Bob was wonderful. He was flexible in scheduling the inspection, professional and obviously very knowledgeable. Bob inspected in interior electrical breakers, wiring and outlets and also performed a full inspection of all outdoor fixtures and the electrical connection from the power lines to the house itself. He offered many good suggestions for how to make the electrical systems safer and more efficient and provided an estimate for the required repairs and advice on the upgrades I was interested in adding. I would highly recommend Bob and Lehigh Valley Electric Inc. I walked away from the inspection with a great deal of confidence that he had uncovered most of the problems with the electrical systems and how each item would need to be addressed. His delivery of the estimate was quick and complete.
Description of Work: I purchased an Angie's List special for a whole house electrical inspection. I used it to have an electrical inspection performed on a home I was thinking of purchasing.

Since there was other work being done in the house at the same time LV Electric was kind enough to perform their work in stages to co-exist with the other contractors. They even did all the coordination with the inspectors and the electric company. Being a DIY'er I don't have much experience with contracting out work..... I've heard horror stories. But if it's all as easy as dealing with LV Electric I'm gonna sell my tools. They did their work when they said they would at a very attractive price. Thanks Bob!

Excellent. I have used Bob Holland on multiple occasions since buying this house four years ago, and wrote of him some four years ago on Angie's List. He is responsive, professional, and personable and I would not use anyone else for electrical service.

Outstanding service. I initially contacted Bob for estimates on adding junction boxes to ceilings for ceiling fans. Unfortunately found out shortly after our first estimate that we were moving, so instead gave him another job. Very responsive to emails and phone calls. Absolutely recommend. Very friendly too!

He arrived on time and did a really thorough review. He pointed out possible problems and places where all was well. He also went over all the safety features that are required in new housing, but not at the time my house was built. What I did like was that he didn't push me to get these things done. Just pointed out possible problems or improvements. I did have some items I wanted changed and he discussed the most efficient ways to get those done. He promised to send me a estimate of the things I want done. I can't imagine not giving him the job. He also pointed out the Angie's list coupon that might be usable for the work I needed.

He came on time worked quickly and neatly, explained any extra costs and the necessity for the work which was not unexpected as the house was built in 1889. He returned several weeks after he finished his contracted work when we discovered a receptacle that we all believed was working but no longer appeared to function. He rechecked the wiring ( which was not any part of his contractual agreement with us) and explained that the existing wiring was dangerous and illegal as it had no ground wire. He then disconnected the outlet and installed a cover plate at NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE before ending his extra long workday with a smile. He is a true professional and we will use his services again

We called Lehigh Valley Electric and Bob came out to assess the situation and give an estimate. There was some delay to being able to schedule the work, due to other scheduled work that Bob had, but we were able to schedule the work within a week. The estimate Bob gave us was the amount he charged, even though things did not go smoothly. Bob contacted PPL because the main power supply needed to be turned off and had scheduled the date and time to meet at our house. At the schedule time, Bob arrived, but PPL did not. Bob contacted PPL again, and they told him they could not come out. Bob continued calling PPL until he found a supervisor that assured him that a crew would come We were very happy with the work performed and Bob's professionalism. I work out of our home and needed the electric to be able to work. Bob got me back up and running in a reasonable amount of time. We appreciated Bob's diligence. He successfully got PPL out and completed the work within the time he estimated, even with the extra time he spent contacting PPL and waiting for them to come out. Bob did not leave until PPL arrived and he could complete the job. When PPL didn't show up, we were concerned that Bob may not be able to get the work done, but apparently Bob is used to working with PPL and knew how to get through to them. We will call him again if we need electrical work done.
Description of Work: After the snow storm in October 2011, we learned that the main connection of the electric line to our house had been pulled away from the house. The main electric line from the electric pole needed to be turned off so Bob could secure the line to the house and repair the connection. This required Bob to coordinate the date and time with PPL.

I called Lehigh Valley Electric in Allentown, Pa., after finding many favorable ratings for this company on Angie’s List. I called the company and explained that I was looking for an electrician to evaluate my mother-in-law’s 85 year-old house prior to putting it up for sale. Lehigh Valley Electric was the only electrical company I called. From the first call to the receptionist, to the prompt response of the owner, we thought we had gotten lucky with our AL pick. Bob Holland, the owner, called back a short time after I placed my call. He suggested a walk through together and made an appointment at our convenience during our next trip into Allentown. Mr. Holland was a pleasure to work. He listened as we pointed out everything we already knew would need to be addressed before sale and then he went through the home himself, with my sister-in-law in tow, taking notes on his observations. By the end of his tour, we had a long list of electrical issues that would need to be addressed. He took the time to explain his observations and why repairs/removal/upgrades might be necessary. Because we were on a tight schedule and lived 300 miles away, we asked Mr. Holland when he could get started on our long list. Because our city inspection would not take place for more than a month, Mr. Holland suggested that we NOT schedule any repairs and wait for the inspection. Mr. Holland divided the items on our long list into several categories: items he knew the city inspector would insist be repaired or replaced before a certificate of occupancy would be given; items that the city inspector may or may not require, and finally, a list of suggested repairs or upgrades that a city inspector would be unlikely to require or suggest. He thought we should wait and see what the city inspector would want before spending a very large amount of money on repairs that may not be required and then evaluating anything extra in light of our budget. With lots of other necessary repairs, this was a welcomed suggestion. When the city inspector completed his review, we were given a list of all necessary electrical work. Mr. Holland took that list and addressed every item, even working late to complete all the work in a single day, rather than the estimated two days. He collaborated with my sister-in-law on any repairs where there was any question about how much of a repair or upgrade was required, so she could have some input into controlling the final cost of the work. Because we live on the other side of the state, we knew that we could be taken advantage of by an unscrupulous contractor. We know next to nothing about electrical work, so we knew we needed to hire an electrician with the knowledge, skills, honesty and integrity to make sure that all repairs were done well, while no unnecessary work added to our mounting pre-sale expenses. Our experience with Bob Holland of Lehigh Valley Electric exceeded our expectations. We believe that our electrical repairs were done by highly skilled professionals. Moreover, Mr. Holland’s collaborative approach and his concern for our interests, especially our expenses, led us to regard him as a partner in our effort to get my mother-in-law’s house ready for sale, not someone out to take advantage of us. Our only regret is that we could not afford what Mr. Holland would have to charge us for coming out to Pittsburgh whenever we need a really good, honest electrician! P.S. Sorry, I don't know what this job cost. I did not pay the bill, but my sister in law thought the charges were very fair for the work done.
Description of Work: Inspection of an 85 year old home being readied for sale. Removal of floor outlets and installation of wall outlets.Removal of knob and tube wiring in basement. Repairs/replacment/upgrades to electrical wiring as required by the city inspector.

Bob Holland is terrific! He responded to my phone call within a couple hours. He came by to give me an estimate within a couple days. He gave me an estimate for repair and an estimate for replacement. We went with the repair estimate which was very reasonable. Once the parts he needed came in, he performed the job meticulously and in a very timely fashion. His estimate was exactly what he charged. He is courteous and professional. The lights have worked perfectly despite the stormy weather we've had over the last couple of months. Bob Holland and Lehigh Valley Electric is definitely on the top of my list when I need another electrical or lighting job done.
Description of Work: Two of our outdoor Kichler pathway lights were not working. The fixtures where the lightbulb would need to be replaced had cracked due to weathering over the years. We had to either replace them or try to get them repaired. Replacing these fixtures would be very expensive. Online they were running close to $300/ light fixture.

I purchased a whole-house surge protector through an Angie's List deal; Bob came out and installed it promptly with no issues going through Angie's List. While he was there, I asked him to give me a quote for a manual transfer switch/sub panel install for a backup generator. He got back to me with a proposal within a week and we were able to schedule the work for the following week. Bob showed up on time, went through the house with to figure out which circuits we wanted to power, and went to work. A few hours later, everything was in place and his work area was clean. He even emailed instructions on how to use the generator, which are now printed out and hanging on the door of the sub panel for the next time we lose power. His final price came in under the proposal; the above price reflects both the generator hookup and the whole house surge. Price was cheaper or comparable to other quotes we got.

Bob showed up 5 minutes ahead of schedule and asked me to join him to review the installation. Having a family member who was an electrician, I knew enough to understand what was going to be done and how. After 3 hours, Bob asked me to once again look over the installation and he explained in detail how to proceed with using a generator and the safe way to start the switch over. I will tell you his work was very neat, orderly and professional. He cleaned up after all the drilling and cutting and vacuumed the area thoroughly. This is one of those jobs that when the contractor departs you feel good that it's done right and there will be no further issues, something rare these days. The final pleasantry was that the final bill was less than Bob's initial quote. Angie's report on Lehigh Valley Electric was spot on and I am adding to all the other testimonials for Bob's professionalism, qualtiy work and reasonable cost. If I need additional electrical work, I'll be contacting him for sure.
Description of Work: After having Bob install a whole house surge protector a month ago via Angie's List special, I asked him for an estimate for an external generator hookup to my electrical panel. I had researched this issue after the Fall 2011 snow storm and had numerous price quotes for equipment. When Bob provided his estimate, his prices for the panel/breakers and hookup hardware were almost identical to the online prices. Along with those, his labor cost was reasonable. I felt he was not someone who is trying to price gouge the customer so I proceeded to have him install the equipment.

I used Angie's List for the first time. We had been discussing having electrical work done in our home but we didn't know who to use as we are fairly new to the area. Lehigh Valley Electric had a very nice article with good recommendations on Angie's List. I e-mailed my interest in receiving an estimate for electrical work in our home. A response was received within 24 hours and appointment established for the estimate. I was pleased with response time both for e-mails as well as phone contact when it was close to appointment time. The electrician was professional in all manners - including dress and communicating with me as a customer. The electrician (Bob Holland) even pointed out that Angies was running a special with his company on recessed lighting which we did purchase at a considerable savings. A detailed estimate was sent within two days in the form of a written agreement. Visa was accepted. During the time Bob was here to offer the estimate, he even took time to look at a non-working light in our kitchen and was able to temporarily restore it to working without charge. Work was begun within two weeks. Bob arrived with another electrician and they worked together quietly and professionally. They were careful to cover all furniture and flooring with protective covering and vacuumed any residual dirt after their work was complete. They arrived promptly and during the time they were working politely asked questions regarding my preference of placement, etc. for the outlets and lighting. My husband and I had been concerned about someone having to work up in the rafters to connect lighting for the new ceiling lights, recessed lights and outlets. They had no problems working under those conditions. We had a concern regarding a smell with one of the ceiling fixtures a few days after the work was done. Bob returned our e-mail quickly and stopped by the following day to check out the wiring and fixture. It was decided that the smell was produced from the high wattage of the bulbs in the ceiling fixture. I would highly recommend Lehigh Valley electric and Bob Holland in particular. You will not have any concerns about the quality of his work - be it big or small!
Description of Work: We had two ceiling brackets installed with a light with attached ceiling fan in two bedrooms with dimmer switches. We also had installation of a kitchen ceiling fixture light with fan. Three new recessed lights were installed in the living room with dimmer switch. Additionally, two new outlets were installed - one in bathroom and one in garage.

Description of Work: Bob came the same day I called with an estimate. We had an issue with our oven and a GFIC and the radon wiring.. He said the oven probably needed to be looked at by an appliance repairman, but gave us an estimate for a new circuit. We decided to just fix the GFIC and the Radon installation. Bob was everything we could've asked for in an electrician, from the quote to job completion. During the quote phase he listened to my current and future circuit needs and helped me determine what would work best to accommodate those. I had received a quote from another electrician that included additional work that Bob showed me was not necessary. He took the time to answer all my questions and help me learn what I needed to know about current electrical code and requirements. His price was very reasonable, so we hired him. Bob was on time and did excellent work. The new panel is in perfect working order and has solved a lot of present and future circuit issues for us. When he was finished he went over what he had done and advised me on how to expand for future circuits for a dishwasher, etc. I was glad to be able to ask him questions and get answers that I could understand at my level of electrical know-how (which is novice at best). We highly recommend Lehigh Valley Electric!

I checked Angie's List for an electrician. Since they had excellent reviews, I phoned Lehigh Valley Electric. Bob, the owner, called me back promptly and we arranged for a time that would be convenient. As he said he would, Bob called before our arranged time to let me know he was on his way. He then arrived right on time. He really listened to everything that I wanted him to know. He thoroughly explained everything that would need to be done in order for the repairs to be completed. He is extremely knowledgeable and he patiently answered each and every question that I had. He then put on shoe covers before he got to work. He figured out why the electricity had gone out in one area of our house and quickly remedied that at no charge. He then attended to the ceiling fan and deduced that it needed a light kit to repair it. So that we wouldn't have to locate the part ourselves, he offered to contact his supplier to obtain one if they were still available. He then thoroughly handled the issues with the smoke detectors and that entire system. He then only charged $79.50. As it turned out, that light kit is no longer available so we bought another ceiling fan and Bob will be installing that for a charge of $125.41 . Update: Bob came over yesterday to install the fan. He called and then arrived on time and got right to work. He was very tidy and laid down covers to protect the work area. He was very careful when carrying ladders and things around our home so that they wouldn't touch walls or furnishings. The final charge matched the estimate. We are very pleased with the very professional and expert service that Lehigh Valley Electric offers and we're grateful to Angie's List for helping us find this excellent contractor.
Description of Work: Worked on the smoke-detector system, investigated why the electricity was out in one area of the house, checked a ceiling fan whose light would only rapidly cycle on and off, and installed a new ceiling fan.

I contacted Lehigh Valley Electric via email and heard back very quickly. Appointment was set up within a week. Estimate was given over the phone based on the information I knew about what did and didn't need to be done. After installer completed work the final total for job was less than 50% of the original estimate because it was so easy. I was ready to pay the full $200 I had verbally agreed to and he surprised me when he asked for only $100. I'm sure I could have installed the smoke detectors myself but I wanted the job done right. Will definitely go back to this company again. Installer was Bob Holland. He was very professional and personable. Highly recommended!
Description of Work: I had five hard-wired smoke detectors replaced. All wiring was already in place so it wasn't a difficult job. Installation was completed in about 30 minutes. Would definitely use company again.

I got tired of dealing with multiple contractors to get an attic fan replaced and called Solar Reflections to give me an estimate on a Solar Attic fan..They came two days later for an estimate. I liked what they said and the fan was installed that day. With the energy credit it was cheaper than other estimate i received.

Response from Lehigh Valley Electric Inc
During our initial phone conversation, you said you had called to have your entire attic fan replaced, including the housing that goes through the shingles on your roof. I suggested that you just needed to replace the motor, not the entire thing, but you said you had done that years ago, and wanted an entire new unit. When I arrived, I did got into your attic to see what type of attic fan you had, but I did not confirm that you needed to replace the entire unit. That was what you wanted to have done. As soon as I came out of the attic, I asked if you had considered having a solar unit installed (even though that would cut me out of the transaction entirely). You said you did not want one because you are not convinced that they work well enough. Since you didn’t want to simply replace the motor, or go with a solar unit, I asked if you knew a roofer who could install the fan housing. You said you did not, and asked that I find a roofer. Part of the reason it took so long for me to get the estimate to you was the trouble I had finding a roofer that I could feel comfortable recommending. I am not a general contractor, just an electrical contractor, and we do not do roofing. Most companies I called did not call me back, and most of those that did seemed too questionable for me to be responsible for. I am sorry I disappointed you, but I hope to make it up to you if you’ll give me another chance in the future. -Bob Holland Lehigh Valley Electric

Very pleased with the quality of work, and Mr. Holland's professionalism and diligence. I was well infomed of options, alternatives, and needs for this work. Pricing was good, and all commitments were honored and promises kept. Mr Holland and his partner were consummate professionals and gentlemen while working in the home- polite, respectful, and courteous. All work was done to my satisfaction, areas were cleaned up afterwards. Mr. Holland made sure that I had ample opportunity to try out the generator and panel, and ensure that all worked properly. Even the electrical inspector contracted by the township remarked "This guy knows what he's doing !" while inspecting the transfer panel work. I was also very pleased to receive typed instructions on how to switch over to the generator when an outage occurs, in simple and easy to understand language. I used Angies List to contact a few local electrical services companies, and chose Lehigh Valley Electric after meeting with Mr. Holland. Truly a pleasure to have a local independent guy that I can count on for all future electrical work. Highly recommend Mr Holland and Lehigh Valley Electrical, with no reservation whatsoever.
