It went very well.
Description of Work: I found this company responsive, knowledgeable about plants and terrain, his pricing fair and the workmanship quite good. They helped me transport firewood from my old property to the new. They found the best place for stacking and stacked and covered it properly. I am pleased with Landrum Landscaping. They came and weeded the beds, mulched and they still cut on an as need basis. I especially like that they do not cut weekly in hot weather.

Have used Landrum for several years for leaf removal and fall and spring clean-up. Final price was always as quoted. Pete kept in touch with me via email to let me know in advance when they would be here to remove the leaves (it's always weather dependent). Several men were here to do the work. Professional and Pete oversees the work.
They are great. He was responsive when he came out to do my original estimate, he got the guys out here and they did a great job. I am really happy with them. They are pretty professional.

I was perfectly satisfied with the work. The price was reasonable, as well. There was a little bit of confusion on who was doing the work, but that was fine with me. They are a local business that had good reviews, and their price was the best.

They have been cutting our grass over the summer. They are a fine company. They charge about $25 per visit and they cut the grass. I don’t have any complaints about them. I would ask others to go ahead and use their services. Their pricing seems to be fine. I wouldn’t be able to comment on their punctuality since it usually happens when we aren’t around. I would continue to use their services in the future too.

He came out. He was very professional and very reasonably priced. He had a plan to help the drainage in my side yard. It was probably a good plan, but I figured out a way to do it cheaper on my own. As a result I did not use them.

The work was done in one day-- for that I am extremely grateful.
Description of Work: A team of guys weeded a 20x10 patch of our yard, transplanted & moved out hydrangea and put in 4 other plants and some flowers. They also put down some sod. The hydrangea is still kind of struggling, I don't know if it was such a good idea to transplant it in the middle of summer. Also, it seemed pretty expensive for the area of yard that was worked on. They put mulch and lime in the same area.
All of the work was satisfactory to excellent, with the exception of the cesspool decommissioning, which was unsatisfactory. Also, snow removal charges were based on "official" snowfall amounts, rather than actual amounts area where I live, and therefore often excessive. When I complained about what I considered overcharging for snow removal and said that I wanted to pay $350 instead of $400, I was accused by the owner of this company of trying to get out of paying my bills and told to find another landscaper for future work. I had been a steady customer for 12 years and paid all bills punctually, including those for the disputed snow removal. In addition, bills from this company were never sent in a timely manner, they were always 1-2 months late. Owner responds to email messages, but does not return phone calls.
Description of Work: Fall and spring clean-up; lawn mowing; brick patio and walkway construction, shrubbery planting, gutter cleaning, cesspool decommissioning, snow removal (the last performed work and the charge listed above) for removal from late December 2009 through February 2010).

Response from LANDRUM LANDSCAPING
The Member was only a customer for 1 year. His mom was a customer for 11 years. The Member was extremely difficult to deal with. He argued about every job that we did and every bill that he got. I finally stopped doing business with him because I couldn't stand how much of my time he was wasting. His statement about the snow depths is insulting. He requested that we walk around his driveway at 3am with ruler to confirm that the depth was 4" and not 5 or 6". He wanted it plowed at 5 but not 4. Our bills are always sent at the end of the month, with the exception of the year that my wife was pregnant, and bills went out a month late all year that year only. The Member lived in New York and always got our bills late and always paid late because he only came into PA 1 or 2 times a month. Not my fault. The Member is extremely cheap. In the above mentioned cesspool incident, our original price was for 5 truckloads of fill. He stopped us at 4 loads in order to save money because it looked full to him. When I informed him that 5 loads were needed and that the cesspool would fail (it would settle over time) he disagreed. Sure enough, the next spring saw settling and he requested that we "fix" the job for free, despite the fact that our initial agreement was for 5 loads, not 4. Had he listened to me, the project would not have failed. I resent this misrepresentation of facts.

Several mistakes were made as a result half the lawn is now dead and I need to redo what they did. In Installing the drainpipe they use preferated pipe in front of hous instead of solid to carry water AWAY from the foundation. They latter replaced with solid after I had to explain this to them. Lawen died becaus proper care was no taken with tree stump cleanup of chippings. A fungus developed and killed a large part of lawn. When I brought It to the attention of owner Pete he talked me in circles and never came to look at what My concerns were. He likes to tell you what you want to hear and not follow through.THis problem could have been solved with 25 dollars worth of chemical treatment but he was not interested in making good on his work and making sure the customer was happy.
Description of Work: weed / clean grade side yard of house and plant lawn from seed. Also install drainpie under new lawn from roof downspout. Grind down tree stump in same area as new lawn was planted.

Response from LANDRUM LANDSCAPING
The day we installed this customer's plants and mulch, he decided to mow his lawn at the same time. Half-way through the mowing process, he brought his baby (only a few months old) out in its stroller. He parked the stroller at the end of his driveway, on a hill, next to a dangerous road, facing the sun. He continued to trim, edge and blow off his lawn. Stones from the trimmer and dust from the blower hit the baby as it sat defenseless in it’s stroller. The customer was oblivious even though we tried to signal to him that his baby was in the direct path of the debris. Now that you know this about the customer, nothing else that I say about him will seem shocking. This customer's recollection of the project is all wrong. He requested the perforated hose because it was cheaper than the solid pipe that we usually install. He also watched us remove all of the stump grindings to his complete satisfaction. The customer works at night so he was home for the entire duration of the project. He watched like a hawk and circled like a vulture the entire time we were on his property. Everything that we did was done with his approval. In fact, due to his frequent mind-changes, we had to make last minute trips to the store to pick up materials. Even the plants he chose, which he personally viewed at the nursery, did not meet his satisfaction once they got to his property. Once we laid the plants out, he had difficulty deciding on the spacing. He had trouble formulating any sort of opinion. He would ask us about what “looked nice”. I repeatedly had to tell him that in landscaping, what appeals to the homeowner is what “looks nice”. I also had to fight with him to make him drain the downspout legally on the grass, not on the sidewalk as he wanted (which is a codes violation and a hazard in the winter, when water freezes). This customer is correct in his description of my excessive talking. I talked and talked but nothing made sense to him. He doesn’t comprehend much and as a result makes poor decisions, even when asking a professional for advice. The customer frequently had an idea in his head, usually from something he read somewhere, that was hard to change. He would ask questions and direct the conversation to the end that he wanted reached, regardless of whether the information was correct or not. I found myself fighting uphill battles trying to help him understand much of what we were doing. I explained to him that his lawn would have mushrooms (the fungus he referred to) for years, even decades, as the root system of the large tree decayed. The tree that was removed was massive and the roots spanned the entire lawn, into areas that we weren’t working in. The customer was not willing to have them ground up due to monetary reasons. He almost killed the lawn on the first cut after we installed the lawn. He repeatedly scalped the hillside portion of the lawn, then called us to give him a free visit and tell him why we thought the lawn didn’t look good. A few weeks later, he scalped the grass again. It almost died. We rushed over and sprayed it with a liquid fertilizer containing iron to help it green up. This spring is a perfect example of this customer not listening. When I was tired of dealing with him, I told him over the phone that we would not be taking care of his lawn treatments any longer. My wife was extremely sick, so I used that as an excuse even though the truth is that I was tired of holding his hand. A month later I got an email from him “canceling” our service, even though I had cancelled him a month earlier. Please note that we installed his lawn 10 months ago, yet he is blaming a fungus problem on us now. This is a lame attempt to not accept responsibility of his own poor care of his property

I have worked with Landrum Landscaping for years, and they do an excellent job with leaf removal, mulching, general yard clean-up at reasonable prices. With the rains this past year, my outside walkways had deteriorated to the point where water was pooling and creating pockets of soil erosion. When I mentioned it during a clean-up scheduling, Pete offered to do the job for me (I hadn't realized they did hardscaping as well.) Pete's team reset my flagstones, repaired and/or replaced any cracks, provided replacement stones when necessary and repointed the steps. They were even able to blend the new and old stones together to give the walkways a natural look. When Pete came to inspect the job, he requested some additional minor work to be done to make it perfect, even though I was already happy. To go one step further, I mentioned I was having difficulty finding a tree guy to remove some dead branches from some trees on my property. He was able to get someone out right away to take care of the dead limbs and removed them from the property with little or no evidence that they had even been there! Again, at a very reasonable price. All in all, they are a great company to work with, and I would recommend them highly to anyone looking to do landscaping/hardscaping/minor tree work.
Description of Work: August - repaired and regraded two flagstone walkways, removed dead tree limbs - previous work has included mulching, fall and spring clean-ups, weed treatments, etc.

I was contacted literally minutes after submitting an inquiry. It took only a few brief e-mails to settle on a date for an estimate. Pete showed up on time, we discussed what needed to be done, and he e-mailed me an estimate a few days later. After accepting the estimate he promised to have a crew out that week and two days later the work was done. Fantastic!

I have some basement water issues, and decided to call Landrum to explore the possibility of the issue coming the surface. Very professional staff. On time. On budget. Pete, the owner, stopped by twice before to estimate. Confirmed appt. and showed up on time. Followed up with email questions. Stopped by after the job to make sure it was done correctly.
Description of Work: Landrum cleaned out overgrowth in several areas of my lawn. They cleared the side lawn beside my house of very dense weeds. Pulled vines from wall, fence, air conditioning unit, big bush. Trimmed back bushes. Cleared out excess vines, bush from sloped backyard to prep for mulching and better design that leads to easier maintenance. Removed caterpillar tents from three parts of tree (long hanging - not higher tree work). Removed all trash and cleaned up.
