We offer landscape design, installation and maintenance to mostly residential customers. Owner has a degree in Ornamental Horticulture/Environmental Design and is a certified PA Pesticide applicator.
He provided a itemized detailed estimate within a week of the site visit. He was very nice and professional. We decided to pick another contractor that had a lower overall price and more reviews on Angie's list. Some parts of the estimate were lower but I felt the estimate for the planting beds were a little high. If the price was lower, I wouldn't have had a problem using him. I would consider him for future work.
Description of Work: Provided me an estimate for redoing my back and side yards. Work included reseeding, addressing drainage issues and planting new beds.

It went very well. I'm a very busy person and I've mainly communicated with Peter via email, which is my preference. To his credit there hasn't been any misunderstanding on what I wanted to occur. His crew showed up promptly when scheduled and worked for a few hours. He finished ahead of schedule and reduced the hourly portion of the cost accordingly. I was happy with the results. Subsequently, he took care of weekly yard work and leaf cleanup recently, which has occurred to my satisfaction.
Description of Work: The provider did a yard cleanup after a couple of months of neglect overt his past summer. This included mowing the lawn, trimming bushes, cleaning out the gutter, cutting back vines, and hauling all debris off the site.

The service went poorly. They had less than adequate mowing service, they were sloppy, they didn't show up timely, made excuse when raining because of blade requirements, and they would trim some areas because it would trim off too much of their weed eating line. They sent no email and didn't call if there was a no show but still charged us for the service.
Description of Work: Landrum Landscaping provided lawn service for me. The lawn service included mulching, trimming, and mowing the lawn.

Response from LANDRUM LANDSCAPING
The member signed up for “flat-rate monthly mowing”, not weekly cutting as she claims. Our flat-rate policy is in place to prevent problems with customers such as this. If a lawn gets missed one week, the crew would have to spend a lot of time the following week with additional trimming mowing and edging to catch up with the previously missed mowing. Our flat-rate policy covers these additional expenses. Her property is surrounded by a stone wall and iron fence with only one entrance at the driveway. No other access to her property exists. Someone in her household would frequently park a car that would block access to the lawn that would prevent us from mowing it. My crew would attempt as many as 6 times in one week to gain access to the yard but no one would answer the door to move the car. If the access was blocked in the morning, the crew would attempt it again at the end of the day. We wasted countless hours and gallons of gasoline trying to accommodate her property’s unique conditions. It is important to note that her lawn was successfully cut 4 times per month. Her property is on a main road near our yard that I pass daily and I personally guarantee that she received the proper amount of mowing each month. She is probably confused because it ended up being cut on different days of the week, making it hard to determine a schedule. This is not our fault. I am insulted by this review for a number of reasons. First, I have 4 specific emails from the member complimenting us on our responsiveness and quality of work, both for mowing and for the gardening that we provided as well as for our simple billing methods. She directly thanked me for being professional and responsible. I have no emails or phone calls registering any complaints. Secondly, parts of her yard were frequently littered with trash and dog waste. The crew frequently had to skip certain portions of the yard due to piles of trash. She claims in her review that we “missed” areas but this was based completely on the sloppy trashy condition of her yard. These conditions were constant from the time I looked at the property in March of 2012 right through until September when my crew last visited her property. It is important to note at this point that the member has not paid her bills since June, despite receiving grass cutting for July, August and September. We suspended her service for October due to non-payment. I emailed her to see if there was a problem. At this point she said that a few cuts were missed. I asked for the number of missed cuts and dates missed in order to credit her account and she was unable to provide answers to either question. I tried to work with her but she was hard to reach and did not furnish any additional information. I found it strange that she waited until she was so far behind with her payments to inform me that her lawn was skipped. I also found it strange that she knew the lawn was skipped but didn’t know when or how many times. I told her I could discount her some mowing if she provided any details as to when it was missed or how many cuts were missed. She has yet to furnish any information. It is also important at this point to state that the member claims to have sent a check, yet we haven’t received any. I attempted to contact her 6 weeks later regarding the check that she claimed to have sent and got no response. A week later, this review on Angie’s List showed up. We have yet to receive the check. I suspect that she is simply trying to avoid paying her bill and her claims of bad service are simply a cover up. I ASK THAT THE CUSTOMER REMOVE OR EDIT THIS REVIEW TO REFLECT ONLY THE TRUTH, since she was very happy with our service throughout the year. Trying to avoid payment does not mean that our services were bad.

Overall we were pleased with quotation but after the deposit was paid and the initial clean up of the lot was done it was difficult to get the crew back for the installation of plants, top soil and mulch. As we moved later into the month of November we insisted on having plantings done before the weather turned. We were finally able to get this scheduled but the installation of plants, top soil and mulch appears hurried and sloppy. Some plants were not even planted into the dirt and simply dropped and covered with mulch. We contacted Pete about coming back to install the plants correctly. We were told that this is the way that Landrum installs plants. After consulting other professionals we understand this to be improper planting. I am concerned that these plants may not live through the winter months and we'll have wasted hundreds of dollars are plants and shrubs that will have to be replaced.
Description of Work: We hired Landrum to create new landscape beds, regrade existing areas, seed grass and clean up wood chips from a tree stump that had been taken down previously by another company. Additionally we asked Landrum to purchase and plant new shrubs to complete landscaping design.

Response from LANDRUM LANDSCAPING
I am EXTREMELY disgusted by this "C" rating. This review does not represent the truth. I responded to every call, email and text message and I responded in a timely manner. I did EXACTLY what the estimate described, for the price we agreed on, in a timeframe determined by the customer. The statement that the customer had trouble getting me to come back is completely false. Actually, the OPPOSITE is true. The customer stood me up multiple times and did NOT show up to her own appointments. DO NOT WORK FOR THIS CUSTOMER! Here's why: Tammy called me to set up an appointment to look at a house that she was working on (not where she lived). She picked the time and date. I arrived on time. Tammy did not show. Instead, she sent her husband, which is fine EXCEPT that the first words out of his mouth were " you will need to meet with my wife because she makes all of the decisions". Ok, I can live with one missed appointment. I discussed with the husband what she MIGHT want, but ultimately set up another appoinment to meet with Tammy 1 week letter. Guess what. NO SHOW. Again, she sent her husband. Again, we reviewed what she MIGHT want, but accomplished little. Ultimately, we agreed on some work via email estimate to repair the lawn and garden areas, but the design and installation would take place after I met with Tammy. They said that they would meet me to give me a deposit check. Guess what. NO SHOW. I waited 45 minutes, emailed and called but no answer. They finally contacted me a few days later and agreed to leave the check taped to the back door. If you are keeping track, this is the 3rd time in 3 weeks that I have been stood up. A normal person would have bailed out on them by now but I am a nice person, and I try to take care of my Angie's List customers. At this point I have yet to meet Tammy and I have yet to finalize the landscape design that she wants done. We set a date to start the lawn work for the following week. When my crew arrived, they found the property overrun by contractors replaicng windows and working on inside and outside projects that left my crew no place to park our trucks. Do you think that they could have told me this? I had to send my guys back to unload the trucks and go on to a different project, all at great expense to me. Tammy picked yet another date that she and her husband would be available to walk the property, on a Saturday morning, to review the layout that she wanted for the landscape. Guess what. NO SHOW. I waited for 45 minutes, called, texted, emailed. No one showed. Thats 4 missed appointments by Tammy in 4 weeks. When we finally met the next week, for the first and finally time, Tammy spent about 10 minutes showing me where she wanted the plants, then left. At the time, they were happy with the work. The husband asked me to meet at his HOME to get paid, and review some other work that he wanted done. Guess what. NO SHOW. He went to the wrong address. Thats 5 missed appointments in 6 weeks. What a nightmare. These may be the worst customers I have had all year. Her claim that she couldnt get me to return is absolutely baseless. She claimed that the plants were planted incorrectly. However, the way that she wanted them planted would have smothererd them with mulch. It is important to note at this point, that she had purchased the plants long before we met. She locked them in the garage with no light or water. The house was under construction and had no running water from October through the end of December so the plants were withered when we installed them. The only water that they got was after we planted them when it rained. Since no one lived at the house, the only person there daily was the contractor, and he claimed that no one watered the plants for as long as he was working there because the plumbing was shut down. Tammy's concern that the plants might not make it through the winter because of the way we planted them is absurd. If they don't make it through the winter, it is because the house has no running water and the landscape is completely neglected by Tammy. I really wish Tammy would change her review and grades to represent the level of service that she received as well as the truth about the events that took place on the property.

Peter was very prompt and professional in his communications during the estimate process. The cost estimate he provided was in line with our expectations of the work to be done. While we ultimately decided to go with a different vendor for our lawn replacement project, I would contact Landrum Landscaping again if we have future landscaping needs.
Description of Work: We contacted Landrum Landscaping with a request to visit our home and provide an estimate for completely replacing our 1200 square foot yard, to include removing & disposing of the old lawn, treating the soil, depositing new topsoil, and laying down either seed or sod.

The company promptly replied to web inquiry, phone contact was established and a home visit from the company estimator were arranged in a timely and professional fashion. Let me know if you need any more input from us. and quot; 06/02/2012: Contractor and quot;I’m out of town for a funeral but I will finish your estimates when I return… and quot; Never heard from the company again. the work was great. I actually didn't realize the extensive trenching work involved in installing a french drain outside. in no way did it prevent normal use of our property while the work was underway.
Description of Work: we needed extensive exterior water control around one side of our House Landrum was able to devise a system to achieve this with minimal disruption, though it took some time to complete. weather was the major factor in delays.
They come based on how quickly grass is growing/amount of rain. Sometimes weekly, sometimes less. But to simplify billing, I am billed the same amount each month, from April to October. They do a satisfactory job mowing the lawn. One thing to note is that when you hire them to mow your lawn for the season, it is implied that you agree to ongoing mowing for the next season and the next, etc., unless you specifically call to cancel. I was not aware of that when I hired them last year, but it is not that big a deal for me because I don't have time to mow anyway.

Pete and his team were great! The berm was a very inexpensive solution to a drainage problem we were having and was completed promptly and professionally. The new perennial beds are perfect in front of our bungalow and immediately received complements from neighbors on all sides, including one who has lived in the neighborhood since the 1940's -- he said that the house had never looked better! Pete was extremely easy to work with. He was patient with my questions about the plants he suggested, he was mindful of selecting drought-tolerant plants since he was planting during the August heat, was excellent with his communication, and sent me the listing of the plants he planted and care instructions once he finished the install. Overall we were extremely pleased and will be using Landrum again in the future!

This was a small job, so it was fit in when Landrum had availble time. The crew came and cut down the bamboo at the end of December. They were very thorough and checked with me to make sure they did all that I wanted. They did a great job of cleaning up. The tilling wasn't done until the end of January. This was not a problem as replanting wasn't going to start until the spring.

Peter Landrum, the owner, was very responsive. I liked him a lot. My only problem was that the actual workers were different. I didn't actually get to see him at the end of the two jobs. On one job, there was a problem. There was a portion of the job that they hadn't finished. He couldn't know because he wasn't around the job. However, he did come back and fix it. I prefer people that actually do the work, or who at least are there with their people. I didn't see him throughout the entire job. In the end, they did fine. The pricing was reasonable.

In all fairness, I was under the impression that she had moved out. She had already bought another house and was living in the new location so I didn't think that I would be able to interact with the customer where the work was being done. This project was a last-minute rush job to get the house to settlement so we squeezed her in at the last minute. I had been on the job the other times my crew did work there.
