also a difference in the clamps used to attach the pipe. The 20 year warranty had better clamps which he then showed me. I agreed to the top price of $2,040.00, which was discounted from $2400 since I joined the Diamond Club for 2 years. He showed up on time, covered all the floors and moved the furniture. He put a hole in the wrong plaster wall, which I had to pay $300.00 to repair in addition to the wall where the pipe was. He removed and replaced the pipe. Although his work was fine, I believe the job was very over priced. I do not believe that different clamps would be used for different warranties. I believe that was a selling technique used to get me to pay the higher price. We settled on $1,750 which was still too high.
Description of Work: Derrick replaced the cast iron drain pipe between the second and third floor. The wall in the bathroom was knocked down, the old pipe was cut out and a new pipe was installed.

+ -1 moreAfter the initial evaluation, Derrick came out two days later and completed all the work in one day and to our satisfaction.
Description of Work: The kitchen waste pipe goes through the garage. The old waste pipe was leaking kitchen waste down onto the garage floor and creating a nasty mess. Derrick, the plumber, made a suggestion on how to not just repair the problem, to also fix a problem related to the main waste pipe as well. Because of Derricks solution we spent about $1000 more then we initially intended, but we killed two birds with one stone.

They reworked original prices and found other work to do that would need to be done. They replaced washer hoses at no cost because they saw they were worn. Their concern for cleanliness was evident in their wearing uniforms and booties.

Not only that, he dealt with my home warranty company which is absolutely tortuous. He talked to them on several occasions and because of him, I was able to get reimbursed for the work Derrick did. Derrick even came in BELOW his estimate, a first for me. Wonderfully accountable and responsible, will use him for all my future plumbing work.
Description of Work: Derrick and his crew located and fixed a very difficult leak between floors. I called him after another plumber abandoned the job because it was over his head. Derrick and his crew accessed the leak, fixed it very quickly, limiting the water damage that had already been done. He devoted his crew to getting the job done over a three day period, he must have moved other appointments to help me.

+ -1 moreThe estimate indicated I needed a new supple line and a replacement of the wax seal in a commode, and the estimate was for either $466 with no guarantee or $500 with a guarantee. I fixed the supply line myself for $20 in parts and it did not need a wax seal at all. I felt the estimate was likely dishonest and at best was totally inaccurate and over priced.

Technician informed me of problem that supply line to dishwasher was leaking and informed me they would replace nipple at cost of $108. Technician cleaned up after he was done. Will use again in future only if they can give me a better price on simple work. I was expecting to pay like $75 for a simple job such as this.

+ -1 moreThe guys, especially the main one, Deval, were extremely courteous and pleasant. The other guy, Justin, was also very nice, I just didn't talk to him as much. They came when they said they would, they struggled a little with getting through the foundation wall, but they stuck to the job and their price, and even gave an Angie's List $15 discount. The work, although competent, seemed a bit clumsy; They could have placed the pipe in a better location, more out of sight. The cleanup could have been better (left things pretty dusty) and, as I mentioned, they would not patch the ceiling drywall where they'd cut a large hole for access. But I may have not questioned them carefully enough about that at the estimate stage. Overall, though, they accomplished the job I hired them to do. And, their price was approximately $400 less than the quote I got from my "regular" plumber.
Description of Work: They installed an additional gas line running from inside our basement to an outside Bar BQ grill. A shut off valve was installed, a gas line pipe was put in, running from our existing gas line to the house, through a foundation wall, with several elbows, to reach a flexible gas line attached to the grill. As the line had to run through a basement closet ceiling, they cut a rather large hole in it for access, which they did not patch up when they were finished (I had thought they would); they said they don't do construction work, but I was not advised of that beforehand. A positive note about this company is that they give you a pre-printed price sheet that shows every type of plumbing work they do. The estimator (who also did our work) thoroughly describes your job and the resulting costs. They also have a much longer warranty than any other plumber I've ever worked with:Two years on repairs and five years on new installation: Parts & labor for any work they do. Remarkable!

+ -1 moreRepresentative said he needed to find the parts and needed to borrow the manual from the new refrigerator. He took the manual but heard nothing for months. When I finally reached him to retrieve the manual so that I could hire someone else to do the work, he said, "I have good news. I know where to get the part. The store that sells it only stays open until 4 pm though, so I can come and do the work." I asked when he could do it and he told me he had nothing for 3 weeks- this after waiting for months. I simply asked him to return the documentation, which he did.

+ -1 morePicking a contractor was not easy, I found Derick Jackson through Angie's List. It was worth the money and saved me time. I was afraid of getting ripped off or getting sub-par work, but once he gave me his action plan for my work, I was at ease and felt more than comfortable to hire him. He and his crew were very polite and on time. He also communicates a potential problem before it happens (the stack) and when it happened he fixed it. Overall, saved me money. I was very happy with the work done and their caring of my home. They also cleaned up everyday. I was able to give him my keys and free access and not have to worry. Derick is a contractor that I would more than recommend. I give him high praise for his work.
Description of Work: Complete rehab of one bathroom and new shower pan and floor for second bathroom. First bathroom was demo to studs, replaced plumbing, new tub, toilet, medic cabinet, and vanity. Tub area and floor were finished with stone tiles. Second bathroom had to have new shower pan, so floor and shower door were replaced with tile. Walls were not done. He found matching tiles for shower and bathroom floor. New toilet, vanity, and medic cabinet were also installed.
